May the Fourth Be With You – From a Non a Star Wars Lover at RAR Brewing’s Star Wars Fest

I went to the RAR Brewing “May the 4^th Be with you fest but on the 3^rd” but I am not a Star Wars fan. I don’t mean I don’t like Star Wars I just never fell in love with it. I loved watching the 3 OGs that came out years and years ago. I will drop quotes and funny memes. And I am assuming since I am dating the Editor of this blog, I will be forced someday to do an entire streaming of all things Star Wars. I am here for it.

I’m a Star Wars….

We arrived on the scene in Cambridge Maryland and scoped out the parking lot. It was small and not surprisingly already full. We drove a couple blocks away to a free street parking spot and pulled in ready for an afternoon of enjoying a fun brewery and street festival. There was a mix of local older aged attendees mixed with Star Wars lovers and some dressed in Star Wars Cosplay. The entire layout of the Festival was welcoming and relaxing.

May the 4^th be with you; and I also with you (sorry, I can’t help it) fest but on the 3^rd was a fun, relaxing afternoon in the quaint town of Cambridge Maryland. There was art, music, beer, lots of beer, merch and good food.

It was a tad bit confusing on how to participate in the tasting tent at first but maybe I also can’t read the instructions. We quickly purchased our bracelets and tickets to sample all the themed beers. It was exciting seeing all the beers available for tasting for some stellar breweries; Bash Bros Collective, Imprint Beer Co, Burlington Beer Co, 2SP Brewing Company, Autodidact Beer, Tripping Animals Brewing, Clag, Spylgass Brewing Company, Maine Beer Company, Movement Brewing Company, Voodoo Brewing Company, Dewey Beer, Frost Beer Works, Four Point and Finback

We started off with the “Cuddle Buddies” 10% ABV Cream Triple IPA from Tripping Animals and 10.1%ABV “Even Fuller Very Circular” Triple IPA W/ Citra and Mosaic by Autodidact. I think you already know The Beer Thrillers come in heavy. These did not disappoint, and we quickly found a spot in the shade to chill and anticipate our next sample tastings.

Then we had to try a flight of the RAR themed beers for the day. Swamp Planet -Hop Saturated Ale 8.5% ABV, Desert Planet -Hop Saturated Ale 8.5%, Deep Fried Porg, College Deep Friend Beers -Hop Saturated Ale 10.1% and the Dark Side DELUXE -4% ABV Blueberry, Cherry, heavy Saber -Toasted Marshmallow, a touch of Roasted Habaneros, and Midnight Pastry. These all killed with Desert being the fav for us.

We were drooling over the food truck offerings of Fried Porg Bucket (chicken tenders with RAR seasoned waffle friends and choice of sauce), Mojo Pork Tacos, Birria Beef Tacos and Chicken tacos. The Friend Porg bucket arrived in a square brown container; we missed the novelty of the Porg bucket offering. The chicken tenders and fries were amazing along with a side of honey mustard. We saw many other attendees enjoying the “deep friend Porg” along with the various taco options.

Even Fett had to get in on the Galactic Grill. Good thing he removed his helmet before eating the fries.

The second music act Black Dog Alley band provided a very mellow and friendly atmosphere among Fest goers. Most folks walking by were swaying or bobbing their heads to the beat. A few folks were seen dancing together. We listened and relaxed to cover songs by the Beatles, Stevie Wonder and Gnarles Barkley.

This dog friendly event gave dog loving fest goers plenty to enjoy. A friendly Pit bull puppy near us enjoyed some leftover Porg and fries. We were immediate friends and shared some cuddles.

We purchased beer to go, some merchandise and some art from a local vendor. We highly recommend checking out this yearly RAR May the 4^th be with you events even if you aren’t a Star Wars fan. We highly recommend checking out the quaint town of Cambridge Maryland and absolutely recommend checking out RAR Brewing company. We can’t wait to visit again!

Going back in time to the 90s in Mount Joy: The Fresh Brews of Mount Joy Brewfest

or – we took a trip to a brewfest and had a ‘kickin’ good time, one that was rad to the max!

We are ready to have a good time. We made our way to the Fresh Brews of Mount Joy hosted by Yah Brew Hershey, Yah Brew Mount Joy and Voyage Mount Joy. This was also part of a fundraiser with part of the proceeds benefiting “Donegal Athletic Club” which helps support the needs of our local athletes.

Like all things YAH Brew style, it hit heavy on the 90s nostalgia. Even each brewery announcement on social media was doing a nostalgic reference to the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” throwback. And yes, I have had that song in my head while writing this entire article!

It was only the day of the event I took notice to the wear your best 90s themed attire. I couldn’t think of anything that fit this goal so I went with my fav beer shirt. My baby daddy luckily received a Homer Simpson T shirt for Christmas from a wonderful woman, so he wore that.

Even one of the gals pouring beer quizzed us. “ I came to drop bombs. I got more rhymes than the bible’s got psalms” Who is the artist? I can immediately guessed “biggie”. I heard it in his voice when I repeated it in my head. But I was very wrong…”House of Pain, Jump Around.” So now that song is in your head, eh?

What got our attention to attend this event despite all the other events was the stellar lineup.

After walking up and down the blocked off street the Beerfest looked like everyone was in a hustle to get stuff setup but folks still taking time to chat and catch up. I didn’t get the impression that everyone knew each other, although we ran into a lot of familiar faces, but everyone there was genuinely into the beer they were drinking. A large number of the breweries attending have done collab brews together. It was like hanging out with all your beer friends while pretending the 90s weren’t more than 25 years together!

We had VIP tickets so that meant that VIP time was during the downpour. I almost felt like I was playing frogger; jumping from tent to tent to get more beer pours at my quickest pace to avoid getting drenched. But, let’s be honest, if you are giving me beer the rain doesn’t matter that much.

After the Facebook post and a friendly Beerfest goer we decided the bourbon barrel aged stout from Voodoo Brewing company was going to be our first taste of The Fresh Brews of Mount Joy. Black Magick indeed lived up to hype.

If you have been reading The Beer Thrillers for any amount of time, I think you know by now we know how to get a Beerfest started. This one comes in at a %13 ABV. It gives that slight boozy flavor but then finishes off smoothly. There is some definite magick going on with this beer!

It wasn’t long until I needed some food to soak up the beer and our first Stop was Halo’s Eatery. We split the Halo Bowl. It was delicious and paired nicely with several of the beers we enjoyed.

It wasn’t long after I couldn’t stop drooling over the bacon on a stick I saw my other Beerfest goers enjoying. We could hardly wait to chow down on the bacon and it was still very hot. Again, many beers were enjoyed while enjoying Bacon on a stick.

The kicker to the whole event was the 90s cover band. Every other person there would catch a few tunes and immediately start belting our lyrics that we could remember.

Before catching our Uber home we grabbed some Hoagies to go at Hulk Hoagies (the YAH Brewing attached hoagie shop that they run in Mount Joy), then went home to enjoy them on the coach. We ordered Sweet Chin Music (spicy) and the Rock Bottom.

Fresh Brews Brewfest

Ben jumping in here. Just want to give a big shout out to Justin and everyone from YAH Brew for all the hard work they did. The brewfest was absolutely fantastic. Rain or no rain, it was a blast, and we got to hang out with lots of great people over the course of the day, and had some “da bomb” beers. Kudos to all involved for such a job well done!

Hoppy Valley Brewfest Returns for 2025

The Hoppy Valley Brewfest returns for its second year in State College, Pennsylvania; this time on July 19th, 2025. Last year, the inaugural Hoppy Valley Brewfest occurred on Mother’s Day weekend in May (on the Saturday therein). (You can see that article here: The Hoppy Valley Brewfest.) Last year it was announced in very early February (this year it was just announced today – March 18th.) Also, last year’s event was held inside Beaver Stadium on the football field. This year it will be held in a parking lot next to Medlar Field (the baseball field across from Beaver Stadium).

Just a bit ago on their Facebook and Instagram accounts, the Hoppy Valley Brewfest announced the brewfest’s return for its second year.

They released this announcement:

No announcement has been made yet about breweries appearing at the event. Nor has any specific breweries announced attending yet (insofar as we know of at time of this article, which is shortly after the brewfest announcement). Also no breweries have announced special beers yet for the event (like last year’s Troegs / Sworn / Antifragile / Warwick Farm collab – Storm the Field). (Beer Review: Storm the Field.)

Medlar Field

The Medlar Field is the baseball field across from Beaver Stadium. Its where Amy’s Alzheimer’s Walk for the State College area occurs each year. Last year I was in charge of the Porter North Lot and directing traffic (because it coincided with the Trump Rally that day).

Here is how to find it on Google Maps: Porter North Lot at Medlar Field – State College, PA.

Last year’s event was held inside Beaver Stadium, on the football field. This was primarily due to the fact that following the event they were going to be tearing up the field and replacing it. There was hopes that if the event returned for a second year, it would at least be held in the concourses of Beaver Stadium, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Instead, the event will be in the parking lot on July 19th. This is still a nice location and you will be able to see Beaver Stadium loom in the background. As the AC Beer Fest found out in the past few years (even dropping the event last year), its hard holding a brewfest in July sometimes; due to weather and temperature. (AC Beer Fest has always annually been in March / April inside at the Convention Center, but post COVID it moved outside to Bader Field in July, and then for two years they were holding one event in March at the Convention Center and then another in July outside at Bader Field; however in 2024 they ended up cancelling the July event at Bader Field, but kept the indoor one in March.)

What Makes Oktoberfest Beer Special? A Complete Guide to Bavarian Brewing Tradition

Thinking about Oktoberfest? Massive amounts of beer first come to mind—and for good reason! This world-famous festival is all about tradition, celebration, and, of course, raising a Maß (liter-sized mug) of specially brewed drink. But Oktoberfest beer isn’t just any lager you can grab at your local store. It follows strict brewing rules, has a unique taste, and comes in two main styles: the classic Märzen and the lighter Festbier. Only six Munich breweries have the honor of producing this special brewery and calling their beer “ Oktoberfest official” served at the festival.

Each sip of German-style beer captures a distinct taste. Whether you take at the vibrant festivities or enjoy it at home, what makes Oktoberfest beer so special is its key ingredients and definitive features.

Oktoberfest Beer History – How a Maltier Brew Became an Iconic Tradition

Oktoberfest beer traces back to the early 19th century to celebrate Prince Ludwig’s and Princess Therese’s wedding. Their celebrations lasted for days and resulted in the popularity of a lot from the Bavarian culture, such as the traditional lederhosen and dirndl dress, along with plenty of beer.

The Oktoberfest, which is now called the world’s largest beer festivity, didn’t always feature the brews you associate it with today. The wedding celebration was such a success that it was repeated the following year and eventually became an annual tradition of what we now know as Oktoberfest, and with it came a beer style that remains iconic.

Initially, the drink served was a darker, maltier brew known as Märzen. It was named after the month of March, when it was traditionally brewed and stored in cool caves over the summer. Märzen remained the official beer for Oktoberfest in Germany for around 100 years due to its amber color and toasty malt profile. But as the celebration grew into an international sensation, festival-goers wanted something even more palatable. Munich’s breweries responded with malt-forward lager with a beautiful light golden to copper color (Festbier). This modern Oktoberfest beer style with a clean finish is served at the festival today.

American vs. German Styles — What’s the Difference

Same name, Different Beer! If you have picked up an Oktoberfest beer outside of Munich, you might have noticed something different—it won’t taste the same. Many people think Oktoberfest brew is just one style, but it’s not. You may find American and German approaches to this special beer tradition. U.S. breweries took the inspiration from the original Märzen, while in Germany, you taste the modern Festbier. Both styles, however, share a malt-forward character.

Märzen – The Original Oktoberfest Beer

American Oktoberfest Beers are often Märzen-style. It features an amber color and a slightly sweet taste with notes of toffee, biscuit, and bread. They typically have a medium body and a light toasted malt character. Märzen contains 5.8–6.3% alcohol by volume and is slightly heavier than a German Festbier.

Festbier – More Refreshing Lager

When you think of Oktoberfest beer in Germany, you’re talking about Festbier—the golden, crisp lager that fills massive mugs in Munich’s beer tents. It tends to be paler and more similar to a Dortmunder-style brewer with a balanced flavor profile. Festbier has a clean fermentation character and provides a toasty-doughy aromatic with an impression of sweetness. This makes it easier to drink in liters at festivities. The color varies, but you will find German versions mostly in golden, like a strong Pils-dominated Helles.

When buying any of the above beer styles, read the label. Märzen is always mentioned in the bottle, but if it displays Oktoberfest, you are drinking Festbier.

What Defines the Oktoberfest Beer— A Representative of Bavarian Heritage

Not just any beer can call itself an Oktoberfest beer. It has a unique character and brewing process that sets it apart from your everyday lagers. The drink served at festivities reflects German centuries-old brewing traditions and makes it a symbol of true celebrations.

It Must Be Brewed in Munich

Only six breweries—Augustiner, Paulaner, Spaten, Hofbräu, Hacker-Pschorr, and Löwenbräu—are allowed to serve “official” Oktoberfest beer at the celebration. Other than these are strictly forbidden at the festivities. These breweries operate large and small beer tents at the Theresienwiese to serve millions of people during the festival. Also, the beer must be brewed within the city limits of Munich to ensure authenticity.

It Follows the Reinheitsgebot (German Purity Law)

The beer must meet specific criteria of Bavarian law to be officially recognized as an Oktoberfest brew. This means it only contains

Water
Malted barley
Hops
Yeast

No additives or shortcuts!

It Has a Balanced, Malty Flavor

Oktoberfest beer is known for its smooth maltiness. Whether it’s the traditional Märzen or the modern Festbier, the flavor profile is malty, smooth, and highly drinkable, with a good balance of sweetness and hop bitterness.

It Has a Higher Alcohol Content

To give it a strong kick, Oktoberfest beers generally have a higher alcohol content compared to typical lagers. The permitted ABV typically ranges from 5.8% to 6.3%, which can vary by brewery. Hofbräuzelt beer is the strongest, with 6.3% alcohol. This gives it a bit more body and warmth, making it perfect for cool autumn celebrations.

It’s a Lager, Not an Ale

Hoppy Valley Brewersfest is Tomorrow

Are you ready? Are you going? Did you get your tickets yet? The Hoppy Valley Brewersfest is tomorrow!

We first reported it here: Hoppy Valley Beerfest. This big daddy, 75+ brewery event, happening right on the field of Beaver Stadium, is going to be one massive party. The brainchild of Antifragile Brewing Company, as well as several other breweries and with a ton of great and fantastic collaborations (Antifragile, Sworn, Warwick Farm Brewery, and Troegs Brewing collaborated to make ‘Storm the Field’ as well as Antifragile doing collaborations with other breweries).

Ironically, my “memories” has been flooding with past years events of the Mt. Hope Renaissance Faire Brewfest – which has typically happened every year in May, but has been cancelled and this is the first year this event has stopped. (Read more here: Mt. The Lancaster Craft Beerfest is Returning August 2024

Finally returning for the first time since COVID (since 2019, postponed in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023), the Lancaster Craft Beerfest is set to return this August 2024. In a time when some brewfests are closing up (Mount Hope Renaissance Faire Brewfest Ending) and many more are downsizing, its nice to see this one return.

Maybe we will start to see a resurgence of brewfests. Maybe even the Mt. Hope Ren Faire one will come back next year. In just two weeks time there will be the Hoppy Valley Brewfest in Beaver Stadium, State College, PA. There has been a lot of talk the past two years about how brewfests and big beer events were on the decline, mainly pointing out the Great American Beer Fest (GABF) and similarly sized events and in general just how much the world has changed since 2020 and COVID-19.

Troegs Brewing Teams Up with Sworn Brewing, Antifragile Brewing, and Warwick Farms Brewing for Storm the Field

Storm the Field!

A couple of weeks ago we announced and shared information on our social media pages of Sworn Brewing, Antifragile brewing, and Warwick Farm Brewing being at the Troegs Brewery to collaborate on an upcoming beer for the Hoppy Valley Brewfest. The three visiting breweries met up at Troegs Brewery to brew a West Coast Double IPA. Part of a series of collaborations for the year that Troegs Brewing is doing (they’ve also collaborated with Dewy Beer Co, Tonewood Brewing, Free Will Brewing, and more).

As of right now, it looks like there will be limited kegs available, as well as being poured at the Hoppy Valley Brewfest on May 11th in Beaver Stadium, as well as 16 oz pounder cans for sale. No word on how much allotment will be at each brewery or if it will see distribution at all.

Hoppy Valley Brewfest

The Hoppy Valley Brewfest is the first brewfest to be held inside Beaver Stadium. It will be held on May 11th, 2024. With a list of 100+ breweries from the East Coast area with some huge heavy hitters like Sworn Brewing, Fidens Brewing, Adroit Theory, Other Half, and so many more; it is shaping up to be one amazing brewfest. Sworn Brewing

Antifragile Brewing

Another fantastic brewery, from the heart of State College, PA. We got to visit Antifragile last November after Amy’s Alzheimer’s Walk to End ALZ in State College, and its a great brewery with amazing beers. Definitely check them out when you are up in the area.

Warwick Farm Brewing

Warwick Farm Brewing is located in Jamison, PA on a wonderful farm brewery setting. With gorgeous views, fantastic beers, it is a fantastic brewery to get to visit, drink, and hang out at. Picnic tables outside, large open spaces outside and inside, perfect summer drinking spot.

According to Untappd, Troegs Independent Craft Brewing is a regional brewery with 151 unique beers listed (despite their being over 500 Scratches). (A lot of vintage and variants get consolidated into single unique listings as well.) They have 2.3 Million ratings and as of 4.26.24 have a global average rating of 3.79. Their Untappd bio reads:

Oktoberfest Beer Consumption Tops All Beerfests Globally

Oktoberfest is known as the largest Beerfest for a reason. Oktoberfest beer consumption tops globally each year, with a huge number making the front headlines! People gulp a WHOPPING 6.5 million liters of Oktoberfest beer (bier) at the festival in 16-18 days. The nice weather helped a lot, with almost every day being warm and sunny, except for one. But it's not just about the beer! There are other interesting stats from the Oktoberfest in Munich, too. From rising beer prices to different beer tents serving distinct beers.

A Big Turnout of Guests at Wiesn

Munich’s Oktoberfest drew in a massive 7.2 million guests. It was a notable increase from the 5.7 million attendees in the previous years, per the city’s official figures. Among these, approximately 480,000 people were spotted at the Oide Wiesn (the traditional festival grounds within Oktoberfest.) Apart from the local Bavarian crowd, a significant presence of international visitors, particularly from neighboring countries like Italy, Austria, France, and the USA, can be seen. A popular outfit choice among most Beerfest attendees was wearing trachten – “Dirndl” and “Lederhosen.”.

An interesting observation was the efflux in sales of non-alcoholic beverages. A significant increase of 50% was seen in comparison to the previous years. This spike could be accredited, at least in part, to the unusually warm weather experienced during the festivities. Some tents even faced water shortages on certain days due to the high demand.

Oktoberfest Stats At a Single Glance

A massive increase of 15% in food sales was seen compared to the previous
year. The showstopper was the “Wiesn Hendl” (half a chicken).
The “Chicken Hat” was the most popular souvenir, which sold out a day before
the finale of Wiesn.
Security personnel confiscated 115,600 beer mugs from being stolen from the
beer tents and the Wiesn fairground.
The crime rate remained low, with just 1,854 police interventions resulting in
1,093 arrests.
2.8 million kWh of electricity consumed (12 percent saved in comparison to
2022)
300 tons of garbage disposed of 7% less than the 2022)

Oktoberfest Facts and Interesting Statistics

Oktoberfest is full of exciting facts and statistics, besides holding records for the highest number of visitors.

The SIX Munich Oktoberfest Beer

Oktoberfest Trademark Beer is only served at Wiesn, which has two important characteristics;

It is produced locally by the Munich breweries and within the Munich Limits
The Wiesn beer has to comply with the Beer Purity Law “Reinheitsgebot.”

The Reinheitsgebot also holds the record for being the oldest food law still in use. Duke Wilhelm IV of Bavaria instructed it in the year 1516. The Purity law states that “only barley, hops, and water” can be used to brew the beer.”

Beer is sourced from Wiesn through the “BIX SIX.” The six brewmasters are the makers of Munich Oktoberfest.

Oktoberfest Beer Consumption Trends

Oktoberfest has seen fluctuating trends in beer consumption over the past decade. An analysis of these statistics from the last ten years reveals interesting patterns. External factors affect these patterns of beer sales. Over the years, Oktoberfest beer consumption has experienced notable fluctuations. The figures indicate peaks and valleys, reflecting various factors such as economic conditions, social trends, and external disruptions. In 2014, exhibiting a hike in demand for Oktoberfest beer, consumption spiked to 7.7 million liters. The following year, 2015, witnessed slight
variations, with consumption of around 7 million liters until the unforeseen interruption in 2020 and 2021 due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.

The absence of Oktoberfest festivities in 2020 and 2021 undoubtedly impacted beer consumption. Millions of liters typically consumed during the event were forgone. This two-year pause disrupted the annual consumption trend and posed challenges for breweries and vendors. Other economic factors have influenced Oktoberfest beer sales beyond the pandemic-related pause. In recent years, rising inflation has increased beer prices, affecting consumer behavior. The upward price trend has contributed to a more cautious approach to spending among Wiesn guests. This behavior leads to a moderation in beer consumption.

Inspecting Oktoberfest Beer Price Trends

Oktoberfest beer tent prices have hiked significantly from previous years. The rise in prices, as mentioned above, is accredited to the economic crunch.

Large Tents

The large tents at Oktoberfest are renowned for their grandeur and capacity to host thousands of visitors at once. Wiesn guests have noticed a prominent beer price increase across various large tents in recent years. For instance:

● Hacker-Festzelt: Guests at this large tent experienced a slightly higher increase of 7.46%. Beer prices rose from €13.40 to €14.40 in 2022 to 2023 respectively.

● Armbrustschützenzelt: This tent sold beer for €13.50 in 2022 and €14.40 in 2023, reporting a modest 6.67% increase in beer prices.
● Weinzelt (Weissbier): While not the largest tent, Weinzelt’s specialty in Weissbier attracted attention with a 3.57% increase, pricing a mug at €17.40 in 2023 compared to €16.80 the previous year.

Small Tents

The smaller beer tents are not as grandiose as the larger ones but offer a cozy and intimate Oktoberfest experience. Here, too, the trend of price increases was evident:
● Vinzenz Murr Metzgerstubn: Among the small tents, this venue saw one of the most significant increases, with beer prices surging by 10.37% from €13.50 to €14.90.
● Wildstuben: Another notable increase was witnessed at Wildstuben, where prices rose by 9.30% from €12.90 to €14.10.
● Wirtshaus im Schichtl: However, not all small tents followed the same pattern. Wirtshaus im Schichtl experienced a more modest increase of 2.21%, with prices increasing from €13.60 to €13.90.

Oide Wiesn

The Oide Wiesn, or “Oktoberfest”; offers a nostalgic experience with traditional music, crafts, and beer. Here, too, changes in beer prices were observed:
● Festzelt Tradition: This beer tent experienced a 6.82% increase, with beer prices climbing from €13.20 to €14.10.
● Museumszelt: The Museumszelt saw a relatively moderate increase of 4.76%, with prices rising from €12.60 to €13.20.

Wrap Up!

Oktoberfest is big on beer! It sets record-breaking beer consumption yearly, making it one of the biggest “Beerfest.” Over the past decades, Oktoberfest beer has seen different trends in terms of consumption and prices. Beer served at Wiesn strictly follows Purity law and is brewed locally by the “BIG SIX.”

Beerathon: 5K and Beerfest Coming to Philly

The first ever Beerathon 5K + Beer Fest – a one of a kind event focused on combining exercise and celebrating Pennsylvania based beer companies and beyond, is coming to Philly. Beerathon will take place Saturday, May 11 at The Navy Yard in Philadelphia, PA and be composed of two parts: A 5k timed run and beer fest to follow.

Born out of training injuries that sidelined a group of friends from competing in the New York City marathon, they pivoted to something they were also good at: drinking beers. So, in 2011, in New York City, the Beerathon was born. A 26 bar, 26 beer adventure that captured the imaginations of beer lovers around the world. Now, over a decade of Beerathons around the country later, the newest challenge is born: Beers, Run, Ridiculous Fun, the Beerathon 5K + Beer Fest.

Beerathon kicks off with a totally doable 5K run (or walk) where participants will get that Runner’s High and earn a beer for each mile completed. After the race, patrons are invited to a ridiculously fun beer fest with an incredible list of curated beers, food trucks, live DJ and more on Marine Parade Grounds @ The Navy Yard.

Like beer more than running? Not ready to run or an old sports injury slowing you down? The Beerathon does not require any physical activity or participation in the 5K. Beer Fest Admission tickets are also available, separately. Choose your adventure: Beer Fest, 5K, or both! Beerathon is for everyone.

Registration for the Beerathon 5K includes:

● Earn a beer for every mile completed

● Victorious completion medal

● Food trucks at the finish line

● Hydration stations along the route

*Drinking beer not required. Attendees can also sign up for a regular 5K, and/or just join the post-race beer fest.

Tickets for the beer fest include:

● Unlimited craft beer tastings ALSO sample wine, seltzers, meads, and more!

● Live DJ

● Souvenir tasting glass

● Food trucks at the finish line

● A ridiculously fun day out on the lawn at The Navy Yard

Attendees can find their favorite brew from an array of exhibitors including: Swedesboro Brewing Co, Broad Street Brewing, New Ridge Brewing Co, Von C Brewing Co, BKB, Revolution Bees, Bellefonte, Gritty City Winery, FishTown Iced Tea, Triple Bottom Brewing, and more.

Want to visit Beaver Stadium, walk the field where some of the best of the Penn State Alumni played football, while drinking craft beer? Come May 11th, that can be a reality for you. Introducing the “Hoppy Valley Brewfest”. The inaugural brewfest is looking to kick off on May 11th and will be hosting 75+ breweries to deliver their craft beer suds on the field of Beaver Stadium.

One of the largest stadiums in the country will host what could potentially be one of the largest brewfests in the country. An attempt to rival the Great American Beer Festival in Denver, “The East Coast GABF” as one insider told me, this brewfest is looking to make monumental waves on the industry.

Less than a full day after the Mt. Hope – Renaissance Faire brewfest was announced to be cancelled – the Hoppy Valley Brewfest was officially announced. (We had previously discussed it as ‘unofficial’ rumor news here on the site.)

Antifragile Brewing Company, in collaboration with Breweries of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Restaurant & Lodging Association, The Happy Valley Adventure Bureau, and Happy Valley Sports & Entertainment Alliance, is joining forces to host a historic event at the fourth-largest stadium in the world – Beaver Stadium!

Be one of the first to score a tasting of handcrafted beers ON THE FIELD at the home of the most electrifying atmosphere in college football. Immerse yourself in the diverse offerings from an expected 75+ exhibitors, featuring a wide selection of beverages catering to every palate.

The festival will also showcase local food vendors and entertainment, ensuring that there is something for anyone and everyone. Make sure to join us for an unforgettable blend of flavors and fun at the inaugural Hoppy Valley Brewers Fest!

A Brewfest Comes to Beaver Stadium

There will be entertainment as well, but more information will be released as the lead up to the event happens. Stay tuned to their website for more information on that as well.

Penn State Athletic Director Patrick Kraft wants to stage more events at Beaver Stadium, which is undergoing a $700 million renovation. Beaver Stadium will host Luke Combs’ “Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old Tour” on April 27, two weeks after the Blue-White Game. In 2023, Beaver Stadium hosted a yoga class and showed “The Lion King” on the stadium screen. Beaver Stadium also has hosted a pop-up version of TopGolf.

Sports Illustrated as well as numerous other outlets have covered the brewfest as happening. (Sports Illustrated does have an error in which they state Breweries in PA is a sponsor when its the guild of breweries in Pennsylvania – the Brewers Of Pennsylvania who is in fact a sponsor.) The sponsors for the event are – PR&LA, Brewers of Pennsylvania, Happy Valley Sports and Entertainment Alliance, The Happy Valley Adventure Bureau, and Antifragile Brewing Company.

As well as the “Official Sponsor” – Hello Social Co.

The event will run from 12 – 5 PM for VIP attendees and from 1 – 5 for general admission attendees. A price point hasn’t been discussed yet on their website, but a number thrown out has been “100$”, not sure if this is for the VIP or for the General Admission cost. (Tickets are also sold through Ticketmaster so there will be more costs then afterwards.)

Home of the legendary Penn State Nittany Lions football program, Beaver Stadium seats 106,572 fans, making it the second-largest football stadium in the United States.

You will be entering the festival through the south tunnel of Beaver Stadium – just like the team does! Picture yourself coming out to the cheers of 110,000 people, and get ready for an experience unlike any other.

This is a very exciting brewfest coming to the greater Central PA area and we cannot wait for it. Coming in May, it is a time when typically the Mount Hope Brewfest (pre-COVID) was usually held. And it will fall between the two dates of the AC Brewfest (the indoor brewfest being in April, and the outdoor brewfest being in June). So this will be a wonderful huge brewfest in the Spring timeframe. Definitely put this on your calendars and expect a great time. We are looking forward to getting more information.

We had previously stated on here how Troegs Independent Brewing – Antifgraile Brewing – Sworn Brewing – and Warwick Farms Brewing – met up at the Troegs Brewery to start hammering out a collaboration beer details for this brewfest.
