Camp Hill Brewery Plans Scrapped

Well, we finally got the long awaited answers to what is happening with High Road Brewing. Probably one of the most asked questions I get on the blog and our social media is (was) “What is happening with High Road Brewing?” or “What is happening with that Camp Hill Brewery?”

As we originally posted in November (18th) of 2021:

Obviously summer of 2022 has gone and past and here we find ourselves at the beginning of March, and still no High Road Brewing. Word has come out today officially putting the nix to the plans of the brewery.

Plans Scrapped

As reported by PennLive:

Flinchbaugh cited the high cost of the building including materials, labor, design and structural work associated with the project at Neighbors & Smith. Smith Land redeveloped the site where One Good Woman and Little Black Dress operate.

“It made it impossible to make any money for a long, long time,” he said.

At this point, Flinchbaugh said he is looking to sell brewing equipment he purchased for the project or possibly use it for a brewery at a different location.

No word on what exact brewing equipment Flinchbaugh owns or has. He has reached out to Al of Pizza Boy Brewing / Al’s of Hampden looking to brew his beer.

Flinchbaugh has said: ““The dream is not dead, but the project is.”

Plans were originally announced November of 2021 to open the brewery; back in October of 2022 he stated chain supply issues, ongoing demand issues, and marketing scarcity as reasons for the delay.

At this point, all is not lost. With a brewery license, Flinchbaugh will brew small batches of beer in the coming weeks at his High Road Taproom at 146 Walden Way in Charter Homes & Neighborhoods’ Walden community in Silver Spring Township. He’s also contracting with Al’s of Hampden to produce larger batches of High Road’s beers.

In 2017 the Camp Hill voters voted to overturn the town’s ‘dry status’ allowing for the production of beer and other spirits within the township’s limits.

The Original Plan

As we first mentioned here – High Road Brewing Company Will Be Opening in Camp Hill by Summer 2022 – the original plan was:

High Road Brewing Co is expected to open their brewhouse sometime in the Summer of 2022. It will be located at 1801 Market Street, Camp Hill, in a complex that also has other stores such as – Plum Bottom Shoes, One Good Woman, and Little Black Dress. The complex is owned by Smith Land & Improvement Corporation.

There is Highway Manor Brewing which lists itself as Camp Hill when discussing its location, as well as the Brewhouse and 2050 Brewing. Brewhouse which has its own brewing line (2050 Brewing) is located at 2050 State Road, Camp Hill. Highway Manor Brewing is located just a bit up the street, and according to Untappd, is also listed as Camp Hill – though their physical location is listed as 2238 Gettysburg Road, Lower Allen.

In the meantime, the High Road Taproom will be making its grand opening on Thanksgiving Eve – November 24th, 2021. Located at 146 Walden Way, Mechanicsburg, PA. They are hosting an event for their opening, which you can read more about on their Facebook event page: “Grand Opening of High Road Tap Room“.

It is taking the place of Harty Brewing Company, which closed two years ago from the same location.

The tap room has a capacity for 30 people. They are taking advantage of a liquor license that Governor Tom Wolfe signed into place, allowing for off-premise catering permits. The foods will be provided by Flinchy’s, Home Slice, and nearby Sophia’s of Walden. Beers and cocktails will be from Pennsylvania breweries and distilleries.

Matt Flinchbaugh: “It gives us a whole other bar. It’s basically a way to increase revenue at a time when we’re not hitting our numbers like we used to.”

Thank you all for reading. At least this (somewhat) puts to bed all the questions I kept getting asked about High Road Brewing Company. Still looks like there’s a chance for some High Road Beers, just not in the traditional sense of a brewery.
