Mad Elf Set to Release on October 9th

Mad Elf Set to Release on October 9th

Mad Elf is Being Set Free This Monday

This Monday – October 9th 2023 – Mad Elf is coming back out of hiding and is set to be released at the Troeg’s Brewery in Hershey. On Columbus / Indigenous People’s Day; get ready for Mad Elf to be on the shelves when the brewery opens at 11:30 AM.

Releasing with less fanfare than normal this year – as well as releasing a bit earlier than in past years – the Mad Elf is hitting the Troeg’s General Store shelves and floor space on October 9th. Spend your extra Monday off getting Mad Elf at the brewery. But just beware – the Mad Elf is a bit impish.

The Mad Elf

The iconic Mad Elf, helped solidify Tröegs Independent Brewing as one of the top breweries not just in Pennsylvania, but in America; was created in 2002. Mad Elf was once even featured in a Playboy article.

The Mad Elf has gone through some changes and facelifts over the years. Troegs Independent Brewing is currently on their “third elf” logo and design. (So keep ahold of those original Harrisburg era 2000s Mad Elf memorabilia.)

Mad Elf captures so many things about the holidays for so many people, and not just beer lovers. A lot of people who typically don’t drink beer have a special connection with Mad Elf.

Co – Owner and Co – Founder of Troegs Independent Brewing – Chris Trogner

Troegs Independent Brewing says what truly makes Mad Elf – Mad Elf – is the cherries. As Troegs promotional material puts it: “the essence of Mad Elf, the ruby red, once a year holiday ale is born from five varieties of tree – ripened cherries: Bing, Lambert, Van, and Royall Ann; all contribute to a bright and juicy sweetness, while Montmorency adds a touch of tartness to the beer.”

Of course – the other big ingredient of Mad Elf is honey. Specifically Pennsylvanian honey. 25,000 pounds of natural wildflower honey from The Happy Beekeeper – from Carlisle Pennsylvania – is used for the seasonal delight.

It’s a beer that’s become synonymous with the season. We like to say that it’s not the holidays until you’ve had your first Mad Elf.

Mad Elf is available in 12-oz. bottles and cans at the brewery starting October 9th. Soon thereafter the beer will be found throughout Troegs Independent Brewing’s distribution path. Kegs are usually prepared a few weeks after the bottles and cans; so look for draft of Mad Elf to start appearing end of October or early November. Troegs is also released Mad Elf Grand Cru at the same time.

October 9th, 2023

Troegs Independent Brewing opens their doors at 11:30 AM on Monday – October 9th, 2023. (Recently changed their hours from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM on Mondays.) But they are closing early – at 7:00 PM – so that the employees can sample the new fall menu which will be starting on Tuesday October 10th, 2023.

Upcoming Scratches

I can’t really let the cat out of the bag – just not yet anyway – but there is some heavy duty scratches coming out soon. Originally planned for this week they’ve been pushed back and looking to be released on the 19th. Look for new posts about that upcoming.

We are working on a massive project here at The Beer Thrillers. We are creating a map of all of the breweries across the United States. State by state we are adding maps of all of the different states with every brewery in each state. (We will eventually get to the US Territories, as well as the Canadian Provinces, and possibly more countries; as well as doing some fun maps like a map of all the breweries we’ve been to, and other fun maps.) You can find the brewery maps here:

We are also working on a project of creating printable and downloadable PDFs and resources to be able to check and keep track of all of the breweries you’ve been to. So stay tuned for that project once we are finished with the Brewery Maps of the US States.
