Michaux Brewing Expanding to Gettysburg

The expansion news continues in Central PA (and Pennsylvania beer in general). Michaux Brewing just announced that they will be expanding into Gettysburg, adding a taproom there. It was just two years ago they opened their current location (July 3rd 2022). (Michaux Brewing Grand Opening.) Its great to see them expanding in less than two years, and into a wonderful beer city. Gettysburg is currently home to Fourscore Beer Co and Pilger Ruh Brewing. (As well as having had Tattered Flag and Appalachian Brewing Company there.) (Pilger Ruh Brewing Expanding into Gettysburg)

💥GETTYSBURG… HERE WE COME!💥

We are excited to officially announce that Michaux Brewing Company is expanding! We will be opening a second location in downtown Gettysburg this summer! After months of planning and a lot of help from our friends and family, the space is looking great. Our official opening date is still TBD, but we will be sure to keep you updated!

We want to give a special shoutout to Kenny @blue_shift_industries who helped in the visualization of the future taproom. His rendering of the space is on point!

Stay tuned for updates on the Gettysburg location!

We are working on a massive project here at The Beer Thrillers. We are creating a map of all of the breweries across the United States. State by state we are adding maps of all of the different states with every brewery in each state. (We will eventually get to the US Territories, as well as the Canadian Provinces, and possibly more countries; as well as doing some fun maps like a map of all the breweries we’ve been to, and other fun maps.) You can find the brewery maps here:

We are also working on a project of creating printable and downloadable PDFs and resources to be able to check and keep track of all of the breweries you’ve been to. So stay tuned for that project once we are finished with the Brewery Maps of the US States.

May the Fourth Be With You (2023) https://thebeerthrillers.com/2023/05/04/may-the-fourth-be-with-you-2023/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=may-the-fourth-be-with-you-2023 Thu, 04 May 2023 13:30:00 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=11261 May the Fourth Be With You

Yes, its that time again! Fourth year running of us mentioning it. (We started the blog in late May of 2019, so we’ve only gotten to tackle May the Fourth in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 now.)

Its that day again. A nerd day of celebratory and galactic proportions. A day to jump on Nintendo Switch Online, on LEGO.com, on Star Wars.com and who knows how many other fan sites and branding sites to get tons of Star Wars related deals.

By now I’m sure you’ve seen it all over Facebook already, every brewery from near and far posting a picture of their workers in costume or a Star Wars movie still with a beer on the picture, usually with the branding of “May the Fourth Be With You” somewhere on the image.

I bet you are probably even within about a 20 mile radius of a brewery or bar doing “Star Wars trivia” tonight.

Its also a day here to celebrate Star Wars in general, and on The Beer Thrillers we are definitely doing that! We definitely love covering Star Wars here on The Beer Thrillers, and I think it shows with our sheer number of Star Wars themed beer reviews, Book of Boba Fett review, and even Star Wars book reviews. On our Facebook page you can find us often linking and sharing to various new beer releases by different (somewhat nearby for me) breweries that are Star Wars themed.

So with the idea of the fact that nearly every brewery is doing some kind of Star Wars themed day or releasing a Star Wars themed beer, I’m going to present a small list of near – ish to me places doing Star Wars beer released themed for this year’s May the Fourth Be With You. (I’m not going to run down a list of every place doing just Star Wars trivia, but the breweries that are at least doing a Star Wars themed beer release, or have a Star Wars themed beer on their menu. And of course, if I miss any, be sure to mention it in the comments section.)

May the Fourth Beer Releases

Star Wars meme our friend Josh at Master Mind X Studios made up for us.

Yes, its that time of year when brewers take their beers they’ve made, and decide to give it a Star Wars themed pun and shoot it out on May 4th or nearby arounds to great critical acclaim (and for people like me, who love Star Wars, to grab up and drink up).

(This is also when the mulers come out in droves, charging you 80$ for two four packs that are being sold for 22$, and willing to ship. I have stretches of DMs from yesterday of Floridians telling me “its totally the acceptable price to sell 40$ for a 4 pack”, and even though S&H doesn’t go up if you ship 4 or if you ship 8, still charging 40$ per pack, so 80$ for 8 beers.

Yea, actually, don’t get me started about the insane DMs I got from mulers and re-flippers specifically from the Miami area, trying to get me J. Wakefield Beers of their Star Wars release. I even had one guy DM and tell me that 105$ for a mixed four pack [two of one beer, two of the other], is a very generous offer.)

(Various Facebook posts about Star Wars themed beer releases.)

Star Wars Day Beer Releases

There is a lot of Star Wars day beer releases for today, the biggest notable one is typically RAR Brewery. Who does a Star Wars themed Out of Order beer release every year. This year they are releasing five Out of Order Star Wars themed beers.

Bolero Snort Brewing Company – Now on Tap

Second Sin Brewing Company – Obi Wan Jabroni

In probably my favorite mash up; Second Sin Brewing Company (Bristol, PA) is releasing Obi Wan Jabroni. A mash up of The Rock and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Crooked Crab Brewing Company – Crabdalorian

Always enjoy the pun twists like this one – Crooked Crab is releasing the “Crabdalorian” today in celebration of Star Wars Day / May the Fourth Be With you. (Similarly, Tattered Flag in the past released “The Pandalorian“.)

Brewery Fire – Hoth: Mangalorian

We’ve covered Brewery Fire’s “The Mangalorian” before, but this is a new take on it. A Cold IPA version of it, appropriately titled: Hoth: The Mangalorian.

Allusion Brewing Company – Stay on Target

Our Battle of the Breweries 2023 championAllusion Brewing Company – still has their “Stay on Target” on draft.

Divine Barrel – I Did It For the Wookie

Divine Barrel has a re-release of their “I Did it For the Wookie” beer.

Bottle Logic – Three Releases

Bottle Logic Brewing Company is releasing three beers for today, but as of time of writing, they have only announced two. “Tatooine Sunset” and “Unlimited Power”.

J. Wakefield Beer

The last I’m gonna highlight here is J. Wakefield Beer’s two releases for today. Dagobah Downpour and Max Rebo’s Sour Ale. Who doesn’t love Max Rebo? Honestly. Coolest musician ever. Other than maybe Droopy McCool who was a Jizz Whailer. (And yes… thats a real term in Star Wars before you get mad at me!)

Help A Brother Out

Here’s gonna be my call out. Help a Brother Out! If you ever see a Star Wars themed, Futurama themed, Zelda themed, Lord of the Rings themed, Seinfeld themed, Simpsons themed, pretty much anything nerdy pop culture themed, beer, shoot me a message. Maybe we can work out a deal or sale or trade or something.

Always looking to get my hands on Star Wars and other nerd themed beers to review for the site / blog. So if you know of any – let me know! I wanna check them all out!

A Highlight of Our Star Wars Beer Reviews

May the Fourth be full of memes

(Some of the following comes from my “May the Fourth Be With You” 2022 article and 2020 articles.)

In this article, I broke down what Star Wars Day is (May the Fourth) and discussed what Star Wars articles I had written up to that point. (Don’t worry, there have been PLENTY of new Star Wars content since then.)

Beer Review: This is the Way (Broken Goblet)

This is the Way by Broken Goblet

One of the first Star Wars themed beers I reviewed here on the blog, and one of our most popular beer review articles. A good friend (Roy Ge) picked it up for me and Drew to drink at his place while we did a podcast about The Mandalorian. Was an absolutely wonderful beer. They have released a few variants since. One of which I am covering in the upcoming weeks with the Obi-Wan Kenobi show.

Beer Review: This is Nut The Fluff You Are Looking For (Fourscore Beer Co)

This is Nut the Fluff You Are Looking for by Fourscore Beer Co.

Picked this big bad boy of a bottle up when I was in Gettysburg with Ming and Don and brought it back to drink with Drew. As you can see on the blog, you’ll be able to find several Fourscore Beer Co reviews (you can even find Amy’s latest beer review right here – Phantomania). They are a phenomenal brewery that loves delving into Star Wars themed beers. We just picked up a four pack of soft swerves from them that were Star Wars themed, and can’t wait to dive into them here for the blog.

Beer Review: Out of Order – Blue Milk (RAR Brewing)

Out of Order: Blue Milk by RAR Brewing

One of our most popular articles on the blog (right up there with our yearly March Madness tournament posts, our review of Yuengling’s Hershey Porter, and with the Broken Skulls IPA by Stone Cold). This was the first of the Out of Order series I’ve reviewed, and it was a solo one they originally did, but then brought back when they did their Star Wars release in 2021. You’ll find others from that series down below.

Beer Review: Wookie Monster (Fourscore Beer Co)

Wookie Monster by Fourscore Beer Co

Another excellent beer, and another Star Wars themed beer by Fourscore Beer Co. Had to work to get this one because I missed out on their initial release and it sold out quickly. Got it through a trade chain through the Central PA Whalerz group, and was I ever so grateful. Delicious beer.

Beer Review: The Pandalorian (Tattered Flag)

The Pandalorian by Tattered Flag

From our good friends at Tattered Flag comes this mash-up parody beer called The Pandalorian. This is a very juicy, tasty New Engand IPA that hit the spot on a warm sunny day in November. Soon after my trip back from Indianapolis, (as you can tell by the Vonnegut glass), I got lucky and still had some nice warm November days, and I took full advantage of it laying out and drinking in the sun while reading.

Beer Review: Java the Stout (Jackie O’s Brewery)

Java the Stout can art by Jackie O’s Brewery

One of the beers I picked up on my trip to and from Indianapolis was Java the Stout by Jackie O’s. It was a delicious stout that “lived up to its name”. Also, the can art is absolutely phenomenal. Its worth checking out just for that.

Beer Review: This is the Whey (Bolero Snort)

This is the Whey by Bolero Snort

One of the first Star Wars themed beers I’ve reviewed by Bolero Snort, and a fantastic beer. The other was BoBull Fett and I reviewed that for the premier episode of ‘Book of Boba Fett‘.

Beer Review: The Mangalorian (Brewery Fire)

The Mangolorian by Brewery Fire

In early January I hiked with Ming in the Catoctin Mountain area of Maryland. Afterwards we stopped at Brewery Fire and I picked this up to go. This was my May the Fourth review last year. Wonderful beer, and a great brewery that loves their nerd and pop culture references.

Beer Review: BoBull Fett (Bolero Snort)

BoBull Fett by Bolero Snort

Another beer review from Bolero Snort, and this time a crowler. We traveled out to New Jersey to pick this up the day of the premier for Book of Boba Fett and then reviewed it for the show as our first of the weekly beer reviews for our “Star Wars Wednesdays”. A fantastic beer.

Beer Review: Out of Order – Tatooine Tart (RAR Brewing)

Tatooine Tart by RAR Brewing

Back to RAR Brewing and their Out of Order series. Part of their Star Wars batch of the Out of Order series (along with Blue Milk making its return). Jabba’s Palace scene on the background on the computer from Return of the Jedi. As you can also see with the BoBull Fett beer review, the beginning of all the Star Wars LEGOs being shown in the beer pics.

Beer Review: Out of Order – RAWRGWAWGGR (RAR Brewing)

Out of Order – RARWWARRGGRGR by RAR Brewing

On a cold wintery snowy day in January (January 19th), and another Star Wars Wednesday, I took this Hoth like scene pic with another great Out of Order series beer from RAR Brewing.

Mead Review: The Meadalorian (Space Time Meadery and Cidery)

The Meadalorian by Space Time Meadery and Cidery

Our first Mead review on the blog, and it was a fantastic mead. Check out Space Time Meadery and Cidery if you are in the Scranton PA area. You won’t be disappointed.

Beer Review: Let the Haze Flow Through You (Black Flag Brewing Co.)

Let the Haze Flow Through You by Black Flag Brewing Co.

One of several Black Flag beers we’ve covered on the blog. A top notch brewery we love to hit up whenever we’re able to in the Maryland area. (Its about an hour and a half – plus – drive from our location near Harrisburg.) It has quickly become one of Amy’s favorite breweries. In the background you an also see Troeg’s Double Nugget Nectar which we have reviewed as well.

Beer Review: Wookies and Cream (Tall Tales Brewing Co.)

Wookies and Cream by Tall Tales Brewing Co.

On another of our brewery trips (this time making our way from Burley Oak over to Cushwa for their 5th Anniversary Brewfest) we stopped at Tall Tales Brewing Co, where I couldn’t help trying out a Star Wars themed beer… especially a stout!

Beer Review: Out of Order – Droid Juice (RAR Brewing)

Out of Order – Droid Juice by RAR Brewing

Back to RAR Brewing’s Out of Order series for our next Star Wars beer review, another of our weekly Book of Boba Fett “Star Wars Wednesdays” beer reviews. A wonderful sour from RAR in line with their others from the series (and their Out of Order series as a whole).

Thank You For Reading

Seeing all the different brewery releases everywhere on a day like this always gives me big time FOMO feelings. Like I’m missing out on a ton of beer. I have reigned that in a lot in my older years, I no longer due to line waiting, and I tamper down mule buying too much (doing more per cost, not willing to give mules a ton of extra money, etc.). Because deep down we all know – beer is beer. As long as you enjoy the beer, it could be called “Zapp Branigan’s Fart” or it could be called “The Death Star IPA” or “IPA”, and it would all taste the same. I think its good to keep that all in perspective when getting that “FOMO” feeling.

Thank you everyone for checking this out.

Also, make sure you stay up to date on the latest of the Founders Brewing Company’s current ‘saga’:

Today (obviously) is May 4th. “May the 4th Be With You.” Anyone planning on doing any fun silly Star Wars stuff? Any breweries you are hitting up for some fun beer releases?

Lots of places are turning their normal Thursday night trivia into “Star Wars Trivia” nights.

So what all are you getting into?

Then, Friday is Cinco de Mayo (May 5th). And THEN – its the Craft Brewers Conference May 7th – May 10th. What a busy grouping of days!

Thank you for reading everyone. We are gearing up for the Craft Brewers Conference (CBC) this upcoming week. We are traveling down Saturday and Sunday, and going to be at the conference late Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

We are totally psyched and cannot wait.

Will you be there? What do you hope to see, learn, do? Anything cool we should check out? Let us know in the comments!

Thanks again for reading everyone. Take some time to check out the site, we greatly appreciate it. Make sure to check out our beer reviews, brewery reviews, Amy’s weekly column, book reviews, hike reviews, and so much more.

Cheers All!

The following has been their Facebook (and Instagram) posts detailing the beers involved in the mix pack:

1) Soft Swerve Dole Whip

Fourscore Beer Company – Soft Swerve Dole Whip

For our 3rd anniversary, we decided to bring back 5 of our highest rated sours ever, plus one brand new addition for this year’s anniversary mixed pack!

To kick things off, we are bringing back our highest rated sour ever – the OG Soft Swerve Dole Whip! The aromatics of pineapple and vanilla bring a straight pineapple upside down cake experience. The flavor is sweet and tropical in a beer form that will absolutely remind you of the frozen dessert.

2) Blueberry Cheesecake Ice Cream Jahmba

Second up in our greatest hits mixed pack releasing next Saturday in celebration of our 3rd anniversary is…. 🥁🥁

🫐 𝗕𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗜𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗝𝗮𝗵𝗺𝗯𝗮 🍦

This is the one that started Soft Swerve. Massive jammy blueberry with a great cheesecake backbone. As with all of our cheesecake treatments, this one contains trace amounts of dairy. We can do ice cream without the dairy and lactose, but our cheesecake does contain a very small amount.

3) Soft Swerve Mango Cheesecake

Announcing Part 3 of our Anniversary Greatest Hits mixed pack – releasing next Saturday at 10am!

𝗦𝗼𝗳𝘁 𝗦𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗼 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗸𝗲

We brought a second offering back from the OG release of Soft Swerve. We scoured back through the recipe book to see how we went about this the first time around. It all started with trying to source the best mango puree around, Alphonso Mango. Prized for its flavor, aroma and creamy texture, no other mango comes close. Pair this with our cheesecake treatment (contains dairy, because – well – Cheesecake) and you have a tropical explosion melded perfectly with lingering cheesecake.

Make plans now to come help us celebrate! 🎉

Part 4 of our Anniversary Greatest Hits mixed pack is…..

🍍 𝗣𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗞𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗥

It had to be done! We had to bring this collab with the homies from the White Rabbit back. With how it was scored, you guys thought the same. Huge amounts of tropical pineapple backed with exotic Yuzu puree and a solid heaping of coconut cream. The inspiration of this one was always a Painkiller cocktail, but with an exotic twist.

It’s a me! Mario!!!!

Back at it again with a jammy blend of strawberry and blueberry backed by a huge vanilla cupcake pop. Throw in a touch of frosting and our favorite friend who we are really not allowed to talk about is back for a final encore.

6) Jahmba Gelato

Announcing the last addition to our Anniversary mixed 6 pack releasing next Saturday. This one is not one we did before, but we think it will rate right up there with the rest!!

𝗝𝗮𝗵𝗺𝗯𝗮 𝗚𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗼 #𝟭

𝐶𝑜𝑙𝑙𝑎𝑏 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑇𝑖𝑛 𝐵𝑎𝑟𝑛 𝐵𝑟𝑒𝑤𝑖𝑛𝑔.

We got together with our good friends from Chester, NY to combine our fruited sour brain power. For our end of the collab, we took influence from true Italian gelatos and went with a concept based on one of the top selling gelato flavors, Bacio. Think milk chocolate with fresh hazelnut. We of course had to add our own twist and we conditioned it on loads of strawberry, blueberry, blackberry and boysenberry.

But Wait….. There’s More

On top of their “Greatest Hits” Mixed Six Pack, they are also releasing even more beers! (Nobody certainly ever said Fourscore Beer Co. doesn’t go all out!). The following are further releases scheduled for this Saturday.

Peach and Quiet

Fourscore Beer Company – Peach and Quiet

This Saturday is our third Anniversary celebration!! So far we announced our mixed 6 pack. Next up is our Foeder Aged Farmhouse Wit conditioned on local peaches.

🍑 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗤𝘂𝗶𝗲𝘁 🍑

Foeder Aged Farmhouse Wit with Peaches – We took our mixed culture fermented farmhouse with local grain that spent over a year in our custom foeders and conditioned it on hundreds of pounds of local Adams County freestone peaches for nearly an entire year. Post aging, we bottle conditioned it for the most natural experience possible, lending a nicely carbonated yet still soft textured experience.

Next Anniversary sneak peek….

𝗜 𝗔𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴

Hazy Triple IPA w/ wine powder – Built off a base of American 2 Row and Chit malts with loads of malted and flaked oats and a very large dose of powdered Australian Sauvignon Blanc whole grape powder. Hopped in the kettle with Calypso and Centennial Cryo and triple dry hopped with Kohatu, Citra Cryo and Emerald Spire. The grape powder provides a melon forward aromatic profile that is followed by notes of under ripe pineapple and pine needles. The grape follows through in the flavor on top of a soft and juicy base. More floral notes are present here along with watermelon rind, candied pineapple and bright citrus.

You can bet we’ll try and get our hands on this one to review. Our love here at The Beer Thrillers knows no bound for Futurama. (We actually fell asleep last night with Futurama on from Hulu – woke up this morning to the “The Devil’s Hands Are Idle Playthings” episode – one of my favorites.)

Drei Glasser

Fourscore Beer Company – Drei Glasser

Who wants some more?!?!?

Here’s yet another Anniversary release coming your way this Saturday, August 13 at 10am.

𝗗𝗿𝗲𝗶 𝗚𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗿

(15%) Blended Barrel Aged Imperial Stout with Coffee, Peanut Butter, Marshmallow and Vanilla. We took stock from 4 different barrel aged stouts (16 month Templeton Rye, 12 month Buffalo Trace, 3 year Four Roses OESK and 3 year Four Roses OBSO), blended them together and aged them extensively on pounds of Tahitian Vanilla beans. We then added peanut butter powder, bourbon barrel aged coffee and marshmallow to give the ultimate sweet treat.

Round 3

Fourscore Beer Company – Round 3

This weekend we are celebrating Round 3 and are super excited to have our Anniversary release collab with @otherhalfnyc!!!

𝗥𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗗 𝟯

Hazy DIPA Collab w/ Other Half

Built off of a base of American Pilsner, and various oats and wheat. Hopped in the kettle with Citra Incognito and Motueka, then triple dry hopped with Citra Spectrum, Nectaron and Riwaka. Fermented with a brand new Thiolized yeast strain from our friends at Omega. The aromatics are all fresh peaches and white grapefruit with a slightly over ripe pineapple backdrop over a bright golden hue. The mouthfeel is lush and creamy with more peach, pineapple and just enough bitter for a balance. The ABV is well hidden and deceitful.

💥 𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟴/𝟭𝟯 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁 𝟭𝟬𝗮𝗺 💥

Last, but not least…

🍓 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗸𝗿𝗿𝘁

Rum Barrel Aged Fruited Sour – How could we only do one collab with the homies from @otherhalfnyc? We took our barrel aged sour game to the next level on this one. After sharing around the first take on our barrel aged Jahmba at a fest, we figured that we needed to combine forces to make a beer that is truly next level. We aged our house sour base in a rum barrel and then took this cocktail influenced concept and added a ton of jammy fresh strawberry puree. After getting that perfect daiquiri consistency and flavor, we brought the next level of intrigue in with some top notch lychee puree. The combo provided to be sweet, boozy and flat out amazing.

Breweries and Events for the big 3 day weekend

Big Weekend

Got a big weekend lined up for us here at The Beer Thrillers. With the kingpin of the trip being the Cushwa 5 Year Anniversary Celebration.

Just about to head out as soon as my friend arrives. Today might be the biggest part of the trip, with the plan being:

Friday

  • Leave Home
  • Stop at the bank
  • Get gas at Sheetz

Then its time to hit the breweries:

  • Dogfish Head Brewery
  • Burley Oak Brewery
  • Tall Tales Brewery
  • Burnish Beer Co
  • Loakal Branch Brewery
  • RAR Brewing
  • Cult Classic Brewery
  • Street Car Brewing
  • City – State Brewery
  • Audacious Ale
  • True Respite Brewery
  • Harper’s Ferry Brewing
  • Antietam Brewery

And then end the day at our hotel. And then Saturday, the main event begins:

Saturday

  • Uber from Hotel to Historic Springfield Barn for the Cushwa Brewfest
  • Uber to Cushwa Brewery
  • Walk to Homaide Brewery
  • Uber back to Hotel

Sunday

Sunday will be a bit more of a peaceful day, as far as drinking goes. It will still be a fun and eventful day.

  • Leave Hotel
  • Antietam Battlefield
  • Harper’s Ferry
  • Harper’s Ferry Brewery (if we don’t get to it on Friday)
  • Abolitionist Ale Works
  • Charlestown Casino
  • Appalachian Trail C.O. Canal Towpath
  • Milkhouse Brewery
  • Fourscore Beer Co
  • Gettysburg
  • Home

We’ll see how it goes. Tomorrow morning before the brewfest, I’ll give a recap of how Friday (today) went. And then Sunday morning, I’ll give a recap of the brewfest. And then after Sunday some point, I’ll do a full article of our travels just like my previous travelogues. Be sure to check in for all of it!

Thanks For Reading

Thanks for reading everyone. Hope you can follow along with our wacky adventures, and hopefully we’ll get to most of the breweries on the list. (I always overbook the itineraries.)

Be sure to check in each day with the recaps!

Cheers!

Cushwa Brewing Company 5 Year Anniversary Celebration

Five Days Away

We are five days away from the five year celebration. So its a perfect time to run it down and get hyped about it. Sadly, the VIP and the general admission tickets have been sold out (for quite some time), but for those of us able to go (myself and writer friend) it will certainly be an event not to be missed. The first brew fest of the year (for us anyway) and we can’t wait for it!

This one certainly looks like a doozy and one that will be remembered for quite some time.

Let’s take a look at the brewery’s Facebook photos as a gallery to get an idea:

What the Event Is

Cushwa 5 Year Celebration Event

Firstly, as you can see – the VIP and General Admission are both sold out. You might be able to find tickets second hand online, but be very cautious of scammers. Cushwa has posted on their photos page that they have caught some people selling fake or scammed up tickets.

The VIP session is 75$ and lasts from 12 – 5, (giving the attendee an extra hour), as well as a second glass and a specialty bottle. The bottle alone really makes the extra 25$ worth value right there, but add in the perks of an extra hour of drinking, plus a second glass, and its definitely worth it.

The general admission is from 1 – 5, comes with a commemorative taster glass (like most brewfests do), and allows unlimited sampling. For both sessions there is over 50 breweries, which we will get to in just a bit.

There is also DD (designated driver / aka ‘non drinking buddy’) access to the event as well for just 5$.

Who All is Invited

So, this is one hell of a list of breweries that is coming and serving up liquid gold for everyone. With many stand – outs.

The full list of breweries include:

  • Adroit Theory
  • Amani Brothers
  • Aslin Brewing
  • Barrel Culture
  • Bearded Iris
  • Black Flag Brewing
  • Bluejacket Brewing
  • Branch and Blade
  • Burnish Beer Co
  • Charles Towne Fermentory
  • Commonwealth Brewing
  • Crooked Crab
  • Crooked Run Fermentation
  • Dancing Gnome
  • Definitive Brewing
  • Deciduous Brewing
  • Dewey Beer Co
  • Divine Barrel
  • Ever Grain Brewing Co
  • Finback Brewing
  • Fourscore Beer Co
  • Good Word
  • Graft
  • Heavy Reel
  • Heist Brewing
  • Homaide Brewing
  • Imprint Beer Co
  • Inu Island
  • Kings
  • Mortallis
  • Mountains Walking
  • Ocelot Brewing
  • Odd by Nature
  • Oozlefinch
  • Other Half Brewing
  • Prototype Brewing
  • RAR Brewing
  • Resident Culture
  • Sapwood Cellars
  • Schilling
  • Sojourn
  • Southern Grist
  • Suffolk Punch
  • Thin Man Brewing
  • Triple Crossing
  • Troegs Independent Craft Brewing
  • Untold
  • Vitamin Sea
  • Wet City
  • Widowmaker
  • Beer Zombies
  • The Maryland Mob

Woooooooheeeeeeeeeeeee!!! Thats a line up! Some stand out favorites and interests are definitely Adroit Theory, Barrel Culture, Bearded Iris, Deciduous, Dewey Beer Co, Finback, Fourscore, Good Word, Mortallis, Ocelot, Oozlefinch, Other Half, RAR, Southern Grist, Triple Crossing, and Vitamin Sea.

But you certainly can’t go wrong with any from that list! Its a nice combination of Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, and Pennsylvania breweries, as well as some other heavy hitters thrown into the mix.

Food

Food Vendors

The food options are:

  • Food For Thought
  • The Highroller Lobster Co.
  • Rad Pies

So there is some variety and enough food choices to be had for the four or five hour sessions. (If you see me veering for the lobster in a drunken haze, just kick me away so I don’t trigger my shellfish allergies. Thanks!)

Anything Else Fun?

There will also be a DJ on hand – DJ Bizzy, and just recently announced Thicc Bois Glass will also be on hand selling some dope hand blown glassware. They’ve worked with Tattered Flag and a few other breweries in the past to make some really fantastic glassware.

Pumped

Are you pumped? Are you going? I’m pumped. I have finally gotten my days changed at work – and now have off Friday and Saturday (rather than Thursday and Friday); only took me 10 years of working at the casino, to finally get up to having off a weekend day. I also put in a special request and got the Sunday off for travel home.

With the can release for Burley Oak the day before (Friday – Jan. 21st), we are looking to make this quite a trip. Coming down from the Hummelstown area to get to Burley Oak, and then make our way over towards Cushwa (a bit over three hours across Maryland, after driving three hours to Burley Oak), we will be stopping and hitting some fabulous breweries on the way. Then spending the night in the Williamsport area, before stopping by Antietam and maybe Monocacy Battlefields (again), and a few more breweries before making our way back home up into Pennsylvania.

Be sure to check out our travelogues and travel stories here on the blog for many of our wacky adventures through the Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania and Virginia states that we’ve had the recent months. Also, be sure to check out the following Cushwa articles:

Thanks For Reading

Will you be attending? Know anyone who is? Thoughts on the brewfest or the line up of breweries? Let us know in the comments or on our various social media platforms! Can’t wait to hear from you!

(Also, be sure to stay tuned for a special ‘cold’ beer review tomorrow, and another Star Wars beer review on Wednesday, which will likewise be a ‘cold’ beer review.)

Cheers!

Brews and Bands for Bart https://thebeerthrillers.com/2021/08/11/brews-and-bands-for-bart/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=brews-and-bands-for-bart Wed, 11 Aug 2021 22:00:00 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=7900
Brews and Bands for Bart

Block Party of the Summer

How do you recognize one of the baddest and coolest party throwers around? By throwing one of the biggest and baddest bashes ever in his honor! Thats just what’s in store this Saturday at Tattered Flag. We’ve discussed Bartley Kaminski here on the blog before, in numerous different ways, but recently with his passing, and with the event here and various events in the distant past.

This event has been planned out for quite a while now, but has really blown up with Bart’s passing. Tons of breweries adding their names to the list, and lots of other additions, and add – ons and groups adding to it and showing up in various ways to help the cause. It looks to be one hell of a bash, and one hell of a way to salute, and remember Bart and to throw one final rad party in his honor and memory.

Bartley Kaminiski

We talked about Bart before here, and talked about his passing previously here: Farewell to Bartley Francis Kaminski. He founded Kollision Media, Hop Hedz Gear, and has been referred to as “The Willy Wonka of Beer Events”. I could go on and on about him here. He was just a great guy, the life of the party without being too much, and everyone who knew him, or even just met him at one event or the other has amazing memories or stories to tell about him. My buddy talks about Bart’s green – suit or green – man appearance at the Atlantic City Brewfest all the time. There was very rarely an event in the Central PA area where you didn’t see a Hop Hedz Gear stand or Bart himself. And I guarantee you there was at least one person walking around in a tee shirt or hoodie that he made.

I can’t do him justice here discussing his amazing life, but we can do him justice by having one heck of a party in his honor.

Brews and Bands for Bart

The final brewery list for Brews and Bands for Bart posted today (Wednesday 8.11.21)

Look at that line-up! And word is there might be more additions to come and stuff, even though this is the “finalized” list. And I’m sure some might have their own little additions or add ons or secret hidden stashes too.

Here is a full list with all of their Untappd links:

Word is also Lancaster Brewing Company, North Country Brewing, and maybe one or two more will be unofficially added. That is one hell of a lineup right there! With breweries from out of state like Tripping Animals (Florida) and much more.

And let us not forget the bands part of this event as well!

The music lineup for Brews and Bands for Bart at Tattered Flag this Saturday (8.14.21)

Also, as posted by Hop Hedz Gear on social media:

In addition to the 40+ breweries that will be attending the fest, we would like to thank our group of vendors who will be a part of the event! Thanks so Whimsical Wonders By Kris, Thicc Bois Glassware, D&S Cigar Lounge, Dutch Country Soft Pretzels, and Feathers Feed and Jerky. Beer Review: All Together (Ever Grain and Other Half Brewing) https://thebeerthrillers.com/2020/05/14/beer-review-all-together-ever-grain-and-other-half-brewing/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=beer-review-all-together-ever-grain-and-other-half-brewing Thu, 14 May 2020 13:57:00 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=3309
All Together by Ever Grain Brewing Co. (Partnering in ‘collaboration’ with Other Half Brewing Co. and many other breweries for this project.)

Many of you have probably heard of the ‘All Together’ project, started by Other Half Brewing Co. As soon as I heard about it, I had to immediately find the first brewery in my area to do it and get one; that first one in my immediate area turned out to be Ever Grain Brewing Co. Unfortunately I missed out on the 4pk of it, but I did get in time for a crowler (or two) of it, and I was informed that the crowler sales would go towards the project, just as the 4pk sales did.

I will be posting links to several other sites and sources about this here in this beer review / article, and I highly recommend you checking them out, and I also highly recommend checking out whatever ways you can have of donating.

Here is a direct bit from the Other Half Brewing Co.’s website on their official beer release version of theirs:

A world wide collaboration hosted by Other Half, Stout Collective and Craftpeak to support the enormous amount of hospitality workers laid off during this difficult time. We are donating 100% of our proceeds to the Restaurant Workers Community Foundation. We brewed this recipe with 2-row, oats and carapils and then hopped it with a beautiful blend of our hand selected Citra, Mosaic, Simcoe and Cascade. We intentionally kept the recipe simple so that every brewer that wants to do it can do it. Keep an eye out for versions from over 500 breweries worldwide all working to help others in need. Visit alltogether.beer for all the details and a list of breweries involved. Collect them all 🙂 Brewed in Rochester.

Other Half Brewing Co.

Many breweries jumped on board, and you can find some lists of who all is doing it on a few other sites, such as Craftbeerdrinking and Hopculture.

Craftbeer.com’s article (All Together Collaboration – Beer to Help Hospitality Workers) lists: Non Sequitur Beer Project, Side Project, Southern Grist, Mikerphone Brewing, Fifth Hammer Brewing, Modist Brewing, Outer Range Brewing Co., Industrial Arts Brewing Co., and obviously Other Half Brewing Co.

The All Together Beer website, a site designed for this and set up for this project, has a wealth of information on the project. I highly recommend checking this out. You can find the recipe, you can find ways to donate, and if you are a brewery, you can also find a way to jump aboard and become part of the project, as well as print out labels, and get ways to promote the beer for yourself as well. At the bottom of their page, they have a map and a running tally / statistic. There is 824 breweries that have participated, in 50 states (of the United States of America), and in 53 countries. That is amazing and just phenomenal! 824 breweries is insane! And every state, and 53 countries helping out, is just downright awesome. I don’t care how you slice it, breweries helping people, will always be awesome, and I will always gladly do what I can to help support that.

There is a map, that you can zoom in and see what breweries are doing the project. So being a Central PA native, I had to zoom in on PA and see who all is jumping aboard, and here is a list of many that are:

(in no particular order)

  • Saucony Creek Brewing Company
  • Robin Hood Brewing
  • Shy Bear Brewing
  • Hidden Stories Brewing Co. LLC
  • Rotunda Brewing Company
  • Ever Grain Brewing Co.
  • Fourscore Beer Co
    * Collaboration with: Prototype Brewery and Meadery and Wolf Brewing Co.
  • Shabby Deck Craft Brewery
  • Suburban Brewing Company
  • Voodoo Brewing Company
  • Hitchhiker Brewing Company
  • Grist House Craft Brewery
  • Roundabout Brewery
  • East End Brewing Co.
  • Dancing Gnome
  • 11th Hour Brewing
  • Whitehorse Brewing
  • Four Points Brewing
  • Sly Fox Brewing Co.
  • Lost Tavern Brewing
  • Birthright Brewing Co.
  • Angry Erik Brewing
  • Naked Brewing Co.
  • Free Will Brewing
  • Imprint Beer Co.
  • Well Crafted Beer Company
  • Ten7 Brewing Company
  • Brothers Kershner Brewing Company
  • Bald Birds Brewing
  • Rebel Hill Brewing Company
  • Stickman Brews
  • Brewery ARS
  • Odd Logic Brewing
  • Second Sin Brewing

And that’s just the list of Pennsylvania breweries! And just the ones mentioned so far. Who knows if more will do it (hopefully). And thats also just one state out of fifty, and one part of a country out of fifty-three countries. So there is obviously a lot more breweries doing this! Some big names too like Equilibrium Brewing in New York are on board as well. So there is definitely a lot of momentum and weight behind this movement and project, which is absolutely fabulous! Keep up all the great work breweries!

Another link with information can be found at Hopculture: Hopculture – Other Half’s All Together Beer Project for Hospitality Workers.

Now we got all of that behind us, the whys, the hows, and the whats of this amazing and great beer. Lets get into the beer itself!

All Together by Ever Grain Brewing Co.

Beer: All Together
Brewery: Ever Grain Brewing Co.
Collaboration: Other Half Brewing Co.
Style: IPA – New England
ABV: 6.5%
IBU: None Listed
Untappd Description: We are proud to be apart of this open-ended beer collaboration masterminded by Other Half Brewing Co. 100% of our proceeds are going to Hospitality Assistance Response of Pennsylvania.

Some of the various breweries listed what they changed of the recipe or adjusted, if they swapped hops or malts or added adjuncts. Ever Grain’s Untappd listing doesn’t state any changes. So I’m assuming its near identical to the recipe given by Other Half Brewing. You can find their recipe on their All Together website, and you can click here directly for the recipe. I also saved a copy of the recipe, and I’ll post it here as well:

Other Half All Together recipe.

So this is what I’m assuming Ever Grain did, just on their system, with possible minor tweaks along the way.

Firstly – appearance is beautiful orange. It has that lovely New England IPA look to it. Golden orange juicy appearance to it, like pouring into a tall pint glass your morning OJ (not… the killer… or running back… but the drink); but this time with alcohol added! (Double win!). It has a little foam head to it that is light and fluffy with dispersed bubbles.

Aroma is pound for pound sound for sound pure hoppy juicy, citrus, fruity, and delicious smelling. Just cracking this open and pouring it already has my mouth watering and ready to drink it. I got notes of citrus, grapefruit, passionfruit, orange and tangerine, with a bit of zest or lime to it at the end. There isn’t any west coast IPA notes to be found in this, no evergreen tree, no earthy notes, no forestry like notes, all pure New England typical hop aromas and notes. The dry hopping really brings them out to the forefront.

Taste is phenomenal, and sadly makes this beer go waaaaaaaay too quickly. Me and my friend D. Scott drank two crowlers of this, way, too, quickly, while doing one of our Knights of Nostalgia sessions. I think we finished our crowlers in about fifteen minutes each. Which, thankfully this is only 6.5% so we weren’t rocked from basically pounding 32oz., but this was also just too delicious to even set down. It is very juicy, very dank, very delicious. Its both fruity and citrusy, with notes of grapefruit, passionfruit, orange and tangerine. Theres a bit of a lime / lemon twist at the end, but very subtle, barely noticeable, but there is definitely a citrus vibe to this that goes with the fruity juicy nature of the beer itself. And like I said, at 6.5% its not too heavy or overwhelming, even in a 32oz crowler; or if you get a 4pk of this, (4 x 16 = 64oz) you could probably handle a 4pk in an evening and be fine for work the next day. (Work…. work…. I vaguely recall work….). The mouthfeel is also very nice, its not too thick, not cloying, or heavy, or watery thin either, its just the right level of consistency and feel on the tongue. This is definitely an easy sippable beer or a quick quaffer. Which, obviously, I was pretty quick with mine, but your mileage may vary. Knowing also, that 100% of the proceeds is going to the Hospitality Assistance Response of Pennsylvania, also makes this just so much tastier and drinkable.

My Untappd Rating: ****.25
Global Untappd Rating: 4.26 (as of 5.14.20).

Cheers everyone. Hopefully you are all making it through this quarantine and lockdown relatively safe, sound, and mentally safe and sound. If you are looking to donate for hospitality workers, there is links here in this article, and the All Together Beer link has thee most information on that. As well as information if you are a brewer, home brewer, or commercial brewer looking to make the beer as well. So please check that out here: All Together – Beer – We’re All In This Together.

As always everyone, thanks for checking out the blog, click the like, the follow, the subscribe, and share, and do all those other cool things to help us out. We greatly appreciate it, and love all of our readers. Stay safe and healthy, and make sure to drink up lots of All Together to help our favorite bartenders! They are going to need it. Even when we re-open, things will be tough for them for a while, and probably dealing with idiots not wanting to follow CDC guidelines and the such will be all the more difficult for them. So please, help them out. Cheers!
