On the same night that John Cena won his 17th World Heavyweight Championship, we crowned our first two time champion. Fighting it out in the Finals Fatal Four-Way for this year, 2025, we had returning champion Liquid Noise Brewing Company vs. Collusion Tap Works vs. former champion Allusion Brewing Company vs. Acclamation Brewing.

Also, just like last night, with Cody Rhodes losing, so did our returning champion. So yes, that means your 2025 Battle of the Breweries Champion is….

Thank You

Thank you to everyone who voted. I will go into a much bigger thank you on the Results Page, as well as looking for feedback, suggestions for next year (and all other years going forward), and in general people’s thoughts, ideas, and if they enjoyed this year’s tournament or not. I hope everyone did. I appreciate all the time and effort everyone spent on voting and participating in the tournament, and I can only hope everyone enjoyed it. This year’s edition was plagued with a few technical issues on our website, on social media, and all kinds of things, but I think we made it through, just going an extra week long due to the issues. But ending on WrestleMania Night 2, on Easter, and on 4:20 day, kind of made up for it.

I want to congratulate all of the finalists – Allusion Brewing Company (Apollo Conference winner), Collusion Tap Works (Zeus Conference Winner), Liquid Noise Brewing Company (Cascade Conference Winner), and Acclamation Brewing (Liberty Conference Winner). All four breweries did a fantastic job throughout the tournament, and are fantastic breweries period. So if you can, go out and support these great places and people!

There was a total of 256 breweries competing this year, from 13 states and the District of Columbia.  So this was certainly a hard fought win, especially since it’s their second win, for Allusion Brewing Company. Congrats to them (again)!

If you are new to the blog and our site, and this is your first time visiting, please hang out, bookmark the site, and check back with us. The Battle of the Breweries 2025: Finals Fatal Four – Way https://thebeerthrillers.com/2025/04/07/the-battle-of-the-breweries-2025-finals-fatal-four-way/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=the-battle-of-the-breweries-2025-finals-fatal-four-way Mon, 07 Apr 2025 13:00:17 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=16218 The Battle of the Breweries 2025: Finals Fatal Four – Way

Just before you’re about to hit play on that cassette tape of “We Are The Champions” we have one final round to go! Its the Finals Fatal Four – Way! Each of the Conference Champions will be facing off in a fatal four way to determine who is the true Battle of the Breweries (2025) Champion! And this year’s a doozy! We have two returning champions, including the Defending champion – Liquid Noise Brewing Company, as well as two first time finalists. Scroll down to the VOTE section to vote.

The Battle of the Breweries: 2025 – Championship Finals Fatal Four Way

Conference Champions

Let’s take a look at the four conference champions:

Apollo Conference

The winner, defeating Boneshire Brew Works in the Conference Championship, of the Apollo Conference is…………… Allusion Brewing Company! A former Battle of the Breweries Champion!

Cascade Conference

The winner, defeating Shy Bear Brewing – and defending their championship from 2024 – of the Cascade Conference is Liquid Noise Brewing Company!

Liberty Conference

The winner of the Liberty Conference, and making their first Finals appearance, having defeated Wolf Brewing, is Acclamation Brewing!

Zeus Conference

The winner of the Zeus Conference, defeating Dancing Gnome Brewing to advance to their first finals is Collusion Tap Works!

Finals Fatal Four Way

Much like a wrestling fatal four way match, you have four determined, grizzled, hard nosed, tough as nails; competitors facing off to determine the one true winner and champion! We take the winner of each of the conferences and pit them against each other in a four way match. (Think of WrestleMania 2000 with The Rock vs. HHH vs. Big Show vs. Mick Foley!) You can only vote for one brewery, and after two weeks – ending on 4:20, on WrestleMania XLI Night Two, ending on Easter Sunday, on Sunday April 20th, 2025; the brewery with the most votes will be the Battle of the Breweries Champion! You can vote daily for your favorite brewery. So we fully recommend 1) that you bookmark this page so you can come back to it each day, and 2) that you share this page to all of your social media platforms to help your favorite brewery out!

(Voting has ended.)

Tournament Guidelines

We fully encourage everyone to have as much fun as possible with this tournament! Share and comment and talk about the breweries facing off. Upset your favorite brewery isn’t in the tournament? Sorry! It means one of us probably haven’t been there, or they just barely missed our cut when deciding the 256 breweries to include! Social media is a fantastic tool for sharing your brewery or your favorite brewery’s voting page. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, BlueSky, Mastodon, Tumblr, LinkTree, umm…. MySpace? LinkedIn? Pinterest? What other social medias do you cool young kids use? Whichever it is, feel free to share and bolster and brag about how your brewery is doing or encourage others to vote for your favorite brewery!

Please do keep it all in fun though. This isn’t meant to belittle or demean breweries or to create real animosity. Its a fun light hearted competition in the spirit of the NCAA March Madness basketball tournament. So with that in mind please enjoy it!

The finals round will be a two week event, unlike the previous rounds (with the exception of the one round due to technical difficulties), which were one week rounds.

The Battle of the Breweries 2025: Apollo Conference – Round of 64

Welcome to the first round of the Battle of the Breweries 2025! The Round of 64! This is the APOLLO CONFERENCE voting page. Scroll down to see the VOTING RULES and then further down for the VOTING survey to fill out to vote. You don’t have to vote for each match, you can leave some blank if you wish not to vote.

Voting Rules

Voting is straight forward and simple. There are four conferences: APOLLO, CASCADE, LIBERTY, and ZEUS. (All named after different hop varietals.) Each week, from Monday through Sunday, there will be a voting page for each of the conference. Click on the voting page, open it up, and it will have a pop-down survey poll. Starting with the Round of 64, all the way down to the finals of each conference, followed by a Fatal Four Way that will have the winner of each conference fighting for the grand champion!

You can vote daily for each of the conferences, so you can make up to 4 votes (one per conference) per day. Each round will be one week, except for the Finals which will be two weeks. The rounds are as follows: Round of 64, Round of 32, Round of 16, Round of 8, Round of 4, Conference Finals (Round of 2), and the Finals Fatal Four-Way (Winner of each Conference in a four-way match). So for the first week, there will be 32 matches in the conference, then in the second week there will be 16 matches, then 8 matches, then 4 matches, then the last two rounds are just 1 match each.

For the Conference Finals I might just make it 1 voting page rather than 4 distinct voting pages. It all depends on what will be easier for the blog’s coding and all that back house stuff.

The Battle of the Breweries

We’ve been hosting our version of the NCAA March Madness since 2021. We call it “The Battle of the Breweries”. Its a pretty straightforward tournament, ran similarly to that of the March Madness basketball tournament. Of course, we have to put our own unique spin on it though! Firstly, each year we’ve done some form of different rule to the tournament, to keep it interesting, in the very first year we had the finals come down to a Triple Threat, other years we had the first round be similar to that of the World Cup Group Stage, this year we are making it our biggest ever with 256 breweries involved!

The only rule for a brewery to be entered into the competition is that they must be a brewery that one of our main staff writers have visited. Either their main brewery location or one of their tap room satellites. The main writers being Ben, Amy, Josh, and Paul. Between us, we have been to countless breweries in different states, and I – Ben – as full editor selected this list for the tournament. From there, the 256 breweries were randomly selected into four conferences of 64 each. And then, we used Untappd to seed them based on their global average rating as of the time I took a look at it (within this past week). Breweries in this tournament range from states like Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, Ohio, Indiana, Arizona, Nevada, and Washington D.C. That’s 12 states and one District! Needless to say, the winner of this tournament has some serious bragging rights!

Voting

Each week, from Monday through Sunday, there will be a voting page for each of the conference.

VOTING LINKS

The following section will be edited over time to include all of the different voting pages and their links. As well as the results pages. Results pages will be done when I have time. Between having four daughters, a girlfriend, a job, and writing for the blog, results pages may not be done immediately. Voting pages will be though.

Imprint Brewing Cuts Brewing Staff and Halts Production at Hatfield Facility https://thebeerthrillers.com/2024/12/04/imprint-brewing-cuts-brewing-staff-and-halts-production-at-hatfield-facility/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=imprint-brewing-cuts-brewing-staff-and-halts-production-at-hatfield-facility Wed, 04 Dec 2024 13:20:17 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=15769 Craft Beer Heartbreak: Imprint Beer Co. Hits Pause on Hatfield Brewing

In a shocking twist that’s left the craft beer community reeling, Imprint Beer Co., a beloved local brewery in Hatfield, has announced a major shake-up in their operations. Known for their innovative brews and loyal following, Imprint is facing a bitter reality that’s forcing them to halt beer production at their Hatfield facility.

Imprint Beer Co.

The Sobering News

The brewery dropped this bombshell on social media, citing economic pressures as the main culprit. At the heart of the issue? Hefty surcharges imposed by the Hatfield Municipal Authority on water usage and wastewater volumes. These unexpected costs have apparently tapped out the brewery’s resources, leaving them in a tough spot.

(See Also: Imprint Unveils GNARCADIUM)

Imprint Beer Co is best known for their Schmoojies and (smoothie) sour beers. They are located at: 1500 Industry Rd STE R, Hatfield, PA 19440.

Imprint Goes to Social Media

Anyone who is familiar with BeerNerds and BeerGods Facebook groups, which are primarily Philadelphia / New Jersey based beer groups (but are national) would have seen some of the news about this already. Posts like this one:

A post from the BeerGods Facebook Group

There has been a lot of talk in other groups as well. Some like: Beer Nerds, BeerGods, BeerNERDS, TheBeerGods, and Pennsylvania Craft Breweries. (You can also always check out our group as well – The Beer Thrillers Group). There was lots of talk about how the brewery staff was let go, just weeks out from Christmas (today – December 4th, is officially three weeks before Christmas).

In response to all of these postings, the Imprint Beer Company themselves went to social media and made several posts. In it they discuss how important their staff is, how much they love their workers, and how vital the employees are to the company.

Its the typical responses you see from companies giving a “rah rah” speech; but at the same time, its also the same typical response you see to media backlashes that companies get. Not quite an apology, not quite overall sincerity, and not quite getting to the true issues of everything going on. You can read for yourself below, with their quoted post, and then the images they had on their posts. They posted this on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and whatever other social medias they have.

The post reads:

Swipe to learn why we are moving our production and packaging location.
We thank everyone who has reached out with their support over the past couple days.
As always, we love what we built, our staff, and especially all our customers. We are OF COURSE open as usual in the taproom and arcade in Hatfield for at least 3 more years!!
See you here 🍻

Staff Cuts and Community Reaction

Perhaps the most gut-wrenching part of this news is the impact on Imprint’s team. The brewery confirmed they’ve had to let go of their production and packaging staff, a decision that’s clearly left a sour taste in many mouths. Social media has been buzzing with reports of abrupt dismissals, with one former employee claiming they were fired in a mere 38-second phone call.

Hope on the Horizon?

Despite this setback, it’s not all doom and gloom for Imprint Beer Co. The brewery insists they’re not closing shop entirely. In fact, they claim sales are still ‘climbing briskly’ – a silver lining in an otherwise cloudy forecast. They’re actively scouting for a new production facility that won’t drain their resources with excessive surcharges.

This also comes on the heels of Sly Fox Brewing Owing Money for Damages and Penalties in related to tip wage theft.  (See also: Sly Fox Brewing Ordered to Pay Nearly $200K for Withholding Tips)

What This Means for Craft Beer Lovers

For now, Imprint fans might need to savor those last few cans in their fridges. But fear not, hop heads! The brewery is determined to get back to brewing as soon as possible. They’re committed to continuing their legacy of crafting those unique, handcrafted beers we’ve all come to love

The Bigger Picture

This situation highlights the challenges small breweries face in today’s economic climate. From rising costs to regulatory hurdles, craft brewers often find themselves navigating choppy waters. It’s a reminder of the passion and perseverance required to keep the craft beer scene thriving. As we raise a glass to Imprint Beer Co.’s resilience, let’s hope for a swift return to brewing. After all, the craft beer world wouldn’t be the same without their creative concoctions. Stay tuned, beer lovers – this story is still fermenting!

This is also a very poor look on Imprint Beer. Considering the timing in relation to Christmas, New Years, the Holidays, etc. Also given reports of how much people did not enjoy working for them, and now as the dirt will begin to work its way out on the various social media platforms.
We hope all staff that was working for them finds new jobs and new (and seemingly better) places of employment. Especially at this point in the year. We will also keep everyone updated on what goes on with Imprint Beer, as they move on from this.

Sly Fox Brewing Ordered to Pay Nearly $200K for Withholding Tips https://thebeerthrillers.com/2024/11/27/sly-fox-brewing-ordered-to-pay-nearly-200k-for-withholding-tips/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=sly-fox-brewing-ordered-to-pay-nearly-200k-for-withholding-tips Wed, 27 Nov 2024 05:10:21 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=15749 Sly Fox Brewing Ordered to Pay Nearly $200K for Withholding Tips: What It Means for the Craft Beer Industry

In a story that’s sending ripples through Pennsylvania’s craft beer scene, Sly Fox Brewing, a well-known name with a strong local following, has been ordered to pay nearly $200,000 in back wages, damages, and penalties. This decision comes after an investigation by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) found the brewery in violation of federal wage laws.

Let’s dive into what happened, why it matters, and what it says about supporting fair practices in the restaurant and craft beer industry.

Sly Fox Brewing Company logo

What Happened at Sly Fox Brewing?

The Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division discovered that two Sly Fox locations in Pittsburgh—the Taphouse at Point State Park (300 Liberty Avenue) and the Highline Brewery (46 S. 4th Street) — violated the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Specifically, they allowed managers to participate in the tip pool, a clear no-go under federal law.

For restaurant and brewery workers who rely on tips as a vital part of their income, this is more than just a policy violation—it’s a significant financial hit.

The Breakdown of Penalties:

  • Back wages recovered: $84,710
  • Liquidated damages: $84,710
  • Civil penalties: $15,435

In total, the brewery was required to pay $184,855 to rectify the situation.

Why This Matters

Craft beer is a community-driven industry, built on passion, creativity, and collaboration. But like any business, it must also adhere to fair labor practices.

“Restaurant workers often make low wages and depend on every dollar earned, including tips, to help support themselves and their families,” said John DuMont, the Wage and Hour District Director in Pittsburgh. His sentiment highlights the importance of respecting the hardworking people behind the scenes.

Whether you’re pouring pints, running food, or cleaning up after hours, every role contributes to the experience we beer lovers enjoy. Ensuring fair wages and proper treatment is essential for a thriving industry.

What Does This Mean for the Craft Beer Community?

For craft beer enthusiasts and brewery owners alike, this story serves as a wake-up call. It’s a reminder to support breweries that not only produce great beer but also take care of their employees.

For Brewery Owners:

If you’re running or thinking about starting a brewery, this is a clear signal to get your labor practices in order. The craft beer community values transparency and fairness, and maintaining these values is crucial to building a loyal customer base.

For Beer Lovers:

Next time you visit a brewery or restaurant, consider the people making it all happen. From your bartender to the back-of-house staff, everyone deserves fair pay for their hard work.

About Sly Fox

Sly Fox Brewing Company is a Pennsylvania craft beer staple, founded in 1995, and known for its bold flavors and innovative approach to brewing. With locations spanning the state, including the renowned Taphouse at Point State Park and the Highline Brewery in Pittsburgh, Sly Fox has built a reputation for quality beers that cater to a wide range of palates. From their flagship Pikeland Pils to seasonal favorites like Christmas Ale, the brewery offers a mix of traditional styles and creative brews that keep customers coming back. Over the years, Sly Fox has become a go-to destination for beer lovers and a key player in the local craft beer community.

Beyond its beers, Sly Fox is deeply rooted in Pennsylvania’s culture. Their involvement in events like the Sly Fox Bock Fest & Goat Race showcases their passion for creating experiences that bring people together. This blend of creativity and community engagement has helped the brewery maintain its popularity, even in a competitive craft beer landscape. However, recent labor-related controversies remind us that every business has room for growth and improvement. As Sly Fox continues to evolve, many hope it will prioritize not only great beer but also the well-being of its dedicated staff.

A Message to Other Employers

The Department of Labor isn’t taking violations lightly. “This legal action recovers the workers’ hard-earned wages and sends a message to other restaurant employers that violations come at a cost,” said Samantha N. Thomas, the Philadelphia Regional Solicitor of Labor.

The case against Sly Fox Brewing reinforces the importance of following labor laws and ensuring that tipped workers receive their full earnings.

Wrapping Up

While Sly Fox Brewing is known for its craft beer, this situation casts a shadow over the brand’s reputation. It’s a reminder that success in the craft beer world isn’t just about the product; it’s about the people.

As craft beer fans, we can use this moment to celebrate and support breweries that prioritize fairness and community. Let’s raise a glass to good beer—and to doing the right thing.

Aurochs Brewing Company Announce Their Upcoming Closure

Aurochs Brewing Company Will Cease Operations by End of 2024

Aurochs Brewing Company located at 8321 Ohio River Blvd, Emsworth, PA 15202 will be ceasing operations by the end of 2024. Its the start of the new month, but sadly also the beginning of the end for Aurochs Brewing Company. Over 10 years in business (established in 2012) and unfortunately they have had to make the tough and difficult decision to close by the end of the year. Known as one of the only gluten-free producing breweries not just in Pennsylvania, but in the greater east coast region; Aurochs Brewing made a name for themsleves over the 12 years of their operations.

Aurochs Brewing Company

Aurochs Brewing Company, located just outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, specializes in crafting naturally gluten-free beers. Founded by Ryan and Doug, both of whom have personal experiences with gluten intolerance—Ryan diagnosed in his twenties and Doug with Celiac disease since childhood—the brewery was born from a desire to create flavorful craft beers that are safe for those with gluten sensitivities. Since its inception, Aurochs has produced over 40 different styles of gluten-free beer, focusing on high-quality ingredients such as millet, quinoa, and buckwheat sourced from dedicated gluten-free suppliers.
The brewery has gained recognition for its commitment to quality and taste, winning a Gold Medal at the 2020 Great American Beer Festival for its Aurochs Hazy IPA. Their core lineup includes six year-round offerings: Aurochs Blonde Ale, Session IPA, Amber Ale, Porter, Light Lager, and Hazy IPA. Each beer is brewed in a dedicated gluten-free facility, ensuring that all products are free from wheat, barley, and rye. This meticulous process not only guarantees safety for consumers but also emphasizes the brewery’s mission to provide great-tasting beer without compromise.
In addition to their brewing operations, Aurochs has embraced modern distribution methods by offering direct shipping within Pennsylvania and expanding to neighboring states. The brewery’s taproom invites visitors to enjoy a variety of beers on draft alongside gluten-free snacks. With a focus on community and sustainability, Aurochs Brewing Company continues to grow its customer base while maintaining its commitment to producing exceptional gluten-free craft beer for all occasions.

Aurochs Brewing Closing by End of 2024

The Announcement

Aurochs Brewing Company posted the following on social media just two hours ago:

The End of our Story
Thank you for your support of Aurochs Brewing Company through its existence. Over 10 years ago, we set out with the goal of “changing the way the world experiences gluten-free beer”. In that time we have seen that happen many times over and are extremely grateful to have been one part of that larger evolution.
Today, it is with a heavy heart that we announce that Aurochs Brewing Company will be ceasing operations by the end of the year 2024.
We are proud to have brewed great-tasting, award-winning, naturally gluten-free beers that have resonated with many of you. Through your patronage we have been able to grow our footprint and meet the needs of gluten-free beer drinkers across our region.
With the help of our amazing staff and supporters we have given this endeavor everything we have. After years of hard work, countless late or sleepless nights, navigating the challenges of a global pandemic, and the rigors of building and scaling a dedicated gluten-free brewery our founder team has run out of gas. Although the brewery continues to grow in our home market, we do not have the personal resources to go to the next level or to continue operations beyond this year.
We are eternally grateful to our customers, partners, investors, and employees (past and present) who have made this journey so special. From the moment we opened our doors 10 years ago, you have shown up consistently, supporting Aurochs and pushing our dream forward.
We plan to open our tasting room while there is still beer available. We will communicate about hours of operations and opportunities to purchase the last batches of Aurochs.
Additionally, beer will be available for shipping throughout Pennsylvania only while supplies last. Any orders placed this weekend will be shipped out on Tuesday (11/5) with tracking information.
Thank you for taking this journey with us, thank you for your passion and support.
Doug & Ryan

Iron Hill Brewery Closes Phoenixville Location, Marking End of an Era for Bridge Street Mainstay https://thebeerthrillers.com/2024/10/29/iron-hill-brewery-closes-phoenixville-location-marking-end-of-an-era-for-bridge-street-mainstay/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=iron-hill-brewery-closes-phoenixville-location-marking-end-of-an-era-for-bridge-street-mainstay Wed, 30 Oct 2024 00:20:41 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=15656 Iron Hill Brewery Closes Phoenixville Location, Marking End of an Era for Bridge Street Mainstay

Iron Hill Brewing Company in Phoenixville PA is Closing

Iron Hill Brewery Closes Phoenixville Location

In a surprising turn for the Phoenixville community, Iron Hill Brewery, a staple in the heart of downtown for over a decade, has officially closed its doors. Confirmed by employees and reported by local sources, the closure leaves a noticeable gap on the popular Bridge Street—a hub for locals and visitors alike. Iron Hill Brewing in Phoenixville was located 130 Bridge Street.

Why Did Iron Hill Close?

While the exact reasons for Iron Hill’s closure remain unconfirmed, speculation points to common challenges faced by many local establishments: rising operational costs, increased competition, and evolving consumer preferences. This year alone has seen several Phoenixville institutions struggle, with PJ Ryan’s, a beloved spot for 16 years, also closing its doors this past August. The economic pressures on small and midsize businesses, particularly in the hospitality sector, continue to reshape Phoenixville’s dining and nightlife landscape.

A Farewell to Phoenixville Icons

Iron Hill and PJ Ryan’s weren’t just restaurants; they were pioneering spots that helped set the stage for the transformation of Bridge Street. They brought a sense of vibrancy and community long before Phoenixville’s full revitalization took hold. Their presence offered more than just good food and drink—they created spaces where friendships were formed, first dates happened, and countless celebrations were hosted. Now, their absence marks the end of an era that saw the rebirth of the Steel City.

What’s Next for Iron Hill’s Former Location?

Located at 130 Bridge Street, Iron Hill Brewery’s prime location sits across from Sedona Taphouse and down the block from other local favorites like Soltane Cafe and The Boardroom Game Cafe. While no announcements have been made regarding a new tenant, Bridge Street’s popularity suggests that another bar or restaurant may soon move in. Whether it becomes another local gem or a unique dining experience, it’s clear that Iron Hill’s closure opens up new opportunities.

Remaining Iron Hill Locations

For those looking to get their Iron Hill fix, the brewery’s other locations, including one in nearby West Chester, remain open and fully operational. While the Phoenixville closure is disappointing for local fans, Iron Hill’s regional footprint continues to grow and thrive, with additional locations throughout the area. There’s plenty more like the one in Hershey PA, as well as some in Georgia, New Jersey, Delaware, and elsewhere in Pennsylvania. For a full list check out their website here: Full List of Our Iron Hill Brewery Locations.

Phoenixville’s Evolving Craft Beer and Dining Scene

Phoenixville remains a vibrant, evolving community that embraces change while honoring its roots. With new breweries, cafes, and eateries emerging every season, the town’s dynamic spirit is evident on every corner. While we’ll miss Iron Hill’s familiar presence on Bridge Street, there’s excitement in knowing that the town’s craft beer and dining scene continues to evolve, always offering something fresh for locals and visitors alike.

Iron Hill Brewery’s closure may be the end of a chapter, but Phoenixville’s story is far from over. As Bridge Street continues to transform, one can only wonder: what awaits the heart of the Steel City?

Tattered Flag Brewery and Distillery in Middletown, PA

Tattered Flag Brewery & Still Works Sold to California-Based Tower Investments: A New Chapter for Middletown’s Historic Brewery

The beloved Tattered Flag Brewery & Still Works, a (former) staple of Middletown’s craft beer and spirits scene, has officially changed hands. California-based Tower Investments, operating locally as Middletown South Union Street, LLC, has purchased the historic property at 1 S. Union Street, according to Dauphin County deed records. This sale marks a significant moment for the community, as Tattered Flag was more than just a brewery; it was a gathering spot that held a special place in the hearts of local craft beer enthusiasts.

July 28th, 2023 Tattered Flag Brewery and Distillery announced their closure. It was announced that it was for sale (and was actually up for sale before the announcement of its closure). (Tattered Flag Brewery and Distillery For Sale.) After a while of being unable to sell the business, Tattered Flag Brewery and Distillery Ended Up For Auction. They went on the auction block in May 2024.

According to Nik Sgagias of NAI CIR, Tower Investments is actively seeking tenants for the space, hinting at possible new beginnings for the 13,000-square-foot property. Tattered Flag, known for its veteran-owned roots and innovative brews, closed its doors on October 1, 2023, following a public auction in June. The auction had a starting bid of $275,000, highlighting the historic and commercial appeal of this full-service restaurant, brewery, and distillery space.

The story of Tattered Flag began in 2015 when military veteran Pat Devlin and friends from Susquenita High School took on the massive renovation of the former Elks building. They transformed the two-story structure, which previously held three storefronts and a meeting room, into a unique brewpub and distillery, blending community spirit with a passion for craft beer and cocktails.

Over the years, Tattered Flag expanded to various locations, including taprooms in Lancaster, Gettysburg, and Derry Township. Unfortunately, these expansions—coupled with challenges from the pandemic, inflation, and labor shortages—eventually led to financial strain, and the decision to close the business was made earlier this year. The original Middletown location, however, remained a cherished landmark for both locals and visitors.

While Tower Investments has yet to comment on future plans, the company’s focus on real estate development suggests the property will likely find new life soon. Tower is a family-owned company specializing in real estate investment and development, with experience transforming properties across the country.

As Middletown awaits the next chapter for this historic location, locals can look back fondly on the memories made at Tattered Flag Brewery & Still Works, and many of us will be watching to see what the future holds for this beloved space in the heart of our community.

You can find out more about Tower Investments by checking out their website here: Tower Investments.
