June 29th Will be Fox House Brewing’s Last Day

As noted above, on Sunday June 29th, 2025, Fox House Brewing will be closing their Bordentown brewery permanently.

They posted this via social media:

Fox House will be closing permanently on Sunday, June 29th.

NJ brewery laws require that you have a location, zoning variance, all the buildout done, and a certificate of occupancy with all the equipment installed before a license is issued. This is while paying rent the whole time. As I’m sure you remember, opening Fox House took way longer than anticipated. So I had to skimp on brewhouse equipment with the intention of buying something more reliable later on. But it collapsed last week. While I could buy a new system today, it would take months to have it built, installed, and finish new batches. So I would have to close for a while.

I’m exhausted. I miss my wife and kids. So I’m taking this as an opportunity to bow out and hopefully hand it off to another brewery. While I’m disappointed and embarrassed, I would be even more disappointed and embarrassed had I not done something I could be proud of. And that’s what I did, for however fleeting a moment.

Thank you all for the support you have given me and the enjoyment you have taken in patronizing Fox House. I’m sorry that I couldn’t do better.

-Chris Campbell

Fox House Brewing Instagram Post

We recommend any and all to come on out on Sunday to wish them all well and to hope and give them good luck for the future. In the current state of not just the economy, but the craft brewery market, its getting harder and harder to find the margins and the profits, and its getting harder and harder for businesses and craft breweries especially to survive. We need to do all we can to help them continue to stay afloat and to patronize them where and whenever we can.

If we get any more information or news, we will be sure to post here, to stay tuned.

Scroll down to view the interactive map of all of the currently active breweries in the State of New Jersey. Click on the beer mugs to get locations, names, and other data about each brewery. There is also a list to the left that you can click the name of the brewery and it will bring up their location on the map itself.

Maps of Breweries in the United States

As a service and a resource to all of our readers, we are creating a full list of all of the breweries in the United States. Starting with Maine and working geographically we are planning on getting all 50 states done, as well as all territories and districts, as well as a fun map of all of the breweries we personally have been to. We are then planning to combine them all into one large map of all of America.

Who knows, if I’m not completely brain dead by the endeavor afterwards I might do Canada and Mexico as well, and then work our way through other countries.

I’m sure nearly as soon as I get each state done new breweries will open and old ones will close. So I am going to need some help from everyone to keeping these up to date. If you notice any breweries missing or ones that have closed, please let us know. Thank you so very much.

Map of Breweries in New Jersey

The above is a map of breweries in the state of New Jersey. If you know of any missing (or closed) please let us know by leaving a comment, using our CONTACT US page, or e – mailing us directly at thebeerthrillers@gmail.com

How to Use The Map

You can zoom in, and click on each of the beer mugs with the paw prints on them to see the breweries. This will call up their address via Google Maps, as well as any other information they have supplied to Google (phone numbers, websites, etc.). You can also save this map to your Google Maps so when you call up Google Maps these locations will be pinned onto your map as an overlay.

Maps of Breweries in the United States of America (USA)

The below is a list of maps of the states, territories, and districts of the United States. As well as a fun map of all the breweries that The Beer Thrillers have been to. I am working on getting these done geographically, starting with Maine. (When the state is underlined and in color, means the map is done and ready to be viewed.)

Bucket Brigade Brewery Has Closed https://thebeerthrillers.com/2025/01/19/bucket-brigade-brewery-has-closed/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=bucket-brigade-brewery-has-closed Sun, 19 Jan 2025 19:42:14 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=15893 Bucket Brigade Brewery Has Closed

The brewery – located at 205 N Main St, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210 – has announced its closure yesterday (January 18th, 2025) via social media accounts. Their post states that the final day of the brewery’s operations will be on Sunday, January 26th, 2025.

Bucket Brigade Brewery Closing

Bucket Brigade Brewery’s announcement via social media.

Their post on Facebook reads:

After careful consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision to close the doors of Bucket Brigade Brewery for good on January 26th. For the past 7 years, your support, passion, and friendship have meant the world to us—we can’t thank you enough for the memories we’ve shared and the community we’ve built together.
Over the last two years, it’s been clear that Bucket Brigade has evolved under Karl’s son Karlson’s leadership as head brewer. In just a year and a half, he’s earned 15 awards and taken the brewery to bold, exciting places. But with those changes came growing pains, and ultimately, Bucket Brigade Brewery wasn’t able to adapt as a brand to keep pace with Karlson’s innovative direction.
While this marks the end of Bucket Brigade, we’re excited for what’s next: Karlson will be taking over our building and launching his own venture, **Obscura Brewing Co.** Inspired by his love of pushing boundaries and exploring the unknown, Obscura Brewing Co. captures Karlson’s spirit of innovation—and with his stellar track record, we have no doubt it’s going to be something truly special.
Mark your calendars for March 6th, when Obscura Brewing Co. opens its doors for a soft opening party and AC Beer Fest ticket event. We’re thrilled to see Karlson carry on the tradition of great beer and a welcoming atmosphere—just with a fresh, new twist.
In the meantime, we’re holding a blowout sale at Bucket Brigade through January 26th. Enjoy Karlson’s outstanding beers at a fraction of the cost—mix-and-match a case of any packs for just $25. Stock up, reminisce, and toast these final days of the Bucket as we close this chapter.
We invite you to stop by, share your favorite stories, and say goodbye to Bucket Brigade in person. If you’d like to claim any donated memorabilia, please coordinate with Karl Sr directly.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for helping us make the last 7 years so unforgettable. We’re sad to say farewell to Bucket Brigade, but we’re equally excited to see Karlson forge a new path with Obscura Brewing Co. Cheers, and we hope to raise a glass with you soon!
So looks like all is not over; as Karlson will be still brewing with a new brewery called “Obscura Brewing Company”. More news will be upcoming on their opening and what all will be happening with them.
Also be sure to stay informed via Bucket Brigade’s social media pages as they announce closing hours and sales.
Amy and I got to visit Bucket Brigade Brewery back in 2021 (in either October or November). Here’s to the future of Obscura Brewing Company and hoping all is well for all those and their future endeavors wherever they may end up.
Just yesterday we announced also that the Beer Busters Podcast will be hanging it up, and today we unfortunately have this news, and it sounds like we’ll be making a post about another brewery’s closing tomorrow if the rumors be true (unfortunately). So be tuned in for that.

Beer Busters Podcast: Episode 269: So Long, and Thanks for all the Beer

Beer Busters Podcast

Beer Busters is a podcast dedicated to celebrating and exploring the world of craft beer. The show was founded in 2013 by brothers Dan and Wayne Baker, along with their cousin Steph Heffner. Since its inception, Beer Busters has been a bi-weekly podcast where the hosts sit down with brewers, owners, representatives, and others in the craft beer industry to sip brews and discuss various topics related to beer. The podcast format typically includes:

  1. Interviews with industry professionals
  2. Discussions about beer history and brewing techniques
  3. News segments about the craft beer world
  4. Interactive segments like “Know Your Beers” and “Happy Fun Time”

For example, in a 2015 episode, Dan brought news stories about NFL beer prices and Metallica beer cans, while Steph taught listeners how to prepare for a beer event in the “Know Your Beers” segment. Over the years, Beer Busters has covered a wide range of topics, including:

  • The history and origins of non-alcoholic beer
  • Different beer production methods
  • Community reactions to various beer trends
  • Beer-related events, particularly in the Philadelphia area

The podcast has featured numerous guests from the craft beer industry. In a December 2022 episode, they hosted Matthew Steinberg (Co-Founder and Head Brewer) and Kelsey Roth (General Manager) from Exhibit ‘A’ Brewing Company, discussing topics such as local sourcing, sustainable practices, and social initiatives in brewing. Beer Busters has maintained its presence across various podcast platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and others. The show continues to provide listeners with a mix of education, entertainment, and insider perspectives on the craft beer industry.

Meet the Beer Busters

The Beer Busters podcast is primarily hosted by three individuals:

  1. Dan Baker: One of the founding members of the podcast, Dan is a brother to Wayne and cousin to Steph. He often takes the lead in hosting segments like “Happy Fun Time” and brings news stories to discuss on the show.
  2. Steph Heffner: Another founding member, Steph is a cousin to Dan and Wayne. She has been known to lead educational segments like “Know Your Beers,” sharing her knowledge about beer and brewing with listeners.
  3. Wayne Baker: The third core member of the podcast, Wayne is Dan’s brother. While sometimes absent from episodes due to other commitments, he is an integral part of the team and contributes to the show’s dynamic.

These three hosts have been consistently involved with Beer Busters since its inception in 2013. They travel to breweries and other beer-related locations to record episodes, interviewing industry professionals and exploring various aspects of craft beer culture. Occasionally, the podcast features guest hosts or longtime friends of the show. For example:

  1. Mark Graves: Described as “Slimy Sauce himself,” Mark is a longtime friend from the earliest days of Beer Busters who has filled in for Wayne when he was unable to attend a recording session.

The Beer Busters team has maintained their dedication to celebrating and exploring the world of craft beer for over a decade, providing listeners with a mix of education, entertainment, and insider perspectives on the brewing industry

The Beer Busters Podcast, which ran from 2013 to 2025, left an indelible mark on the craft beer community. For over a decade, hosts Dan Baker, Steph Heffner, and Wayne Baker traveled to breweries and beer-related locations, bringing listeners a unique blend of education, entertainment, and insider perspectives on the brewing industry. Their dedication to celebrating and exploring the world of craft beer resonated with audiences, earning them a loyal following and a 4.8-star rating on Apple Podcasts.
Throughout its run, Beer Busters consistently delivered engaging content, featuring interviews with industry professionals, discussions on beer history and brewing techniques, and interactive segments like “Know Your Beers” and “Happy Fun Time”. The podcast’s final episode, aptly titled “So Long, And Thanks For All The Beer,” aired on January 19, 2025, marking the end of an era for craft beer enthusiasts. In their farewell message, the hosts expressed gratitude to their listeners and encouraged them to “be true to yourselves and kind to each other,” reflecting the warm and inclusive spirit that characterized the show. The podcast ran from May 6, 2013, to January 19, 2025, completing 275 episodes over nearly 12 years. They maintained their signature style of traveling to breweries, interviewing industry professionals, and featuring their popular “Happy Fun Time” segments throughout their run.
Beer Busters’ legacy extends beyond its audio content. The podcast played a significant role in showcasing Pennsylvania’s German brewing heritage and leadership in brewing German-style lagers. By providing a platform for brewers, owners, and industry representatives to share their stories and expertise, Beer Busters contributed to the growth and appreciation of craft beer culture. As the craft beer landscape continues to evolve, the impact of Beer Busters’ 12-year journey in educating and entertaining beer enthusiasts will undoubtedly be remembered and cherished by its dedicated listeners.

Ross Brewing Company Has Announced the Closing of their Tasting Room in Port Monmouth

Ross Brewing to Close its Tasting Room in Port Monmouth

With unfortunate news – Ross Brewing Company has made the difficult decision to close their tasting room in Port Monmouth. They made the announcement via social media (Facebook and Instagram). Their post does say that they will continue to make, sell, and distribute their beers – with even new beers in the pipeline. Just that they are closing the tasting room.

For us here at The Beer Thrillers we’ve enjoyed getting to try their great brews at the Atlantic City Beerfests each year (a few times their beers have been in our “Top 5” of the fest). They’ve also jumped on our group – The Beer Thrillers (Group) on Facebook, and have been welcome members of the group.

The tasting room is located at: 909 Main St, Port Monmouth, NJ 07758.

The Announcement

Here is their announcement, posted via Facebook:

🍻🚨𝗟𝗔𝗦𝗧 𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧!🚨🍻
Attention #rossarmy! We have some major news you’re not going to want to miss. We have made the incredibly difficult decision to shut down the Ross Brewing tasting room in Port Monmouth. We will continue to distribute our delicious beers to our distribution customers and even have some amazing new beers in the pipeline that will be released in the coming weeks and months (including the return of an oft-asked for old fave!). But as far as the tasting room goes, it has simply become impossible to continue on with the current economics. We want to thank each and every one of you who has made these last five years of selling beer, and last year and a half of serving customers in person in Port Monmouth, nothing but the purest joy. We wish we could do this forever, but alas, it’s not to be. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟮𝗻𝗱, 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝘄𝗲’𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂.
But fret not! The weather looks great this weekend, and we’ll be having 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗵𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗵! 🎉 We’ve got great food trucks all weekend long 🍔🍕🌮, great live music all weekend long 🎸🎤🎶, and great deals on takeaway beer too! We’ll also be putting some surprise beers on tap all weekend long, with a constantly rotating tap list! 🍺🍺🍺
So don’t shed a tear for what we’re losing. Instead, let’s celebrate what we’ve had together. An amazing and unique brewery experience that quite simply hasn’t–and can’t–be duplicated anywhere else!
So join us for the 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗳𝗳 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺, and allow us to say goodbye in person to each and every one of you. And it goes without saying–feel free to bring your four-legged friends as well, as we’ll miss them too!
Thank you so much for all your support, we love and appreciate every one of you!❤️🙏 And please continue to support the brand as we continue to ship our beers out to the bars, restaurants, liquor stores, and supermarkets in this great Garden State!

Ross Brewing Company Has Announced the Closing of their Tasting Room in Port Monmouth

After celebrating its one-year anniversary in Port Monmouth and five years of brewing, Ross Brewing Co. will be closing its tasting room doors on Sunday, June 2.

In an Instagram post on Thursday, May 30, the brewery cited “current economics” as the reason for the closure.

“We have made the incredibly difficult decision to shut down the Ross Brewing tasting room in Port Monmouth,” the announcement read. “We will continue to distribute our delicious beers to our distribution customers and even have some amazing new beers in the pipeline that will be released in the coming weeks and months.”

Owner John Ross Cocozza mentioned that the primary reason for the closure was a particularly slow winter, along with the impacts of COVID and New Jersey’s craft beer laws.

“Things that are amazing about our site, like our waterfront location and beautiful outdoor beer gardens, they kind of work against us in the cold weather,” he said, despite the brewery’s successful events this year like St. Patrick’s Day, and their anniversary party. “It just wasn’t enough to get us out of the hole from the winter, and that hole magnified some existing issues in the state. In the past year or so, we’ve already lost about 16 craft breweries in New Jersey.”

-John Ross Cocozza

Breweries in New Jersey, according to Cocozza, face stricter regulations compared to states like Pennsylvania, where serving food is permitted. Additionally, other states allow online beer sales.

Cocozza blamed “the four horsemen of the pandemic: the quarantine, the supply chain crisis, inflation, and interest rate hikes” for their challenges.

“COVID shut down many customers, bars, and restaurants, some of which never reopened, and it slowed our construction,” he explained. “This led to the supply chain crisis, which then caused inflation. All our costs, such as grains and cans for packaging, have skyrocketed, and it’s impossible to pass these costs onto the consumer. You can’t charge $15 for a pint of beer.”

The brewery will host one final celebration this weekend, featuring food trucks, live music, deals on to-go beers, and some surprise beers on tap.

The pet-friendly party will take place from noon to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from noon to 8 p.m. on Sunday. Food trucks will arrive around 2 p.m., and live music will start at 4 p.m. on Friday, 2 p.m. on Saturday, and 4 p.m. on Sunday. The beer list will be continuously updated, featuring old favorites and new releases.

After the party ends on Sunday, the tasting room will officially close. Ross Brewing Co. beers will still be available in bars, restaurants, and liquor and grocery stores. The brewery will also remain active at festivals and farmers’ markets.

Cocozza is collaborating with breweries like Alternate Ending Beer Co. in Aberdeen and Five Dimes Brewery in Red Bank to reschedule events that were planned at Ross.

The brewery is known for its location-themed beers, such as Ross Shrewsbury Lager, an amber lager, and Ross Navesink Double IPA. They have also released popular specials over the years, like Sully’s Irish Stout and Launch Party, a pomegranate-infused New England IPA.

Cocozza hinted at a possible return.

“I don’t know anything yet, but I have a feeling that people will probably see us again in some form sooner than they think,” he said.

“I don’t know if I’ll ever find a more suitable location,” Cocozza added. “Our logo is a sailboat, and we love being on the water. Having Jersey’s only waterfront brewery is probably the best location we’ll ever find, but we would look for something with significantly lower overheads, on a smaller scale.”

The May 30 post expressed gratitude and appreciation.

“We want to thank each and every one of you who has made these last five years of selling beer, and the last year and a half of serving customers in person in Port Monmouth, nothing but pure joy. We wish we could do this forever, but alas, it’s not to be.

“Don’t shed a tear for what we’re losing,” the post continued. “Instead, let’s celebrate what we’ve had together, an amazing and unique brewery experience that simply can’t be duplicated anywhere else.”

AI, Umbrellas, and the War on Lanternflies: A High Schooler’s High-Tech Trap https://thebeerthrillers.com/2024/05/10/ai-umbrellas-and-the-war-on-lanternflies-a-high-schoolers-high-tech-trap/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=ai-umbrellas-and-the-war-on-lanternflies-a-high-schoolers-high-tech-trap Sat, 11 May 2024 02:21:05 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=16337 AI, Umbrellas, and the War on Lanternflies: A High Schooler’s High-Tech Trap

A lanternfly about to take flight in rural PA

If you live in Pennsylvania or New Jersey, you’ve probably seen them: those flashy, polka-dotted pests known as spotted lanternflies. They’re more than just a backyard nuisance—they’re a full-blown ecological menace. But thanks to one inventive teen, we may finally have a smarter way to fight back.

Meet Selina Zhang, an 18-year-old from Annandale, NJ, who turned her family’s patio umbrella into a solar-powered, AI-driven bug zapper called ArTreeficial. Think of it as a synthetic tree that lures lanternflies with the scent of their favorite host—the invasive tree of heaven—and then zaps them with precision-targeted electricity. It’s like Dance Dance Revolution meets pest control.

A Smarter, Safer Trap

The trap created to catch the lanternflies

Traditional methods like sticky bands and insecticides have their downsides: they can harm bees, birds, and other non-target species. Zhang’s approach is different. She spent weeks observing lanternfly behavior, capturing over 500 photos to train her AI model. The result? A double-layered mesh that only activates when a lanternfly steps on it, delivering a localized electric shock that leaves other insects unharmed.

From Backyard to Broad Impact

A tree covered in lanternflies

Zhang’s invention has garnered national attention, earning her a spot as a finalist in the prestigious Regeneron Science Talent Search. She envisions deploying multiple ArTreeficial units to create an “ArTreeForest,” a networked defense against invasive species. At around $200 per unit, she’s already in talks with local farmers to make this solution scalable.

The Bigger Picture

Lanternfly Nymphs

This isn’t just a cool science project; it’s a potential game-changer in sustainable pest management. By combining AI, renewable energy, and a deep understanding of insect behavior, Zhang is paving the way for more targeted and environmentally friendly solutions to invasive species.

For those battling lanternflies in their own yards, there are commercial options available, such as the Lanternfly Trap Co Spotted Lanternfly Tree Trap and the Pest Wizard Spotted Lanternfly Trap Kit. While these don’t incorporate AI, they offer immediate relief and are readily accessible. In the meantime, keep an eye out for those red-winged invaders—and perhaps consider how a bit of ingenuity and tech-savvy could help turn the tide.
