Nestled in the heart of Green Lane, Pennsylvania, Perkiomen Valley Brewery stands as a testament to the power of passion, inclusivity, and exceptional craft beer. This unique nano-brewery has quickly become a beloved fixture in the local community, offering not just artisanal brews but also a welcoming space for all. Located at 101 Walnut St, Green Lane, PA 18054, Perkiomen Valley Brewery is a staple, and mainstay of their community, as well as the online craft brewing community.

Perkiomen Valley Brewery

A Brewery with a Mission

Perkiomen Valley Brewery isn’t just about crafting great beer; it’s about creating a space where everyone feels welcome. Founded by Kelly and Tom Weiss, this family-owned brewery was born out of a desire to make life more meaningful and easier for families like theirs, who navigate the challenges of autism.

The brewery’s commitment to inclusivity is evident in every aspect of its operation:

  • Fully accessible taproom: The space is designed to be both mobility and sensory-friendly.
  • ADA compliant: Features include push-button entry and exit, and a dual-height bar to accommodate wheelchair users.
  • Sensory considerations: The brewery includes a dedicated sensory room and uses LED daylight lighting to aid those with low vision.
  • Family-friendly facilities: A unisex family/companion bathroom with an adult-sized changing table is available.

Artisanal Beers with a Story

Perkiomen Valley Brewery prides itself on small-batch, handcrafted beers that taste like they’ve just come out of your grandparents’ kitchen. Their brewing philosophy combines traditional styles with innovative, foraged, and botanical ingredients, resulting in unique flavor profiles that captivate beer enthusiasts.

Some of their standout brews include:

  • Shagbark Old English Ale: A 7.6% ABV ale featuring foraged shagbark hickory, offering notes of toasted marshmallow.
  • Sadie’s Dandelion Amber Ale: A 6.5% ABV amber ale brewed with foraged dandelions, embodying the brewery’s creative use of local ingredients.
  • St. Dymphna Belgian Tripel: A traditional Belgian-style tripel brewed with Noble hops and candied sugars.

Community-Focused Brewing

Perkiomen Valley Brewery isn’t just about making great beer; it’s about fostering a sense of community. The brewery serves as a gathering place for locals and visitors alike, encouraging patrons to bring their own food and enjoy the warm, inviting atmosphere. The owners’ background in supporting individuals with autism has also influenced their business model. The brewery actively supports jobs for individuals underrepresented in the workforce, particularly those on the autism spectrum.

A Unique Taproom Experience

Housed in a repurposed old bank building, the Perkiomen Valley Brewery taproom offers a charming blend of history and modernity. Visitors can enjoy their beers surrounded by antiques and artifacts from the original bank, including cash registers and repurposed desk items.

The taproom’s operating hours are:

  • Thursday: 4-10 PM
  • Friday: 3-10 PM
  • Saturday: 12-10 PM
  • Sunday: 12-6 PM

Aurochs Brewing Company Will Cease Operations by End of 2024 https://thebeerthrillers.com/2024/11/01/aurochs-brewing-company-will-cease-operations-by-end-of-2024/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=aurochs-brewing-company-will-cease-operations-by-end-of-2024 Fri, 01 Nov 2024 21:00:21 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=15654 Aurochs Brewing Company Will Cease Operations by End of 2024

Aurochs Brewing Company Announce Their Upcoming Closure

Aurochs Brewing Company Will Cease Operations by End of 2024

Aurochs Brewing Company located at 8321 Ohio River Blvd, Emsworth, PA 15202 will be ceasing operations by the end of 2024. Its the start of the new month, but sadly also the beginning of the end for Aurochs Brewing Company. Over 10 years in business (established in 2012) and unfortunately they have had to make the tough and difficult decision to close by the end of the year. Known as one of the only gluten-free producing breweries not just in Pennsylvania, but in the greater east coast region; Aurochs Brewing made a name for themsleves over the 12 years of their operations.

Aurochs Brewing Company

Aurochs Brewing Company, located just outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, specializes in crafting naturally gluten-free beers. Founded by Ryan and Doug, both of whom have personal experiences with gluten intolerance—Ryan diagnosed in his twenties and Doug with Celiac disease since childhood—the brewery was born from a desire to create flavorful craft beers that are safe for those with gluten sensitivities. Since its inception, Aurochs has produced over 40 different styles of gluten-free beer, focusing on high-quality ingredients such as millet, quinoa, and buckwheat sourced from dedicated gluten-free suppliers.
The brewery has gained recognition for its commitment to quality and taste, winning a Gold Medal at the 2020 Great American Beer Festival for its Aurochs Hazy IPA. Their core lineup includes six year-round offerings: Aurochs Blonde Ale, Session IPA, Amber Ale, Porter, Light Lager, and Hazy IPA. Each beer is brewed in a dedicated gluten-free facility, ensuring that all products are free from wheat, barley, and rye. This meticulous process not only guarantees safety for consumers but also emphasizes the brewery’s mission to provide great-tasting beer without compromise.
In addition to their brewing operations, Aurochs has embraced modern distribution methods by offering direct shipping within Pennsylvania and expanding to neighboring states. The brewery’s taproom invites visitors to enjoy a variety of beers on draft alongside gluten-free snacks. With a focus on community and sustainability, Aurochs Brewing Company continues to grow its customer base while maintaining its commitment to producing exceptional gluten-free craft beer for all occasions.

Aurochs Brewing Closing by End of 2024

The Announcement

Aurochs Brewing Company posted the following on social media just two hours ago:

The End of our Story
Thank you for your support of Aurochs Brewing Company through its existence. Over 10 years ago, we set out with the goal of “changing the way the world experiences gluten-free beer”. In that time we have seen that happen many times over and are extremely grateful to have been one part of that larger evolution.
Today, it is with a heavy heart that we announce that Aurochs Brewing Company will be ceasing operations by the end of the year 2024.
We are proud to have brewed great-tasting, award-winning, naturally gluten-free beers that have resonated with many of you. Through your patronage we have been able to grow our footprint and meet the needs of gluten-free beer drinkers across our region.
With the help of our amazing staff and supporters we have given this endeavor everything we have. After years of hard work, countless late or sleepless nights, navigating the challenges of a global pandemic, and the rigors of building and scaling a dedicated gluten-free brewery our founder team has run out of gas. Although the brewery continues to grow in our home market, we do not have the personal resources to go to the next level or to continue operations beyond this year.
We are eternally grateful to our customers, partners, investors, and employees (past and present) who have made this journey so special. From the moment we opened our doors 10 years ago, you have shown up consistently, supporting Aurochs and pushing our dream forward.
We plan to open our tasting room while there is still beer available. We will communicate about hours of operations and opportunities to purchase the last batches of Aurochs.
Additionally, beer will be available for shipping throughout Pennsylvania only while supplies last. Any orders placed this weekend will be shipped out on Tuesday (11/5) with tracking information.
Thank you for taking this journey with us, thank you for your passion and support.
Doug & Ryan

LAKEFRONT SUPPORTS SUICIDE PREVENTION WITH A BEER AND AN EVENT

Lakefront Brewery has brewed its “Save A Weiss” beer once again to help raise awareness of National Suicide Prevention Week, which begins Sunday, Sept. 8th.

Lakefront Brewery is teaming up, once again, with a nationwide coalition of brewers for a suicide prevention awareness initiative inspired by O.H.S.O Brewing in Phoenix, Arizona. O.H.S.O owner, Jon Lane, had lost family and friends to suicide, and even had ideations himself. He credits the stranger he spoke to after dialing 988 for saving his life. In July of 2020, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) formally designated 988 as a nationwide 3-digit lifeline for mental health crisis and suicide prevention services. Lakefront hopes their “Save A Weiss” beer will raise awareness of the help out there, and with 988, there’s always a listening ear available.

“Our efforts last year meant so much to us, we wanted to repeat helping this very important cause,” said Lakefront Brewery President, Russ Klisch. “Please, come on down, have a beer, and maybe learn a little about suicide prevention.”

With the start of National Suicide Prevention Week on Sunday, September 8th, Lakefront will be donating $1 of every pint sold of the German-style Wheat Ale, Save A Weiss, to the AFSP Wisconsin chapter. The AFSP organization is focused on eliminating the loss of life from suicide by delivering innovative prevention programs, educating the public, raising funds for suicide research, and reaching out to those who have lost someone to suicide. Grab a pint all week long through Sunday, September 14th.

Help us and all the other collaborating breweries spread the word about the 988 suicide prevention line. It could literally save a life. Learn more about the 988 lifeline by clicking here.

*The Save A Weiss Wheat Ale will be on tap starting Thursday, September 5th, and the $1 donations will also begin that day.

At 6pm tonight, Lakefront is partnering with the Wisconsin AFSP to host a “Talk Saves Lives” Happy Hour at their Beer Hall. “Talk Saves Lives: An Introduction to Suicide Prevention” is a community-based presentation that covers the general scope of suicide, the research on prevention, and what people can do to fight suicide. Free registration is preferred, but not required: https://tsllfbwi.attendease.com/  Anyone 21+ may join.

Lakefront Brewery, Inc. distributes its products to over 30 states, Sweden, Ukraine, and Canada. Lakefront Brewery is the first brewery in Wisconsin and 22nd brewery in the world to be certified as a B Corporation. Lakefront Brewery also produced the first beer in the United States made from 100% in-state-grown ingredients, including a first-of-its-kind, indigenous Wisconsin yeast strain (Wisconsinite Summer Weiss), the first certified organic brewery and the first gluten-free beer granted approval by the U.S. Government (New Grist). (We will eventually get to the US Territories, as well as the Canadian Provinces, and possibly more countries; as well as doing some fun maps like a map of all the breweries we’ve been to, and other fun maps.) You can find the brewery maps here:

We are also working on a project of creating printable and downloadable PDFs and resources to be able to check and keep track of all of the breweries you’ve been to. So stay tuned for that project once we are finished with the Brewery Maps of the US States.

LAKEFRONT BREWERY WELCOMES PUPPIES TO THEIR PATIO FOR A JR’S PUPS-N-STUFF SUPPLY DRIVE https://thebeerthrillers.com/2024/09/03/lakefront-brewery-welcomes-puppies-to-their-patio-for-a-jrs-pups-n-stuff-supply-drive/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=lakefront-brewery-welcomes-puppies-to-their-patio-for-a-jrs-pups-n-stuff-supply-drive Tue, 03 Sep 2024 14:28:27 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=15485

LAKEFRONT BREWERY WELCOMES PUPPIES TO THEIR PATIO FOR A JR’S PUPS-N-STUFF SUPPLY DRIVE

LAKEFRONT BREWERY WELCOMES PUPPIES TO THEIR PATIO FOR A JR’S PUPS-N-STUFF SUPPLY DRIVE

Lakefront is partnering with local volunteer/foster-based Wauwatosa dog rescue to gather much needed supplies for their mission.

“When we launched our Ripple Effect donation program last year, we asked our staff what organizations they would like to partner with in the community, which put JR’s Pups-N-Stuff on the top of our list from the beginning” says Lakefront’s Donation Coordinator Liz Mauritz. Lakefront is thrilled to be hosting a puppy supply drive on Lakefront’s patio this Sunday, September 8th from 11am to 4pm.

“There will definitely be adoptable dogs and maybe even some kittens,” added Mauritz.

JR’s Pups-N-Stuff is a nonprofit volunteer/foster-based dog rescue located in Salem Lakes and Wauwatosa. Their rescue was built by a network of foster parents who do not discriminate because of breed, age, or health status. Over the 15 years that they’ve operated, north of 10,000 dogs have found forever homes. This Sunday, they will be collecting much-needed supplies to continue their mission of saving animal lives.

To see a list of items that will make a significant impact for JR’s, visit Lakefront’s website HERE. Bring those items down to Lakefront on Sunday and donate directly to representatives from the organization. Those who donate new or gently used supplies will receive a free beer on Lakefront and a $5 donation or more will get you a spin of JR’s prize wheel.

Lakefront Brewery Tour Guide, Chad Lehman, knows JR’s Pups-N-Stuff well.

“We have been fostering at JR’s for about 6 years,” says Lehman. “We got into it after we adopted one of our dogs from them 7 years ago. It’s incredibly rewarding to find the perfect fit for both the foster dog and the people looking to adopt. Many of these dogs have not had the best start in life and if we can turn that around, that’s the ultimate goal.”

The following comes via Untappd. Source Brewing is a microbrewery from Colts Neck, NJ. They have 494 unique beers and over 147,000 ratings, with a global average rating of 4.02 (as of 6.4.24). Their Untappd description reads: “Our mission is to create the ideal environment for people to enjoy hand-crafted, farm-to-glass ales and lagers brewed on site. We have a deep respect for beer and see it as more than just a simple beverage or means to an end. Beer can have a personality, tell a story, wow the senses, and bring people together. That is our vision, and when we first saw the 125-year-old dairy barn on a beautiful farm in the agricultural town of Colts Neck, NJ we knew we had found the right place set off on our mission to curate the ideal beer drinking experience.

The Battle of the Breweries (2024) – Conference Round of 4

We are down to just sixteen (16) breweries left in the competition! Four (4) in each of the conferences! Each of the remaining breweries are just a few wins away from being crowned the 2024 Battle of the Breweries Champion! This is the landing page. Click below for each specific conference to vote in the match-ups:

Voting Rules

You can vote once per day, for each conference. Each day you can visit each of the Conference Articles and scroll down to the voting block, and vote once for each brewery duel. Each day you will be able to come to the site to make your votes in the polls. It will be set-up by IPS, so it limits you to voting just once per day per vote. You can vote as many times as you want per round, but only once per day.

We encourage you to share on all of your various social media accounts the pages to help maximize the votes your favorite brewery (or breweries) will receive.

Voting for the Conference Round of Four ends at 11:59:59 PM EST on Sunday, March 31st, 2024.

Cordial Elf Grand Cru Releases Thursday https://thebeerthrillers.com/2024/01/31/cordial-elf-grand-cru-releases-thursday/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=cordial-elf-grand-cru-releases-thursday Wed, 31 Jan 2024 13:56:38 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=13735 Cordial Elf is Back, and This Time Its Gonna be Grand

The Cordial Elf is back for your Valentine’s Day needs, but this year – its gonna be grand!

This year Cordial Elf is using the Mad Elf Grand Cru base (rather than regular Mad Elf like last year), and they will be using a chocolate syrup in the recipe rather than cocoa nibs as an addition. These changes will be giving the beer a more robust, poignant, and rich taste.

Cordial Elf Grand Cru will be releasing tomorrow – Thursday – February 1st, 2024. It will be sold in 16 oz cans, in four packs, cases, and singles, at the Hershey brewery only. This will be a brewery exclusive to the Hershey Troegs Brewery.

On Valentine’s Day there will be a special ‘booked tour’ beer dinner in their barrel room. This will be a multiple course meal and will come with a different Troegs beer pairing for each course. As of right now, the only known beer that will be served is the Cordial Elf Grand Cru.

Tomorrow is the release of Cordial Elf Grand Cru at the Hershey’s Troegs Brewery. The brewery is located at 200 E Hershey Park Drive, Hershey, Pennsylvania. It will be on draft, as well as for sale in the general store. No word on to – go limits as of now.

Troegs Independent Brewing just released Little Nator on Monday, as well as their Perpetual Exploration Variety Pack. Both are available in the general store. They will be releasing First Cut at the end of February.

Founded in Pennsylvania in 1997 by brothers John and Chris Trogner, Tröegs Independent Brewing is driven by a sense of adventure and curiosity. Our brewery has been built by family, friends and kindred spirits who share a love of great beer. Together, we all make Tröegs. You might know our Perpetual IPA, the best-selling IPA in Pennsylvania. Or the dark, malty and crisp Troegenator. You may have come across such iconic beers as Nugget Nectar or Mad Elf in your beer travels. Perhaps you’ve been lucky enough to try one or two of the hundreds of experimental Scratch Series beers we’ve brewed over the years. Whether you’re already a member of our extended family or you’re just getting to know our brewery, there’s always something new to discover with Tröegs.

We are working on a massive project here at The Beer Thrillers. We are creating a map of all of the breweries across the United States. State by state we are adding maps of all of the different states with every brewery in each state.

Ingenious Brewing Announces the Upcoming Closure of their Brewery https://thebeerthrillers.com/2023/12/26/ingenious-brewing-announces-the-upcoming-closure-of-their-brewery/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=ingenious-brewing-announces-the-upcoming-closure-of-their-brewery Tue, 26 Dec 2023 21:06:10 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=13410 Ingenious Brewing Announces the Upcoming Closure of their Brewery

Sadly, a fantastic and wonderful brewery from Humble, Texas has announced that they will be closing.

They took to social media to post the following:

Greetings craft beer friends.

It is with a heavy heart that today we have to announce the upcoming closure of our dear brewery. As many of you are aware, COVID-19 and the consequential economic/sociologic changes have been brutal to craft beer industry; we were no exception.

Early on we held hope that the economic climate would improve for our industry in time. We just had to “weather the storm”. We strapped down and pivoted every way possible to try and lessen the loss. Unfortunately it’s now nearly 3 years later and despite multiple rounds of loans and the employee retention credits keeping us floating, the outlook is even worse than when this started. Sadly, with no end in site to the financial losses and lack of viable assistance options we have no choice but to close this chapter in our lives.

We still have a handful of batches to finish which will hit markets soon and our last day of taproom operations will be January 6th. More details on these to be announced soon.

Finally, we couldn’t make a depressing announcement like this without reflecting on the positives. Over the last 6 years we have had the extreme pleasure of producing a product and brand that brought joy to thousands. The support we had from the community was amazing and we are beyond thankful for everyone who helped us get this far. Along the way we met exceptional people. We worked and made lasting relationships with exceptional people. These memories will last a lifetime for us and there is great solice in that.

Cheers to all,

-Justin, Mike, and the rest of the Ingenious crew.

Ingenious Brewing Company – Facebook Post

Over the past six years Ingenious Brewing has built up a reputation and a following. Garnering quite a fair bit of followers.

I can recall several wonderful Ingenious beers I’ve had at the past few Ffej of July’s.

It is such a shame to see them close up shop, and we sincerely hope all those involved find new wonderful employment soon, and that the void in their absence gets filled quickly – or at least sooner rather than later.
