Breckenridge Brewing Company Opens Third Taproom https://thebeerthrillers.com/2024/07/29/breckenridge-brewing-company-opens-third-taproom/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=breckenridge-brewing-company-opens-third-taproom Mon, 29 Jul 2024 13:09:52 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=15342

Breckenridge Brewing

Breckenridge Brewing Company Opens Third Taproom

Breckenridge Brewery, one of Colorado’s pioneering craft beer makers, is set to begin a new chapter this August by moving into the vibrant Fort Collins beer scene. Now owned by global cannabis company Tilray, the brewery will take over and rebrand the taproom currently operated by Sweetwater Brewing at 1020 E. Lincoln Ave. Tilray, which also owns Sweetwater, Green Flash Brewing, Alpine, Blue Point, and others, announced that the transition will occur on August 17, with a celebration featuring live music and giveaways.

Tilray explained to The Denver Post, “Considering Breck Brew’s deep-rooted history in Colorado and its connections to the local craft beer community, we, along with Sweetwater Brewing, have decided that Breckenridge Brewery should take over the East Lincoln Avenue taproom this August. Sweetwater has had a successful run in Fort Collins for the past 2.5 years, but we believe it’s fitting for an iconic Colorado brand like Breckenridge Brewery to make its mark in Fort Collins, a city known for its renowned craft breweries.”

Sweetwater Brewing will hand over its Fort Collins taproom to Breckenridge Brewery but will continue operating its 12-acre brewing campus, restaurant, and taproom in Littleton, as well as a small brewpub in Breckenridge.

SweetWater Brewery’s Taproom in Colorado

Breckenridge Brewery’s “Culture Czar,” Todd Thibault, who has been with the company for nearly 30 years, noted, “After exploring various markets across the U.S., we’ve found that Colorado is where we truly belong.” Breckenridge is celebrated for its Avalanche Amber Ale, Juice Drop Hazy IPA, and Palisade Peach Wheat.

Though the switch from Sweetwater to Breckenridge is a recent development, Thibault assured that the brewery will retain all existing staff and brewers, with no need for a closure or major renovations. “If executed correctly, the transition will be seamless and happen overnight.”

The restaurant will continue to offer most of its current menu, with only minor adjustments, while the taproom will still serve a selection of Sweetwater, Alpine, and Green Flash beers brewed on-site.

Sweetwater Brewing, originally founded in Georgia in 1997, began operating at the Fort Collins location in 2021 to expand its presence in the western U.S. It took over the facility from Red Truck Brewing, a Canadian brewery that lasted only four years. Red Truck had previously acquired Fort Collins Brewing in 2017 at the same address.

Breckenridge Brewery, established in Breckenridge in 1990, relocated its headquarters to Denver before moving to its current Littleton campus in 2015. Shortly after, it was acquired by Anheuser Busch InBev, which sold it along with several other brands to Tilray in 2023.

Fort Collins is a celebrated hub of craft beer in Colorado, home to independently owned Odell Brewing, established in 1989, and New Belgium Brewing, known for Fat Tire, which began in 1991 and is now owned by Japanese conglomerate Kirin. The city also boasts over 22 other craft breweries and taprooms, including Funkwerks, Coopersmith’s, Horse & Dragon, Zwei, Purpose, and Hello Brew.

Thibault expressed enthusiasm about joining Fort Collins’ esteemed list of breweries, saying, “You could spend a month exploring all the breweries in Fort Collins. We’re thrilled to add Breckenridge’s name to this illustrious lineup.”

More About Breckenridge Brewing

Breckenridge Brewery, founded in 1990 in the historic mountain town of Breckenridge, Colorado, quickly established itself as one of the state’s pioneering craft breweries. Known for its Avalanche Amber Ale and other signature brews, the brewery captured the essence of Colorado’s vibrant beer culture. Over the years, Breckenridge Brewery expanded its reach, moving its headquarters to Denver before settling in its current location in Littleton in 2015. This relocation allowed for greater production capacity and a more extensive visitor experience, complete with a 12-acre brewing campus, restaurant, and taproom.

In 2023, Breckenridge Brewery entered a new phase under the ownership of Tilray, a global cannabis company. This transition marked another significant milestone in the brewery’s journey, as it joined a portfolio of other renowned beer brands such as Sweetwater, Green Flash Brewing, Alpine, and Blue Point. Despite these changes, Breckenridge Brewery has remained committed to its roots, continuing to produce high-quality craft beers that celebrate the spirit of Colorado. The brewery’s “Culture Czar,” Todd Thibault, who has been with the company for nearly 30 years, emphasizes that the core values and community focus of Breckenridge Brewery remain unchanged.

Breckenridge Brewery’s influence extends beyond its physical locations, contributing to the broader craft beer community in Colorado and beyond. The brewery is celebrated for its innovative beers, including the Juice Drop Hazy IPA and Palisade Peach Wheat, which have garnered a loyal following. As it prepares to enter the Fort Collins market in August 2024, Breckenridge Brewery aims to further cement its legacy within the state’s renowned craft beer scene. The move to Fort Collins, a city known for its rich brewing heritage and numerous craft breweries, represents an exciting opportunity for Breckenridge Brewery to connect with a new audience while continuing to honor its storied past.

The following comes via Untappd.

Breckenridge Brewing Company is a regional brewery from Littleton, CO. They are a Subsidiary of Tilray Brands. They have 931 unique beers and over 1.4 million ratings, with a global average rating of 3.62 (as of 7.29.24). Their Untappd description reads: “Breckenridge Brewery opened its doors in 1990 in the ski town of Breckenridge, Colorado. What started as a small brewpub has grown into a one of the largest breweries in the U.S. The original brewery still serves its craft beer and delicious pub fare at altitude. The production brewery outside of Denver sends beer to thirty-five states and offers tours, dining, and a welcoming Colorado beer garden experience. With a focus on balanced, approachable and interesting beer, the brewery’s portfolio contains classics like Vanilla Porter, Avalanche Amber Ale, Agave Wheat, 471 Double IPA, and Breck IPA, along with a variety of specialty beers that include seasonals, barrel-aged beers, the Brewery Lane Series, and a newly announced nitrogen-charged canned series. Mindful Brewing is Transforming into Chimera Brewing https://thebeerthrillers.com/2024/05/10/mindful-brewing-is-transforming-into-chimera-brewing/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=mindful-brewing-is-transforming-into-chimera-brewing Fri, 10 May 2024 14:45:38 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=15017

Mindful Brewing is rebranding as Chimera Brewing

Mindful Brewing is Rebranding as Chimera Brewing

Mindful Brewing is back… sort of. Its going to be back, and its going to now be called ‘Chimera Brewing’, with a rebranding, or a transformation if you will. We announced that they would be “temporarily closing” back on October 29th (announcing that their temporary closure would start on the 6th of November). (See here: Mindful Brewing Announces Temporary Closure.)

With new ownership and new leadership behind the brand, the transformation will begin with a new name – Chimera Brewing replacing Mindful Brewing. Currently the target is “late summer” for their re-opening. We will keep you updated with news as it gets close to their opening.

The Announcement

What’s up everyone! It’s the new owners here – your pals from Galley Group. Some of you might know us from Federal Galley in the North Shore or the newly re-opened Arthur’s Korner Pub in Mt. Lebanon. As you already know, there are some changes happening here at Mindful Brewing. We’re excited to introduce you to Chimera Brewing, a brand new brewery where our focus is on craft, cuisine, and community.
In the next few weeks, we’ll be re-branding Mindful Brewing to Chimera Brewing which means we’ve already started planning to (hopefully🤞) open for all of you come late summer. We have a lot of exciting things in store like a brewer apprenticeship program, brand new beers, and a fully re-vamped menu.
We know how important Mindful Brewing was to the South Hills community and promise to continue to provide a great atmosphere for your friends, family, and others alike.

YAH Brew Looking to Expand https://thebeerthrillers.com/2024/03/03/yah-brew-looking-to-expand/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=yah-brew-looking-to-expand Sun, 03 Mar 2024 21:40:31 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=14723 YAH Brew is Looking to Expand… but to where? Maybe Lancaster?

YAH Brew is Looking to Expand… but to where? Maybe Lancaster?

Its looking like YAH Brew is going to be expanding in the near future. All they’ve posted is this little ‘teaser’ or ‘hint’. A picture and a small blurb of text. It looks like it might be Lancaster where they are expanding to next. It makes some sense. Head brewer for YAH Brew – Justin – used to be the head brewer for Tattered Flag; Tattered Flag also had a location in Lancaster (their Barrel House – near the Grand Station); its a new location and a bit distant but still close to their main headquarters in Hershey and where they brew (Hummelstown), and Justin also has ties to the area having previously worked for Spring House and being from Mount Joy.

The Announcement

On this day a year ago we were excited to announce that we would be opening our downtown Hershey location.
Thanks to the support of all of you wonderful folks, the need for a more efficient production space became apparent rather quickly. We found a space to move the brewery and thought “We should probably add a taproom & kitchen here too”…
Stay tuned for a very exciting announcement 🍻

YAH BREW – Facebook Post

When more information is provided, we’ll either update or do a follow up article about their expansion plans.

Jackass Brewing Adding Williamsport Location in 2024 https://thebeerthrillers.com/2023/11/13/jackass-brewing-adding-williamsport-location-in-2024/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=jackass-brewing-adding-williamsport-location-in-2024 Mon, 13 Nov 2023 17:19:07 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=13085 Jackass Brewing Expanding to Williamsport

The Lewisburg brewery has teased and now announced that they will be adding a second location in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

The Northcentral PA group that first teased and showed the above picture, released a report that then Jackass Brewing corroborated and shows that they are indeed expanding into Williamsport. The Northcentral PA report can be found here: Northcentral PA Report – Williamsport.

The new brewery location will be at 301 W. Third Street in Williamsport. This puts them just seven minutes away from New Trail Brewing, and just two minutes away from Bullfrog Brewery.

Williamsport Pennsylvania is quickly becoming a brewery destination spot – with New Trail Brewing, Bullfrog Brewery, Boom City Brewing, Rosko’s Brewhouse, Riepistine’s Brewpub, Therapy Brewing, and now Jackass Brewery. Excluding Therapy Brewing – in nearby Montoursville – all of the other breweries are located in Williamsport and are within a total driving distance of 18 minutes (stopping at each spot). With Therapy Brewing added to the mix it comes out to 41 minutes. You can see a map of these breweries – including the new Jackass Brewery – here:

Jackass Brewing Company

Jackass Brewery opened in March of 2020. Started by home brewers Larry Winans and Skip Kratzer. They quickly became a popular destination spot in Lewisburg PA. Their spot in Lewisburg is a 7 BBL brewery.

The following comes from Untappd:

Jackass Brewing Company is a micro brewery from Lewisburg, PA. They have 97 unique beers and over 12,000 ratings for a global average rating of 3.7 (as of 11.13.23). Their Untappd description is blank.

Sobel’s Obscure Brewery

If you are from the Pittsburgh area – or are a fan of dad jokes – you might know of Sobel’s Obscure Brewery. They are currently a small micro brewery in the greater Pittsburgh area (Jeannette, Pennsylvania), and have their beers distributed in the area. (I had my first – and sadly still only – beer from them while at The Meadows Casino outside of Pittsburgh, PA.) They are well known on social media for their dad jokes (I’ll have a section about that later in the article).

But first, before we get into their grand opening and discuss it, let’s take a look at Sobel’s and the brewery itself.

According to Untappd; they are a micro brewery from Jeannette, Pennsylvania. They have 57 unique beers and 9,839 ratings, with a global average rating of 3.52 (as of 10.13.22). Their Untappd description reads: “Like many other brewers, we started out with a passion for drinking beer. Which grew into a passion for home-brewing and creating new, exciting, and oftentimes obscure recipes. Born out of our garage, we set out to create exciting new and different recipes. After gifting some brews to our friends and family, and being awarded at competitions, we decided to give it a try on the big stage! Founded officially in 2012, Sobel’s Obscure Brewery is a family endeavor run by David Sobel and his two children, Gordon and Jackie. Always ready for fun and laughter, we endeavored to create not only a great product, but a quirky brand that would spur consumers to try us and follow our progress! Get to know our beer gnomes! Keep on the lookout for the funny antics they get up to! Download our app (coming soon!) and play some games!

New Location. GRAND OPENING!

New Brewery Location

The following photos and videos are courtesy of their Facebook page – you can pop over there to see them, as well as the dad jokes, and much more from Sobel’s Obscure Brewery.

There is also a great video they have posted showing the love they have for their new brewery. You can tell that both Jackie and David love what they do and have fun working together as father and daughter:

If the video doesn’t work due to Facebook Watch issues (which is likely a thing, due to how Facebook and Facebook Watch works), you can go directly here:

Here is the YouTube version of it, and should hopefully work no matter what:

The new location will be a lovely new addition to Jeannette, Pennsylvania. It is a 18,000 square foot old building (built in 1904 – so over a hundred years old already); it was a former antique shop, hardware store, and department store. They will be primarily using the downstairs first floor for the brewery and their taproom, this will be 6,000 of its 18,000 square footprint.

Their bar will sit 15 guests at a time and they are having 20 taplines which they plan on keeping up to date at all times. As you can see from the above draft boards, they will be having 20 beers on tap at their grand opening.

Currently food trucks will be their go to for food at the venue. They are local minded and the food trucks will be from the area, as well as they will be letting local restaurants table deliver inside their brewery.

Thats not all of the renovations that they’ve done that has taken them so long and so much hard work. They have also purchased the building adjacent to their brewery which they tore down, and will be using as a huge outdoor patio. They are a bit of a ways yet from getting that off the ground – but its winter anyway, so look for it most likely in 2023.

And of course – most importantly – with a bigger building comes a bigger brewhouse! (The thing most of you readers are concerned, worried, and wondering about anyway!) With the new brewery, they’ve gone from a 1BBL system to a 7BBL system. This should help in keeping those 20 draft lines flowing at all times. (Well, all business hour times.)

Dad and Daughter Owned

Sobel’s Obscure Brewery is unique in that its owned and operated and brewed by a father and daughter duo / team. Jackie Sobel and her father David Sobel. If you’ve been following their social media, you are sure to have seen many of their dad jokes they have on their page. You can find some below:
