Stony Run Brew House

Stony Run Brew House is selling their brewery and business to a local brewery. No word yet on what brewery has purchased or bought them; just word that it is a “local brewery”.

Stony Run Brew House made the announcement today that they were selling their brewery and business, located at 3605 E Market St, York, PA 17402.

We previously posted word about a York area brewery trying to sell their shares, no word on if this is them. (Most likely based on size and volume it is not.) (See: Rumors and Round-Ups: Rumor Mill – 5.23.24)

Stony Run Brew House posted this to their Facebook page earlier:

Mindful Brewing is Transforming into Chimera Brewing https://thebeerthrillers.com/2024/05/10/mindful-brewing-is-transforming-into-chimera-brewing/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=mindful-brewing-is-transforming-into-chimera-brewing Fri, 10 May 2024 14:45:38 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=15017

Mindful Brewing is rebranding as Chimera Brewing

Mindful Brewing is Rebranding as Chimera Brewing

Mindful Brewing is back… sort of. Its going to be back, and its going to now be called ‘Chimera Brewing’, with a rebranding, or a transformation if you will. We announced that they would be “temporarily closing” back on October 29th (announcing that their temporary closure would start on the 6th of November). (See here: Mindful Brewing Announces Temporary Closure.)

With new ownership and new leadership behind the brand, the transformation will begin with a new name – Chimera Brewing replacing Mindful Brewing. Currently the target is “late summer” for their re-opening. We will keep you updated with news as it gets close to their opening.

The Announcement

What’s up everyone! It’s the new owners here – your pals from Galley Group. Some of you might know us from Federal Galley in the North Shore or the newly re-opened Arthur’s Korner Pub in Mt. Lebanon. As you already know, there are some changes happening here at Mindful Brewing. We’re excited to introduce you to Chimera Brewing, a brand new brewery where our focus is on craft, cuisine, and community.
In the next few weeks, we’ll be re-branding Mindful Brewing to Chimera Brewing which means we’ve already started planning to (hopefully🤞) open for all of you come late summer. We have a lot of exciting things in store like a brewer apprenticeship program, brand new beers, and a fully re-vamped menu.
We know how important Mindful Brewing was to the South Hills community and promise to continue to provide a great atmosphere for your friends, family, and others alike.

A New Owner Takes Over Olde Bedford Brewing Company https://thebeerthrillers.com/2024/01/01/a-new-owner-takes-over-olde-bedford-brewing-company/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=a-new-owner-takes-over-olde-bedford-brewing-company Mon, 01 Jan 2024 17:30:00 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=13464 Joe Black Takes Over Olde Bedford Brewing Company

Olde Bedford Brewing Company (OBBC) is now under new ownership with the start of the new year, as Dave (pictured above) and Mary Heller have passed on ownership of (OBBC) to long time Bedford resident Joseph Black.

We know Joe will do a fabulous job continuing the tradition of making great craft beer for Bedford and we look forward to the exciting things he has in store for the Brewery.

Dave Heller

Joseph Black, a long time resident of Bedford, and a partner of Olde Bedford Brewing Company started working with the Hellers as a partner in 2022. With the start of 2024, he has taken over full ownership of OBBC.

Olde Bedford Brewing Company is located at 109 Railroad Street (within Fat Jimmy’s Outfitters). They opened – by the Hellers – in spring of 2018 and was the first licensed brewery in Bedford County since the 1800s.

Over the past five years, OBBC has been the recipient of various state and local awards and recognitions. The most recognized was the presentation of the PA Farm Show PA Preferred Legacy Award in 2022.

The Heller’s also expressed their thanks to the greater Bedford community and businesses for their continued support, endorsements & collaborations.

“No greater thanks can be given to owners Jim and Percy Fungaroli of Fat Jimmys Outfitters, Don Brown of G&N Realty, Bedford County Development Association, Bedford County Chamber of Commerce of PA and Downtown Bedford, Inc., and all of our loyal customers. It is with the help of all these fine people and organizations that we were able to create a great third space for Bedford.” said Heller.

New owner takes over Olde Bedford Brewing – Bedford Gazette, December 26th, 2023

OBBC made the announcement via their social medias today, at 11:42 AM. Their announcement reads:

Joe Black has been active with Olde Bedford Brewing Company since 2020, becoming part owner in 2022. With great appreciation for the past, he looks forward to continuing to serve you in the future. He attributes the brewery’s success to an amazing team, amazing customers, and an amazing community. Thank you to everyone for the support. Happy New Year and Cheers to a great 2024! 🍻

Olde Bedford Brewing Company – Facebook Post

Olde Bedford Brewing Company

I got to visit OBBC in 2019 on a trip with my daughters, it was our last stop before heading home. We had a wonderful time, the staff was amazing, and the beers were very wonderful. You can read more about that here: The Trip: Day 3 Recap.

The following comes from Untappd. Olde Bedford Brewing Company is a micro brewery from Bedford, PA. They have 165 unique beers and over 8,400 ratings, with a global average rating of 3.76 (as of 1.1.24).

Their Untappd description reads: Nestled in the rolling hill country of central PA, lies the town of Bedford. Its beauty is only matched by its historical significance to our country. Among the trout streams, wildlife and farmland lies the Hideaway Ranch, the home of Olde Bedford Brewing. Our beers are crafted with spring water and often hops grown on our own Hideaway Ranch, in the mountains of Bedford County. As we create new brews, we will surprise your taste buds with unique and delicious flavors along with traditional brews we are sure you will love. We have been open for 5 years in Downtown Bedford, where we can embrace the History of “Olde Bedford” while making it close and convenient to the public.

Liquid Noise Brewing Company – New Ownership, New Beer, New Friends https://thebeerthrillers.com/2023/05/08/liquid-noise-brewing-company-new-ownership-new-beer-new-friends/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=liquid-noise-brewing-company-new-ownership-new-beer-new-friends Tue, 09 May 2023 00:45:32 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=11308 Liquid Noise Brewing Company – New Ownership

Looks like Liquid Noise Brewing Company is coming back. This time however with new ownership, new beer, and possibly (hopefully) new friends.

Back in March I was given good word (from a trusted person, who was closely attached to the original Liquid Noise Brewing Company) that Liquid Noise Brewing was coming back, but just couldn’t give any details or make an announcement.

But it looks like the cat is out of the bag now. Four hours ago (4:10 PM and 4:11 PM respectively) they changed their Facebook cover photo to a “Coming Soon” photo of their brewery exterior (the backdrop for the above picture, without the ‘new ownership, new beer, new friends’ tagline) and a new profile photo with the Liquid Noise Brewing logo with construction tape over it.

One hour ago they updated their cover photo again with the above photo.

No word yet on who the new ownership is, who the new brewer(s) is / are, and no word on who the new friends are.

We will keep everyone updated as we get more information. When we learn of anything – and can post it – we will.

Liquid Noise Brewing Company’s Closing

Penn Brewery’s Sale

Today on Facebook, Instagram, and other social media, the owners of Penn Brewery (in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) – Sandy Cindrich, Corey Little, and Linda Nyman; announced their sale and upcoming retirement. They announced the sale was to Stefan Nitsch. Stephan Nitsch is described in their post as a Pittsburgh based businessman and owner of Arkham Realty. Their post on their social media also announces their retirement after thirteen years of running the brewery.

Their post reads:

Big news! Penn Brewery’s owners – Sandy Cindrich, Corey Little, and Linda Nyman – are pleased to announce the sale of the company to Stefan Nitsch, Pittsburgh-based businessman and owner of Arkham Realty. After thirteen years helming the Brewery, Sandy, Linda, and Corey plan to retire.

Sandy noted, “In an era when so many small and mid-sized breweries are being bought up by large corporate entities, it was critical that as a ‘quintessentially Pittsburgh’ institution, Penn Brewery remain locally based and independently owned.”

Having spent his childhood in Austria and Switzerland, and his adulthood in Pittsburgh, Stefan says, “I’m a huge fan of Penn’s “Euro-Pittsburgh” branding and look forward to bringing it to the next generation of Penn consumers.”

Let’s raise a glass to Stefan! Stefan Wolfgang NitschArkham Realty and Property Management

Penn Brewery

(The following statistics comes from the Penn Brewery Untappd Page.) Penn Brewery is a micro brewery from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It has 163 unique beers with a global average rating of 3.48 and over 178 thousand ratings. Their Untappd description reads: Pittsburgh’s oldest and largest brewery, Penn is housed in the mid nineteenth-century landmark E&O Brewery Building in the North Side’s Deutschtown neighborhood, which was settled by German immigrants. Penn has been producing high-end craft beers since 1986, specializing in authentic, award-winning German-style beers brewed in the tradition of these immigrants, according to the strict quality standards of Reinheitsgebot. Our beers’ great taste comes from real German hops and two-row barley, with no added corn or rice fillers. Penn Brewery is proudly independently owned and operated.

From Wikipedia: Penn Brewery, also known as the Pennsylvania Brewing Company, is a brewery and restaurant in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was founded by Tom Pastorius in 1986, and is located at 800 Vinial Street in the Troy Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh, on the site of the former Eberhardt and Ober Brewery (founded in 1848).

2009 Closure

“On January 2, 2009, Birchmere ended beer production at the Vinial Street location and laid off 8 of the 10 brewery employees. All production was outsourced to the Lion Brewery in Wilkes-Barre, PA. The restaurant was scheduled to close February 28, 2009, but a last-minute agreement allowed it to remain at its current location for the next five years.

On August 19, 2009, Birchmere announced the indefinite closing of the Penn Brewery Restaurant.

Subsequent Re – Opening

On November 23, 2009, Penn Brewery issued a press announcement indicating that a small group of local investors, had acquired Penn Brewery from Birchmere Capital, under undisclosed terms, and that the original owner would be returning to lead a restart of brewing at the Vinial Street location, as well as an eventual reopening of the restaurant.[2]

On December 8, 2009, brewing officially resumed at the E & O facility, with the first mashing occurring at 10:20 AM. December 30, 2009 at 4:00 PM marked the first beer tasting of the new era of Penn Brewery.

On December 30, 2009 the Penn Brewery Restaurant opened for a “sneak peek” preview of the beers. Festivities were open to the public and the response was incredible.[3]

In February 2010 a new kegging line was installed, and on February 17, 2010, the first kegs of locally brewed Penn Brewery beer were released to wholesalers.

Pittsburgh

It’s good to see the brewery taking on new ownership and continuing to live on. With more and more breweries closing due to COVID and other issues (like the recently announced Newfangled Brew Works closing) its good to see older staples like Penn Brewery continuing to live on.

Amy and myself just came back from a trip that included Pittsburgh, but sadly we didn’t stop at Penn Brewery. In 2019 my daughters and I also had a road trip which included Pittsburgh, and we went by Penn Brewery but they were closed. Pittsburgh is a great city with a lot (read: a ton) of breweries, so if you are ever able to – make sure to get out there and check out the city and all the great breweries! You won’t be disappointed.

Thanks For Reading

Thank you all for reading. As I said in the article its great to see this long living brewery continue on. The building is a beautiful building and its a wonderful brewery with some fantastic beers, and is a staple of Troy Hill in Pittsburgh. So its so good to see them continue on and prosper. Likewise, hope the owners of Penn Brewery – Sandy Cindrich, Corey Little, and Linda Nyman – enjoy their retirement.

We have lots of articles popping up about our trip out to Cleveland, Canton, and Pittsburgh, so be sure to check those out. As well as lots of other things going on, like our ad agreement with MICET Group and lots of other fun beer reviews, brewery reviews, book reviews, and more. So please subscribe and follow.

Cheers and thanks all!
