Republican Rally at The Beerded Goat

Democratic U.S. Senator Bob Casey from Pennsylvania has called for a series of debates with his Republican opponent, David McCormick, in the lead-up to the November general election. McCormick has agreed to the proposal.

The upcoming Senate race in this key battleground state is expected to be one of the most expensive, with outcomes that could influence the balance of power in the Senate.

Casey proposed that the debates take place in the fall, with one debate each in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Harrisburg before the November 5 election. He cited Pennsylvania’s strong tradition of political debates as his reason for the proposal. McCormick, responding at a campaign event, expressed support for the debates as a valuable opportunity for the candidates to present their platforms to voters.

Both candidates had no competitors in their respective parties’ primaries this past Tuesday, setting the stage for a direct contest over the next six months.

The tradition of televised presidential debates has seen a decline, with their effectiveness as a platform for voter evaluation being questioned. However, the proposed three debates for the Pennsylvania Senate race would be the most significant since 2006 when Casey and then-GOP Senator Rick Santorum held four debates.

The likelihood of a debate in this year’s presidential race is iffy — and the time-honored tradition of televised debates as a forum for voters to evaluate candidates has declined in recent years.

Historically, debates have been less frequent in recent Pennsylvania Senate races, with only a few taking place close to election time. For instance, in the 2022 Senate race, Democratic nominee John Fetterman participated in just one debate while recovering from a severe stroke, which impaired his speech and auditory processing abilities. His Republican opponent, Dr. Mehmet Oz, had aggressively pressed for more debates, questioning the extent of Fetterman’s health issues.

Additionally, the 2022 Pennsylvania gubernatorial race saw no debates between Democrat Josh Shapiro and Republican Doug Mastriano. Mastriano opted out of a traditional media-moderated debate, instead hosting an event with a partisan moderator, a former Trump administration staffer, just two weeks before the election.

We are working on a massive project here at The Beer Thrillers. We are creating a map of all of the breweries across the United States. State by state we are adding maps of all of the different states with every brewery in each state. (We will eventually get to the US Territories, as well as the Canadian Provinces, and possibly more countries; as well as doing some fun maps like a map of all the breweries we’ve been to, and other fun maps.) You can find the brewery maps here:

We are also working on a project of creating printable and downloadable PDFs and resources to be able to check and keep track of all of the breweries you’ve been to. So stay tuned for that project once we are finished with the Brewery Maps of the US States.
