The craft beer scene is constantly evolving, and finding the latest, most exclusive brews can sometimes feel like a treasure hunt. That’s where Tavour comes in. If you’re a fan of rare, small-batch craft beer from all corners of the U.S., Tavour offers a solution that brings the hunt to your doorstep. Whether you’re a seasoned beer enthusiast or just starting your craft beer journey, Tavour is a must-know platform for discovering beers you won’t find at your local store.

What is Tavour?

Tavour

Tavour is an online craft beer delivery service that specializes in connecting beer lovers with limited-edition, hard-to-find brews from independent breweries across the country. Founded in 2013, Tavour partners with craft breweries—many of which produce small batches that are only available in specific regions. Their mission is simple: to make exceptional craft beer accessible to everyone, no matter where you live.

Tavour is an innovative craft beer delivery service that connects beer enthusiasts with unique and hard-to-find brews from independent breweries across the U.S. Founded in Seattle in 2013, Tavour allows customers to discover small-batch, limited-edition, and specialty beers that may not be available in their local market. The platform curates a wide variety of beers, from IPAs and stouts to sours and barrel-aged options, ensuring there’s something for every taste. Unlike traditional beer subscription boxes, Tavour gives users the freedom to hand-pick the beers they want, offering them the opportunity to explore diverse styles and flavors.

What sets Tavour apart is its emphasis on showcasing lesser-known craft breweries. The service partners with a rotating selection of breweries, giving small, independent beer makers a chance to reach a broader audience. Each beer featured on the app or website comes with detailed descriptions, tasting notes, and insights into the brewery that created it, giving customers a well-rounded understanding of what they’re purchasing. The app is designed to make the selection process easy, with new beers added daily, and users can create their own custom boxes by adding beers to their cart over time, only paying for shipping when they’re ready to receive their order.

Tavour is also highly regarded for its flexibility and transparency. There are no membership fees or monthly commitments—users simply pay for the beers they select. This makes it a popular choice for both casual beer drinkers and dedicated craft beer collectors. Whether someone is looking to try the latest release from a renowned brewery or discover a hidden gem from a small town, Tavour provides a seamless way to access exclusive beers that might otherwise be out of reach. Through its app-based platform, Tavour has created a unique community of beer lovers who can explore, share, and enjoy their passion for craft beer.

How Does Tavour Work?

Tavour operates through its app and website, allowing users to browse a constantly updated selection of unique beers. Here’s how it works:

  1. Sign Up for Free: Create a Tavour account (no subscription required) and get access to a handpicked selection of beers.
  2. Browse the Beers: Every day, Tavour introduces two new beers to their marketplace. You can read detailed descriptions, see brewery information, and even view tasting notes to help make your decision.
  3. Build Your Box: Add as many beers as you want to your “box.” Tavour doesn’t require minimum purchases—just add beers you’re excited to try. Your box ships when you decide, ensuring you get exactly what you want, when you want it.
  4. Pay as You Go: There are no monthly fees or hidden charges—just pay for the beers you select and shipping costs.
  5. Enjoy Your Craft Beer: Once your box is ready, Tavour ships your curated selection right to your door, delivering an unparalleled craft beer experience.

Why Tavour is Perfect for Craft Beer Enthusiasts

Tavour’s main draw is its impressive selection of craft beers from breweries that often fly under the radar. From barrel-aged stouts to hazy IPAs, each beer is carefully curated for quality and uniqueness. Here’s why craft beer lovers should consider Tavour:

  • Exclusive Access: Many of the beers on Tavour are difficult or impossible to find outside their local markets. If you’re chasing after rare releases, Tavour offers access to breweries that are typically only available regionally.
  • No Subscriptions: Unlike other services that lock you into monthly beer shipments, Tavour lets you buy only the beers you’re excited about. This flexibility is perfect for those who want control over their beer purchases.
  • Personalized Experience: Tavour allows users to choose exactly what they want to try. Whether you’re into sours, stouts, or lagers, you can pick and choose to build a box that perfectly matches your taste.
  • Detailed Beer Descriptions: Each beer on Tavour comes with tasting notes and detailed descriptions, helping users make informed decisions. Whether you’re new to craft beer or a seasoned aficionado, this helps you discover new styles and breweries.

6 of the Best Beer Apps for Your Smartphone

6 Best Beer Apps For Your Smartphone

One of the oldest beverages in the world, probably 13,000 years old, if not older, beer is still one of the most popular ones in this day and age. Many people had their first beers in college or experienced it at local breweries, and from there, their interest in beer grew.

Believe it or not, there are beer apps for your smartphones as well. This is where you can nourish your thirst for beer or even learn more about it in depth. In this article, we have listed 6 best beer apps for your smartphones!

Keep in mind, that most of these apps will only work if you’re residing in the US. They are available for free download on both Android and Apple phones, though some of these apps may require in-app purchases. You’ll get to know more when you navigate through these apps on your smartphone.

Before we go ahead, make sure you have an internet connection to stay connected to these beer apps. On that account, Xfinity offers good internet speeds at affordable rates and 24/7 support at the Xfinity customer service number. This will ensure that you keep using these beer apps.

6 of the Best Beer Apps

Check out these 6 best beer apps to download for your smartphone:

DigitalPour – Find Beer Near You

DigitalPour Dashboard

Are you familiar with seeing DigitalPour menus at your favorite bars, breweries, or growler shops? Now, you can check that from your smartphone!

Download the DigitalPour app and find out what the local DigitalPour-affiliated bar has on the menu. You can check out what’s on tap, what bottles and cans are available at the moment, and how much of a keg is priced.

You can even mark your favorite beverages across any of the DigitalPour locations by typing into the app search bar. This will help you to keep track of them.

Also through this app, you can check ABV percentages, bitterness rankings, and the keg type that is being served at the nearby local brewery!

Untappd – Local Breweries Near You

Untappd

This is one of the best and most versatile beer apps you can download on your smartphone. If you are curious about trying new beers, then this is the one for you.

You can earn badges for trying out different kinds of beers. Through Untappd, you can locate breweries near you, and different venues that you can attend with your friends. If you are a frequent traveler, you can definitely use this app to try different beer products.

What’s also fun about this app is that you can create a list of your favorite beers, and get alerts from Untappd when it is available in the local venues. Untapped is free to download, and very easy to use once you get used to the layout.

BJCP Styles – Promoting Beer Literacy

BJCP stands for Beer Judge Certification Program. If you ever want to look up a beer-Wikipedia, BJCP Styles has all the information you need.

It consists of all information on styles, rules, methods of making it, certifications, flavors, and not to forget, strengths of all types of beers This app can be used by a beer judge, home brewer, or simply a beer enthusiast!

Even those who are studying for their BJCP certification can take advantage of this useful app. The BJCP Styles app comes in handy every time because you can quickly look up the style description in this app.

Tavour – Online Home Delivery

Tavour

This app is like a food delivery app, except it’s for beers.

You can order beers right from the app for local or out-of-state delivery in the US. All you need to do is choose the beer that you want from a wide variety of options, select the number of beers you want, and have them delivered to your doorstep!

Do keep in mind that Tavour is dedicated to craft beer, and if that’s not what you’re looking for, then this isn’t the right app for you. However, you will definitely find some good craft beers on this app that you won’t find in other places.

Download the Tavour app for free, if craft beer is what you’re looking for.

iBeer – Beer Stimulator App

This app is all fun and games. It changes your smartphone into a drinking beer stimulator. That way, you can pretend to drink a beer from your phone. The stimulation in this app looks realistic, and to add to it, it has a naturally-looking bubble effect.

How it works is that you need to hold it sideways and tilt it up slowly, as if you’re tilting a glass to drink. As you keep drinking, the quantity of the beer being shown in your phone will lessen, and eventually empty out.

iBeer is the app to download when you’re having fun with a group of friends.

Brewee – Navigator App

Brewee is a navigator app, much like Google Maps, except that it helps to locate breweries near you!

Microbreweries grow like crazy, which is why you’re sure to find multiple and the best breweries near you. This app contains the largest database of breweries and can also help you connect with a community of other beer enthusiasts who share the same love for beer as you do.

You no longer have to be frustrated with irrelevant searches of the best beer places near you. Brewee will narrow them down for you by giving you relevant recommendations.

If you are looking for new breweries to enjoy with your friends, you can easily look up on Brewee!

Final Thoughts

The above-mentioned apps allow you to enjoy craft beer right from your smartphone, whether you’re looking it up, ordering one for yourself, or getting more information about the different types of beer. It’s amazing that with just a smartphone and the internet, the digital world is letting you have access to all the information you need about beers!

With so many different apps, there’s a whole world of beers to explore right from your smartphone!

Beer Review: Hop Bender (Local Craft Beer) https://thebeerthrillers.com/2023/08/21/beer-review-hop-bender-local-craft-beer/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=beer-review-hop-bender-local-craft-beer Mon, 21 Aug 2023 16:05:00 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=12278
Hop Bender by Local Craft Beer

Lets Do the Bender Hop

Its another Monday (groan), but ya’ll know what that means? Futurama! This week its episode six – Related to Items You’ve Viewed – an Amazon parody episode. I’ll get into the episode in a bit, but as you all know, every Monday I’ve been doing a “Futurama” themed beer, book, or other review (or article). Followed up by doing an episode video review when I get a chance. (I am slowly getting behind schedule on that, but keep your eyes peeled and locked on our YouTube channel page.)

Futurama Mondays

Thus far, these are the Futurama Monday articles:

Beer Review: Hop Bender by Local Craft Beer

Hop Bender by Local Craft Beer

Beer: Hop Bender
Brewery: Local Craft Beer (LCB)
Style: IPA – Triple New England / Hazy
ABV: 10%
IBU: 15
Untappd Description: This Beer is 40% Hops

Another excellent Tavour purchase that makes me wish I picked up more. But wooooo boy, at 10% you can’t be plugging too many of these away early in the day. I do enjoy the can art too. Turning Bender into a Fermenter is pretty cool, and fitting like we saw in “The Route of All Evil” episode.

Back of the Hop Bender can label

I enjoy the back of the can label as well, giving the description of the beer and how to preserve it. (Remember – always drink your hazies fresh!)

So enough about the can, lets get into this beer, lets crack it open and enjoy it.

Right away, on first crack and pour, you get hit with a rush of hop aroma. Like a Bender fist to the nose full of hop aromatics. This is super hop strong. Notes of pine resin, grapefruit, mango; all come flourishing through on the nose. Possible notes of pineapple and tangerine as well but its kinda muddied in there with all of the other hop aromas.

Appearance is your typical hazy IPA (not that there’s anything wrong with that – thats how its supposed to be). Nice golden hue, opaque, lovely pillowy foamy head, interspersed bubbles, nice lacing on the glass, golden wheat orange coloring. A beauty to behold.

And now its time to take our first sip…. and wow, this slaps hard – harder than Mom does! (Not my mom…. the Futurama Mom.) This is strong, but it is also so easy. This is far too smooth for a TIPA (Triple IPA) and far too smooth for a 10% beer. Kinda reminds me of Nimble Giant in that aspect – far too smooth and you can catch yourself drinking a few before realizing it. This is definitely in that category of “dangerous”. But in a good way (with modest self control). This is a very juicy, full hazy (T)IPA. Immediate notes of grapefruit, mango, pineapple, and tangerine. There is a medley of flavors all vying for your attention on first sip – in equal parts it seems – you get the mango, the pineapple, the tangerine, and the grapefruit. But as you drink it, you start to pick up some more notes and characteristics; like pine resin, earthy, and a bit of a forest floor to it as the hop notes really sink into you and take hold. “Bite my shiny metal ass” this is a damn good beer and I am really kicking my (shiny metal) ass wishing I had gotten more.

All in all a wonderful TIPA that lives up to its name. Thankfully this isn’t just some ‘bad’ beer with a pop culture / mainstream / nerd culture name slapped to it to make it sell. (Because lets be honest, a lot of craft breweries do this.) But this Bender-iffic beer absolutely nails it, and is a great drink. Just don’t expect to go all Zoidberg on this and drink it all up at once, or you’ll be snoring like The Professor in no time.

My Untappd Rating: ****
Global Untappd Rating: 4.06 (as of 8.21.23)

Related to Items You’ve Viewed

This might be the most (old school) Futurama episode of the season so far. On first watch, I didn’t really care for it, but on second and third watch, the episode completely grew on me and is probably my new favorite of the season. This and ‘How the West was 1010001’ episode are neck and neck.

I will go into much further and detailed analysis and review of this in the video review (that should be hopefully coming out soon).

Local Craft Beer

We are working on a massive project here at The Beer Thrillers. We are creating a map of all of the breweries across the United States. State by state we are adding maps of all of the different states with every brewery in each state. (We will eventually get to the US Territories, as well as the Canadian Provinces, and possibly more countries; as well as doing some fun maps like a map of all the breweries we’ve been to, and other fun maps.) You can find the brewery maps here:

We are also working on a project of creating printable and downloadable PDFs and resources to be able to check and keep track of all of the breweries you’ve been to. So stay tuned for that project once we are finished with the Brewery Maps of the US States.

Fing-Longer by Turning Point Beer

Futurama Monday

Ahh…. what if every Monday was Futurama Monday? …A man can dream…. a Man can Dream.

But, since I am already in my pajamas, and its 8:30 AM, lets just dive into it all shall we? No need to wait around. I’m 40% beer anyway.

And don’t worry about the video reviews of the episodes – they are coming. Started my new job, and with that means my schedule has changed / shifted a bit, so I’m going to be doing last week’s video essay review on Wednesday, and this week’s episode review on Thursday. So be sure to check out our YouTube channel page to stay updated and informed of those.

Futurama Monday Articles

Thus far, these are the Futurama Monday articles:

Beer Review: Fing-Longer by Turning Point Beer

Fing-Longer by Turning Point Beer

Beer: Fing-Longer
Brewery: Turning Point Beer
Style: Brown Ale – Other
ABV: 5.9%
IBU: N / A
Untappd Description: Brown Ale brewed with tons of Butterfinger candies.

Firstly, I’d love to say I enjoy the subtle can art. The Professor’s lab coat on his fing-longer invention is great. Its subtle, not much to the can, and doesn’t lean too hard into the “stealing the IP” category that some beers and beer can art do.

I do love brown ales, and I love Futurama, so this beer was one hundred and thirteen percent up my alley and had me getting it off Tavour right away. And I don’t regret that decision one bit. This was a fantastic beer.

Pours wonderfully and looks beautifully in the glass. It has a nice brown hue, with a good carbonated soft pillowy head. It left wonderful lacing on the glass. It looks exactly like what a brown ale should look like – simply put – it looks brown, it has good carbonation, good head retention, no sediment, not hazy but not completely translucent due to the coloring, a simple beautiful looking beer.

Aroma is whoooo boy, this is a fun one to sniff. Big notes of deep malt, you get the peanut butter, you get caramel malt, you get some chocolate notes, but the malt is very present in the aroma, and so is the peanut butter. I love it. This just smells incredible, I can’t wait to dive into it.

Oh this is bliss on first sip. I love it. Strong strong strong peanut butter, strong “chocolate bar” notes, strong deep malt taste. It’s almost like drinking a Butterfinger directly from a can (could this be a nod to Bart Simpson always shilling Butterfinger – Bart being another creation of Matt Groening?), and this is wonderful for it. This is a brown ale with a lot of dressing up, its got all the strong qualities you look for in a brown ale, malt, mouth feel, full, etc, with the added bonus of the tastes of chocolate, peanut butter, and even more malt with caramel malt. Its really just a great all around beer. Wish I had gotten a four pack of this rather than a single off of Tavour, but this is just an incredible beer all around. Firstly, I already love brown ales, then to tell me theres basically a Butterfinger melted into the beer, and then add on to it that its a Futurama themed beer, and you have me sold a thousand times over. Such a solid beer all around, if you are able to find this or get ahold of it – please do so, you won’t regret it.

Parasites Regained

I do love that Hulu puts the episodes on at midnight EST. So I got to catch the episode last night, and again this morning before finishing up the review here. Quick thoughts on the episode…. I didn’t hate it / didn’t love it. (Seems to be the theme of the Hulu run so far for me.) I think there was a fair bit of missed opportunities in this episode, and that also seems to be a running theme with the show during this “Hulu era”. Jokes are crammed in at times when they don’t need to be, or just don’t 100% stick the landing. I was a little disappointed that instead of a deeper episode like the original Parasites Lost, we got pretty much an extended Dune parody episode. Not to say there wasn’t funny gags and lines in it, or that it wasn’t a great story, but I kind of just was hoping for more out of this than what we got.

Some of Bender’s lines also felt somewhat crammed in, and I wonder why, if the writing was keeping Bender in limbo in case of DiMaggio not coming back or what. There’s also just a few bits here where I think they could have used him more, but they didn’t.

I do enjoy that once this Hulu season is over, it does look like there will be a consistent feel to each era. You will know a Fox era episode versus a movie era episode, versus a Comedy Central era episode, versus a Hulu era episode just from the “feel” of the episode – the look, the style, the jokes, etc.

Beer Review: Ghost In The Machine (Parish Brewing Co.) https://thebeerthrillers.com/2019/08/04/beer-review-ghost-in-the-machine-parish-brewing-co/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=beer-review-ghost-in-the-machine-parish-brewing-co Mon, 05 Aug 2019 03:01:36 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=326 When discussing the concept of whales in regards to beer, it usually refers to a brew that is so desirable that it becomes difficult to procure. Sometimes this is because of regional availability, or the brewery just doesn’t make enough of said beer — on purpose, or it is just that popular –, or in the case of some there is an entire day devoted to it (insert Dark Lord here). Pennsylvania does not yet see distribution from Parish Brewing Company, which means it’s a trip down to the great Bayou state, find a friend that can ship a few, or do what I did and purchase it from Tavour (more on this later).

The Brew

Beer: Ghost In The Machine
Brewery: Parish Brewing Company
Style: IPA – Imperial/Double
ABV: 8.5%
IBU: 100
Untappd Description: “Welcome to the future. Our collective human consciousness, or Ghost in the Machine, has gained a tolerance for hops beyond what mankind has ever known before. This Double India Pale Ale is the necessary outcome.”
Enjoy In: Teku or Harmony Tumbler
Enjoy At: 50-55 degrees Fahrenheit

The Review

Ghost In The Machine is one beer that I have been wanting and waiting to get my hands on since I found out about it. Hang around any beer circle long enough and eventually Parish of Ghost will pop up in conversation. Fortunately for me, Tavour was that beer nerd, and a notification showed up on my phone that bottles were available for purchase. Hot dang! Another Untappd wish list item can be crossed off.

Let’s start with the color, which for something that was bottled on 6/24/19 is actually quite amazing. Ghost In The Machine is classified as an Imperial/Double IPA, but is it really? According to Parish, GITM is a Double New England IPA (Double Hazy IPA for the West Coast), but that classification isn’t official…yet. Considering all of this, the pastel orange liquid cannot be seen through.

In terms of mouthfeel and taste, Ghost exhibits a soft, grapefruit forward bite that evolves into a dry, bitter finish. The bitterness is not excessive and compliments the fruit notes which are just prominent enough to make a second sip all but required. Per style, the tasting notes land it squarely in the Double IPA range, making this a good example.

I would like to point out that Ghost In The Machine is often compared to two other very heavy hitters: 3 Floyd’s “Zombie Dust”, and Toppling Goliath’s Pseudo Sue. In truth this is not a fair comparison and it has nothing to do with bias or the breweries. What it actually comes down to is style. Zombie Dust and Pseudo Sue are both Pale Ales, while Ghost is an Imperial/Double IPA.

Did I like Ghost In The Machine? Yes. GITM is a very solid beer and punches well within the Double IPA group. Would I recommend this beer? Yes, but not to everyone. This will satisfy the beer drinker looking for an IPA that offers more citrus up front, a little sweetness and has a bit more weight to its body.

My Untappd Score: ****-1/2
Global Rating: 4.29 (as of 8/4/19)

PROST!

J.Doncevic

(Post script: Fellow writer B.Kline on The Beer Thrillers also just reviewed [on 8.22.19] Ghost in the Machine by Parish Brewing Co., the review by B.Kline can be found here: B. Kline’s Ghost in the Machine Review.)
