LAKEFRONT RELEASES LATEST BREWERS’ RESERVE: IMPERIAL PUMPKIN ALE.

Lakefront Brewery will release its latest, limited, Brewers’ Reserve beer, 7-Year Barrel-Aged Imperial Pumpkin Ale on Friday, September 27^th from 11am to 9pm.

Lakefront Brewery is constantly “squirreling-away” barrel-aged beer. Just over 7-years ago, a few Imperial Pumpkin brandy barrels were filled and forgotten about in their barrel room. Recently, they were brought out and packaged into 12oz cans. On Friday, September 27^th, they’ll be made for sale exclusively at the Brewery’s Beer Hall.

“This will be the 10^th limited release Brewers’ Reserve beer that we’ve packaged,” said Lakefront Brewery President, Russ Klisch. “This batch is packed with flavor, while also being one of the first to feature water used from our brand new deaeration system.”

7-Year Barrel-Aged Imperial Pumpkin Brewers’ Reserve is available at Lakefront Brewery Beer Hall only. The sale begins on September 27^th at 11am (opening), and is first come, first served. You must choose the release day (September 27) to find the beer, purchase, and arrange your pickup time.

This small-batched Imperial Pumpkin Ale sports an 8.5% ABV and was packaged just a couple weeks ago.

LAKEFRONT BREWERY INCHES TOWARD AUTUMN WITH THEIR 4TH ANNUAL FALL FEST OF ALE

Lakefront announces their annual celebration of the fall season with a variety of offerings for all ages.

The local brewery continues to utilize their outdoor space and renovated patio to welcome in the community for special events. For several years now, Lakefront’s Fall Fest of Ale has functioned as one of their premiere yearly events. On Sunday, October 6^th from 11AM to 3PM, over 30 local vendors will be showcasing their work alongside 6 food trucks including Lakefront’s CurdWagon that will feature an all gluten-free, fall-themed menu.

It wouldn’t be a proper Lakefront event without drinks. Not only will they be serving up their award-winning beer, but they will also serve 3 fall-themed cask-conditioned brews, Bloody Marys, specialty coffee, and hot apple cider. An exclusive Fall Fest of Ale souvenir tasting glass will be available for purchase so you can enjoy a wide variety of $2 beer samples at all their service stations.

Guests can enjoy live music from Pete McDermott of Ladybird, a 50/50 raffle benefiting Riverwest Elementary’s new playground renovation (Fund the Fun!), your favorite Lakefront Brewery clearance sale, sweet treats like caramel apples, apple cider beignets, pumpkin beer bread pudding, walking cake sundaes, and specialty Thanksgiving dinner-themed cheese curds! New at this festival, Lakefront notes that they will have a station specific for cheese curds to get as many of their famous curds into your hands as possible. Kids (and pets) can create a hand (or paw) painted print, put on a glitter tattoo, or grab a Golden Maple Root Beer made with real maple syrup!

Lakefront is also pairing this event with a nonperishable food drive organized by Barley’s Angels benefitting local Riverwest Food Pantry, Kinship. Food items are not required for attendance, this is a free event welcome to all.

It’s Pumpkin Time!

So…. a couple leaves have changed color on the tree in our front yard.  So…. it’s technically not too early, right?  I can talk about pumpkin spice now?  They were the first ones I saw in the store and I had to grab a couple for me and Grandma SueAnn to enjoy.   (See: A Beer Review by Grandma SueAnn [Beer Review: Braaaiins! by Spring House Brewing Company].)

We were shopping at the local Weiss and I saw it on an end-cap and I had to have it.  Braaaiins by Spring House Brewing Company.  I grabbed the 4pack with the approving nod from the boyfriend.  I could hardly wait long enough for them to chill.  Grandma SueAnn was in agreement; kicking our pumpkin beer drinking season off with a loved classic was the way to go. The first pumpkin beer of the year, near end of August, and I had to grab it!

Braaaiins! by Spring House Brewing

Once chilled this pumpkin ale is the perfect beer to kick off Autumn with.  It is described on Untapped as “our pumpkin ale is brewed with generous amounts of real pumpkin blended into the mash.  The subtle fresh pumpkin flavor is enhanced by the addition of a touch of traditional autumn spices and sweet dough, thus creating a beer with an orange amber color, warm pumpkin aroma, a bold malt center and a crisp finish.  We are proud to offer you a balanced and delectable fall treat.  Suitable for zombies.”  It has an 8.5% ABV so I isn’t anything to mess around with.  It has an overall rating on Untapped of 3.70.

Zombies are People Too by New Trail Brewing

On another occasion we swung into West Connection Beer Vault in Hummelstown (find West Connection Beer Vault on Facebook).  Amongst the mix of six we picked out were two from New Trail Brewing. (We also scored a fantastic Barleywine by 3 Floyds Brewing – Pillar of Beasts. See Ben’s beer review of that here: Beer Review: Pillar of Beasts by 3 Floyds Brewing.)

Zombies Are People Too and Double Zombies, two pumpkin beers from the mid – Central PA brewery up in Williamsport. They clock in at a 5.7%ABV and an 8.5% ABV respectively. My first instinct was to see if Grandma SueAnn could tell the difference between the two New Trail pumpkin beers. (Because who better to try out new pumpkin beers with than Grandma SueAnn?) Yes, the Double Zombies has a higher ABV but Double Zombies is also supposed to be packed with, according to Untapped “twice the strength, maple syrup, vanilla, and pumpkin spice.”  Grandma SueAnn thought she tasted just a bit more spice to Double Zombies but she happily helped me drink both pumpkin beers.

Overall though we enjoyed both of the New Trail pumpkin options. In the mid-state (Harrisburg area) you can find them at your different beer distributors and bottle shops like Breski’s Beverages, West Connection Beer Vault, Brass Rail, Bradford Village Beer and Soda, as well as at your grocery stores like Wegmans, Weiss, and Giant. You might even be able to find them in some gas stations like Rutters, WaWa, or Sheetz. So be on the lookout and the hunt!

Pumpkin Patch Noir – a Chocolate Pumpkin Stout

Pumpkin Patch Noir

Introducing Pumpkin Patch Noir, a dark, decadent creation that brings together the cozy essence of autumn and the rich complexity of a stout. This beer is an ode to chilly nights spent by the fire, wrapped in warm blankets, and the scent of spices lingering in the air.

Appearance: Pouring a deep, velvety black with a creamy tan head, Pumpkin Patch Noir is as visually striking as it is delicious. The head slowly dissipates, leaving behind a delicate lacing that clings to the glass, hinting at the full-bodied experience that awaits.

Aroma: As you bring the glass to your nose, the first thing you’ll notice is a blend of chocolate and roasted malts, mingling with the unmistakable scent of pumpkin pie spices. Cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and a touch of clove rise from the glass, evoking memories of freshly baked pumpkin treats.

Flavor: The first sip is an indulgent journey. The stout’s rich, roasted malt backbone provides a smooth canvas for layers of dark chocolate and cocoa, followed by the subtle sweetness of real pumpkin. The spices are perfectly balanced, adding warmth without overwhelming the palate. As the flavors develop, a hint of vanilla emerges, rounding out the taste and leaving a lingering, pleasant sweetness.

The Recipe

Within five minutes of arriving at Grandma SueAnn’s house; she smiled and asked if I was ready for pumpkin beer?!

Does a bear sh1t in the woods?  Hell, yes, I want a pumpkin beer!  I almost launched the food and small baby spoon I was using to feed Scarlet with at my Mom’s head.  Instead, I just smiled at her like the wild-eyed maniac that motherhood has turned me into.  She was talking about diving back into the pumpkin beer haul from last Sunday.

(Last week Amy got to spend time with her mom – Grandma SueAnn – and they dived into the first part of their pumpkin beer haul: Pumpkin Beer Review with Grandma SueAnn – Abomination Brewing: Forbidden Pumpkin, Greater Good Brewing: Giant Pumpkin, and Pizza Boy Brewing: Sunny Side Up Double Coffee Pumpkin.)

Diving Back Into the Pumpkin Haul

I let Grandma SueAnn pick the glassware, so go ahead and peep on the cute bear glass.  If you think that is silly just wait until we get to beer #2.  Her pick was the Nightmare on East Elm Street, a pumpkin/yam beer, by Conshohoken Brewing Company.  This is a 6.66% ABV…wait a sec, was that done on purpose?  I see what you did there. 

NEES has an overall untapped rating of 3.64. It is described as “A seasonal homage to our original brewery in Conshohocken, we bring you Nightmare on East Elm Street Pumpkin Ale.  Brewed with honey malt, pumpkin puree, lactose and spices.  Nightmare on East Elm Street is pumpkin pie in a glass.  This autumn ale is best paired with candy corn.”  We both thought that the pumpkin flavor was pretty light and finished as a pilsner.  A few on Untapped agree.  Maybe one of the other flavors mellowed out the pumpkin flavor?  It was a great light beer and went down very smoothly. 

Something Something Pumpkin

Without hesitation Grandmas SueAnn is popping up to pick out the second beer.  Again, I let her pick.  It’s fun to watch her read about the beers and get to know which ones she likes and which ones she doesn’t.  I love that I get to split beers with my mom, watch my daughter play and watch football at the same time. 

That first beer was only a 6.66% ABV but Grandma SueAnn is posing the bears with the beer.  I told you to watch out for the pic of beer #2.  Aren’t they cute? She picked the Something pumpkin by Eight and Sand.  This is a pumpkin/yam beer coming in at 6%.  It is described as “Our pumpkin cream ale treats your taste buds to notes of pumpkin pie crust, warm cinnamon, smooth vanilla, and autumn spices.”  SP has an overall rating on 3.90 on Untapped.

We both agreed Something Pumpkin is nice and light but filled with flavor at the same time.  It has a sweet flavor but not the overly sweet some cream ales can have.  Maybe it should have been classified as a cream ale and not a pumpkin/yam beer.

Some of us pumpkin lovers don’t settle for subtle fall flavors.

Only the best pumpkin, only the most truest of pumpkin flavors for us.

I know you will never believe this, but Grandma SueAnn turned me down to split the 3^rd and final beer of the pumpkin beer stash.  She seemed sleepy as Scarlet was keeping her on her toes.  Don’t worry, we will add more seasonal beers to the stash.

My offering of an afternoon of pumpkin beer was met with a quick yes when I texted Grandma SueAnn last night.  I mean, we knew I wasn’t twisting her arm. 

(We had a busy morning – went to Bill’s for breakfast, then we ran out to Memorial Lake and Levitz Park to look around, and found ourselves stopping at Bradford Village Beer and Soda – originally looking for Ever Grain Brewing Company’s Sorbetto #66, but not finding it – Ben made this mix – a – six of pumpkin beers for Amy and SueAnn.)

Sunny Side Up Double Coffee Pumpkin by Pizza Boy

After going on a beer run we started the afternoon off with Pizza Boy’s Sunny Side UP Pumpkin double coffee stout.  The Pumpkin SSU comes in at 11.9% ABV and it is described on Untapped as an Imperial double stout.  It has an overall untapped rating of 3.97.  Ah Yes, the double coffee stout we know and love.  The coffee might be overpowering the pumpkin.  Even rocking at a 11.9 this stout didn’t taste boozy.  It kept us warm on a chilly and windy Sunday in October.  This one didn’t take long for Grandma SueAnn and I to share out of the vintage smurf glass.  This also reminds me, we need another pizza boy trip. 

I had to run out for a quick errand.  Grandma SueAnn couldn’t wait and was already knuckle deep in the Giant Pumpkin from Greater Good. She finally got her granddaughter to take a nap and was celebrating apparently.  This would explain the not quite full beer pic.

Giant Pumpkin by Greater Good Brewing

The Giant Pumpkin is described as a pumpkin/yam beer and comes in at a 8% ABV.  It is described on Untapped as “Sweet notes of creamy pumpkin pie, supplemented by hints of sugar and spice, across a clean and crisp 8% ale.’  The hints of sugar and spice definitely contained some cinnamon, that was the leading flavor we both had.   It has an overall Untapped rating of 3.84.

The third beer for the afternoon was the Forbidden pumpkin by Abomination Brewing Company, an imperial Milkshake style india pale ale.  This Imperial comes in with a 9.3% ABV and has an overall 4.06 rating on Untapped.  “Forbidden pumpkins is an Imperial Pumpkin milkshake IPA that clocks in at 9.3% brewed with malted oats and flaked wheat, double dry hopped with Citra and Mosaic then fermented atop a monstrous amount of pumpkins, vanilla beans, pumpkin spice and milk sugar.  This hazy IPA pairs perfectly with hoodies, fall hikes and nights out by the fire pit with friends!” 

This was the Grandma SueAnn Favorite of the day.  We both agreed this brew was light and creamy.  The fall flavors were not overpowering and this was sweet but just enough to entice you for another sip. 

And That Was the Day

Splitting 3 beers and the afternoon was gone.  Grandma SueAnn reminded me since we split them, it’s only 1.5 and that isn’t much.  Although I couldn’t get Grandma SueAnn to promise if she’d wait to crack open the last 3 when I was back.  I gave it a couple minutes thought contemplating if the beers were safe in her fridge.  I figure we have about a 50/50 shot.

This was a wonderful fall afternoon spent drinking beers with my mom, while Scarlet terrorized her living room and we watched some football!

I was feeling in the mood to split a beer or two, maybe three with Grandma SueAnn.  Yesterday she kicked butt. Cumulative fundraising of $800 for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s on City Island and also volunteering at the walk event.  It was definitely some time to celebrate.

Zoktoberfest by KCBC – Kings County Brewers Collective

We started off with the Zoktoberfest by KCBC.  I am going to be honest, it is because of my driving.  When I showed up to Grandma SueAnn’s house, the Devious Imperial Pumpkin  had escaped the bag I was totting along.  I was still scared enough that I held it over the sink when I opened it!

The Zoktoberfest comes in with a 5.4% ABV and it has an overall untapped rating of 3.75.  It is described as “Smooth, bready malt character, with Clean earthy bitterness. Finishes crisp and dry. Crushable.  Brewed with 100% German malt and hops.  Worthy of your best lederhosen and your finest stein.”

This doesn’t feel like our typical marzen.  Grandma SueAnn and I tasted more of the bready malty flavors but then very crisp and light caramel.  Untapped has a few confused check ins too.

And that is exactly how I’d describe it “Bit thin flavored” The flavors are all there but they are subtle and do nothing to excite me.  Grandma SueAnn concluded “It was just ok.” 

Devious Imperial Pumpkin by Fegley Brew Works

After some laundry checks and dogs walked it was time for the next beer.  I think I was scared of the Devious Imperial Pumpkin by Fegley’s Brew Works. 

Devious Imperial Pumpkin (DIP) comes in at a 9% ABV and an overall untapped rating of 3.77.  It is described as “Amber-hued and expertly brewed with real pumpkin, pale, Munich and caramel malts, this ale pours a frothy dark ruby color with enchanting aromas of pumpkin pie, spiced cookies and nutmeg.  A harmonious blend of ginger, cinnamon, clove and allspice balances natural pumpkin sweetness, revealing rich undertones of toffee, squash and clove.  Finished with unique notes of spiced pumping seeds and blood orange marmalade, this full bodied ale offers a sophisticated and delightful taste of the season, crafted with unmated passion and quality.”

Ah yes, we love a good pumpkin beer.  Not sweet and not too spicy.  Grandma SueAnn describes it as a beer you don’t even have to think about.  You just drink it and enjoy it.  You know what?  She is right.  It was so easy to just enjoy this well balanced pumpkin beer on a chilly fall day.

Post – Script

Ben jumping on here. Just want to say that Amy did an absolutely amazing job this weekend of helping Francis organize, run, and execute the Walk to End ALZ event on City Island at FNB Field in Harrisburg, PA yesterday. She absolutely puts her everything into it and always does such an amazing job. You can tell that she really cares hard about the quality and work that she does, and that she really cares about the cause.

Grandma SueAnn is no exception to that as well. She helped raise a lot of money for “Team Grandma Squared” and in honor of her mother.

It was also Grandma SueAnne’s 69th birthday on Friday night. After I got off work, we went over to Official BBQ and Brewpub in back of Rutherford (on Lyter Lane). Absolutely fantastic BBQ, and good brews as well. Micah and Aaron Delp do an amazing job there. If you check out our Instagram page you’ll soon see pics of our dinner at Official BBQ as well as pics from the Walk to End ALZ event.

After already dipping my tongue in Master of Pumpkins by Troeg’s I felt the urge to grab just a few more seasonal beers. Especially to split a few with my Mom (Grandma SueAnn). 

I couldn’t resist grabbing Braaaiins! Pumpkin Ale for Zombies by Springhouse.  This tasty seasonal treat comes in at 8.5% ABV and an overall untapped rating of 3.70. 

It is described on untapped as “Our pumpkin ale is brewed with generous amounts of real pumpkin blended into the mash.  The subtle fresh pumpkin flavor is enhanced by the addition of a touch of traditional autumn spices and sweet dough, thus creating a beer with an orange amber color, warm pumpkin aroma, a bold malt center and a crisp finish.  We are proud to offer you a balanced and delectable fall treat.  Suitable for zombies.”

Grandma Sueann loves that fact that I write for a beer blog.  This means beer needs to be tasted and consumed, and she is all in with that idea! It felt like it was time for a few of the pumpkin or marzen beers.  After Scarlet drifted off for her afternoon nap I quickly showed off the pumpkin surprise to Grandma Sueann.

In between splitting this beer my laundry needed tossed over to the dryer.  Because my washing machine is dead and there is always something to fix, vent over. Somehow a good bit of the “split” was consumed before I made it back from the laundry switching. 

Grandma SueAnn quickly tells me her thoughts on the beer.  Apparently, I was getting a review whether I liked it or not.  She described Braaaiins! as more caramelly and sweet than she was expecting.  Not as much pumpkin flavor either.  She still finished this beer out and would absolutely enjoy it again!

I’d definitely agree with that description, Braaaiins! is definitely a lighter pumpkin beer.  Grandma SueAnn wanted to know the ABV.  When I replied with 8.5% she grinned and said “nice!”

(Ben interjection moment here: Braaaiins! by Spring House Brewing Company was one of the earliest “different” craft beers I recall really having back in 2010. Would always grab a bomber bottle of it for Thanksgiving to have with our dinners while the older generations had their wine, I would have this. It was always one of my favorite pumpkin beers to look forward to each fall, and was always a highlight of the Pumpkin Wars event at Funck’s in Palmyra.)

Add it to Your List

Definitely put this pumpkin beer on your list! If you are making a “pumpkin beers” list to try, this one should be high up on that list. As far as fall beers go, make sure you add some of the great local Oktoberfest beers as well – Pigtoberfest by Boneshire Brew Works, Oh My Gourd by Ever Grain Brewing, Oktoberfest by Troegs Independent Brewing, and many more local greats.

(Amy was spoiled this weekend. She got to visit YAH Brew and Tattered Flag Brewery after Ben got off work on Friday; then on Saturday after he got off work she got to go to Boneshire Brew Works for the end of their Pigtoberfest, and then today she got to meet up with a friend at Ever Grain Brewing Company. Not a bad weekend at all for Amy. If you follow our Instagram – you would get to see some of our pics from these fantastic breweries.)

So tonight’s post won’t be your typical beer review. This will be a double beer review, and even though I’ve done a few of them in the past, this is a bit different than that. I’ve done a couple of multiple beer reviews in the past (typically flights at a brewery), and I’ve done two other articles that were dual (two) beer reviews. They were: Fresh Fest and Trail Day Pale Ale (by Troegs Brewing) and Pineapple Kolsch (Desperate Times) and Dry Irish Stout (Riverbend Hop Farm and Brewing). (Riverbend Hop Farm and Brewery just recently closed their doors which makes that review interesting in hindsight, you can read about their closing here – Riverbend Hop Farm and Brewery Announces Closing.)

Today’s double review comes from Maxie’s Brewhouse in Shippensburg. Its two different breweries / brewers that I’m reviewing (Ship Faced Brewing and Janky Brew Co). Maxie’s Brewhouse is kind of interesting. Its like an agglomeration of home brewers that rotate on their tap list and you can order. A friend of mine – Matt Kauffman – who ran the beer blog TBC (Tribeeratops Beer Club), which was a blog for him and a bunch of his friends, and he began homebrewing and turned it into TBC – Tribeeratops Brewing Company.

When we stopped in, they had a sheet of their draft specials. I’m not sure what their full menu was, or how many different beers or brewers were on tap, but on the sheet they had a 4$ beer from Olde Bedford, a 4$ hard cider, and then some 3$ draft specials from Ship Faced Brewing and Janky Beer Co. I had messaged Matt on my way in, and he told me he no longer brews for them. So I’m not sure what all else they had on tap, but these were the ones they did have on tap for certain. Their Facebook page showed a flight with different beers than I saw on their draft special sheet, so they must’ve had a pretty good variety of beers on draft but I just didn’t see a menu list of them anywhere. Yesterday, I had hiked the Pine Grove Furnace State Park and did Pole Steeple with my dog Leela. Today me and my friend Ming hiked Sunset Rocks and some of the Appalachian Trail and did some of Camp Michaux and the walking tour of it; which is all in Gardners Pennsylvania. Shippensburg was about a fifteen – twenty minute drive from the hike, and I hadn’t been to Maxie’s yet to get to try some of these new brewers, so we hopped over there for our lunch / beers.

On the Sunset Rocks / Appalachian Trail hike my hiking beers for the day were – Green Machine by Boneshire Brew Works and Animal I’ve Become by Ever Grain. Both fridge pulls that were of IPAs that are starting to get up in age (canning for this Green Machine was a bit ago), but both still held up very well and were excellent trail beers.

It was a very nice hike, we did about 5 some miles of hiking counting the Camp Michaux walking tour and CCC / POW camp that we walked through, as well as the Appalachian Trail we walked through. The Sunset Rocks overlook view was very pretty, even with the cloudy weather. Temperature wise it was great, hot and sweating when we were hiking, but not too cold or too warm when we were standing still.

I’ll post some pictures of the overlook view, Appalachian Trail, and Camp Michaux at the end of the article if you want to see them. I also have some links for more information about Camp Michaux at the end as well (mainly, because I knew nothing about this camp before we hiked the area, so hopefully this will be informative for other people as well).

But in the meantime, let’s get to the two beers and review them.

First up….. Hazy Burd.

Ship Faced Brewing is listed on Untappd as a nano brewery from Shippensburg, and has 13 unique beers, 199 total ratings and an average rating of 3.76.

This is a bright yellow to golden New England style hazy IPA. Thin white head to it but with nice bubbles and left nice lacing on the glass. Its hazy and opaque with some sediment and floaters. Its light looking and a bit watery looking.

Aroma is pretty hoppy, floral and citrus. No earthy or grassy or pine hop notes. Some creaminess or vanilla aroma but very mild. Mostly floral or citrus hop notes, some peach, mango, maybe faint grapefruit aroma.

This is a pretty solid and standard New England IPA. There’s not a whole extreme lot to discuss, but it is a solid beer. Its a bit watery, a bit papery thin in mouthfeel, but it has good flavor. Its smooth and has either lactose, vanilla, or a lot of flaked oats to give it a smooth / silky taste and slickness to it. Its easy drinking and pretty crushable. No hop bite, no real IPA bitterness, just the juiciness that comes from a New England IPA. Hop flavors are peach, mango, light grapefruit, perhaps a bit of melon rind, no earthy, no zest or citrus, no grassy or pine or bitterness. I can’t say anything bad about this beer, its good, clean, juicy, tastes great, has a little bit of sediment, a little watery and thin, but nothing bad, no off flavors, no bad aftertaste, nothing you’re burping up hours later. This is a perfectly fine and delicious beer.

Next up is…. Pin-Up Girl Basic Witch.

Style: Blonde Ale
ABV: 4.5%

Untappd Description: Brewed with local coffee and has a dash of pumpkin spice with Tahitian vanilla bean

Janky Beer Co on Untappd is listed as a Contract Brewer through Shippensburg Pennsylvania. With 45 unique beers, 895 ratings, and an average global rating of 3.92. Their Untappd description reads: A one off one of a kind brewery working in Maxie’s Brew Pub.

This was an interesting beer. It looks and doesn’t look like a blonde ale, and doesn’t taste much like one at all. (None of these things are negatives, just statements.) It more reminds me of a pumpkin beer or yam beer than a blonde ale, especially the tastes. The appearance is a hazy, darker blonde ale than normal, with more of a darker golden orange coloring than a lighter yellow to golden look.

Aroma is one hundred and ten percent spice beer, like any pumpkin beer, the spices are overwhelming and all you smell. I couldn’t even smell coffee on this or any distinguishable characteristic of a blonde ale, but got lots and lots of spices. Nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, and probably some other spices I’m not really able to distinguish. I don’t think its ‘too much’ but it is a bit overpowering, and I would go as far as saying its definitely more than a ‘dash’ of the spices.

This is an interesting and tasty beer. I got very little coffee but the spices are very overpowering on this. There might be coffee that intermingles and makes the taste of the spices jump out more, but what you take notice upfront and right away is the spices. They really leap out and tackle your tastebuds. This has a stronger and heavier mouthfeel than the New England IPA earlier (Hazy Burd), but its still somewhat light being only a 4.5% blonde ale. Its smooth to drink and has a nice slick, smooth, creaminess most likely from the Tahitian Vanilla Beans, but you don’t really taste the vanilla. This isn’t boozy or heavy, but it also feels heavy, mostly I think because it has a good mouthfeel and the spices, so its more of a sipping beer than one to drink quickly, and I certainly wouldn’t drink a four pack or anything of this at one sitting due to the spices being a bit overbearing. This was an enjoyable beer, a bit overhanded on the spices, (I was burping the taste of this beer for a few hours afterwards), but still a good, well crafted beer that I’d get again.

Overall both beers were enjoyable. I wish I would have asked about what their full menu was and maybe did a flight or something, got to try more than just the two, but for 6$ the two drafts were not bad. Ming got cheesesteak egg rolls for 8$ and we shared fries for 3$, so not a bad bit of food and drink for relatively low price. (They might want to do a better job of saying what all beers they have than just that special list, maybe it was on a different part of the QR code, not sure.)

If again in Shippensburg, I’ll make sure to stop in. When we were there at 3:30-4, it was empty (we were the only ones in until a couple came in right before we left). They were doing live music in the evening though so I’m sure it would pick up.
