And Then There Was Four

And so we continue on in the treacherous gladiatorial pits of the Battle of the Beers. Broken beer bottles, smashed beer cans, crumpled kegs, dented crowlers, and bottle openers turned shivs lay everywhere. The best of the hops, barley, and malts are being eyed up by our remaining four gladiators.

The dust is beginning to settle, and four victorious beers and breweries have emerged, leaving the crumpled husks of their defeated opponents laying behind them. As we move onto the final four, let’s see who we lost from this past round.

The Defeated

These four competitors put up a hard fight, making it to the round of the Elite Eight, but sadly coming up short and unable to continue on to the Final Four:

• Rotunda Brewing Company – Annville IPA
• Tattered Flag – TMI PA
• Lawson’s Finest Liquids – Sip of Sunshine
• Rubber Soul Brewing Company – Dropout

The Victorious

So who does that leave us with in the Final Four? These hardened, grizzled, toughened veterans of the beer and brewery gladiator pits:

Lets get down to it and see how the Round of 8 played out:

• (1) The Alchemist – Heady Topper (with 37 votes) defeated (14) Rotunda Brewing Company – Annville IPA (with 21 votes)
• (4) Toppling Goliath – Pseudo Sue (with 39 votes) defeated (23) Tattered Flag – TMI PA (with 19 votes)
• (9) Von C Brewing – Walking on Clouds (with 130 votes) defeated (3) Lawson’s Finest Liquids – Sip of Sunshine (with 30 votes)
• (18) Troegs Independent Craft Brewing – Perpetual IPA (with 30 votes) defeated (11) Rubber Soul Brewing Company – Dropout (with 29 votes)

Statistics

Let’s break it down now:

• Von C Brewing – Walking on Clouds had the most votes with 130 votes.
• Von C Brewing’s Walking on Clouds also had the highest margin of victory (100 votes).
• Lawson’s Finest Liquids – Sip of Sunshine received 30 votes, which is the same as a winner this round (Troeg’s Brewing’s Perpetual IPA).
• Upsets this round were:
  • (9) Von C Brewing – Walking on Clouds defeating (3) Lawson’s Finest Liquids – Sip of Sunshine
  • (18) Troeg’s Independent Craft Brewing – Perpetual IPA defeating (11) Rubber Soul Brewing Company – Dropout

Voting

I will be posting the next round of voting shortly (the Round of 4 or the Final Four). I want to say it will be done in the next few minutes, but I am most likely getting called out for quick errands, so it’s looking more like noon. (I was busy spending my 7AM and 8AM squashing Spotted Lanternflies on my hops and roses, or I would have gotten the results page done at 8 and the voting page up at 9.)

But, either way, look for it in the next 2 – 3 hours at the latest.

The remaining schedule of voting for the tournament goes as such:

• Round of 4: July 22nd – July 28th at 11:59PM (EST)
• Round of 2: July 29th – August 4th at 11:59PM (EST)

Things Are Certainly Heating Up

And I don’t just mean the temperature – which it is that too (it has been a scorcher of a week here in Central PA). But we are down to the Final Four of the tournament, so we have just two rounds left. This week and next week’s finals heads up matchup. Who will walk away top dog / top beer / top whatever? You guys will decide!

This is our first Battle of the Beers tournament, but our third tournament overall (after having done a Battle of the Breweries (2021) and a Battle of the Breweries (2022)).
