SingleCut Beer’s Social Media Post

SingleCut Beer Posts A Controversial Picture on Social Media

SingleCut Beer social media decided to make a controversial post today in honor of 9/11. Today most accounts, be it craft beer, major industries (like Coke or Pepsi or Kellogg or your local sports team), political groups, your friends and family; everyone is posting respect and honor tributes for those we’ve lost twenty-three years ago.

I first saw it around 9 AM – 10 AM ish this morning when checking social media accounts.

I can understand the idea of the post, to honor those who lost their lives… but it just seems to be in a bit of poor taste. There is time and place for respectable posts honoring those we lost, or those who serve (for example on Veterans Day), and other such things, this post unfortunately misses the mark quite a bit.

Update – Post Removal

(Edit: This article was updated at 5:15 PM EST.)

The following all comes via the edit to the article. A reddit article – /r/Craft Beer – This is So Disgraceful and in Terrible Taste – posted about the SingleCut Beer social media post. Calling it (obviously by the title) disgraceful and in terrible taste.

The original post’s comment:

This brewery completely missed the mark on their latest social media post. In my opinion is disrespectful, offensive and down right disgusting to think that this was on okay thing to post. Like what social media manager was like “👍🏾hell yeah this goes so hard!!!”

Really terrible behavior

They have since removed the post but it does not excuse the fact this was thought appropriate

/r/Craft Beer – This is So Disgraceful and in Terrible Taste

Later, as the topic ballooned to over 80 comments, SingleCut Beer itself commented on the thread, stating:

I truly apologize.

The intention wasn’t to commercialize the tragedy. As a lifelong NY’er born in NYC, 9/11 was traumatic for me. I’m fortunate to say no one close to me was involved, but I did have a long history with the WTC, certainly my favorite NYC landmark. I enjoyed many meals with my family at Windows On the World, our favorite restaurant and some of my most cherished memories. The events further rattled me as I was in Manhattan at the time of the attacks on a job interview of all things. I visited the site two nights after the attacks (at 14th St, you couldn’t travel lower) to support the workers hauling the wreckage away. I’ll never forget it.

I created the image posted today. I purposely left the image without branding, and as a brewer, proud NY’er and someone who feels the weight of this day each year it was my tribute. Admittedly, and in hindsight, it did not read well with those who don’t understand my background or intent. Nonetheless, it was a mistake and I’m sorry for the poor emotions it may have brought on.

I deleted all postings shortly after they were posted. – Rich / Owner

So it would seem it was just an error of judgment, and the post has been removed. Hopefully a bit more thought is put forward in their social media marketing in the future.

State by state we are adding maps of all of the different states with every brewery in each state. (We will eventually get to the US Territories, as well as the Canadian Provinces, and possibly more countries; as well as doing some fun maps like a map of all the breweries we’ve been to, and other fun maps.) You can find the brewery maps here:

We are also working on a project of creating printable and downloadable PDFs and resources to be able to check and keep track of all of the breweries you’ve been to. So stay tuned for that project once we are finished with the Brewery Maps of the US States.
