Beer Review: Fatum Series: Pink Guava (Tattered Flag)
Picking up the Pink Starburst IPA (Inexplicably Juicy – review forthcoming) I had to try some beer at the bar (can’t stop at a brewery and not get a beer!).
This time its the latest iteration of their Fatum series. The fatum series is pretty much all various types of small batch sours and wild ales and they have done A LOT of various types so far. Strawberry rhubarb, just rhubarb, just strawberry, imperial strawberry, blackberry, blackberry lactose, peach, mango, kumquat, apple cranberry, blueberry, blueberry and raspberry, melon star, elderberries, maple kumquat, sangria… etc, etc, etc. (the entire blog would just be a list of all of the different styles/adjuncts).
This was their latest version (the previous one was the Sangria one). I’ve had a few of the series so far but not all of them, and I’ve enjoyed all of the ones to various degrees depending on the adjunct.

Untappd Write-up: Our kettle sour series beer with 300lbs of Guava added!
Right off the bat the look and appearance of the beer is delicious looking, a light strawish golden hue, with a great fizziness and pop to it. No head to this beer (as its not supposed to really have one), the look is typical for a lighter fruit colored sour.
The aroma is your normal sour beer, a light airy fruity smell, but this time with a wallop of guava overflowing your nostrils immediately. It has that ‘zap’ ‘zip’ smell of a sour, where you can smell the tartness, the puckering, already, but with the backbone of the fruit involved – this time guava – and this is a really good smell, a really good smelling beer.
From the first sip its straight up juicy and tart. In equal mixture and in a great balance. The tartness to juicy ratio is pretty much exactly half and it works perfectly that way. Its fruity and with a large dosage of guava exploding in your mouth as you drink it down. Just like the previous versions (raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, etc, etc) its a wonderful sour with a great very fruitful taste just depending on what fruit(s) used. And this one is no different.
Could easily sip this one all day at the bar while chatting with friends or sitting outside on a nice deck on a hot summer day. Just a clean, refreshing, tart drink that tastes wonderfully.
