    Veteran’s Day

This Saturday is Veteran’s Day – November 11th. In honor of that, and keeping with creating more and more maps for people to be able to find and decide on what breweries to visit, I decided to create a map of the breweries in Pennsylvania owned by a US Veteran.

Map of Pennsylvania Breweries Owned by Veterans

    This Veteran’s Day

What better way than patronizing one of these great breweries this weekend and especially on Veteran’s Day on Saturday, November 11th, 2023? Many are also doing discounts, pay it forwards, and other programs for veterans as well. So you can both receive – as a veteran – and give to veterans. Check out the breweries’ social media pages for more information.

This is also the big Goose Island Bourbon County release each year, and to counter that – many smaller breweries across the country, and in Pennsylvania in particular, do big stout releases of their own, or events celebrating the stouts they have. (See Amy’s review of Bourbon County – 2019 Vintage.)

We will do our best to keep this post updated til the big day in a few weeks. So keep coming back to it and checking it out to see if there’s any changes.

    Black Friday 2023

So this Black Friday, instead of running around chasing the newest Bourbon County Releases and buying up all that AB InBev, why not hit up some of your local craft breweries doing big releases or beer events for Black Friday. Theres so many good stouts (and porters, and schwarzbiers, and other dark beers) to be had just in your own backyard in Pennsylvania. Here alone by us in Central PA we have a lot of great choices for dark beers – from YAH Brew, Moo – Duck Brewery, Troegs Independent Brewing, Boneshire Brew Works, etc, etc, etc, etc.

  • Mechanicsburg Area Breweries

    Mechanicsburg Area Breweries

A map of the Mechanicsburg (and surrounding) Area breweries.

    Mechanicsburg Area Breweries

There are a lot of fantastic breweries in the Mechanicsburg area! And with the addition of Sworn Brewing – that list is only growing!

Here is Google Directions to take you from the greater Mechanicsburg area breweries (starting at Ever Grain Brewing Company): Google Maps – Greater Mechanicsburg Area Breweries. These directions will take you from Ever Grain Brewing Company to Mellow Mink Brewery to LoveDraft’s Brew Co to Appalachian Brewing Company (Mechanicsburg) to High Road Taproom to Sworn Brewing to Wolf Brewing to Hemauer Brewing and then ending at Marzoni’s Brick Over Pizza and Brewery and Isaac’s Craft Kitchen and Brewery. Total driving time is 53 minutes (at time of making the map). 16.3 miles of driving total.

Google Map Directions of Breweries in Mechanicsburg (starting with Ever Grain Brewing Company)

    Map of Mechanicsburg Area Breweries

The following map shows breweries in the Mechanicsburg area. Breweries with the ‘beer mug’ are located in Mechanicsburg (although Ever Grain is listed as a Camp Hill location, it is just two blocks away from Mellow Mink which has a Mechanicsburg address, and Grateful Goat which is further east than both, also has a Mechanicsburg address – so I have included Ever Grain Brewing in with the Mechanicsburg breweries). Also included are breweries in very near by surrounding (West Shore) areas – such as Enola, Lemoyne, Camp Hill, etc.

The yellow pins are those without a Mechanicsburg address (not including Ever Grain which I placed in with the Mechanicsburg locations) – it also includes the Farmers Market (West Shore Farmers Market) which has a GearHouse Brewing stand.

A late addition to the list is Cold Springs Brewery; which has a Mechanicsburg address despite being south of Shepherdstown. (I was tempted to give this a separate pin color, but decided against it due to having a Mechanicsburg location still, and because it would be the only one of that nature).

    How to Use the Map

You can zoom in, and click on each of the beer mugs with the paw prints on them to see the breweries. This will call up their address via Google Maps, as well as any other information they have supplied to Google (phone numbers, websites, etc.). You can also save this map to your Google Maps so when you call up Google Maps these locations will be pinned onto your map as an overlay.

Hops and Vines for Hunger (2023)

    Hops for Hunger

Raising the Bar in the Fight Against Hunger

Hops for Hunger (Hops and Vines for Hunger) reached out to us to help them promote this wonderful fundraiser.

    The campaign aims to:

    • Raise funds to maximize the work of Feeding Pennsylvania’s nine member food banks and serve Pennsylvanians facing hunger
    • Support the development of nutrition education resources created by PA Eats to educate food-insecure Pennsylvanians on how to prepare simple, accessible meals with affordable, healthy ingredients commonly found in food pantries
    • Promote the support of local breweries and wineries across the Commonwealth

This is a month long fundraiser in November and they have been doing it yearly now for a few years.

    Hops and Vines for Hunger

The following comes from their campaign (Our Programs) page:

Pennsylvania boasts over 800 breweries and wineries combined across the state — and that number is growing. But just as these numbers are increasing, so are the number of food insecure families and individuals across Pennsylvania. In fact, nearly 2 million Pennsylvanians struggle with hunger every day – including nearly 500,000 children.

That’s why Feeding Pennsylvania, PA Eats, and Breweries in PA are joining forces with local breweries and wineries across the state through Hops & Vines for Hunger — a month-long, statewide fundraiser throughout November. The campaign will aim to:

    • Raise funds to maximize the work of Feeding Pennsylvania’s 9 member food banks and serve Pennsylvanians facing hunger;
    • Support the development of nutrition education resources created by PA Eats to educate food-insecure Pennsylvanians on how to prepare simple, accessible meals with affordable, healthy ingredients commonly found in food pantries;
    • Promote the support of local breweries and wineries across the Commonwealth.
Feeding PA – Hops and Vines for Hunger (Our Programs Page)

Bloggers, Influencers, YouTubers, and More (Oh My)

This year, for their upcoming November campaign – Feeding PA through Hops and Vines for Hunger are reaching out to bloggers, influencers, YouTubers, and more to help get the word out on this wonderful campaign to try and boost and promote the need to help feed people in Pennsylvania.

You can do your part as well. If you would like to help out with the campaign, in any way, go to their “Our Programs page here: Feeding PA – Hops and Vines for Hunger (Our Programs) page. There you can see ways to promote, and campaign, as well as ways to donate directly.

We are working on a massive project here at The Beer Thrillers. We are creating a map of all of the breweries across the United States. State by state we are adding maps of all of the different states with every brewery in each state. (We will eventually get to the US Territories, as well as the Canadian Provinces, and possibly more countries; as well as doing some fun maps like a map of all the breweries we’ve been to, and other fun maps.) You can find the brewery maps here:

We are also working on a project of creating printable and downloadable PDFs and resources to be able to check and keep track of all of the breweries you’ve been to. So stay tuned for that project once we are finished with the Brewery Maps of the US States.

      Brews and Bands for Bart

      Block Party of the Summer

How do you recognize one of the baddest and coolest party throwers around? By throwing one of the biggest and baddest bashes ever in his honor! Thats just what’s in store this Saturday at Tattered Flag. We’ve discussed Bartley Kaminski here on the blog before, in numerous different ways, but recently with his passing, and with the event here and various events in the distant past.

This event has been planned out for quite a while now, but has really blown up with Bart’s passing. Tons of breweries adding their names to the list, and lots of other additions, and add – ons and groups adding to it and showing up in various ways to help the cause. It looks to be one hell of a bash, and one hell of a way to salute, and remember Bart and to throw one final rad party in his honor and memory.

      Bartley Kaminiski

We talked about Bart before here, and talked about his passing previously here: Farewell to Bartley Francis Kaminski. He founded Kollision Media, Hop Hedz Gear, and has been referred to as “The Willy Wonka of Beer Events”. I could go on and on about him here. He was just a great guy, the life of the party without being too much, and everyone who knew him, or even just met him at one event or the other has amazing memories or stories to tell about him. My buddy talks about Bart’s green – suit or green – man appearance at the Atlantic City Brewfest all the time. There was very rarely an event in the Central PA area where you didn’t see a Hop Hedz Gear stand or Bart himself. And I guarantee you there was at least one person walking around in a tee shirt or hoodie that he made.

I can’t do him justice here discussing his amazing life, but we can do him justice by having one heck of a party in his honor.

      Brews and Bands for Bart

The final brewery list for Brews and Bands for Bart posted today (Wednesday 8.11.21)

Look at that line-up! And word is there might be more additions to come and stuff, even though this is the “finalized” list. And I’m sure some might have their own little additions or add ons or secret hidden stashes too.

Here is a full list with all of their Untappd links:

Word is also Lancaster Brewing Company, North Country Brewing, and maybe one or two more will be unofficially added. That is one hell of a lineup right there! With breweries from out of state like Tripping Animals (Florida) and much more.

And let us not forget the bands part of this event as well!

The music lineup for Brews and Bands for Bart at Tattered Flag this Saturday (8.14.21)

Also, as posted by Hop Hedz Gear on social media:

In addition to the 40+ breweries that will be attending the fest, we would like to thank our group of vendors who will be a part of the event! Thanks so Whimsical Wonders By Kris, Thicc Bois Glassware, D&S Cigar Lounge, Dutch Country Soft Pretzels, and Feathers Feed and Jerky. Be sure to stop by these booths, as all sales will have a portion of proceeds donated to the cause!

      When, Where, How

When is this amazing block party bash? This Saturday, from noon to 4PM. Where is it? At Tattered Flag Brewery on South Union Street in Middletown, Pennsylvania (Dauphin County). • Grist House Shipping Statewide in Pennsylvania

Grist House PA Beer Shipping (photo courtesy of their Facebook page)

Earlier today Grist House Craft Brewery announced that they will be shipping statewide in Pennsylvania. Adding yet another fantastic brewery to a growing long list of breweries shipping statewide in Pennsylvania. Soon it’ll be easier to list the breweries NOT shipping than the ones shipping.

They posted on their Facebook page at noon today:

“You have asked and it’s finally here! We are now shipping Grist House beer anywhere in Pennsylvania!

We’ve been working on this for a long time now, and we are so excited to be bringing Grist House to craft beer lovers all over the state!

      Visit gristhouse.com/shipping for more info.”

In just the past week several breweries have announced shipping within or into Pennsylvania. If there was one thing that has been a good that has come out of 2020, its the increase in shipping for beer and beer services.

Grist House Craft Brewery is a micro brewery located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. According to Untappd they have 185 unique beers and a global average rating of 3.99 with 150K ratings. Their Untappd description reads: “Grist House Craft Brewery is located in the heart of Millvale, PA just minutes north of downtown Pittsburgh. Family owned and operated, we strive to produce high quality beer that is delicious and easy drinking. The brewery is loaded with character, from our taproom overlooking the brew system, our all-season deck and spacious outdoor seating area, to our tap handles hand crafted by a local blacksmith. We invite you, your friends and family to come enjoy a pint with us.”

As always everyone, get out there and enjoy some great local craft beer, or get some shipped to you from a small time great like Grist House or Tattered Flag or The Veil or Aslin, and enjoy a delicious pint of great craft beer.

      Cheers!

      -B. Kline

    • Rally Point – Cox Brewing Company – Taproom Opening Friday, September 4th 2020

Cox Brewing Company’s Rally Point Taproom (Photo Courtesy of Cox Brewing Company Facebook page)

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2020, marks the final day of Cox Brewing Company‘s current location and brewery and taproom. But its not the final chapter for the veteran owned brewery.

Their new taproom has been in the works for a while now and despite all the difficulties of 2020, it is finally due for its grand opening on September 4th, 2020, at 5:00 PM. The new taproom is located at 50 Veterans Drive in Elizabethtown.

As per Cox Brewing Company’s website there is some rules to visiting the new taproom on opening day (primarily due to COVID-19 guidelines by the state), a brief summary is here:

Briefing: When you plan to visit, please enter through the main entrance (not the patio door) and as always, please wear your mask while not seated at your table. Anyone who has dined out recently knows that any customer who wishes to consume alcohol on premises must also purchase a meal. Being neighbors with PizzAtown makes this very easy.

Customers can go order their meal at the PizzAtown counter or use their smart phone to order take-out online and eat it at your table with your pint or flight. This will ensure the state guidelines are being met, it’s much appreciated! Check out this article from Breweries in PA on visiting protocol.” (Cox Brewing Company’s Website).

The new taproom is a big step up for the veteran owned brewery. The new taproom is set-up to be a much bigger improvement upon their old location. As per their website, the new tap room will boast: ““the new space will have a 20-foot bar, a dedicated stage for live music, a bunker, outdoor patio, and delicious menu options on the property from our friends at Pizzatown.”

Cox Brewing Company (Rheems Brewery) (Photo Courtesy of Lancaster Online)

The ‘old’ facility in Rheems is closing on Wednesday September 2nd, 2020 and was the home base for the brewery for the past several years. I (B. Kline) had gotten to visit it a few times, once being their 2nd Anniversary party, which was a complete blast. The old Rheems location was a garage and was an intimate, Cheers like place where people knew everyone, and everyone knew everyone, much like many hometown breweries in the Central PA area. It will be missed, but the new location looks to be offering a lot that the old place could not and will be a massive step up for the brewing company.

      Cox Brewing Company (Rheems location)

The old location was the home base since 2015, and has served the brewery well. Cox Brewing Company started in 2015 and has been located there since the beginning. Cox Brewing Company is a veteran owned brewery and in the five years since they’ve opened, as been one of the highly regarded Central PA breweries, making some extremely delicious beers over the years.

Their Untappd page reads: “Cox Brewing Company (CBC) is a veteran-owned brewery located in Elizabethtown, PA in the village of Rheems.”

On opening day (Friday) the beer lineup for Rally Point (as per their website on 9.1.20) looks to be as such:

      • Liberty Lager
      • 82nd Amber Ale
      • CH-47 IPA
      • Fat Cow Coffee Porter
      • Cryo Citra
      • Tropic Lightening
      • IP-X
      • Clockwork Oranjse
      • The Big Red One
      • SR71
      • Worthog Wit
      • 17022

An impressive lineup for their opening day that I can’t wait to personally dive into. They will be offering flights and drafts on Friday, so you will definitely be able to get your fill! I know I’ll be there Friday, and can’t wait.

Cox Brewing Company – Rheems (Photo courtesy of their Facebook page)

Cox Brewing Company on their Facebook page posted the following about their last day in Rheems tomorrow – September 2nd, 2020:

“Just a quick reminder we’re open tomorrow in Rheems for our last night up on the hill. We’ll be pouring take-out only. There will be an off-premises location open if you decide to hang out for a bit. #veteranownedandoperated, #gratitude#community#goodtimes#rheems ##CBC#elizabethtownpa#coxbrewingcompany#craftbeer#customerexperience#pabreweries#pacraftbeer#pabreweries#drinklocal#coxbrewingcompany#cbc#lancastercounty#veteranowned

The hours for the new location will be:

      • Wednesday – Thursday: 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM
      • Friday: 5:00 PM – 11:00 PM
      • Saturday: 12:00 PM – 11:00 PM
