Just announced – Smuttynose Brewing Company and Five Boroughs Brewing Company are joining forces under the ownership of Finestking Brewing LLC.
In a year of mergers, acquisitions, changes, and growth (as well as much decline) in the craft beer industry – here comes yet another merger / acquisition.

The Brooklyn – based craft brewery Five Boroughs Brewing Co. has been acquired by Smuttynose Brewing Co., the first brewery in New Hampshire.
The acquisition, announced on November 7, 2023 (yesterday), provides Finestkind Brewing LLC, the owner of Smuttynose, with access to resources in the New York market and an expanded presence in the tri-state area. Over the next few months, Five Boroughs’ production will transition to Finestkind Brewing’s facility in Hampton, New Hampshire.

The Five Boroughs Brewing Company’s taproom in Sunset Park (Brooklyn, NY) will continue to operate. It will stay home to the innovation lab and will be used to try out new beer styles, new beers, and all around be a R & D facility (research and development).
They will be doing small batches for select accounts, as well as innovation, research, and supporting new projects.
We remain dedicated to our Sunset Park taproom’s role as a hub for creativity and experimentation. It serves as a space for pushing craft beer boundaries while celebrating the community that has shaped the brand.

The acquisition represents a new chapter for Finestkind Brewing LLC as it explores potential expansion into new beverage categories, including non-alcoholic options. Five Boroughs will join Smuttynose Brewing Company and Island District Cocktails as one of Finestkind’s core beverage brands. Smuttynose Brewing Company is committed to ongoing portfolio development and establishing a new beverage platform, with a focus on geographical diversification and a warm welcome to like-minded brands eager to join its expanded portfolio.
All around this looks like a good acquisition that will help all brands and companies involved. As the craft beer industry begins to downsize and slim down, narrowing itself and winnowing away some of the excess its gained over the booming years, there will be more and more of these kinds of acquisitions.
