Last year was an absolute blast. You can read the article for last year’s here:

It is honestly a great and fun brewfest, encompassing two levels and letting you walk around looking at all of the cars. Everyone is very laid back, theres food in the basement area, band (or bands) playing, and lots of older folk getting ‘their groove on’.

Special Commemorative Beer

Every year Autos and Ales likes to make a specialty beer just for the event. Last year they had Snitz Creek Brewery do the honors. This year it will be Englewood Brewing from Hummelstown / Hershey PA. From their Facebook about it:

We try to connect beer and automotive history each year at Autos and Ales through a special transportation-inspired brew crafted by one of our participating breweries. On Friday, November 4th, our friends at Englewood Brewing will debut “Merlette Swan, a Schwarzbier Lager. Head brewer, Jesse Prall, is a Cadillac guy as evidenced by his tattoo and the naming of his beer. The “merlette swan” was a component of Cadillac’s original 1902 logo and has been on and off the company’s crest over the decades. The beer is on its way and promises to be easy to drink and dark like motor oil. Check out the photos from brew day and note the rubber ducky in the tank (Jesse says no swans were available); then get your tickets for this not to be missed annual event!

Thanks For Reading

Thank you for reading everyone! Always appreciate everyone stopping by and checking out the blog. Lots of big news going around here at the blog! A big Phillies win last night (7 – 0 !!!) with five home runs last night. What an amazing game that was! That makes the series now 2 – 1 Phillies, as they go into game four tonight in Philadelphia. Citizens Bank Park will be rocking! Also today is Wednesday, so another new episode of Andor, so that means its another Star Wars Wednesday, so another Star Wars themed beer review. (Also, with it being a Phillies game, that also means there will be a Phillies themed beer review. Whew, do I have my work cut out for me today.)

Also, as the norm with November, I do an article a day. My version of NaNoWriMo. So every day in November there will be at least one brand new article. So make sure you are stopping by the blog to check out everything that is going on. As there will be lots of beer reviews, book reviews, hike reviews, and other things to check out here.

And on the homefront even bigger news. We got told yesterday that they will be inducing Amy on the 9th. So looks like Scarlet Emma will be coming sooner than expected! (Original due date was November 22nd.) Things will be getting hectic from the 9th on, thats for sure! I’ll try and fit my writing in around the baby. So bear with us on all things blog related in that time frame.

Also, hopefully I’ll get to see you guys out at the Autos and Ales on Friday. Drew Scott and I will be there, Amy is most likely just going to be DD (designated driver), she might stay, or she might just be dropping and picking us up. Who knows yet. It is after all only five days before the induction.

Well, anyway, as always, thanks for reading, and make sure to root the Phillies on tonight!

Cheers!

Triple Bottom Brewing’s bet with the Mayor of Houston (through the Mayor of Philadelphia)

Another Friendly Wager

Seems like everyone in Philadelphia is in a gambling mood! (But lets be honest, is it really gambling when you know you’re gonna win?). Just like Yards Brewing Company and Saint Arnold Brewing Company having a friendly wager, so is Triple Bottom Brewing through the Mayor of Philadelphia having a friendly wager against the Mayor of Houston.

Mayor Jim Kenney’s tweet:

You’ve got a deal I’m proud to wager some Philly favorites: A six-pack from

@TripleBottomCo

. A delicious meal from #SouthPhillyBarbacoa. And if we win—and we will—you can make a donation to beloved local youth program,

You can find Mayor Jim Kenney’s Twitter Here: Mayor Jim Kenney @ Philly Mayor.

Lets Meet the Competitors

And no, I’m not gonna go into the mayors involved, but into the breweries involved. (Because lets be honest, how many of you are coming to The Beer Thrillers to learn about the Mayor of Houston?)

First up, let’s start with Triple Bottom Brewing (since the Phillies are winning anyway):

Triple Bottom Brewing

All information comes from Untappd. Triple Bottom Brewing is a micro brewery from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They ave 75 unique beers and 12,000~ ratings with a global average rating of 3.75 (as of 10.28.22). They have no Untappd description.

You can find their social media below:

Now let’s go into the loser’s locker room with…

8th Wonder Brewery

All information comes from Untappd. 8th Wonder Brewery is a micro brewery from Houston, Texas. They have 245 unique beers and 130,000~ ratings, with a global average rating of 3.68 (as of 10.28.22). Their Untappd description reads: “Makers of Gr8 Beer and Fun Times in East Downtown Houston.”

Friendly Wager

Earlier I announced that Yards Brewing Company offered a friendly wager against Saint Arnold Brewing Company. You can read that article here:

Phillies – World Series

For more articles and information we’ve posted on the Philadelphia Phillies and the World Series, and our game – day daily Philly beer reviews, check the list below. Make sure you root on the Phillies while drinking and reading too!

Thanks For Reading

I am super – super – super – super pumped for the World Series this year! Its been 13 long years since the Phillies have been in the World Series, and after the disappointing loss to the Yankees, its a great time to avenge ourselves and get the beautiful city of Philadelphia another World Series ring! Grease up the poles! I’m thinking Phillies in 6!

Tonight (actually leaving to go shortly) we’ll be at the Boneshire Brew Works 6th Anniversary Celebration and will be watching the beginning of the game there. Come on out and hang with us and watch the game! (As long as you’re rooting on the Phillies that is.)

Just covered both the Yards Brewing wager and Triple Bottom Brewing’s wagers, and now that my ‘work’ for the day is done, I’m off to Boneshire. Go Phillies!

Cheers!

Yards Brewing Company vs Saint Arnold Brewing Company https://thebeerthrillers.com/2022/10/28/yards-brewing-company-vs-saint-arnold-brewing-company/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=yards-brewing-company-vs-saint-arnold-brewing-company Fri, 28 Oct 2022 22:55:00 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=9873
Yards Brewing Company vs. Saint Arnold Brewing Company – A Friendly Wager

A Friendly Wager

A great ‘tradition’ that has popped up around the big sports championships each year seems to be city vs. city craft brewery bets / wagers. First time I remember seeing it was when Sam Adams challenged Sweet Water Brewery back in 2017 over Super Bowl 51…. and well, we all know how that turned out (the infamous 28 – 3). (You can read about it here: Sam Adams Issues a High Steaks Challenge to Atlanta Based Brewery). Over the years there’s been lots of breweries who have participated in these types of bets and challenges and wagers. City brewery vs. city brewery. Usually with stuff like a case on the line, or having to keep the other brewery’s beers on tap, or having to make a beer in honor of the winning team, etc.

I just want to point out that as a Phillies fan – ya’ll know who I’m rooting for in this wager.

Terms of the Agreement

As announced today, on all of the social media platforms for both Yards Brewing Company and Saint Arnold Brewing Company, the wager is simple – “WHEN the Phils win, Saint Arnold himself will pose for a photo with Yards beer, our merch, and a Phils flag. IF Houston wins the Series, we will have to share a photo of us drinking Saint Arnold Beer, wearing Saint Arnold merch, and holding the ‘Stros flag. It is a win-win deal!” (Yards Brewing Company.)

Here is the full announcement by both challengers:

Yards Brewing Company:

Game on! Saint Arnold Brewing Company in Houston is feeling pretty confident so we challenged them to a bet they couldn’t resist:

WHEN the Phils win, Saint Arnold himself will pose for a photo with Yards beer, our merch, and a Phils flag. IF Houston wins the Series, we will have to share a photo of us drinking Saint Arnold Beer, wearing Saint Arnold merch, and holding the ‘Stros flag. It is a win-win deal!

Then we thought, “Let’s make it a win-win-WIN!” Yards will donate $1 of every pint of Philly Standard sold in our taproom on game days to Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Philadelphia Region and Saint Arnold will donate $1 of every pint of H-Town Pils sold during Series games to Kids’ Meals, Inc. regardless of the outcome.

Now let’s start drinking and helping. #GoPhils#RedOctober#MadeByPhila

Yards Brewing Company – Facebook

Saint Arnold Brewing Company:

Game on!

Yards Brewing Co., in Philadelphia, is feeling pretty confident and they are challenging us to a bet we couldn’t resist.

If Astros win the World Series, Yards Brewing will have to share a photo drinking Saint Arnold Beer, wearing Saint Arnold merch, and holding the Astros flag that we are going to mail to them. If the Phils win (very unlikely), Saint Arnold himself will pose for a photo with Yards Brewing beer, their merch, and Phillies flag. It is a win-win deal!

Then we thought, “Let’s make it a win-win-WIN!” Saint Arnold will donate $1 of every pint of H-Town Pils sold during the World Series games to Kids Meals Houston Kids’ Meals, Inc. and Yards Brewing will donate $1 of every pint of Philly Standard sold in their taproom through the end of the series to Ronald McDonald House Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Philadelphia Region.

Now let’s start drinking and helping. Go ’Stros!

Oh, we almost forgot! Yards Brewing, what kind of beer would you like us to send when we win? Art Car IPA is a good one to drink the pain away.

The Charities Involved

Its so great to see that these two breweries are going a step above and beyond with their wager and involving the local communities and charities. And this is what is so great about the craft beer community – how much a part of the REAL community they are. For more information on the charities involved, you can click the links below:

Competitors

Let’s take a look at who the competitors are, so the fans can see the challengers (and why they should be rooting for Yards Brewing Company and the Phillies):

H-Town is ready for game 3! If you couldn’t make the trip to Philadelphia, we’ve got you covered! Come to the Beer Garden and watch the World Series on the Super Screen.

What’s better than drinking Saint Arnold beer during the World Series games? Drinking Saint Arnold beer and knowing that the more you drink, the more you help. If you happen to be in Philadelphia for the World Series, you can also drink and help there! Yards Brewing Co. in Philadelphia will donate $1 of every pint of Philly Standard sold in their taproom through the end of the series to Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Philadelphia Region.

We have a special connection with Yards Brewing Co. because they challenged us to a bet that we couldn’t resist and they will probably regret. If Astros win the World Series, Yards Brewing will have to share a photo drinking Saint Arnold Beer, wearing Saint Arnold merch, and holding the Astros flag. Boneshire Brew Works Celebrates Their 6th Anniversary This Friday – October 28th, 2022

Happy Anniversary!

Lets all give a hip hip hooray for another year of Boneshire Brew Works! Its their sixth anniversary, and they are going as strong if not stronger than ever. Its so great to see them growing and getting bigger and Friday is shaping up to be another great event for them.

Pretty…. Pretty…. Pretty…. Pretty Good

Its no surprise to say we’re big fans of Boneshire Brew Works here at The Beer Thrillers. Both myself (B. Kline) and Josh (J. Doncevic) are mug club members several years going now. Amy also loves coming over to have beers (while… before she went and got herself pregnant), and Leela (the faithful four legged companion to The Beer Thrillers) loves sitting outside and watching the cars on Derry Street.

We all love going to Boneshire Brew Works’ main brewery on Derry Street in Rutherford Pennsylvania (outskirts of Harrisburg). Its a great local meet up place, a great brewery, and a very chill atmosphere, a bar where ‘everyone knows your name’. And thats one of the biggest selling points of Boneshire Brew Works, why they are such a great member of the community, and why its so wonderful to see them growing and getting to celebrate their sixth anniversary.

Featured article: Boneshire Brew Works Is Celebrating Their 5th Anniversary.

So let’s talk about Friday.

Friday Party

What better place to catch the World Series Game 1 at? Hopefully get to see Aaron Nola throw a perfect game against the Houston Astros maybe? Wouldn’t that be a great capper to this party!

But first, before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s talk about what Boneshire Brew Works has going on that night:

First off, you can find the event here: Boneshire Brew Works – 6th Anniversary (Facebook Events).

As their description reads:

Join us to celebrate our 6th anniversary! -Friday the 28th we will have Nate Myers
-Saturday the 29th we will have Lil Brother Band
Special Releases include:
-French Toast Dark of the Forest
-Cinnamon Bun Dark of the Forest
-Carrot Cake Dark of the Forest
-Toasted Marshmallow Dark of the Forest
-Apple Pie Sour
-Angels on the Sideline

Boneshire Brew Works – 6th Anniversary (Facebook Events)

They have three event pages for this weekend:

As their event page above announced, they are releasing several beers for this weekend: French Toast Dark of the Forest, Cinnamon Bun Dark of the Forest, Carrot Cake Dark of the Forest, Toasted Marshmallow Dark of the Forest, Apple Pie Sour, and a fan favorite return of Angels on the Sideline.

At last year’s release, they did a series of Shire beers that incorporated some of the above flavors (Cinnamon Bun, French Toast, etc.). You can read the review here:

Looks Like It’ll Be a Fun Event

It truly looks like it’ll be a fun event and I can’t wait. Plus, getting to see the Phillies in a World Series game for the first time since 2009 isn’t a bad thing either! Hopefully we’ll get to see you all out there. I know we’ll be there – (probably not with Leela, but maybe, who knows).

Beer Review: Athena (Creature Comforts Brewing Company) https://thebeerthrillers.com/2019/10/22/beer-review-athena-creature-comforts-brewing-company/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=beer-review-athena-creature-comforts-brewing-company Wed, 23 Oct 2019 03:46:26 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=970
Sitting out, enjoying the nice sun, reading, and drinking a great beer from Creature Comforts

If you are from the Central PA area, as you can tell, this picture was not taken from today, but it is me finally getting the review up and done, and its also nice to look at a more beautiful time than the ugly rainy dreary day we had today. So while sipping on just a Perpetual IPA (nothing too fancy I’m afraid) and watching the World Series (have to give a shout out to the Houston Astros, pulling for them since my beloved Phillies didn’t even make the playoffs) as I type up this review.

So I drank the beer, took the picture, and all that back on October 11th. And I’m sure I planned to type up the review and post it then. I know I have many backlogged beer reviews to do (several from Troegs, Tattered Flag, and Rotunda, as well as some from Boneshire, and some from the beer mails I’ve received), and this was most likely planned that night or the day after. Trying to recall what I did that night that led me to not posting the review… and I don’t remember, but I’m going to bet I got drunk. Probably went out drinking with D. Scott or something similar.

But have no fear, as this World Series Game 1 heats up, I’m posting the review up now.

Beer: Athena
Brewery: Creature Comforts Brewing Company
Style: Sour – Berliner Weisse
ABV: 4.5%
IBU: No IBU
Untappd Write-Up: A refreshing, gently tart, German-style wheat beer. Our take on the classic Berliner has a blend of citric and fruit notes with nods to cider and sauvignon blanc.

Its the 8th inning now, and we got a game on our hands, 5-3 Nationals. My prediction for this game ahead of time was 3-1, so I was way off base. I’m still predicting Astros in six, so we’ll see how that goes.

Anyway, back to the review…

This is a beautiful beer. On a gorgeous sunny day like the 11th was, instead of mowing, I sat and drank this while reading, and it was lovely. Its tart, refreshing, not heavy, not boozy, just a perfect mid-day drink.

From as soon as its poured it bubbles up and it doesn’t stop bubbling until you finish drinking it. It is pretty much a champagne beer with a tart and dry finish that leaves you wanting more.

Appearance is straw yellow and clear. Its effervescent with a champagne like bubbling and carbonation that continues until the glass is drained.

Aroma is almost grape and wine like. Some stone fruit smell and notes, but mostly it just has a dry and tart wine-like smell.

Taste is a dry, champagne finish. Its tart, its crisp, its refreshing. Its very crushable and would be an easy all-day sipper on the back patio reading rather than mowing or hedging or weeding. A perfect procrastinator beer. There is a grape-wine/champagne taste, and a bit of a yeasty-taste, but overall its just tart and rereshingly clear and crisp.

My Untappd Rating: ****
Global Untappd Rating: 3.8 (as of 10.22.19)

Sorry this might not be the most comprehensive review, time has slipped on me with this one, and I also don’t think this is as complex a beer for a super deep introspective review.

The Astros just made it 5-4 in the bottom of the 8th, getting some life in them to make a late run here it looks like. Fingers crossed!

I really don’t know how this one got away from me, and how the time spaced out on this as well, felt like I just drank this last Thursday or Friday, but here it was a Friday the week before. Time skips? Like the Futurama episode? No idea.

But I do have plenty of beer reviews that I need to upload. Every Thursday/Friday I tell myself I’m going to post them, and get to them, …and then life happens and it all gets pushed back, so I apologize for that. Thursday and Friday are my days off, and hopefully this week I’ll actually stick to my idea of making it a “writing weekend”.

End of the 8th and its 5-4, so we’ll have to wait and see what the 9th has in store! Exciting start to the World Series this year!

For those wondering, in the picture, the books I was reading that day were:

* AftershocK
* The Killing Joke

I recommend both, definitely recommend The Killing Joke, as any true Batman nerd will tell you, its tremendous.

Ok folks, keep your fingers crossed for the ‘Stros and keep drinking!
