The Game has New Heroes, New Power-Ups, New Chaotic Effects and a New Voodoo Ranger Character Cup Available First in a Limited Number at Gen Con

Wilmington, Delaware, July 24, 2024 – Rollacrit, the premiere lifestyle brand for tabletop games, has announced today that it is partnering with Voodoo Ranger IPA, the #1 IPA in the USA, on its new follow-up to its massively successful Kickstarter Heroes of Barcadia tabletop game. The next adventure, titled Heroes of Barcadia: Heroes for Hire (launching this September on Kickstarter), promises more excitement, more strategy, and more chaos. Gamers will battle new monsters, build custom dungeons, and compete with friends in this unique Liquid Life System TM board game where players must take a drink when they receive damage. The game comes with four new Heroes for Hire character cups which are designed to replace a character from the original Heroes of Barcadia base game and/or party pack. This means players can seamlessly integrate these new heroes into their existing game setup, keeping the maximum number of players at 8 for optimized playthroughs.

Voodoo Ranger IPA by New Belgium Brewing Company

“Voodoo Ranger has supported tabletop gaming for over six years through community and the events that surround it. We played Heroes of Barcadia as a team at the brewery and we all fell in love with how it brings together tabletop gaming and beer,” said Patrick Morgan, Community Manager for Voodoo Ranger.
Voodoo Ranger’s character cup comes with Rangerous new powers that bring players together for a temporary truce because everyone can agree on good beer. One thousand of these Voodoo Ranger cups will be available for purchase at www.vootique.com on July 31st, while supplies last and at the upcoming Gen Con next month (August 1st through the 4th) at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis at the Rollacrit booth #3027 and at Nevermore Union Station. When they are gone, the only place to find them will be as an add-on in the Heroes for Hire Kickstarter launching in September of this year.
Purchasing the Voodoo Ranger Character Cup at the Rollacrit Gen Con booth will entitle gamers to a free wooden drink token good for one Voodoo Ranger beer at Nevermore Union Station (must be 21+ years old) during Gen Con. Nevermore is a fantastic pub that’s the perfect spot to relax, indulge in delicious food and drinks, and demo Heroes of Barcadia.
Not only are there new characters in Heroes for Hire, but gamers also get to play with a new mechanic — the Die of Barcane Chaos. Crafted by the Chaoschasers (Alchemist Wizards who reveled in the unpredictable nature of magic), the Die of Barcane Chaos has the power to alter reality and make the game much more…chaotic. More will be revealed when the Kickstarter launches, but suffice it to say that a player’s Loot Card strategy will never be the same again. Gaming enthusiasts will be able to play a demo of Heroes for Hire at the Rollacrit booth during Gen Con.
New Belgium Brewing Company, via their Voodoo Ranger series has previously collaborated with Magic the Gathering for Voodoo Ranger – Vastwood Seer IPA. You can read more about that here: New Belgium Teams Up with Magic the Gathering for Vastwood Seer IPA.
Introducing Heroes for Hire

Heroes of Barcadia – Heroes for Hire on Kickstarter

Ready for a new adventure? The original Heroes of Barcadia are facing a new challenge! The Grand Drink Guardian found an ancient artifact in the dungeon — the Die of Barcane Chaos, and released its chaotic energy. Feeling overwhelmed, our original heroes retreated to the Plastered Pony Tavern to regroup, where they ran into Brewtus Pintsmasher, the event organizer of the drinking contest.
After telling him what was going on, Brewtus sent out letters to distant lands, calling for help. His plea was answered by four valiant heroes — the Heroes for Hire. With rewards aplenty should they succeed, they venture into the dungeon, facing trials even tougher than those of the original Heroes.
Rollacrit is adding NEW HEROES in Heroes for Hire, and here they are:
  • Sip-Jin the Drunken Fist: Master of balance and fluidity from the Brew Shang-La Monastery.
  • Biggswigg the Buzzkiller & Chaser the Rat Queen: Goblin tinkerer and his regal rodent partner.
  • Ontaprielle, the Alchemist: Centaur wizard with potions to heal, harm, or bewilder.
  • Dram the Aged & Oaken & Gulp the Frog: Druidic construct with a unique bond to nature.
Each of these characters comes with 1 Health Bar Cup, 1 d20, 1 Signature Move Card, and 3 new Power-Up Cards themed around the character.
Not going to Gen Con? Sign up to get notified when the Heroes for Hire Kickstarter goes live. Plus, if you sign up for updates and back the project, you will receive a free Die of Barcane Chaos Power-Up Card after it’s fully funded! Sign up now to get notified when Heroes for Hire launches on Kickstarter.

More Information and More Articles on New Belgium Brewing Company

The following information comes from Untappd. New Belgium Brewing Company is a Subsidiary of Kirin Brewery Company and is a macro brewery from Fort Collins, CO. They have 688 unique beers and over 6,299,000 ratings (just shy of 6.3 Million) with a global average rating of 3.63 (as of 7.27.24). Their Untappd description reads: New Belgium Brewing was founded in 1991 in Fort Collins, Colo., by Kim Jordan, a social worker, who built her company the only way a social worker would: People first. Over the past three decades, New Belgium has turned that ethos into a unique “human-powered” business model through practices that were and still are rare in the business world: fully paid healthcare premiums for all coworkers, paying a living wage, open-book management, renewable energy sourcing, a free onsite medical clinic and physician, a deep commitment to philanthropy and advocacy, and much more. With expansions to Asheville, N.C., in 2016; Denver, Colo., in 2018; San Francisco in 2021; and the 2021 acquisition of Bell’s Brewery, based in Kalamazoo, Mich., this people-centric model has led New Belgium to become arguably the most popular and fastest-growing American craft brewer today. New Belgium is famous for its flagship beer, Fat Tire Amber Ale; year-round favorites like Voodoo Ranger IPA (America’s #1 IPA brand), Dominga Mimosa Sour, and La Folie Sour Brown Ale; and an award-winning wood-aged sour program and innovative limited release beers. Voodoo Brewery in Reno Closing https://thebeerthrillers.com/2024/05/31/voodoo-brewery-in-reno-closing/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=voodoo-brewery-in-reno-closing Fri, 31 May 2024 13:11:37 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=15767 Voodoo Brewery in Reno Closing

Voodoo Brewery, known for its eclectic and innovative craft beers, made its much-anticipated debut in Reno in November 2022. This opening marked a significant expansion for the brewery, which originated in Meadville, Pennsylvania, and has since gained a reputation for its unique brews and vibrant atmosphere.

Voodoo Brewery in Reno, NV

The Grand Opening

The grand opening of Voodoo Brewery in Reno attracted a crowd eager to experience the brewery’s offerings. Located in a space that previously housed another establishment, Voodoo Brewery transformed the venue into a welcoming environment that reflects its brand’s quirky and artistic spirit. The interior design features bold colors and eclectic decor, creating an inviting atmosphere for both craft beer enthusiasts and casual visitors alike.

The brewery also emphasizes seasonal and limited-edition releases, ensuring that there is always something new for patrons to try.

Community Engagement

From the outset, Voodoo Brewery aimed to integrate itself into the Reno community. The brewery hosts regular events such as trivia nights, live music performances, and beer tastings, fostering a sense of camaraderie among locals. This commitment to community engagement not only enhances the brewery’s visibility but also strengthens its ties with residents.

Challenges and Closure

Despite the initial excitement surrounding its opening, Voodoo Brewery faced challenges that ultimately led to its closure just months after launching. Reports indicated that the brewery struggled to maintain operations, with some patrons expressing disappointment over the experience. By May 2024, it was confirmed that Voodoo Brewery had permanently closed its doors in Reno, leaving many fans of craft beer lamenting the loss of this unique venue.

The brewery will be replaced with a ‘Champagne and Chocolate, a franchise of The Chocolate Factory.

Conclusion

Voodoo Brewery’s brief tenure in Reno serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by new establishments in the competitive craft beer market. While it brought a fresh perspective and vibrant energy to the local scene during its time, the closure highlights the unpredictable nature of the hospitality industry. As Reno continues to grow as a destination for craft beer lovers, it will be interesting to see what new ventures emerge to fill the void left by Voodoo Brewery.

The following information comes from Untappd. New Belgium Brewing Company is a Subsidiary of Kirin Brewery Company and is a macro brewery from Fort Collins, CO. They have 669 unique beers and over 6,270,000 ratings with a global average rating of 3.63 (as of 8.8.23). Voodoo Brewing Co. Brings Craft Beer Magic to Reno https://thebeerthrillers.com/2023/02/03/voodoo-brewing-co-brings-craft-beer-magic-to-reno/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=voodoo-brewing-co-brings-craft-beer-magic-to-reno Fri, 03 Feb 2023 14:21:55 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=15763 Voodoo Brewing Co. Brings Craft Beer Magic to Reno

Reno’s craft beer scene just got even more exciting! On January 28, 2023, Voodoo Brewing Co. celebrated the grand opening of its Reno location with a packed event that had local beer enthusiasts buzzing. Known for its bold beer styles and vibrant atmosphere, this Pennsylvania-based brewery made a big splash in the Biggest Little City.

Let’s dive into what makes the newest addition to Reno’s craft beer lineup so special.

Voodoo Brewery in Reno, NV

From Pennsylvania to Reno: A Brewing Adventure

Voodoo Brewing Co. has its roots in Pennsylvania, where it operates several brewpubs and franchises. While the brand already boasts locations in Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and South Carolina, Reno marks its first foray into the West. This franchise, owned by Mike and Amy Hitchcock, is just the beginning, with a Las Vegas location also in the works.

Situated in the Plumgate Shopping Center, the Reno Voodoo Brewing Co. location transformed the former Napa Sonoma space, which had been sitting empty for nearly a year. It’s now not only a bustling craft beer hotspot but also the only eatery open for lunch in the shopping center.

Vibrant Atmosphere

Step inside, and you’re greeted by bold, colorful murals that instantly set the tone for a fun and lively experience. The spacious interior features communal tables, a long bar, and creative seating made from wood pallets. It’s a welcoming spot for groups large and small, offering both a community vibe and a touch of individuality.

The Beers: Bold, Fun, and Flavorful

Voodoo Brewing Co. is all about its own craft beers, offering a wide range of styles to suit every palate. Whether you’re an IPA lover or prefer something lighter, the best way to explore their lineup is with a sampler tray. Choose the IPA-only sampler (featuring six hoppy brews) or mix it up with their flagship and seasonal beers, all showcased with daring names on the wall.

Must-Try Beers:

  • Empty Calories: A light beer with only 100 calories but full of flavor, perfect for Coors Light fans looking for an upgrade.
  • Black VooDoo Daddy: A rich, bold stout that’s either a delight or a daring challenge, depending on your taste.
  • Vibrant Seltzers: Sugar-free, low-calorie seltzers in electric hues, like neon blue berry and bright pink watermelon.

And if you find a favorite, you’re in luck—grab cans from their beer fridge or fill a growler to take home.

Signature Cocktails with a Twist

Not a beer fan? No problem. Voodoo Brewing Co.’s cocktails are as bold as its brews. These drinks are fun, flavorful, and made with a little “voodoo magic.”

Cocktail Highlights:

  • Honeydew Pear Mule: A fruity twist on the classic mule.
  • Cucumber Gin Gimlet: Cool and refreshing with a crisp finish.
  • Maple Manhattan: A sweet-and-smoky nod to tradition.
  • Mango Ginger Margarita: A tropical delight with a zesty kick.

Food to Satisfy Every Appetite

Pair your drinks with a menu that offers everything from elevated bar food to lighter fare.

Fan Favorites:

  • Caesar Wrap: A portable take on the classic salad, complete with croutons, wrapped in a sundried tomato tortilla.
  • Truffle Pomme Frites: Fries tossed in truffle oil, parmesan cheese, and rosemary.
  • Smokehouse Mac: Cheesy, smoky, and oh-so-comforting, topped with bacon, barbecue sauce, and tang bang onions.

The menu also includes wings, burgers, sandwiches (called “handies”), kids’ meals, and even non-alcoholic desserts like ice cream handies.

Pittsburgh

Amy and myself just came back from a trip that included Pittsburgh, and we will be likely going their labor day weekend – taking in a Pirates game, as well as checking out several breweries (I’ll be enjoying the drinks while the mom to be will be enjoying the food).

Pittsburgh is a great city with a lot (read: a ton) of breweries, so if you are ever able to – make sure to get out there and check out the city and all the great breweries! You won’t be disappointed.

Voodoo Brewery Lancaster is Closing https://thebeerthrillers.com/2020/06/11/voodoo-brewery-lancaster-is-closing/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=voodoo-brewery-lancaster-is-closing Thu, 11 Jun 2020 16:42:31 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=3322
Voodoo Brewery Lancaster

In more upsetting, and disappointing local (Central PA) news, Voodoo Brewery Lancaster has announced that they will be closing up shop. At 11AM this morning (June 11th, 2020), they released the following statement on their Facebook page:

Hello to all our fans in Eastern PA.

It is with heavy hearts today that we are announcing that we will be not be reopening our Lancaster Tap Room. We were so excited to partner with Cabalar Meat Co for a truly unique dining and beer experience, and want to say thank you to the team at Cabalar Meat Co and all of the fans who supported us. Our beer will still be available in many other bars, restaurants and stores in Eastern PA, and be on the lookout for something pretty cool going into the space at Cabalar Meat Co.

Cheers!

VooDoo Lancaster

There has been talk of this happening recently in the ‘rumors’ of the beer internet, mainly due to licensing at their location, and talk of them moving the license to another location. So this isn’t completely surprising news, especially given the current climate due to COVID-19 / coronavirus. But it is still upsetting and deeply disappointing for those in the area.

Many on Facebook and Twitter have commented how disappointing this was; how they enjoyed the location; enjoyed the butchery as well as the brewery; how they were excited to try the place out; or that they just loved Voodoo Brewery and was happy to see them so close in practically their backyard.

Voodoo has its main brewery located in Meadville, Pennsylvania. To be precise: 215 Arch St. Meadville, Pennsylvania 16335.

The Lancaster Voodoo Brewery was located at 325 N Queen St. Lancaster, Pennsylvania 17603. For myself, according to Google Maps – the Voodoo Brewery was 26 miles away; where as the Meadville location is 203 miles away. A bit of a difference. From the Lancaster Brewery to the Meadville Brewery the distance is 300 Miles; or roughly 4 Hours and 49 Minutes. Thats quite a hike!

This is definitely unfortunate news, and we will keep everyone posted and updated about changes, news, and possible new locations for Voodoo Brewery, as well as other breweries in the area. Sadly, I feel with the COVID-19 / coronavirus, that we might be seeing more breweries closing up shop rather than opening (or in some cases; even reopening) or expanding.

You can find news on other breweries closing or not expanding that we’ve covered here:

For some good news:

As always, thanks for reading, we’re close to getting back to some semblance of the old normal. I was even at Boneshire Brew Works, drinking out on their patio yesterday (look for a beer review from them shortly). Its amazing how exciting it was just to be sitting out drinking at a brewery again.

Cheers everyone! Stay safe and sane!
