As the Craft Brewers Conference comes to an end, its time to announce the winners of the World Beer Cup 2023. This article is a list of the Pennsylvania breweries who won.

The First Annual Battle of the Beers

And So It’s Completed…

And with that, we have our first (hopefully annual) battle of the beer champion. This was a month long, knock out, drag out fight. With the finals seeing a David vs. Goliath battle. A small time, one year old brewery with their plucky upstart ‘Walking on Clouds’ taking on an internet darling, a colossal brewery, a behemoth, a tyrannical monster…. Pseudo Sue.

Who walked away the victor?

…..Not yet…. (unless you just scroll down to see.)

First Things First

Let’s take a look back at how we got here:

The Competitors

Who all was involved in this tournament (if you are just tuning in – or want a recap):

Below is a straight list of the 32 breweries with their flagship beers, with their Untappd rating, and the order they are ranked in the tournament:

  30. New Belgium – Fat Tire (3.58)
  31. Yuengling – Lager (3.49)
  32. Newcastle – Brown Ale (3.39)

The Selection Process

The selection process was mostly arbitrary (welcome to the world of The Beer Thrillers). Generally, there were a few simple rules I followed:

  • It had to be a beer I’ve had before
  • It had to have at least a 3 star rating on Untappd
  • I tried to pick some well known – nation wide distributed beers, some local breweries (local to us here at The Beer Thrillers), and a few “high end” / “high quality” / “top of the line” brewery flagships.

This is clearly not a list of beers based on any kind of science. This is purely meant for fun and just to have a good time. Please leave all feelings and egos at the door.

Final Two Competitors

The final two competitors saw Toppling Goliath’s Pseudo Sue take on Von C Brewing’s Walking on Clouds. This was certainly an epic show down, especially going into the last day where it became an all out brawl, with the full followship of both breweries getting involved. The votes and the stats jumped yesterday, going into the late evening hours until midnight (EST) when the voting ended.

Let’s take a closer look at both:

Toppling Goliath – Pseudo Sue

Pseudo Sue:
Style: Pale Ale – American
ABV: 5.8%
IBU: 45
Untappd Description: This Citra hop pale ale is delicate in body with a mild bitterness in the finish. Ferocious hop aromas of citrus and mango give a refreshing taste that is bright with just enough bite!
Current Untappd Ranking (7.29.22): 4.13
Total Ratings: 206,890

Toppling Goliath:

Toppling Goliath Brewing Company is a regional brewery from Decorah Iowa. They have 109 unique beers (according to Untappd) with a global average rating of 4.15 (as of 7.29.22). They have over 1 million ratings. Their Untappd description reads: Named 2021 US Beer Open Grand National Champions. Founded in 2009 in beautiful Decorah, Iowa. World-renown for IPAs and barrel-aged stouts, distributing to over 30 states and brewing more than 35 beers. TG prides it’s-self in crafting truly top-shelf beer and is honored to be growing with the support of its many customers worldwide.

Von C Brewing – Walking on Clouds

Von C Brewing’s Walking on Clouds entered the tournament ranked #9 out of 32 with an overall (at the day of the tournament’s start) Untappd rating of 3.94.

Past Battle of the Beers Articles

How did we get to the Finals:

Ok… Enough Already

Ok, let’s get to it…. start the drum roll…. let’s announce our First Annual Battle of the Beers Champion!

The 2022 Battle of the Beers Inaugural Champion Is…..

Toppling Goliath – Pseudo Sue

Coming in with a whopping 810 votes to be the first Battle of the Beers champion is….. Toppling Goliath’s Pseudo Sue!

They were the number 4 seed (out of 32) coming into the matchup. They defeated Von C Brewing’s Walking on Clouds 810 to 642.

It was an amazing battle by both breweries and frankly they both deserve to win. Both are fantastic amazing beers. It was a strong, hard fought battle, and the competition was great, the breweries were great, and everyone following along was great!

Wrap It Up

Let’s wrap this up.

This article would have been up sooner, but I donated blood today at 7:30AM and had errands to run. Amy and I are doing a three day trip of Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and Canton, so packing and getting things ready has been a priority as well.

I fully intend to do a bigger article discussing the full tournament and Pseudo Sue’s big win. We’ll crunch the numbers and run the stories and give everyone a big write up on it.

But firstly, let me just say thank you to everyone involved and who voted. A big round of applause for the breweries and the beers, especially the winner – Pseudo Sue – as well as the runner up – Walking on Clouds. Both are amazing beers, try your damnedest to get out there and try them. You won’t be disappointed with either – nor will you be with either brewery.

Thank You For Reading

As I said, Amy and I are going on a three – day trip today. I will have an article up shortly discussing the full itinerary and what all we are gonna do. But its going to be a great fun trip! (We’ll be in Pittsburgh, Canton for the NFL Football Hall of Fame, Cleveland for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and a Guardians – Astros game). And then we’ll be popping in Pittsburgh again on the way back through. So don’t worry – there will be plenty of great breweries that we will be hitting up, I can promise you all that!

Thanks for reading! Sorry this was a bit late, and a quicker read, this morning has been kicking my ass, between trying to get ready, donating blood, only getting three hours of sleep, mowing, and a slew of other activities (like my daughter Mara getting her back to school stuff), etc.

Thanks For reading!

Cheers All!

The Finals of the Battle of the Beers (2022)

The Finals

Ok here it is! We’ve finally reached the finals…. and are you ready for it? It’s a true David vs. Goliath match up here! (Ahahaha…. you’ll get the pun in just a bit.) The competition has been dwindled down from 32 beers (and their respective breweries) down to just 2 remaining competitors.

The gladiator pit is filled with the broken glass, crumpled cans, kicked kegs, dented half kegs, and smashed crowlers. Thirty “losers” lay littered about the grounds, of this beer soaked gladiatorial pit, with just two standing high – currently. For there can only be one in this beer – twisted Highlander.

Who are the final two beasts in this battle? Who is the David and the Goliath I referenced earlier? Well… one is literally a Goliath…. its Toppling Goliath’s Pseudo Sue. Wrap Up

Thank you all for checking out the results and participating in the tournament. This is our first Battle of the Beers tournament, but our third tournament overall (after having done a Battle of the Breweries (2021) and a Battle of the Breweries (2022)). These are a lot of fun to run and manage, and its great to see the participation of the fans and community. So I just want to thank everyone for coming to The Beer Thrillers blog and participating in the tournament. You guys make all this happen and without you there would be no tournaments or The Beer Thrillers in general. So we greatly appreciate all your support and everything.

The Battle of the Beers – The Final Four – Results (2022) https://thebeerthrillers.com/2022/07/29/the-battle-of-the-beers-the-final-four-results-2022/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=the-battle-of-the-beers-the-final-four-results-2022 Fri, 29 Jul 2022 14:43:44 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=9584
The Battle of the Beers – The Final Four (Results Page) (2022)

Then There Was Four… And Now There is Two

Another round of hard fought battles is over, and the dust is settling this fine Friday morning. Where once stood four gladiators now stands two, and the broken glass and cans of the other two lay at their feet (…or base of their bottle). We are now at our final two competitors, the finals, the end, the completion of this long and grueling, arduous competition – all to declare who is the toughest, the strongest, the most fittest of thirty two flagship beers practically chosen at random by myself.

Results

Let’s dive into the Final Four’s results:

  • (4) Toppling Goliath – Pseudo Sue (with 31 votes) defeated (1) The Alchemist – Heady Topper (with 12 votes)
  • (9) Von C Brewing – Walking on Clouds (with 120 votes) defeated (18) Troegs Independent Craft Brewing – Perpetual IPA (with 21 votes)

Statistics

  • Toppling Goliath was the only upset victory this week – with a (4) over a (1).
  • Von C Brewing was the only favorite victory this week – with a (9) over a (18).
  • Von C Brewing’s Walking on Clouds had the most votes again this week with 120 votes.
  • This was 99 votes over Troegs Brewing’s Perpetual IPA.

The Finals

This makes us all set for the finals now, and what a finals its looking to be!

It will pit Toppling Goliath’s Pseudo Sue vs. Von C Brewing’s Walking on Clouds. Its looking to be a true “David vs. Goliath” match up here (ahahahaha…. get the pun…. get it? ….Do you see it? Get it? …Sigh.)

The voting article will be posted shortly. All prior rules still apply for the Finals. You can vote daily, you can share the post to get as many people voting as possible, etc. The voting will end on August 4th at 11:59PM EST. (So next Thursday into Friday at Midnight it will end.)

Past Battle of the Beers Articles

How did we get to the Finals:

Some Recent Articles of Note

Thanks For Reading

Tomorrow we will be down in Newfreedom for a memorial service for my Aunt Linda. After that, we might be going to various places, not sure. This weekend is also the Black Flag Brewing Company’s 6th Anniversary, so we might be stopping there. There is also the Schulkyll Brewfest this weekend. So might try and get there for that too. I might be going with Drew or Amy today to the Black Flag Brewery, if not today, then possibly tomorrow after the service. But as everything else, the future is fluid, so who knows. Thanks for reading!

Well, wherever we’ll end up, ya’ll will know it!

Cheers!

The Battle of the Beers – Round of 4 (2022) https://thebeerthrillers.com/2022/07/22/the-battle-of-the-beers-round-of-4-2022/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=the-battle-of-the-beers-round-of-4-2022 Fri, 22 Jul 2022 16:05:00 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=9553
The Battle of the Beers (2022) Continues With the Final Four

It’s the Final (….four)…. Count Down

Its the final four…. count down. Four flagship beers remain. Four breweries who brewed those flagship beers remain. They hail from all parts of… well… the United States, and they have all entered into this gladiator pit (pretty much unwillingly, I kind of just picked them, threw them in there, and you guys voted on them like a bunch of Roman Emperors, determining who survives and who doesn’t). But anyway, these fine gladiators come here to duke it out, and see who goes on to our finals next week.

Yes, that means its the Final Four! And basically the semi finals of the tournament! The four breweries that remain are:

  • The Alchemist (from Stowe, Vermont)
  • Toppling Goliath (from Decorah, Iowa)
  • Von C Brewing (from Norristown, Pennsylvania)
  • Troegs Independent Craft Brewing (from Hershey, Pennsylvania)

The Final Four Competitors

Its interesting to note the final four that we have. The Alchemist and Toppling Goliath are giants in the feed, well known from across the country. Troegs Independent Craft Brewing is a regional staple in the eastern area with a decently large distribution footprint – especially well known in Pennsylvania (its the second largest brewery in the state), and there is the little David in this fight – Von C Brewing out of Norristown, PA. Who have been on a hot streak, as a new brewery, wracking up wins and records all over the place. The biggest – as far as we are concerned here at The Beer Thrillers – is they won this year’s Battle of the Breweries (2022). You can see their win here: And the Winner Is….. (2022).

So this is certainly a heated up final four. Two industry giants and favorites, a brewery that is a regional giant and is celebrating their 25th anniversary, and a brewery just over a year old that keeps winning awards and medals left and right. So who becomes the true winner? We shall see! You guys will decide!

Who Did We Lose?

Who did we lose and that didn’t make it from the Elite Eight to the Final Four? (Because sadly, somebody’s bottle has to be broken.) They were:

  • (14) Rotunda Brewing Company – Annville IPA
  • (23) Tattered Flag – TMI PA
  • (3) Lawson’s Finest Liquids – Sip of Sunshine
  • (11) Rubber Soul Brewing Company – Dropout

How Did They Get Here?

Voting

The remaining schedule of voting for the tournament goes as such:

  • Round of 4July 22nd – July 28th at 11:59PM (EST)
  • Round of 2July 29th – August 4th at 11:59PM (EST)

You can vote daily, so be sure to bookmark and come back and vote each day. Also be sure to share this post on all of your different social media platforms to get your friends and fans to vote as well.

So let’s vote:

Things Are Certainly Heating Up

And I don’t just mean the temperature – which it is that too (it has been a scorcher of a week here in Central PA). But we are down to the Final Four of the tournament, so we have just two rounds left. This week and next week’s finals heads up matchup. Who will walk away top dog / top beer / top whatever? You guys will decide!

Wrap Up

Thank you all for checking out the results and participating in the tournament. This is our first Battle of the Beers tournament, but our third tournament overall (after having done a Battle of the Breweries (2021) and a Battle of the Breweries (2022)). Lots and Lots and Lots and Lots Going On

There is always lots and lots and lots and lots going on here at The Beer Thrillers. Please check out the site, look at all the different articles by numerous writers (myself – B. Kline, Josh – J. Doncevic, Default Brewing, Karl’s great homebrewing article, Amy’s articles, etc.). With us being halfway through the year, we have a new slew of content that is out, or is coming out shortly (list articles and the such), so be on the lookout for that. Also the layout should soon be getting a change, so that will hopefully make the site look nicer. (Excuse the dust while we work.)

There is always beer reviews, brewery reviews, travelogues, and news so always be checking back to see that. Also look for upcoming podcasts, and even YouTube videos soon. And if you check out our Facebook page, you’ll see that I occasionally do live video game streaming with our friend Drew over at Knights of Nostalgia.

Thanks For Reading

Thank you all so very much for participating in the tournament! Hope your having as much of a blast in it as we are running it here! Try and stay cool and drink some good beers on this hot day!

Cheers!

The Round of 8 of The Battle of the Beers (2022)

We’re Moving On

The competition is slimming down again, getting hardened by steel and flint, and moving on. The victorious are once again trudging into battle whilst the defeated head home with their heads low – some on the backs of their shields, spears across their chest.

That’s right, we’re now onto the next round and stage of The Battle of the Beers. We’ve gone from 32 competitors to 16, and now to 8. The battle is beginning to really heat up as we start getting closer and closer to the true champion.

Might this all be hyperbole? 100%…. but either way ‘ya’ gotta love it as we forge on in this great testament of will and power and hop and barley and malt!

So let’s see who all is left!

The Final 8 Competitors

So let’s see who these tried and true, tested and vetted warriors of the Beer Gladiator Pits are:

  • The Alchemist (with Heady Topper)
  • Rotunda Brewing (with Annville IPA)
  • Tattered Flag (with TMI PA)
  • Toppling Goliath (with Pseudo Sue)
  • Lawson’s Finest Liquids (with Sip of Sunshine)
  • Von C Brewing (with Walking on Clouds)
  • Rubber Soul (with Dropout)
  • Troeg’s Brewing (with Perpetual IPA)

  • Round of 2July 29th – August 4th at 11:59PM (EST)

The rules are relatively simple. Each day you can vote (so make sure you come back daily to vote), just open up this article and go through the voting block clicking on the beers you want to win. You can share and post this on your various social medias to help the beers you want to win. (In fact…. I highly recommend you share this article as often and in as many places as possible. Hell, even post a screenshot of it on your library’s community board… why not?!)

Enough Yammering…. Lets Vote!

Alright, alright, I hear ya… enough yammering. Let’s get right down to it and vote:

Remember – you can vote daily. So be sure to come back and keep voting!

Blog Update

There’s been quite some news here for us at The Beer Thrillers. Amy and I are expecting our first daughter (together) (I have three daughters with my ex – wife). She is due in November.

But we do have lots of stuff on the lookout. We are still working on getting the podcast set up and to go live (or recorded) with that soon. We are also looking at getting a new layout for the blog, that will hopefully look a lot nicer, be smoother, and easier to use.

We also have some great new articles I am hoping that will be all dropping in the next few days – including a few brewery reviews / visits as well as getting some beer reviews done (I know its been a little bit of a while), as well as several news articles. We also have some big articles that will be dropping as well. (Also, hope you all like ‘list’ articles, because we have several with it being the halfway point of the year. I know a lot of blogs and pages are doing similar, and we’ve decided to follow suit. So, hopefully that will rank up there with some stuff you all will enjoy.) Lots of these should be up now, or up in the near future. As well as several articles about the US Beer Open Competition. (Like Wallenpaupack Brewing’s two gold medals, Wolf Brewing’s one gold medal, and Sun King Brewery winning Grand National.)

Amy is also transitioning to her new job, so she is a bit busy, but will be getting back into the flow here at TBT – HQ (The Beer Thrillers HQ…. like I said…. name in progress.)

But thank you all for all the continued support you are showing us here at the blog and our social medias. It really means a lot. We just hit 2K followers on Facebook and we’ve been hovering right around 500 followers on Instagram. So thank you all very much for following us! We appreciate all the love and support so very very very very much!

As always, we are looking to grow, expand, and innovate here at The Beer Thrillers. These tournaments are a blast to run, and I hope everyone is enjoying them just as much as we are hosting them. We are always on the lookout for writers as well and other people who would like to become involved with The Beer Thrillers, if you are interested, you can contact us directly at thebeerthrillers@gmail.com and we will get back to you.

Thanks for reading!

Thanks For Reading

Once again – as always – thanks for reading. I hope you are enjoying the tournament, as well as the wrap up and heads up on the state of the blog. (Some of that was copy and pasted from the Round of 32 post, but it holds true all the same.) Lots of stuff going on here at the blog, both behind the scenes, and in front of your screens. So keep your eyeballs peeled… well… that just sounds nasty… whatever… just stay on the lookout!

This tournament has been a blast so far, and I hope you are all enjoying it as well. Keep voting and sharing! We are coming down to the wire, lets see who wins our first Annual Battle of the Beers!

Cheers All!

The Battle of the Breweries (2022) – Full Recap https://thebeerthrillers.com/2022/04/20/the-battle-of-the-breweries-2022-full-recap/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=the-battle-of-the-breweries-2022-full-recap Wed, 20 Apr 2022 13:03:40 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=9154
The Battle of the Breweries (2022) – Bigger, Bolder, Badder – and the winner of the tournament – Von C Brewing

Winner

First thing’s first, lets get right to it and congratulate Von C Brewing for winning the tournament! It might only be the second tournament we’ve done, but its been the biggest, the boldest, and the baddest one we’ve run… and they absolutely nailed it!

They had some tough competition to go through too, so it was no easy breeze for them. Let’s take a look at who all they went through on their path to victory:

  • Round 1: Von C Brewing defeated Homaide Brewing (105 votes to 16)
  • Round 2: Von C Brewing defeated RAR Brewing (180 votes to 38)
  • Round 3: Von C Brewing defeated Dogfish Head Craft Brewery (239 votes to 74)
  • Round 4: Von C Brewing defeated Mad Chef Brewing (288 votes to 23)
  • Round 5: Von C Brewing defeated Human Robot Beer (332 votes to 29)

And then in the finals they defeated:

  • Axemann Brewery (429 votes)
  • Gearhouse Brewing (682 votes)
  • Bunnyman Brewing (3582 votes)

With a total of 3824 votes, Von C Brewing won first place in the tournament!

They went through a tournament defeating two top Maryland Breweries (Homaide and RAR Brewing), a craft beer legend from Delaware (Dogfish Head Craft Brewery), giants from Pennsylvania (Mad Chef Brewing and Human Robot), and then edged out two other great PA Breweries (Axemann Brewery and Gearhouse Brewing) and a Virginia Brewery (Bunnyman Brewing) in the finals.

So another “hip hip hooray” for Von C Brewing!

Second Place

Bunnyman Brewing is declared our second place brewery from the tournament (second most votes in the Finals Fatal Fourway). They had a heck of a tournament run themselves!

  • Round 1: Bunnyman Brewing defeated Logyard Brewing (108 votes to 29)
  • Round 2: Bunnyman Brewing defeated Midnight Run Brewing (135 votes to 62)
  • Round 3: Bunnyman Brewing defeated Cartel Brewing and Blending (172 votes to 43)
  • Round 4: Bunnyman Brewing defeated Pineknotter Brewing (528 votes to 189)
  • Round 5: Bunnyman Brewing defeated Rough Edges Brewing (2631 votes to 2479)

They came in second place in the finals fourway with 3582 votes. That is a wonderful showing, and as you can see, their fifth round was a challenge and hard fought battle just to get to the finals for them!

Third Place

Gearhouse Brewing Company from Chambersburg, PA came in as our third place brewery. They had a strong showing in the tournament as well. (Really, any brewery in the final four had a strong showing.) Their competition throughout the tournament was:

  • Round 1: Gearhouse Brewing defeated Wolf Brewing (80 votes to 35)
  • Round 2: Gearhouse Brewing defeated Wheatland Springs Farm and Brewery (75 votes to 27)
  • Round 3: Gearhouse Brewing defeated Hidden River Brewing (69 votes to 20)
  • Round 4: Gearhouse Brewing defeated Ever Grain Brewing (94 votes to 41)
  • Round 5: Gearhouse Brewing defeated Troegs Independent Craft Brewing (151 votes to 47)

Gearhouse Brewing received 682 votes in the finals to come in third place.

Fourth Place

Certainly not last, and with a strong hard showing for a small and fun brewery, Axemann Brewery. Just like the other three competitors in the finals, they outlasted 31 breweries in their conference, and a total of 124 non-finalist breweries (128 breweries competed this year). Axemann Brewery’s road to the finals went through:

  • Round 1: Axemann Brewery defeated Moo – Duck Brewery (120 votes to 85)
  • Round 2: Axemann Brewery defeated Jackie O’s Brewery (100 votes to 40)
  • Round 3: Axemann Brewery defeated Boneshire Brew Works (156 votes to 56)
  • Round 4: Axemann Brewery defeated Desperate Times Brewery (197 votes to 61)
  • Round 5: Axemann Brewery defeated 1787 Brewing (256 votes to 50)

Axemann Brewery received 429 votes in the finals for fourth place.

The Biggest, Boldest, Baddest Tournament

This was only our second tournament, but as I said, it was our biggest, boldest, and baddest one yet. Our first tournament saw 48 breweries compete for title of ‘The Battle of the Breweries’ and saw ‘The Isle of Que Brewing’ win our inaugural tournament. You can read the results of that tournament here: The Battle of the Breweries (2021) – And the Winner is….

Champions

I have just spent the better part of two hours doing Google searches and working on Canva to try make ‘championship banners’ (you wouldn’t believe how frustratingly difficult that all is!), and made up this little graphic for our tournament’s champions:

The Battle of the Breweries Champions

As you can tell… my ‘graphic’ skills aren’t the best, but I am working on it (and Amy will be head of the marketing and graphics department for the blog once she is done with her Walk MS season). So hopefully our graphics, images, logos, etc., will all get a lot better in the near future. But in the meantime enjoy what skillset I have and work with! (Hey, its still better than the stuff I did circa 2019 The Beer Thrillers!)

Anyway…

Congratulations to both of our champions – Von C Brewing (2022) and Isle of Que Brewing (2021). Who will win in 2023? Can’t wait to find out!

Result Links

I was going to break this post down to the level of “there was X amount of votes” per round and everything, but figured it was all mostly covered in previous articles, and only the most number based nerds would care anyway. But for those curious and interested in all of the results pages, you can view them here:

And finally:

Thanks For Reading

As always, thanks for visiting. Congratulations to all the breweries involved in the tournament – particularly those who made the final four, and especially our 2022 champion – Von C Brewing. Hope everyone had fun with the tournament. I had a blast running it. I’m already thinking about 2023’s and how to make it different and better!

Cheers Everyone!

…….

…………..

………………….

Von C Brewing Company

VON C BREWING COMPANY out of Norristown, Pennsylvania!

Congratulations Von C Brewing and all of the brewers, staff, workers, and fans who helped vote, share, and come to the blog.

Thank You

First, I’d like to give a big shout out to everyone! I mean – absolutely everyone! From all the different breweries, staff, workers, fans, and readers of the blog. You have made this a tremendous success. The tournament this year totally blew away the tournament last year, both in volume of results, number of breweries involved, in shares, likes, comments, in clicks and views and visitors to the blog, to every possible metric I could use. Wow. I just want to say thank you to everyone.

Which leads me to the next point….

Blog Crashing

For the first time in the history of the tournament – and in the blog itself – the site has crashed due to amount of people visiting it. This is one of those “bad good things”. Its bad that its crashed, and I apologize to all those who were attempting to vote and it was down. (Difficulties with the host being a weekend, and it being a holiday weekend meant slower times getting them to respond, and literally had me on the phone waiting for over an hour.)

So needless to say, I was disappointed with the crash and the downtime, but was grateful for what that meant – so many visitors to the site! So congratulations to everyone who was able to crash the site (haha…..)!

Quick Recap

I’m going to do a quick recap of the finals and announce the winner with this article. And then do a full, big, recap, award ceremony, finals, whatever you want to call it on Monday.

Due to the downtime, I had extended the tournament until this morning ending it effectively at noon (11:59AM EST) (so technically – morning). With having to do some mowing, and family obligations (my sister was throwing my nephew’s 7th birthday party), things got a bit wonky for the day, and I didn’t quite complete things like I wanted. (Tried to get this recap article done by 2PM… started it… but didn’t get a chance to finish it until now.)

So enough rambling, lets get to the recap.

Lead Up

Coming into the finals fatal four-way, we had a winner from each conference. And those winners were:

  • Brock Lesnar Conference: Axemann Brewery
  • Roman Reigns Conference: Von C Brewing
  • Ronda Rousey Conference: Gearhouse Brewing
  • Charlotte Flair Conference: Bunnyman Brewing

All four breweries did a tremendous job to get to the finals. Each conference was 32 breweries (for a grand total of 128 breweries). Meaning just to get to the finals, each brewery beat out 31 other breweries. That’s no small feat.

Results

Like true pro wrestling, in a fatal four-way they often do it as an “elimination match”, meaning one wrestler after another is eliminated until you have the winner. Technically, we didn’t do eliminations in the voting, but for the results here, I am going to list the breweries in order of their “elimination” (or placing).

  • Eliminated first: Gearhouse Brewing (429 votes) (4th place)
  • Eliminated second: Axemann Brewery (682 votes) (3rd place)
  • Last elimination: Bunnyman Brewing (3582 votes) (2nd place)

Winner: Von C Brewing (3824 votes) (1st place)

For a total of: 8517 votes. That is an amazing total number of votes!

The breakdown for voting percentages goes:

  • Gearhouse Brewing (429 / 8517 votes) – 5.04%
  • Axemann Brewery (682 / 8517 votes) – 8.03%
  • Bunnyman Brewing (3582 / 8517 votes) – 42.05%
  • Von C Brewing (3824 / 8517 votes) – 44.89%

It was extremely close Thursday, Friday, and the bonus Saturday time between Bunnyman Brewing and Von C Brewing. It was anybody’s ballgame / race / competition / brewing duel to the death.

But once again, I want to congratulate Von C Brewing as being the champion!

Thank You Everyone

Just to reiterate, thank you everyone for visiting, voting, sharing, liking, commenting, and discussing the 2nd Battle of the Breweries. Look out for the full results on Monday, where I’ll break down the full tournament. (It will most likely get posted after I come home from work Monday, so later in the evening, around 8-10PM…. possibly Tuesday morning.)

Again, congratulations to all four final breweries. They all did amazing in the tournament. Especially Bunnyman Brewing and Von C Brewing, putting up some amazing numbers. And obviously, huge congrats go to Von C for winning it! They now will live on in the annals of the Battle of Breweries here on The Beer Thrillers, as being the second ever champion! (First champion was The Isle of Que Brewing).

The Battle of the Breweries (2022) – Conference Finals Results https://thebeerthrillers.com/2022/04/08/the-battle-of-the-breweries-2022-conference-finals-results/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=the-battle-of-the-breweries-2022-conference-finals-results Fri, 08 Apr 2022 12:08:54 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=9119
The Battle of the Breweries (2022) – Bigger, Bolder, Badder

Conference Finals

Things certainly heated up in the conference finals! In fact thats an understatement really! We are now down to our final four breweries (competitors) who will face off in a fatal four – way for the tournament final! Unlike past rounds where I did a results post for each conference, but with this round just being one match for each I feel it would be better to consolidate into one post.

Firstly, I want to say congratulations to all eight of the breweries that even made it this far. As I discussed in the rules and opening article – March Madness (2022): Bigger, Bolder, Badder – this year’s tournament included 128 breweries! Thats a lot of breweries! So to even reach the final eight of this tournament is a big accomplishment for all of the breweries involved.

And all eight of these breweries are slinging some excellent brews and pure fire for everyone to drink. So if you are looking for a list of breweries I’d recommend – all eight of these breweries would certainly make that list. You can’t go wrong with any of them.

The final eight includes:

  • Axemann Brewery
  • 1787 Brewing Company
  • Human Robot
  • Von C Brewing
  • Troegs Independent Craft Brewing
  • Gearhouse Brewing
  • Rough Edges Brewing
  • Bunnyman Brewing

Results

Ok, lets get to the results and see who moves on to the final four death match to determine who is truly the best brewery of this tournament! So we now have the final four of this tournament of arbitrarily picked breweries (breweries that I – B. Kline – The Beer Thrillers – have visited), but none of these breweries are arbitrary! They all battled hard to get here, so let’s see who did it and how!

Brock Lesnar Conference

  • (24) Axemann Brewery (256 votes) defeated (25) 1787 Brewing Company (50 votes)

Roman Reigns Conference

  • (19) Von C Brewing (332 votes) defeated (4) Human Robot (29 votes)

Ronda Rousey Conference

  • (24) Gearhouse Brewing (151 votes) defeated (20) Troegs Independent Craft Brewing (47 votes)

Charlotte Flair Conference

  • (23) Bunnyman Brewing (2,631 votes) defeated (5) Rough Edges Brewing (2,479 votes)

Factoids and Notes

That had to be the most insane round of voting in the extensive (…two year) history of this tournament. The Charlotte Flair conference has resulted in the site hitting its bandwidth and over running its capacity three times, blowing up my phone and e-mail with alerts as I scrambled to the host to get it all fixed to get it back up. What an outpouring of voting! Its a shame the two couldn’t reach and compete in the finals, but both Bunnyman Brewing and Rough Edges Brewing definitely showed up and voted! I’m sure both will do amazing in next year’s tournament!

  • Ironically, Von C Brewing will be the lowest seed in the final four-way with their 19 seed. The other breweries will be a 24 (Axemann Brewery), a 24 (Gearhouse Brewing), and a 23 (Bunnyman Brewing).
  • Outside of the finals of last year’s tournament, this is the most votes any two breweries have received. (In the final triple threat of last year’s tournament – Isle of Que brewing received 3,744 votes, runner up Rubber Soul Brewing Company received 3,353, and third place Troegs Independent Craft Brewing received 90 votes.) (For more information: And the Winner of the Battle of the Breweries 2021 Is…..)
  • With the elimination of Troegs Independent Craft Brewing, there is no longer any competing breweries from last year’s finals Triple Threat.
  • Despite having the most votes of the tournament (thus far, for any round) – Bunnyman Brewing did not have the largest margin of victory. That went to Von C Brewing with 303 votes over Human Robot.
  • Other margins of victory are: Axemann Brewery defeated 1787 Brewing by 206 votes, Gearhouse Brewing defeated Troegs Brewing by 104 votes, and Bunnyman defeated Rough Edges by 152 votes.
  • The locations for the final four are:
    • Axemann Brewery: Bellefonte, PA
    • Von C Brewing: Norristown, PA
    • Gearhouse Brewing: Chambersburg, PA
    • Bunnyman Brewing: Fairfax, VA
  • The combined total of votes this round was: 5,975.
  • Will that be enough votes to win the tournament? Last year’s finals triple threat match had over 7,000 total votes between its three competitors.

Look for more information on the final four coming soon

I will be doing some articles on each of the final four breweries during the week of the voting, so be on the lookout for those articles. Hopefully this will give anyone unfamiliar with the breweries a chance to read and learn about them and hopefully eventually get to visit these great breweries! Last year’s final triple threat had Isle of Que, Troegs Independent Craft Brewing, and Rubber Soul Brewing Company. After their win, the Isle of Que brewers and owners came down to visit and hang out for the day with Rubber Soul Brewing Company, which Josh Doncevic got to sit in with them and hang out and had a blast.

So be on the lookout for more news and articles on the different breweries involved. Perhaps some interviews with the brewers / owners and more.

Voting

The voting for this round won’t be any different than past rounds, except you just have a different format (more options) on the voting. Instead of being a heads up match – 1 v 1 – its now a fatal four-way! The finals are Axeman Brewery vs. Von C Brewing vs. Gearhouse Brewing vs. Bunnyman Brewing in a fatal four-way to determine the true champion of The Battle of the Breweries (2022)!

Voting will start up in about a half hour with its own post and article here on the blog (be on the lookout for it momentarily) (around 8AM). The voting will run until April 15th and 11:59:59 EST. Be sure to get out and vote! You can vote once per day. Be sure to share the post on all of the different social media platforms you use – Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Discord, Untappd, Google Hangouts, Myspace, LinkTree, Snapchat, WhatsApp, OnlyFans, Chalk Boards, White Boards, Post Office Most Wanted Signs, Public Library Community Bulletin Boards, websites, Twitch, your old GeoCities site, Tumbler, Pintrest, Reddit, whatever and wherever you socialize. Let’s see if we can beat last year’s 7,000 vote total!

(Update: I will post a link here to the voting page as well.)
