If you haven’t been to Vandergrift Pennsylvania, or never heard of Allusion Brewing Company, you are certainly doing yourself a disservice. Make your way out there and check them out.

For a full article on them, you can check it out here:

You can visit Allusion Brewing Company in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania at 143 Grant Ave, Vandergrift, PA 15690, just like I did back in November 2020. They have a beautiful little tap room, with a very cool flight system. Their flights are in old book catalogue (from a near by Library that sold their Book Catalogue desk / table / system), and the tasters fit into it perfectly, and all the bartender has to do is pull them out of the card catalogue cabinet / table / desk system thing.

I had an absolute wonderful time when visiting the brewery, and cannot wait to come back out to Vandergrift to get check them out again.

Thank You For Reading

Sorry for getting this posted so much later in the day. My insomnia kicked in hard last night and I didn’t sleep much or well at all last night, factor in a newborn, and you can see why I was dragging butt to start the day. Also early in the morning Amy had a doctor’s appointment so we had that, and then had a friend stop over, and between all of that, household chores, etc, etc, etc, yadda yadda yadda (and no, I didn’t yadda yadda over the best part), this is why its only going up now.

My apologies.

I was also trying to decide how I wanted to write the article and how I wanted to frame it, I think I’ll do the full recap in a different article, and will probably get that posted up tomorrow. So be on the look out for that.

I want to thank all 160 breweries that participated. It was so great seeing all of the breweries get into it over the past month (more than a month’s worth of time!). I hope everyone had a good time. I thought the tournament ran very smoothly.

I want to say congratulations to the four breweries that made it to the finals – Tattered Flag Brewery, Allusion Brewing Company, AleCraft Brewing Company, and Mad Chef Brewing. And especially to Allusion Brewing Company for winning.

Congratulations!

Honestly everyone, if you have a chance to stop out at Allusion Brewing Company in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania, please do. I very highly recommend it!

I’m hoping to get back there this year. Fingers crossed.

Ok everyone, thank you for reading. If you have any comments, questions, concerns, suggestions or anything at all, don’t hesitate to comment.

Grand Opening

Allusion Brewing Company celebrated their Grand Opening in October of 2020 (so shortly before I ended up visiting them in early November of 2020).

They opened their doors on October 10th, 2020 at 11:00 AM. They promoted through YouTube and Twitter at the start, with this YouTube video and Twitter post:

From their Facebook and Twitter accounts back in 2020, they gave a detailed discussion of how they were started, founded, and their opening:

“Allusion Brewing Company was started in 2013. When John Bieranoski and Robert Buchanan started experimenting with home brewing, the resulting beers they created were of surprisingly good quality. As more and more friends and family tried the beers they were creating, the demand for the beers continued to grow. Within a very short time, there were continuous suggestions that a microbrewery should be considered.

While discussing the potential for a microbrewery in 2013, John and Robert were brainstorming ideas for the name of the brewery. Both being advocates of classical literature and history, the names of the beers were always being created with an obvious or sometimes subtle reference to a figure or item from history or literature. When it was apparent that all of our beers names were alluding to literature, film, and pop culture, Allusion Brewing Company seemed a perfect fit!

Nick Bieranoski joined the team early in stages of development. He shares Robert and John’s passion for craft beer and his enthusiasm for the business has expedited the expansion of our brewing capacity and our search for a flagship location.

A suitable location was the next step for the business. Smaller communities surrounding Pittsburgh were the focus of the search. We wanted a smaller community that could support our brewery, but also would benefit from our original goal of giving back to the community. We have toured breweries where a beer is created and proceeds of the beer sales go back to an organization in the community. Our original thought being Allusion Brewing was to donate proceeds to a local library. During our search, a family member of John and Nick suggested we look into a location in Vandergrift, Pa. The building was a fantastic fit for what we wanted our brewery to offer. We learned the building was owned by a non-profit organization in Vandergrift formed to work towards revitalization of the town. The Vandergrift Improvement Program (VIP) has embraced our idea for a brewery and is working with us to get the location up and running.”

Allusion Brewing Company – Facebook

It couldn’t have been easy opening amidst the pandemic and the craziness that was 2020 (and even subsequently the years after). I know locally in October Howling Henry’s and Rubber Soul’s openings didn’t go as planned due to the COVID-19 and coronavirus pandemic. (Rubber Soul was originally planned to open earlier in March – May of 2020… but well… obviously that couldn’t happen at that time.)

(Read: Allusion Brewing Company Opens This Saturday in Vandergrift.)

After months of delays, Vandergrift’s Allusion Brewing Co. will officially open Saturday.

Robert Buchanan and John Bieranoski had planned to open their craft brewery in the spring. They were ready to make Vandergrift a new destination for craft beer enthusiasts. In February, Buchanan said everything was on track for a smooth and successful opening in the spring.

Then the covid-19 pandemic hit the region.

With businesses closed, Buchanan said the final preparations for the brewery were subsequently delayed. They could continue working on improving the building — which required renovations — but they weren’t able to have as many contractors working at once. They couldn’t have inspections performed on plumbing, electricity and other utilities or receive certain equipment on time. Buchanan said it took an extra three months for the brewery to receive a new transformer for their extensive equipment. Without it, they couldn’t even turn on the machinery.

“With everybody being shut down, we had to wait unusually long times for inspections on utilities,” Buchanan said. “(We had) delays, delays, delays, delays getting the power for the equipment. We couldn’t even start brewing in the spring.”

“But we’ve soldiered on and we’re here,” he added.

COVID-19 certainly hampered a lot of things in 2020, especially from March through August. But thankfully Allusion Brewing Company was able to push through, and open, and boost the small town of Vandergrift, Pennsylvania.

“We have a 10-tap system,” Bieranoski said, gesturing to the ornate line of taps behind the brewery’s newly-finished bar. “That’s five staples and that gives me five to play with and have fun.”

Both natives of Western Pennsylvania, they decided to locate their shop in Vandergrift as a way to boost the small community.

“We knew we always wanted to go to a small town that we felt we could help to bring back the vitality to,” Bieranoski said. “We look at Vandergrift as one of those towns that has a lot of potential to become a great small destination town for folks around the Pittsburgh area.”

Allusion Brewing Company Pushed On

In 2021 Allusion Brewing Company was able to celebrate their 1st Anniversary. In 2022 they celebrated their second, and this fall (October) they will be celebrating their third anniversary.

The following is from a news article celebrating their 1st anniversary:

Friends John Bieranoski and Robert Buchanan never planned to open a business during a pandemic.

But the new business owners did, and they not only have survived, they have thrived.

Allusion Brewing Co., the only in-house brewery in Vandergrift, recently celebrated its one-year anniversary.

For Bieranoski, 46, and Buchanan, 44, the milestone has left them feeling grateful and hopeful.

“There’s so many silver linings,” Buchanan said.

Building the Valley: Allusion Brewing celebrates 1st anniversary, expansion plans in Vandergrift

It so great to see this brewery to keep growing and expanding, and making such good quality beers, so happy for them to be celebrating their 3rd anniversary this year.

The duo said opening during covid had them “hoping it could only get better.” They announced expansion plans last week.

Buchanan, of Ross, said they’re in the process of purchasing the building next to Allusion, 143 Grant Ave.

The men said the expansion will grow the seating of 70 to about 140.

“We want to have an open area to accommodate live music. That’s a huge ‘ask’ around here,” Buchanan said.

“We got the brewing equipment in February 2020, and we were super excited, and then March happened, so, yeah, it was a little stressful,” said Buchanan of the decision to open during the covid pandemic.

The two friends began brewing beer themselves in 2013. Their friends and family encouraged them to open a microbrewery someday.

Bieranoski, who serves as head brewer, is studying to earn his master brewer certification.

“The best part has been the support we’ve received throughout the pandemic from the town itself and our customers. A lot of great feedback and a lot of customers that continue to grow with us and enjoy it,” Bieranoski said.

Bieranoski, 46, is a Kiski Area High School alumnus from Allegheny Township. He left his job in the higher education sector to pursue his beer brewing hobby.

“This is confirmation for me,” said Bieranoski of Allusion’s early success.

My Trip to Vandergrift in 2020

Back in 2020 I did a full trip all the way out to Indianapolis by myself to visit the Kurt Vonnegut Library. It was a wonderful trip, I stopped at a lot of breweries through Western PA, Ohio, Indianapolis, even hitting a few in Kentucky and West Virginia. I did a lot of hiking too.

For the quick recap of of the day I visited Allusion Brewing Company, you can find that here:

For the complete, seven day trip recap, you can find that here:

Rock Furnace and Vandergrift

The Kiskiminetas River along Roaring Run Trail

From the article I wrote about my trip to Vandergrift and Allusion Brewing Company:

…[But], there was a nearby hiking trail that went along the creek called Rock Furnace Trail, and I did hike that, and it led out by the river and was a bike / walk path called Roaring Run Trail, and I walked some of that as well. The trails were located in Apollo Pennsylvania, and the river that ran alongside Roaring Run Trail is called Kiskiminetas River. It was a beautiful path (both the Rock Furnace Trail and the Roaring Run Trail), the creek alongside Rock Furnace Trail was pretty, low, meandering, and the Kiskiminetas River was big and roaring with lots of rapids. Unfortunately, no real waterfalls or cascades to see, I assume all of those were at the Jackson Falls that were now on the private property.

After hiking and walking the two trails / paths, it was about 11AM when I left Apollo and made my way to Vandergrift Pennsylvania, for my first brewery stop of day two. Vandergrift was a small, quaint, old time town, that reminded me of the town from Back to the Future. Not sure why, but it just did. I walked a few blocks of it before / after drinking and eating at Allusion Brewing Company.

The Trip to Indianapolis: Day Two: Rock Furnace Trail, Allusion Brewing Company, Couch Brewery, Riverview Park, Hop Farm Brewing Company, and The Meadows Casino and Racetrack.
The bar at Allusion Brewing Company

Then, after getting to Vandergrift, and getting to Allusion Brewing Company:

Allusion Brewing Company is a micro brewery located in Vandergrift Pennsylvania; just outside of Pittsburgh. According to Untappd it has 18 unique beers, with 542 ratings and has an average rating of 3.8. The Untappd description simply reads: “Vandergrift’s hometown brewery.” The oldest created unique beer was on 12.26.13, but then the next wasn’t until 5.24.14. It certainly seems like it’s a relatively new and small brewery, but the beers were great, the building was beautiful, and the staff – Jim – was wonderful. If you get a chance to go by Vandergrift, make sure to stop in, visit Allusion Brewing, and see Jim as bartender, wonderful guy, very nice, informative and talkative.

The Battle of the Breweries (2023)

Here is a look at how Allusion Brewing Company made it to the Finals Fatal Four Way:

In the Group Stage, they were in Group G of the Nugget Conference. Allusion Brewing Company and Elder Pine Brewing and Blending emerged victorious from Group G with 36 and 32 votes respectively.

In the Nugget Conference Round of 16, Allusion Brewing Company (149 votes) defeated Chatty Monks Brewing (99 votes)

In the Nugget Conference Round of 8, Allusion Brewing Company (161 votes) defeated Victory Brewing Company (66 votes).

In the Nugget Conference Final Four, Allusion Brewing Company defeated Bunnyman Brewing. In the second battle we had six seed Allusion Brewing Company defeat the 15 seed Bunnyman Brewing with a total of 283 votes to 169 votes.

In the Nugget Conference Finals we had 6 seed Allusion Brewing Company battling the defending champions (coming in at the 8 seed) Von C Brewing Company. This was another hotly contested battle. This time Allusion Brewing Company emerged victorious with 2255 votes to 1128 votes. Thats a 1127 voter difference.

It was a battle of East Pennsylvania vs. West Pennsylvania (Norristown vs Vandergrift), and this time West Pennsylvania emerged victorious. (Much like the Penquins beat the Flyers last night – as much as that pains me to admit.)

Allusion Brewing Company will be a strong competitor in the Finals Fatal Four Way.

Thank You for Reading

I want to take this opportunity to congratulate the four remaining breweries and wish them all the best of luck. I have enjoyed visiting all four of them, and they certainly all rank very highly in my opinion. (Amy has been to three of them with me, and has loved the three she visited as well.)

It is a tremendous honor to get to this point in the competition – out of 160 breweries, we are down to just 4 remaining. Thats amazing to think about, and shows the love and support these breweries have.

Even the conference runner ups put in a tremendous effort and deserve some recognition too. Cox Brewing Company, Von C Breiwng Company, RAR Brewing, and Boneshire Brew Works are all amazing breweries and have loved my (and Amy as well) visits to their breweries.

As well as I want to take the moment to thank all of the 160 breweries that shared, linked, pushed, and helped make this tournament a rousing success. You all blow me away with the love, support, and energy you pour into this – as well as what you pour into your breweries (and, by relation – what you pour into my glass). Thank you all for everything you’ve done!

This tournament has been a lot of fun, but it is also a lot of work. So thank you to everyone for your patience.

We have also completed the first two Maps of Breweries – Maine and New Hampshire. You can see those here:

We are currently starting to work on creating maps of all the breweries in each state, starting geographically with Maine. So be on the lookout for these great resources to soon be popping up on the blog. Hoping to get a state done every 2 – 4 days. (Some will be quicker and easier than others, but 50 states, plus Washington D.C., will certainly take some time!)

Thank you everyone for reading and please like, share, follow, subscribe, all that good stuff you see at the end of every YouTube video.

The Final Four

This is the final week (the last few days) of voting for The Battle of the Breweries (2023), and I said that one per day, I would cover each of the final contestants. First up is Tattered Flag Brewery and Distillery. Tomorrow we will be covering Allusion Brewing Company, and then AleCraft Brewing Company, and finally Mad Chef Brewing.

You can vote in the tournament here: The Battle of the Breweries (2023) – Finals Fatal Four Way.

In this article we are going to discuss Tattered Flag Brewery and Distillery as a whole, then discuss how they did in this year’s tournament, and offer links to all of our related articles, as well as a history of the tournament this year.

Tattered Flag Brewery and Distillery

Tattered Flag Brewery and Still Works – Veteran Craft

First, let’s start with the words straight from their own mouth, this is how Tattered Flag describes themselves, from their new Tattered Flag Supply Drop website:

What started as a dream in the mountains of Afghanistan has now become a brand that is recognized for quality and innovation. We are honored to have been named “Simply the Best Brewery” (2019/2020) and “Simply the Best Distillery” (2018/2019/2020) in Central Pennsylvania by Harrisburg Magazine. To check our our full website, including the individual pages for each location, please head to www.tatteredflagbsw.com.

Tattered Flag Supply Drop

(Tattered Flag Supply Drop is their Shipping Service Statewide in Pennsylvania.)

Back in September 2016, Cathy Jordan, a journalist for The Burg newspaper ran an article where she interviewed owner Pat Devlin. (Pat Devlin by the way is a US Veteran, and has even done recent deployments, and been featured on FOX News.)

Hope is a tattered flag, according to a verse by Carl Sandburg, a poem that celebrates the American spirit.

According to Pat Devlin, a U.S. Navy veteran, co-owner and CEO of Tattered Flag Brewery and Still Works, a flag—though tattered—still represents what it once stood for, but with character. And it’s that character that Devlin wants to capture within the brewery, which opened in July.

The business idea brewed inside the heads of owners Pat Devlin, Matt Fritz, Tony DeLellis and Ben Ramsay for many years. The guys have known each since high school and share a common interest in craft beer. Their goal is to provide something you can’t find elsewhere.

Hoist the Flag – Tattered Flag Article in The Burg

The article goes on to mostly discuss the building they are currently in, on Union Street in Middletown, Pennsylvania:

“I traveled a lot and visited hundreds of breweries,” he said. “After my wife and I moved back home, we actually looked at six different locations. When I walked into this building, I just knew this was the place. It was unique.”

That unique find was the 105 year-old Elks building, which means the brewery is stocked with nostalgic charm. The Elks moved out years ago, and, since then, the building has housed a variety of businesses, including a sporting goods store, a florist shop, an upscale men’s clothing store and a shoe store. Its basement now hosts an open fermentation space, a brew house, canning line and grain mill. The first floor is a tasting room, while the third floor houses three private party rooms—including the “The Penn State Room” and a three-season room—along with an open kitchen, a stage, seating for more than 240 people and a standing bar.

Hoist the Flag – Tattered Flag Article in The Burg

Tattered Flag Brewery and Distillery in Middletown can be located here: 1 S Union St, Middletown, PA 17057.

In August of 2015, PennLive ran an article about the opening and starting up of Tattered Flag in Middletown.

The project received contingent approval from both the Middletown Industrial and Commercial Development Authority and borough council Monday night after an hour-and-a-half presentation and question/answer session in MCSO Hall.

Ramsay, of York, said they worked with marketing and development experts to find a location. “The three top areas were Marysville, Linglestown and Middletown,” Ramsay said.

“When we came to Middletown, the environment we wanted to create and some of the brand we wanted to be just fit with what we are, especially the inside of that building,” Ramsay said.

“All of us have memories of coming to dollar movies here when we were kids,” Ramsay said, referring to the Elks Theatre in the building, which is not part of the deal.

This will not be “just a small-town microbrewery,” Ramsay said. “There are a lot of things with the building we’re going to do.”

Tattered Flag Brewery & Still Works to be more than ‘small-town microbrewery’

They further discuss the distillery aspects of Tattered Flag:

They see themselves on the leading edge of the distillery movement, while the number of small craft breweries is already booming in the state. There are 22 distilleries in Pennsylvania, Ramsay said, and one is planned for midtown Harrisburg. There are that many craft breweries and brewpubs in York County alone.

As for brewing experience, partner Pat Devlin said their head brewer and assistant brewer each have more than 10 years brewing experience, and the head brewer has 2.5 years’ commercial experience. Devlin said he has four years brewing experience, and nine months apprenticing in Gettysburg.

Tattered Flag Brewery & Still Works to be more than ‘small-town microbrewery’

The article did discuss the four owners and partners of Tattered Flag. As far as I know, now in 2023, the only two that are still partners and owners are Tony and Pat. Their biographies from the article are:

Tony DeLellis of Marysville is an Elizabethtown College graduate who has worked three years in the mortgage industry. He was previously a teacher, and is a regional church planner.

Pat Devlin of Mechanicsburg, who completed a 10-year stint in the Navy last September, is a Penn State graduate. He has six years’ experience in the food industry, and is apprenticing as a brewer in Gettysburg.

Tattered Flag Brewery & Still Works to be more than ‘small-town microbrewery’

Tattered Flag Brewery and Distillery opened their Middletown location in July of 2016, a veteran owned business, and one of only (roughly) 20 or so such breweries in Pennsylvania. They were the first brewery and distillery to open as a single entity.

Tattered Flag Brewery Information

The following comes from Untappd about Tattered Flag Brewery – they are a micro brewery from Middletown, Pennsylvania, with 632 unique beers, and a global average rating of 3.78 (as of 4.12.23). They have 117,996 ratings. Their Untappd description is currently blank.

You can follow them on the following social media pages:

Here is a look at how Tattered Flag Brewery made it to the Finals Fatal Four Way:

In the Chinook Conference Round of 16, Tattered Flag Brewery (122 votes) defeated Dogfish Head Craft Brewery (86 votes).

In the Chinook Conference Round of 8, Tattered Flag (136 votes) defeated Sly Fox Brewing (96 votes).

In the Chinook Conference Final Four:

In the first match up we had the number 9 seed Tattered Flag Brewery and Distillery taking on the number 13 seed Chubby Squirrel Brewing Company. Tattered Flag Brewery came out on top with 140 votes against Chubby Squirrel Brewing Company’s 81 votes.

In the Chinook Conference Finals:

In the Chinook Conference we had number 9 seed – Tattered Flag Brewery and Distillery – going up against fellow veteran owned number 10 seed – Cox Brewing Company. Both breweries have been on a tear in the voting, putting up big numbers in each of the last several rounds.

Tattered Flag Brewery put up an absolute dominant performance this round however. (Looking as dominant as Roman Reigns did last night… ….see what I did there… no? … ok….). Tattered Flag Brewery garnered 9358 votes this round. Besting Cox Brewing Company’s 2414 votes. Thats a 6944 vote difference.

They are going to be very tough to beat in the Finals Fatal Four Way.

Thank You for Reading

I know this post and article was due yesterday, but got very busy with the beautiful weather and the yard work. So the new schedule is now – Tattered Flag (today / now / Wednesday), Allusion Brewing Company (tomorrow / Thursday), AleCraft Brewing Company (Friday), and Mad Chef Brewing (Saturday).

I might be getting the Map of Vermont Breweries done today, but its not looking likely due to another gorgeous day (81 degrees today!) and having lots of yard work, as well as going to Drew’s to film some Star Wars related reels for his Knights of Nostalgia page.

Cheers All!

The Battle of the Breweries (2023) – Finals Fatal Four Way

The Finals Fatal Four Way

Here it is – the Main Event! Its the Finals Fatal Four Way! The culmination of the entire 2023 Battle of the Breweries! And what a tournament this has been! We have four stellar conference champions now pitted against each other in a Finals Fatal Four Way.

Three great breweries from Pennsylvania and one brewery from Maryland will be competing in our multi – state 160 brewery tournament finals.

You can find the results from the Conference Finals here:

The Finals Fatal Four Way is the winner of each of the conferences – Chinook, Nugget, Saaz, and Walhalla, competing in a final match – up to determine the Champion of this year’s Battle of the Breweries. Its a single winner match – up between the four, so no multiple choice, no elimination, just vote for one of the four competing breweries (the voting will only allow you to vote for one).

The Finals Fatal Four Way Competitors

The four remaining breweries, our final four competitors, are:

  • Chinook Conference Winner: Tattered Flag Brewery and Distillery
  • Nugget Conference Winner: Allusion Brewing Company
  • Saaz Conference Winner: AleCraft Brewing Company
  • Walhalla Conference Winner: Mad Chef Brewing

So which will it be? Who will be 2023’s Battle of the Breweries winner? Will it be Tattered Flag Brewery? Or will it be Allusion Brewing Company? Or could it be AleCraft Brewing Company? Or perhaps Mad Chef Brewing?

You decide!

Voting Rules

First, before we get to the voting, we have to go over the rules. Unlike all of the previous rounds, the Finals Fatal Four Way is a two week round. Voting will end Sunday, April 16th, at 11:59:59 PM EST.

You can vote once per day for your favorite brewery in the finals. The voting block will list all four breweries, but you can only select one. You can share this page on your social media to help your favorite brewery win the tournament.

Remember to vote daily, starting today and ending on April 16th at 11:59:59 PM EST.

Social Media

The best way to get your brewery to jump up and ahead is to share it on your social media pages. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Patreon, OnlyFans, Twitch, Unfeathered, YouTube, Untappd, Bots.Com, Reach Around, Wrestling is Fake.com, Birds-aren’t-real.com, etc.

I will post about the tournament, giving updates on the finals match on The Beer Thrillers Facebook page daily. You can find our Facebook page here: The Beer Thrillers on Facebook.

Unlike some March Madness styled tournaments, we don’t hide voting results. So after you vote, you can click on the voting results and see where each brewery is standing in the Finals Fatal Four Way whenever you would like.

Thank You For Reading

Ok, Scarlet apparently really loves the Lord of the Rings soothing music on YouTube (currently listening to Lord of the Rings | Gondor Music & Ambience, and that put her right to sleep. So I was able to get this voting page up. Thank you all for reading us here at The Beer Thrillers and checking out our page and having the patience as I get these articles up with a nearly five month old who is beginning to teethe.

This tournament has been a lot of fun, but it is also a lot of work. So thank you to everyone for your patience. WordPress has also been a bit of a bear for much of this, but it appears the tagging, categories, formatting, and other issues got resolved just the past few days (noticed it when writing up the Separatist Beer Project Closure post). So things should be going smoothly – but if you do notice anything not working, please leave a comment or message us through the CONTACT US page or by e – mail at thebeerthrillers@gmail.com

In the upcoming two weeks I am going to do a more thorough look at the full tournament, breaking down the votes and how well each conference winner did. I will also do a full write up on each of the breweries in the Finals Fatal Four Way too, where I will list what articles we’ve done about them, and my visits to each of those places.

Here is a list of some of our most recent articles:

The Battle of the Breweries (2023) – Conference Finals Results

Conference Finals

It’s all over and wrapped up. The conferences are done, and we are now at our Finals Fatal Four Way!

Whittled down from 160 breweries from across several states (including Pennsylvania, Ohio, Delaware, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, West Virginia, Virginia, Washington D.C., Indiana, and Kentucky), we are down to just 4 breweries left. Just four breweries left to compete in the Finals Fatal Four Way!

The Conference Finals came down to the following match – ups:

Chinook

  • Tattered Flag Brewery and Distillery vs. Cox Brewing Company

Nugget

  • Von C Brewing Company vs. Allusion Brewing Company

Saaz

  • RAR Brewing vs. AleCraft Brewing Company

Walhalla

  • Boneshire Brew Works vs. Mad Chef Brewing

There was definitely lots of fireworks in this round of voting! This was one of the most heavily voted rounds we’ve had in the history of doing this tournament (our third year running it).

So let’s take a look at the results.

Conference Finals Results

Like I said, this was a crazy round of voting! What a busy and full week this has been with so many votes coming in. Its so great to see the love and support for the breweries involved. Thank you to everyone who voted.

Chinook Conference Winner

Nugget Conference Winner

In the Nugget Conference we had 6 seed Allusion Brewing Company battling the defending champions (coming in at the 8 seed) Von C Brewing Company.

Saaz Conference Winner

In our third conference, Saaz Conference, we had two strong Maryland juggernauts duke it out. RAR Brewing was a 4 seed taking on the underdog AleCraft Brewing Company (an 11 seed).

Another close battle, (it seems like each conference the voting got closer than the last), but in the end, another underdog picked up the victory with AleCraft Brewing Company getting 1692 votes to RAR Brewing’s 1328 votes. Thats a 364 vote difference.

AleCraft Brewing Company is moving on to the Finals Fatal Four Way and will be the only non – Pennsylvania brewery involved.

Walhalla Conference Winner

In the closest margin of victory, and in the least number of votes, we have the Walhalla Conference winner. In the Walhalla Conference Finals we had two Central PA greats battle it out – with number 8 seed Boneshire Brew Works taking on number 11 seed Mad Chef Brewing.

In only a margin of victory of 151 votes – Mad Chef Brewing will be advancing to the finals. They won with 791 votes to Boneshire Brew Works’ 640 votes. Out of the four conferences this was the closest margin of victory (it was also the lowest amount of total votes as well).

Mad Chef Brewing Company will be the final spot in the Finals Fatal Four Way.

Finals Fatal Four Way

This should be an action packed and fun finals! The top brewery from each of the four conferences duking it out in a finals where only one brewery can emerge victorious!

The Finals Fatal Four Way is:

  • (9) Tattered Flag Brewery and Distillery vs. (6) Allusion Brewing Company vs. (11) AleCraft Brewing Company vs. (11) Mad Chef Brewing.

Who will emerge victorious out of this group?! Well – you guys get to decide! You the voters will decide on which of these four great breweries get to take home the coveted “Battle of the Breweries (2023) Championship”!

This is our third year running it. Past winners included:

  • (2021) – Isle of Que Brewing
  • (2022) – Von C Brewing Company

So will we see hoist up the championship, and raise the banner, for 2023?

Voting

In about a half hour I will have the voting page up for everyone to vote on. Unlike previous rounds, the Finals Fatal Four Way is a two week round. So it will run until April 16th, and end at midnight. (Sunday April 16th, at 11:59:59 PM EST to be exact.)

The voting rules are simple: you can vote for just one of the four breweries every time you vote, and you are allowed to vote once per day.

I will also be posting a full article detailing the breweries that are dueling in the finals. Where we break down their tournament run, any relevant articles from the blog, and other factoids and beers we’ve had from their breweries. So please be sure to check out those articles as well once they come out.

The voting page will most likely be up around 10:30 AM (Scarlet is being a wee bit fussy this morning as per normal on Monday mornings, I think she might be related to Garfield). So please keep us bookmarked and stay tuned for that announcement.

Congratulations

I want to take this opportunity to congratulate the four remaining breweries and wish them all the best of luck. I have enjoyed visiting all four of them, and they certainly all rank very highly in my opinion. (Amy has been to three of them with me, and has loved the three she visited as well.)

Once I have the voting page up on the blog, I’ll circle back around and post the link here.

Thank You For Reading

It really seems like Scarlet is fussiest when she knows I want to work on this, so I do appreciate you all bearing with me on this as well. She seems to hate Monday mornings (guess I shouldn’t have read her that Garfield comic book that one time). Have no fears though, the voting page will be up shortly (aiming to have it up around 10:30 AM EST).

Hopefully you’ll take the time to check out some of our newest recent articles. We do a lot of writing here at the blog, and its not just for the tournament. So check some of these articles out:
