Beer and baseball just go together…. like… baseball and cracker jacks…. or baseball and peanuts…. or baseball and soft pretzels. You know… come to think of it, all of these foods are very salty and make you want to drink… I wonder if thats a coincidence?

Beer prices at Major League Baseball (MLB) stadiums in 2025 vary significantly, reflecting each team’s pricing strategies and efforts to enhance fan experience. While some teams have introduced value menus to offer more affordable options, others maintain higher prices, especially for premium or craft selections. So its no wonder you wanna know where you can get the most bang for your buck, so lets see what stadiums and ballparks have the best cost to beer ratios!

Average Beer Prices Across MLB Stadiums

Based on available data, the average price for a 16-ounce domestic beer at MLB stadiums in 2025 is approximately $7.50. However, prices can range from as low as $3.00 to as high as $15.00, depending on the stadium and beer type.

Notable Examples

  • Most Expensive: At Steinbrenner Field, home to the Tampa Bay Rays’ spring training, a 16-ounce beer can cost up to $15.00, the highest reported in the league. Bookies.com

  • Affordable Options: Teams like the Baltimore Orioles and Milwaukee Brewers have introduced value menus, offering beers for as low as $5.00 to attract more fans and provide a family-friendly experience. MarketWatch

  • Special Promotions: The St. Louis Cardinals offer $5.00 beers at the Budweiser Terrace during all games, providing fans with a more affordable beverage option. Reddit

Price Per Ounce

Analyzing beer prices per ounce provides additional insight:

  • Highest Per Ounce: The San Francisco Giants have one of the highest per-ounce prices at $0.73, reflecting the premium pricing at Oracle Park. ESPN.com

  • Lowest Per Ounce: The Colorado Rockies offer beers at $0.25 per ounce, making Coors Field one of the most affordable stadiums for beer.

Average Beer Prices in 2025

While the average beer price at MLB stadiums in 2025 hovers around $7.50 for a 16-ounce domestic beer, fans can find both more affordable and more expensive options depending on the stadium and available promotions. Teams are increasingly offering value menus and special deals to enhance the game-day experience and make attending games more accessible to a broader audience.

🍺 Average Beer Prices at MLB Ballparks (2025 Season)

Team Stadium Average Beer Price
Baltimore Orioles Oriole Park at Camden Yards 10.99$
Boston Red Sox Fenway Park 10.50$
Chicago White Sox Guaranteed Rate Field 10.50$
Chicago Cubs Wrigley Field 10.49$
San Francisco Giants Oracle Park 9.00$
Pittsburgh Pirates PNC Park 8.91$
Milwaukee Brewers American Family Field 8.49$
Texas Rangers Globe Life Field 8.00$
Philadelphia Phillies Citizens Bank Park 7.69$
Houston Astros Minute Maid Park 7.50$
New York Mets Citi Field 7.50$
Cincinnati Reds Great American Ball Park 7.49$
Los Angeles Dodgers Dodger Stadium 7.00$
Oakland Athletics Oakland Coliseum 7.00$
New York Yankees Yankee Stadium 6.00$
Detroit Tigers Comerica Park 5.29$
St. Louis Cardinals Busch Stadium 5.25$
Miami Marlins loanDepot Park 5.00$
Tampa Bay Rays Tropicana Field 5.00$
Cleveland Guardians Progressive Field 5.00$
Kansas City Royals Kauffman Stadium 5.00$
Seattle Mariners T-Mobile Park 5.00$
San Diego Padres Petco Park 5.00$
Minnesota Twins Target Field 4.99$
Atlanta Braves Truist Park 4.99$
Arizona Diamondbacks Chase Field 4.99$
Los Angeles Angels Angel Stadium 4.50$
Toronto Blue Jays Rogers Centre 4.44$
Colorado Rockies Coors Field 3.00$
Washington Nationals Nationals Park 3.00$

Now, as you can see, by the low prices of some of these parks, this obviously doesn’t indicate the best beer is being consumed! The math was accumulated over the total prices of beer items listed in various places in the parks, and also takes in some discounts and different methods that some (season ticket holders, etc.) have of reducing the costs. Its also prince per ounce, so costs may seem off balance due to this as well.

Numbers and information comes via Market Watch.

Mystery Phillies fan buys rounds of beer for people in Section 103

Philadelphia Phillies fans had even more to celebrate after their win on Wednesday night when everyone in Section 103 was treated not once, but twice to free drinks, courtesy of an anonymous benefactor.

The generous act has left many wondering about the identity of this mysterious fan.

Reginald Duval Saint, a beer vendor at Citizens Bank Park who has a personal goal of serving beer in every MLB stadium, shared his encounter with the kind stranger. “He recognized me from an Eagles game where he had bought beer from me before. At this game, he just said, ‘I’m in Section 103, I want everyone to have a beer,'” recounted Duval Saint.

According to Duval Saint, the drinks on offer that night ranged from $12 for beer to $16 for canned cocktails. Despite the desire to remain anonymous, the buyer’s generosity sparked curiosity and gratitude among those in the section.

Ashley Phillips, who was sitting in Section 103, described the confusion and surprise amongst the crowd. “At first, everyone was unsure whether to even accept the beer. Then, when the guy came down my row, I recognized him and thanked him without making a fuss,” she said.

When asked if such generosity was typical for him, Phillips responded, “He’s always been incredibly nice, comes from a great family, and he really doesn’t want the credit, which is quite rare.”

With 352 seats in Section 103 and drinks costing between $12 and $16, the anonymous fan spent over $4,400 per round, totaling approximately $9,000 for both rounds of free drinks, making it a night to remember for those Phillies fans.

New Camo Can Release

D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc., America’s Oldest Brewery®, announced the return of their limited-edition Team RWB camo cans. The Traditional Lager camo cans support Yuengling’s partnership with military veteran nonprofit Team Red, White & Blue (Team RWB) as part of Yuengling’s Stars & Stripes program – the brewery’s year-round initiative supporting our nation’s heroes and military veterans.

“As the Oldest Brewery in America, we are dedicated to supporting the U.S. military and are always seeking ways to further show our appreciation to those that protect our country’s freedom. We are grateful to partner with Team Red, White & Blue, an organization that shares our devotion to the men and women that have served as our nation’s heroes.”

Wendy Yuengling, Chief Administrative Officer

Starting May 8th of 2023, the limited-edition Yuengling Lager cans will be available until the end of this summer in 12 – ounce 12 – pack, 12 – ounce 24 – pack cans as well as single – serve 24 – ounce cans. The camo cans are available for purchase at fans of legal drinking age’s favorite stores, restaurants and bars across the brewery’s current 26-state-footprint.

Yuengling has always made a big commitment to the veterans and the armed forces of America. And this can is no different and changes nothing of their pledge to them. The special cans, emblazoned with a unique desert camouflage print and Team Red, White & Blue logo, mark just one of the many ways Yuengling values and pays tribute to the service men and women in our country.

Lee Brice

Each camo displays a QR code co – branded with American country music star and official Yuengling Traditional Lager and Stars & Stripes program Brand Ambassador, Lee Brice. When scanned, the QR code will immerse fans in a digital Stars & Stripes experience, inviting users to enter an exclusive giveaway to win a Lee Brice Party Pack; learn more about Team RWB and donate to the organization; listen to Lee Brice’s new album called “Hey World”; and tour America’s Oldest Brewery or shop online for Stars & Stripes merchandise.

“I am thrilled to be part of Yuengling’s efforts to support Team Red, White, and Blue with these limited – edition cans. I can’t think of anything better than saluting our troops with a nice, cold Yuengling beer this summer.”

Lee Brice, Musician

Wendy Yuengling, Charity, and Aaron Nola

To kick off the start to the limited-edition camo can season and this year’s Stars & Stripes program, Wendy Yuengling, alongside Aaron Nola, Philadelphia Phillies Pitcher and Yuengling Brand Ambassador, presented $55,000 to Team Red, White & Blue’s Executive Director Mike Erwin. The presentation took place at Nola’s inaugural “Bowling for The Troops” charity event at Brooklyn Bowl Philadelphia.

“We’re stoked for this year’s Team RWB camo can launch and grateful for the generous support from Yuengling through the Stars & Stripes program. As the nation’s leading health and wellness community for veterans, this support will enable us to deliver consistent events and programming for years to come.”

Mike Erwin, Founder and Executive Director of Team Red, White, and Blue

Drunk Phils Fans and Rotunda Brewing Company Team Up With ‘Jam The Batter’ Collaboration https://thebeerthrillers.com/2022/05/17/drunk-phils-fans-and-rotunda-brewing-company-team-up-with-jam-the-batter-collaboration/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=drunk-phils-fans-and-rotunda-brewing-company-team-up-with-jam-the-batter-collaboration Tue, 17 May 2022 13:08:06 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=9267
Jam the Batter (sWheat Tart) – A collaboration between Rotunda Brewing Company and Drunk Phils Fans

Drunk Phils Fans and Rotunda Brewing Company Teaming Up

As an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan (god have mercy upon my soul), I’ve always followed various Philly related blogs and pages (like Crossing Broad, Drunk Phils Fans, etc, etc.), and obviously I’m quite an avid drinker and beer fan as well (shocker right?!?) so I immediately jumped when I saw Drunk Phils Fans was teaming up with a beer – and with local favorites Rotunda Brewing Company of all breweries. Such a perfect fit!

So I immediately reached out to Drunk Phils Fans to get the low-down on their page, the beer, and everything else.

The Drunk Phils Fan

You will most likely know Drunk Phils Fans from their Facebook page: Drunk Phils Fans. They currently have 24, 977 likes and 26, 588 followers. So needless to say they have been around and garner quite a bit of attention. You can follow their website here: Drunk Phils Fans .com.

So I asked them some questions about how they started up, what they are, what they are up to, and how their beer collaboration with Rotunda Brewing Company came to be.

(For brevity’s sake, I will have The Beer Thrillers abbreviated to ‘TBT’ and Drunk Phils Fans abbreviated to ‘DPF’ after the first usage.)

The Beer Thrillers: How did you start the Drunk Phils Fans page? (How long ago, when/where/how, etc.) How has it evolved since then?
Drunk Phils Fans: This all started as a blog, which was named the same and first post was in 2010. I then started a FB group in 2010 and then switched over to a page once the group hit 1000 followers. The idea for the blog was to highlight some past Phillies season and players (mostly “forgotten” players, as well at to talk about prior and upcoming games. The FB page was always intended to be some of the talk and chatter you may hear at the local pub from intense Phillies fans. On Point, sometime irreverent analysis of the front office, games, players, opponents, etc

Rob G is an original member that is still providing content. The page evolved by adding in some talented authors: Chris D, who does all of the meme work and we added Waz, Al, Russell, Sean and Ashley as people providing content and helping to manage the page. I can’t point to a single element of how or when the page became more popular, but I constantly hear that people go to our page because of great content and valid observations/talking points about the team. Some of our posts did go “viral” with over a million views, but the growth was organic by building the audience through content.

TBT: How did this beer idea come up? Did you reach out to Rotunda Brewing? Did they reach out to you? What interested you in this beer and this brewery?
DPF: It has always been a dream of mine to have a beer that I created or somehow named/linked with me. I figured once the page got a large enough audience, it would be more enticing for a brewery to collaborate with us.

My wife and I went to Hershey this winter for a weekend getaway and toured some of the Hershey area breweries. Rotunda was on my list for two reasons: 1. A DPF fan, Brent, is a manager at Rotunda and offered a brewery tour for me and an insight on their process and facilities and 2. Rotunda has a GREAT lineup of different styles of beers, all highly rated and respected on Untappd, so I knew I had to try them. With Brent being a big DPF fan and me being a fan of Rotunda, I think it was a good match and I do not remember who “made the first move” while talking collaboration. To me it seemed mutually advantageous.

TBT: Stevie Glick absolutely nailed it with the logo. Just want to throw that out there right now, he does their artwork for them, and is absolutely phenomenal.

TBT: Did you have any input on the beer; style, ingredients, recipe, etc? Did you help them brew it?
DPF: We did have input on style. I am not a particular fan of IPA, so I did not want this beer to be of that style. I am a huge fan of darker beers and stouts, but wanted a beer for the summertime. So we collaborated with the sWheat line that Rotunda is well known for and created a fruited sour at 5.9%. We did send Rotunda about 30 name ideas for the beer, of which “Jam the Batter” won because of the double entendre of jam in the baseball sense and the fruit we are adding to the beer often seen as a jam. I did not physically help with the brewing process, mostly because of proximity to Rotunda from my home in Philly. However, it is something I would like to be involved with in the next go round!

TBT: What are some of your favorite breweries? Favorite beers? Go to beers? Preferences when it comes to alcohol in general?
DPF: Fave Breweries: I will do a top 5 in the Philly area no particular order. Rotunda, Imprint, Human Robot, Troegs, and 2SP.

Fave Beers: This answer could be really long, so I will try and give the Cliff Notes. If I go to a corner bar that does not have craft beers, I will have Miller High Life, In the summer, I am a huge Hefeweizen fan. My fave is Weihenstephaner. In the Winter, especially leading up to Christmas, I look forward to the Troeg’s Mad Elf release. Otherwise, I spend a lot of the winter trying different dark beers (Stouts and Lagers). I have recently gotten into Rum and Bourbon Barrel Aged Stouts even more and will always try them when available. I am also a Union season ticket holder and recently really liked 2SP’s Delco Lager. Supremely drinkable with a lower ABV.

TBT: Any other big plans with the page? Any other beer related collaborations in the works / in the future or anything you are interested in trying or wanting to do?
DPF: We are currently having a beer release party at Rotunda on May 21st at their Annville location from 1-4. We are also having some Phillies Watch Parties at local bars: May 25th at Jerzees Glenside and June 26 at Nick’s Roast Beef Cottman along with a special guests, Corner Sports Podcast where I will be in the show with them live on-site 1-3, followed by the Phillies game at 4. We would also like to do these watch parties at interested breweries in the near future. As far as the future of the page, we hope everyone loves our Rotunda collaboration and would love to collaborate with them or another Philly / Montco / Bucks brewery for a playoff beer for the Phils! I’d like to be more hand on to learn the process and work that goes into each step. I guess the big dreams would be a brewery of our own at some point. I dreamed of having a beer and that came true, so who knows!

sWheat Tart Series

Rotunda Brewing Company has been well known for their sWheat Tart series for a while. (We’ve even covered a few various sWheat Tarts here on the blog for beer reviews. You can read them here: Juicy Fruit sWheat Tart – Beer Review and Mango Guyabano sWheat Tart – Beer Review.) It is possibly their most popular line of beers, and they have done just about every imaginable flavor profile and combination with them. Definitely be on the lookout for this series whenever you see them in cans or whenever you visit either of their brewery locations in person (the Annville Brewery or the Hershey brewpub.)

Rotunda Brewing Company Tailgate

On May 21st (2022), the Rotunda Brewing Company is hosting a Tailgate party to celebrate the release of ‘Jam the Batter’. From their Facebook page:

“We’re releasing a collaboration beer with our friends at, Drunk Phils Fans and throwing a kick ass tailgate at our Annville location, this Saturday from 1-4 pm! Wear your best philly gear and drink some of our new Jam The Batter sWheat Tart, loaded with thick mango, pineapple & strawberry puree! More details to come! Drunk Phils Fans Rotunda Restaurant & Brewery

Rotunda Brewing Company (Facebook)

It looks to be a fun time, and I might be able to squeeze it into my busy schedule and stop out for a bit. Hope I get to see some of you out there. And we can all root on the Phillies and drink some delicious beers.

Philadelphia Phillies

I would be amiss to make this article, and not mention the Phillies even a little bit. They are currently sitting at 17 – 18 and 5.5 games behind in the NL East. Its a long season, and the Mets are looking tough this year, but we also all know how the Mets are…. so hopefully late season Phils can kick it into overdrive. Looks like we are coming out of a current slump and are starting to hit stride. (And my dad recently put down a 100$ wager at Hollywood Casino that the Phils will win the division, so for his sake, lets go Phils!).

The bats are finally starting to warm up with what we all thought they should be. Defense will be a struggle all season. And hopefully by trade deadline we can shore up the pitching staff and make this team a true contender. Long overdue for another deep playoff run and hopeful World Series.

Thanks For Reading

The May 21st date might just be as busy as the May 14th date was for me. First off, its my daughter’s 13th birthday. (So, preemptive and early Happy Birthday to Lilyana Rose.) Also, its the day of the Imprint “Haze” brewfest, as well as the Drunk Phils Fans and Rotunda Brewing Company’s beer tailgate. As well as a host of other personal stuff for me and other staff members here at The Beer Thrillers.

I would like to say thanks to the Drunk Phils Fans for letting me reach out to them and talking to them and exchanging e-mails. I can’t wait to try their beer. They are great people over there (and at Rotunda as well), so its looking to be a great thing all the ways around.

As always, I do greatly appreciate you all reading this. Let me know your thoughts, opinions, and ideas. Comments, suggestions, and otherwise. Always love to hear from my readers! Either by comment here on the blog, or through e-mail or our contact page. Let us know your thoughts!

Cheers all! And lets go Phillies!

Citizens Bank Park

Citizens Bank Park is home to the Philadelphia Phillies and is also a music venue at times. Its located in the heart of the “Philadelphia sports complex” that also has the Lincoln Financial Field (home of the Philadelphia Eagles), as well as the Wells Fargo Arena where the Philadelphia 76ers (basketball) and the Philadelphia Flyers (hockey) play. It is roughly a two hour to two and a half hour drive from Harrisburg.

Its a beautiful ballpark, and is where the Phillies won their World Series in 2008.

Thanks For Reading

As of right now, I might be running out there for the evening session – it all depends. I have the Hummelstown Hunger Run (5K) at 10AM in Hummelstown. And then Amy and myself might be coming out there, or doing brewery hopping, or who knows what, all dependent on her job and what all we need to do. The next day then (Sunday morning) is the ‘Breweries in PA’ beer share at Pour Man’s Brewing, that we are also hoping to attend. Hopefully we’ll see you out at one of the events.

Saturday (May 14th) is also the Best Brunch Beer Fest in Pittsburgh. If you are going to that, you can read about it here: Best Beer Brunch Ever. I would love to get to go to this, but its too far and given the 5K run is at the same time, we won’t be able to make it.

Also, we are working with Drunk Phils Fans to give you a heads up look at their beer collab that will be dropping on May 21st. They paired up with Rotunda Brewing Company to make a Phillies beer inspired beer. We can’t wait to try it!

Cheers!

Book Review: The Physics of Baseball (Robert K. Adair) https://thebeerthrillers.com/2021/04/24/book-review-the-physics-of-baseball-robert-k-adair/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=book-review-the-physics-of-baseball-robert-k-adair Sat, 24 Apr 2021 14:55:00 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=7523
The Physics of Baseball by Robert K. Adair

America’s Game

Its start of the season, its springtime, flowers are blooming, people are getting vaccinated, and for the first time in what feels like forever, people are getting to watch baseball in person, ahhhh what a glorious time it is, its baseball season! America’s game! The Phillies have started off 3-0 against the Braves and then quickly dovetailed into their normal season low. Ahhh what a great time!

Whats better than baseball? Thinking about baseball like a nerd! And no I don’t mean the sabermetrics like in Moneyball…. I mean even nerdier…. deep…. gritty…. nerdism….. I’m talking about….

PHYSICS! Everybody’s least favorite science!

So what’s better than combining our favorite sport with our least favorite subject right?

Physics

You can’t do baseball without physics. As Jesse would say (from Breaking Bad) “Yea… Science bitches!” I love science, but more in the “thats cool how it works” kind of way, and not so much in the “forms” and “figures” and “equations” kind of way. It all looks Greek and Hebrew and Gibberish to me when looking at X – r/1 (n/200) = v/3 or some such. I dunno…. that was purely made up contrivance there on my part, so take it for what it is. But this book is … somewhere between a layman’s work and a bit too heavy on jargon and equations.

So, needless to say then, some parts flew over my head, whilst other parts were in my wheelhouse. (When he talks like he would to a third grader, its in my wheelhouse, when he speaks to an educated academician … yea… definitely not in my wheelhouse.)

Spoiler before getting into the review – I think there is still plenty in this quick (106 pages or so, before footnotes, bibliography, and index) book for any baseball (and if there is such a thing as a ‘physics’ fan) fan.

Robert K. Adair

Sadly, it appears we just recently lost (last September) Robert K. Adair. I didn’t know of him or anything about him prior to reading the book, and the book doesn’t give a whole lot of history on his past either, but for the review I looked him up and he has his own Wikipedia page. (Though, at this point who doesn’t? ….oh wait… I don’t….) The book gives a few indications of his qualifications and expertise but not much else and not a whole lot of history of the man himself.

The lead-in for him on Wikipedia page: “Robert Kemp Adair (August 14, 1924 – September 28, 2020) was an American physicist. He latterly held the position of Sterling Professor Emeritus of physics at Yale University.[3][4][5]” (The Emeritus position for Yale was mentioned in the book.)

Adair served in the European theatre after volunteering for World War II and was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze star. After achieving a doctorate in experimental nuclear physics at the University of Wisconsin he worked at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) in Long Island. In 1959 he joined the faculty at Yale, serving as chair of the Department of Physics and director of the Division of Physical Sciences. He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 1976 where he served as Chairman of the Physics Section 1986-1989 and Chairman of the Class of Physical Sciences 1991-1994. He was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1997,[1] after a distinguished career in, among many other subfields of physics, weak-interaction (Kaon) physics at the Alternating Gradient Synchrotron (AGS) at BNL.

Later, in his retirement, he studied the effects of extremely low frequency (weak) electromagnetic fields on human health and among other responsibilities served on the Committee of the American Physical Society (APS) established to investigate the APS Statement on Global Warming in 2007, which was not without its own internal controversy. He died in September 2020 at the age of 96.[6]

The Physics of Baseball on GoodReads

The book is mainly broken down into a few main categories (there’s a few others that are brief and just tie in to the overall theme of physics and the book, rather than particulars) and they are: the flight of the baseball, pitching, batting the ball, and the properties of bats.

I liked the pitching segment the best because it discussed the differences in sliders, fastballs (depending on seam and style), curve balls and knuckle balls. I found it fascinating learning the different affects small things like rotation, air flow, humidity, etc, has on the ball’s speed, velocity, trajectory, etc.

The other segments were interesting as well. The flight of the ball was impressive, and is kind of funny in retrospect how he mentions if they ever play in Denver that they would have to change the balls they use. (Spoiler alert – the Colorado Rockies were founded in 1991, and they do not change the balls when playing there.)

The last segment about properties of bats is also interesting, especially as it discusses the various ways of cheating and tampering with bats. He claims (through his equations and physics) that corking bats actually doesn’t provide any benefits to the player and that there is no real benefit to cheating this way. He mentions several other ways in the past they cheated – hammering nails into the bat, cutting the bats, slicing the bats, different things other than corking, etc.

The equations and formulas are a bit hard to follow – for someone like me at any rate. I’m not the biggest formula and equation and nerd on that end, despite my love for science. I like seeing science in work, not doing the work for it, if that makes any sense. I think someone with a good (or recent) high school physics class or college course could do well enough with the formulas and equations, whereas for me, most went right over my head.

Overall this is a fun book for any fan of baseball and physics (and double win if your a fan of both). There is certainly a lot to learn here, especially if you are an active player, mostly for high school or college age, as a professional probably already knows all this – just without the science behind it; they just know it from learned behavior, by playing, by experience.

Brewery Review: Highway Manor Brewing Co. https://thebeerthrillers.com/2020/09/28/brewery-review-highway-manor-brewing-co/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=brewery-review-highway-manor-brewing-co Mon, 28 Sep 2020 13:00:00 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=4447 Highway Manor Brewing Co. opened their doors (finally!) for in-house service Saturday, at 11AM (September 26th, 2020). You can read our preview article here: Brewery Opening – Highway Manor.

From Highway Manor Brewing Co’s Facebook page – a screenshot of our posting about their brewery opening

Saturday night after work got over (7PM) I got the pleasure to get to Highway Manor Brewing in Camp Hill. I left work at 7 and got there at about 7:25-7:30. There was still a decent crowd at the time when I got there (inside tables were full and the tables with the swing seats were full). I ordered the Mr. Blackberry and a Turkey Sandwich to start.

Mr. Blackberry by Highway Manor Brewing Co.

Beer: Mr. Blackberry
Brewery: Highway Manor Brewing Co.
Style: Sour – Other
ABV: 5.2%
IBU: None
Untappd Description: None

First time having this, I’ve had several other Highway Manor beers at various brewfests (Lititz Brewfest, Lancaster Brewfest, possibly Little Big Beer Fest or the Mount Hope RenFaire Brewfest), and this was just as good as all of those. This was super tart, delicious, fruity, with a great berry flavor.

On Untappd I gave it a ****.25
The global Untappd rating (as of 9.27.20) is: 3.73

Soon my food was arriving, and I had already drained my Blackberry sour, so I needed a new beer to help eat the food. (By the way, the entire food menu looked amazing, the turkey sandwich was phenomenal. Top of the line, high quality food, and very cheap, and with huge portions.)

Once my sandwich arrived I needed another beer, and decided to try some of their guest taps that they had running (they had five drafts; all guest taps). I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about Human Robot but haven’t had a chance yet to try anything from them, so I decided to try out their IPA – Dreams of Orgonon.

Dreams of Orgonon by Human Robot

Beer: Dreams of Orgonon
Brewery: Human Robot
Style: IPA – New England
ABV: 6.6%
IBU: None
Untappd Description: Deliciously dreamy juice bomb brewed with sweet golden promise malt and hopped intensely with Citra, Mosaic, and Idaho 7. Its like the sun coming out…

My Untappd Rating: ****.5
Global Untappd Rating: 4.15 (as of 9.28.20)

This was extremely tasty, juicy, dank, and delicious. Everything you want from a New England IPA, this had in spades, plus some. All around amazing beer and went fantastically with my sandwich. By this point I had moved to the center table and sat across from the one swing. I was informed by Johnny (Johnny Compton III – owner/brewer at Highway Manor Brewing) that a friend of his bought everyone a round. I was then joined by a couple – Lucas and Kaitlin who sat next to me.

They were both wearing ‘cat’ pants (pants with dozens of cat faces all over them), and quickly from talking to them I realized Lucas was Johnny’s friend. I thanked him for the beer, and for the rest of the night there, talked with them while we all drank, as well as talked with a few others who were there and one or two that came and went.

Compton Pilsner (a collaboration by Raney Cellar Brewery and Highway Manor Brewing)

Beer: Compton Pilsner
Brewery: Raney Cellars Brewing Company
Collaboration with: Highway Manor Brewing Co.
Style: Pilsner – Czech
ABV: 5.4%
IBU: None
Untappd Description: A traditional Pilsner with Mr Johnny Compton from Highway Manor Brewing. Saaz Hops from start to finish on this Pils.

As I’ve said in the blog here before when doing reviews, pilsners are a style that can be very hit or miss for me. This was a complete hit for me. Blew me away how wonderful the flavor was, how crisp it was, no lingering aftertastes (which I sometimes get from pilsners and why they are often a miss for me). This is just a fantastically brewed beer.

Throughout the night I had been texting with the group text of guys from my work, a group of us that regularly meet to play the Game of Thrones board game (and other games) and just group text each other about all kinds of things, from beer to philosophy, to politics, to work, to movies, shows, nerd culture, etc. My one friend and co-worker in the group text decided he would spend the night throwing out some new “blog names” for me instead of using The Beer Thrillers. At this point, I’d like to take a divergence from the brewery review and highlight the best that D. Pezzuti had to offer:

  • Benjamin Buzzin
  • Get Ben’t
  • Bend Over Bens Benders
  • The Curious Cases of Benjamin Buzzin

We then discussed doing a segment of beer reviews of Nitro stouts and rate them in the style of WCW Nitro Years. With five star Nitro stouts being WCW Nitro ’97 and one star Nitro stouts being WCW Nitro ’01. We also discussed calling the faithful to the blog “Hopamaniacs”.

Anyway…. back to the program…

Time for another beer, this time I went for another guest draft – this time from Naked Brewing; Thank Frank.

Thank Frank by Naked Brewing Company

Beer: Thank Frank
Brewery: Naked Brewing Company
Style: IPA – American
ABV: 5.6%
IBU: None
Untappd Description: West Coast IPA hopped with Citra & Amarillo.
Refreshing and perfect for those warm September days. Notes of dank citrus & delicious sticky resin.

A traditional hoppy IPA, this was a change of pace from the crisp pilsner, the juicy New England IPA, and the super tart and delicious sour Mr. Blackberry. This was a good, hoppy, bitter, earthy IPA, old west coast style old-school vibe to it.

My Untappd Rating: ****
Global Untappd Rating: 3.75 (as of 9.28.20)

It was starting to get late, I had thought about meeting two friends (D. Arndt and Youngblood) at Ever Grain before Ever Grain closed (at 11 – just like Highway Manor) since they were doing their Anniversary weekend, but Youngblood’s comedy (stand up comedy) bit went on longer and they wouldn’t be leaving their show til just before 11 anyway. So I stayed til closing getting to talk to Lucas and Kaitlin and others.

At this point, we also got introduced to Johnnie’s dog – a great dane and black lab mix – named Luna. Absolutely beautiful and wonderful dog. Fun and playful and nice drinking companion (no, I didn’t give the dog any beer).

So for my final beer of the night, I tried another brewery I never had before but have heard nothing but great things about – Brewery ARS.

Unfortunately for this, I do not have a pic, as just as I was ordering, my phone died and I did not have a charger on me. (9 hour day at work, plus driving using my GPS, plus texting, plus Untappd, and other apps, for notes, etc., really drained the battery).

Beer: Embrace the Day
Brewery: Brewery ARS
Style: IPA – Imperial / Double New England
ABV: 8.7%
IBU: None
Untappd Description: Hazy Double IPA :: mosaic, simcoe, falconer’s flight, el dorado

Another juicy, bright, delicious New England style IPA; this time a DIPA. A great beer to end the night on. This was super easy to drink, juicy, and went down fast (also perhaps because it was the end of the night and my fifth drink, but who knows).

My Untappd Rating: ****
Global Untappd Rating: 4.09 (as of 9.28.20)

Before leaving, I said my goodbyes to everyone, and got to talk to Johnnie Compton a bit more. He is a great dude, knows his saisons, knows his yeast, knows his beer, and very down to Earth. Thanked me for coming out, and sent me on my way with a few (free) bottles of Mr. Peach and Mr. Plum. Which I will be diving into on the next stream with D. Scott for The Knights of Nostalgia.

I will discuss the aesthetics of the brewery now. The building is small, but well laid out (even with the current COVID restrictions), it has two rooms for dining tables, and then an open patio like area. Kind of reminds you of a house in the suburbs with the patio garage area.

The swings are really neat. I am wondering if they may become a problem with an ‘intoxicated’ person, but at a brewery, I highly doubt this will come up, but you never know. The tables and seating area though is gorgeous, both indoor and outdoor. Indoors, it has a rave like vibe with the glowing lights and the glow in the dark paint. (Make sure to check out the bathroom to really see what I mean.)

Lucas summed it up when we were discussing the brewery and the area, that its a “Philly bar in Camp Hill, turned saison bottle brewery.” And thats probably the most apt way to describe it. Johnnie and I were discussing how it was like opening during COVID and everything, and he was saying how nuts he was for opening a brewery primarily based on bottles rather than draft, and to do it during a global pandemic on top of everything.

The food menu on Saturday night looked fantastic. Lamb, turkey, vegetarian or vegan sandwich, and many other options, all for 8$ or less. Not sure if that menu is permanent or if it will be changed or updated or switched, but Johnnie did say he’s hoping to have food trucks in their parking lot area and grass field area across from the brewery on weekends.

The following pictures I took Saturday night while I was there:

The following pictures are courtesy of Highway Manor’s Facebook page:

This will certainly be a stop I will make regularly when on the West Shore, and will be perfect when hitting the area to do a brewery lap. Other great local breweries include Ever Grain, Mellow Mink, Hemaur Brewing, and Pizza Boy (as well as Liquid Noise which is a bit further, but still in the general area). So lots of great options all in the area.

I personally highly recommend checking the brewery out, and trying their wonderful tremendous beers. Especially if you like farmhouse ales, saisons, tart beers, sours, lambics, or all things similar. They also will have a rotating guest draft list that looks great for the area (Johnnie said he would like to keep it relatively full of Philly area beers), so that looks great – getting to try Philly beers and Philly breweries without the 2 hour drive to Philly. The brewery has a super cool vibe. There was a food menu for kids though it might not be 100% the most kid friendly; its certainly not anti-kid, but the venue vibe seems to be aimed away from parents. It is also dog friendly.

(Post Script: This was meant to go up Sunday night, but everything kinda got pushed back and thus why its gone up this morning, Monday, September 28th. My parents celebrated their 40th Anniversary on Sunday the 27th, and originally – pre-COVID – we were all going to go to the Bengals vs. Eagles game at the Lincoln Center in Philly; since they are big Eagles fans and I’m a Bengals fan, but unfortunately that didn’t get to work out. Instead, we got to watch the overtime – because the game in regulation time was not aired locally – and we got to see possibly the most apathetic overtime ever played. Six punts by the two teams combined in the 10 minute overtime. Neither team trying on their last plays to score. And on top of all this, the Phillies still had a chance to make the playoffs, and all they had to do was win, against a team that was locked in at their seed, and that they had just lost to twice, ….and of course they couldn’t do it. So despite it being an 8-team playoff for each conference, the Phillies *STILL* couldn’t manage to get in. So disappointing. But needless to say despite all this, the article is now up, just a bit later. Enjoy!)

Beer Review: Sour Blueberry (Edmund’s Oast Brewing Company) https://thebeerthrillers.com/2019/09/29/beer-review-sour-blueberry-edmunds-oast-brewing-company/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=beer-review-sour-blueberry-edmunds-oast-brewing-company Sun, 29 Sep 2019 12:19:03 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=785
Sour Blueberry by Edmund’s Oast Brewing Company

Check-mark another brand new brewery from some imaginary list I have running in my head. (There’s no way I could keep track of all of the breweries in Pennsylvania, yet alone the country, or the world to keep some kind of ‘brewery’ list in my head. Plus space up there is pretty limited as it is!) But this is a new brewery for me, and I must say I was not disappointed by this. Hopefully the others from my beer mail from Edmund’s Oast Brewing Company will be just as good.

Beer Mail from South Carolina

If you’ve read my previous blog post / beer review, I received a “porch bomb” on Friday from Aiken South Carolina, containing a bunch of delicious and tasty looking beers. Beers from Fonta Flora, Westbrook, Edmund’s Oast, Wild Leap, Heist Brewing, Creature Comforts, and Pretoria Fields. I’ve so far gotten to dive into two; the Vanilla Ice Cream Stout by Wild Leap Brew Co., and now this Sour Blueberry by Edmund’s Oast.

So I definitely got a nice collection of breweries and a lovely assortment of beers to drink down and review up. Looking forward to tackling all of them here for the blog. (Somebody’s gotta do it right? I mean… they ain’t gonna review themselves are they?)

Friday night watching the Phillies and house sitting my parent’s place I drank down and dug the Vanilla Ice Cream Stout by Wild Leap Brew Co. You can check that review out here: Vanilla Ice Cream Stout. Last night after work and catching the end of the Phillies game (two wins in a row, is the world coming to an end?!) I got to tackle the Sour Blueberry from Edmund’s Oast Brewing Company.

Edmund’s Oast Brewing Company is a micro brewery from Charleston South Carolina. According to Untappd they have 142 unique beers to their name, with a global rating of 3.88 out of 79,638 Ratings. Their Untappd bio reads: “Edmund’s Oast Brewing Co. is a craft brewery, taproom, and restaurant located at 1505 King Street, Charleston, SC in the Pacific Box & Crate development. Quality first. The rest will follow.” They have done some collaborations, one of which is a Peanut Butter stout I also got in my beer mail package with Westbrook. So let’s see what their first beer for me has to offer….

Sour Blueberry

Beer: Sour Blueberry
Brewery: Edmund’s Oast Brewing Company
Style: Sour – Fruited
ABV: 6.5%
IBU: None
Untappd Write-Up: (Blank)

I absolutely love blueberries….when done right in a beer. Theres been many blueberry beers I’ve had over the years. DuClaw’s Funk’d, that horrible In-Bev garbage one (umm…. Sea Dogs or whatever that crap is called?), a mead from Evolution, and several other smaller craft breweries or one-time deals from Troegs or other places. And sadly, blueberries in beer can be a complete hit or miss. Not much of a middle-ground, ‘fudge’, area on this. It’s either 90%-100% or 0% and no “eh, its ok” middle.

I think its because its easy for blueberries to go into that ‘funk / skunk’ sour rather than that ‘tart’ sour tasting area. And that there is only a small window of opportunity for it, before it teeters and goes from tart to funk / skunk. I could be wrong (never brewed with blueberries, just grow them, enjoy the taste of them, and love beer, so thats the extent of my knowledge).

Appearance is a lovely light purplish almost pinkish fruity look. Typical for fruited sours that use berries like blueberries or raspberries or strawberries (though blackberries tend to give a darker purplish hue). A good rich foamy head as soon as it pours, so well carbonated but not too crazily carbonated like The Veil’s Black and Blue Tastee or similar beers.

Aroma is fruity, blueberry, and exactly as the name of the beer would lead you to believe it should smell. This is usually where you can get an idea of how the blueberry in the beer might be, and in this case, you can tell its going to be the lighter, the tart, the ‘good to drink’ style blueberry, rather than the funk, ripe, potent blueberry in some of the bad blueberry beers.

And luckily taste lines up with that. Tart, right amount of carbonation, nothing bittering, nothing cloying, nice light mouthfeel, refreshing, tasty. Sippable not crushable, but definitely enjoyable. You could sit and have a few, over an extended time, this isn’t really in the pound it and keep drinking mood, it has a complexity and with the tartness its good to just sip while doing things or watching TV. A good fire-side beer especially in these fall times. A little sediment on the bottom that probably best not to drink, but completely and overall a good beer.

My Untappd Rating: ****
Global Untappd Rating: 3.93 (as of 9.29.19)

A great tasty beer to house sit with and enjoy on #NationalDrinkBeerDay. I didn’t know we really needed a ‘day’ for this, as that just sounds like every day to me, but hey, whatever, gives me an excuse to drink I suppose, so I’ll take it!

Beer Review: Vanilla Ice Cream Stout (Wild Leap Brew Co.) https://thebeerthrillers.com/2019/09/28/beer-review-vanilla-ice-cream-stout-wild-leap-brew-co/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=beer-review-vanilla-ice-cream-stout-wild-leap-brew-co Sat, 28 Sep 2019 14:32:32 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=769
Vanilla Ice Cream Stout by Wild Leap Brew Co.

It took the Phillies fifteen innings to win last night. Fifteen. Against the Marlins. And people wonder why they didn’t make the playoffs. Sigh. Ugh. At least I had this delicious gem of a beer to keep me company while watching the monotony of the game.

Earlier in the day I had received my second “porch bomb” or “beer mail” package, successfully completing my second beer trade. (I must admit, I am now hooked, its so awesome getting beers from different parts of the country that I most likely won’t be traveling to in the near future in exchange for some locals from my area.)

This trader lived in Aiken South Carolina and had access to several breweries I’ve never been to (or even heard of), and sent me a lovely package that contained beers from South Carolina (SC), North Carolina (NC), and Georgia (GA). Including beers from Edmund’s Oast, Westbrook, and Creature Comforts. So I was very hyped for this box.

My porch bomb delivered on Friday

As you can see there is some killer beers in that package and I can’t wait to tear into them all and review them here. Also starting Friday I began to house-sit for my parents while they are on their anniversary weekend, celebrating their 38th Anniversary. Original plan for Friday night was to go to D. Scott’s to do our podcast, but he wasn’t fully setup and ready. And I kinda then just chilled at my parents home watching their fish (indoor aquarium and outdoor ponds), watching the Phills, and enjoying a fantastically lovely stout.

Wasn’t sure where to start really on this package, but decided the Vanilla Stout while sitting and watching the Phills would be a good place (and kind of solidified my ‘not going out’ and not dropping the book off at the library like I was supposed to do). A 10% stout will do that to you.

So I started off with the stout from Wild Leap Brew Co. Wild Leap is home to La Grange, Georgia, and is listed as a micro-brewery on Untappd. Their Untappd bio reads: “Formed by friends and innovators, Wild Leap Brew Co. is dedicated to delighting customers with approachable, easy-drinking and handcrafted beverages in an atmosphere that’s always easy-going and enjoyable. You could say, when it comes to beer, we’re raising the bar.” They have 190 unique beers listed and a global rating of 4.02. So definitely not bad right there. Their top beers all for the most part are IPAs, the first being Chance IPA, followed by a series of beers they have running: Alpha Abstraction Vol. 7, Vol. 6, and Vol. 8. (I received the Vol. 8 with my beer package.) Next is a Golden Blonde Ale called “Local Gold Blonde Ale”, and then a few more from the Alpha Abstraction series – Vol. 5, Vol. 4, to be broken up by a creamsicle milkshake IPA called Truck Chaser, before their top list rounds out with another Alpha Abstraction – Vol. 3.

Beer: Vanilla Ice Cream Stout
Brewery: Wild Leap Brew Co.
Style: Stout – Imperial / Double Milk
ABV: 10.5%
IBU: 35
Untappd Write-Up: Vanilla Ice Cream Stout is a thick, sweet n’ creamy milk stout brewed with vanilla and milk sugar.

Appearance is dark black beer, with a lovely light brown creamy foamy head. Bubbles are varied, nothing bad, and just a nice dark black look. A “Razor Ramon hair color” beer.

Aroma is like an ice cream float. Very heavy vanilla, very heavy malt, you can smell the sugar, you can smell the cream, you can smell some chocolate (from the malt) though its much lighter compared to the other aromas.

Taste is very delicious. It has an oily mouthfeel that coats your tongue but slides and goes down, nothing cloying and nothing bad about this. There is some thickness but its not too much. There is a lot of creamyness to this and its delicious. Its like a vanilla float but instead of coke you got a stout, with the ice cream melted and at the bottom of the glass, it just makes you want to chug to get to it all. There is a bit of boozyness to it, which I suppose shouldn’t be too surprising since it is a 10.5% ABV, and there is a slight bitterness that comes with it, perhaps due to the malts used, perhaps due to it having a 35 IBU, perhaps from other characteristics.

My Untappd Rating: ****.25
Global Untappd Rating: 4.02 (as of 9.28.19)

Finally, going on 12:30 or so AM, the Phillies finish their marathon 5 hour game against the Marlins, winning at home just to get back to .500, and thanks to two walks (one intentional), and an error on the final play. Thats the Phills for ya.

J. Doncevic is already out with the Rotunda Crew for Kennett Square Brewfest (already checked in to a Chewbacca from Rotunda at 8AM, so looks like his day is going strong already). So if you’re heading out there, stop in there and say hi to him.

Also, it appears, if you are looking for this beer, it is currently listed on Tavour, so you might be able to find it that way if you want it in the Central PA area.

Cheers!
