Unfortunately, it seems like another brewery will be closing in 2025 – this time it’ll be IMBĪB Custom Brews out of Reno, Nevada. Located at 785 E 2nd St, Reno, NV – the brewery and taproom’s last day will be at the end of February, 2025.

IMBĪB Custom Brews Closing End of February

IMBĪB Custom Brews Closing

The brewery and taproom, located at 785 E 2nd St, Reno, NV 89502 will be closing at the end of February.

Following a hard 2024, in which we saw a lot of breweries closing, 2025 isn’t letting up, with even more breweries closing, and what will probably be a record year for brewery closings across the United States (and internationally).

They made this announcement about their closing:

😭🥳🍻We are sad to share that it’s last call for IMBĪB. We will be closing our doors by the end of February as we wind down the company. It’s been a lot of fun being part of this community and industry, but our model is no longer viable.
We did what we set out to do. We made world-class, award-winning beer. We pushed the boundaries of beer, and we nailed some traditional styles. We shared our passion and knowledge with the community. We helped put the Nevada beer scene on the map. We gave to as many organizations as we could and tried to say yes as often as possible. We collaborated. We learned a lot. We started with nothing and made something out of it. We will pass the torch to our fellow breweries and let them carry on making the good stuff.
For the next few weeks, we will be offering some killer deals on our beer as we’d like to see it get appreciated and savored rather than dumped. Starting today all bottles and to-go crowlers are 50% off until we close the doors. Most of these beers will age gracefully for years to come. Next week we will have a killer deal on cases of cans as soon as we finish packaging the last few batches.
We will be throwing one last party on February 1…because we are going to go out with style. Stay tuned for details, but we sure hope to see many of you in the coming weeks. Please stop in and say goodbye and imbibe a few beers with us before we lock the doors for the last time. If you are feeling generous, tip your beertender as all of our employees will be looking for new opportunities.
In the words of Woody Guthrie – “Take it easy, but take it.”

Dancing on the Coffin of ImBIB

Dancing on the Coffin at IMBIB Custom Brews

They made this announcement for February 1st:

Join us on February 1 from Noon-6pm for one final blowout beer party as we dance on the ruins of IMBĪB and say goodbye (even though we will be open for a few more weeks in Feb). The party is at our Reno brewery. We will be scouring our archives for some special beer and all of our current discounts will still be valid that day.
Lets hug, lets cry, lets fucking dance!
If you are one of the few who complains about not getting the discount you want or not getting enough free shit….please do not join us…scavengers not welcome!

Upcoming Trip to Las Vegas https://thebeerthrillers.com/2024/12/30/upcoming-trip-to-las-vegas/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=upcoming-trip-to-las-vegas Mon, 30 Dec 2024 07:15:51 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=15830 This will be my last post for 2024. And then its onto 2025! But I won’t be celebrating the New Year here in Pennsylvania, I will be celebrating in Las Vegas – amongst all the glitz and glamor, the gambling, the alcohol, the lights, the sounds, and all the craziness that comes of it. I am actually just about to get picked up by friends to be taken to the airport and leave Pennsylvania behind for a few days of Las Vegas fun to celebrate the 40th birthday of another friend.

Viva Las Vegas

Welcome to the Fabulous Las Vegas

In just moments Esteban and Laura’s son – Marcos – will be picking me up, and taking myself, Esteban, and Laura to Harrisburg International Airport (HIA), where we will meet up with Josh (MasterMind X Studios) and Drew (Knights of Nostalgia), to fly to Las Vegas and spend the next few days there. (We will be flying back on January 3rd.)

Drew is turning 40 today, and this trip will be to celebrate his birthday, celebrate New Years Eve / New Years Day, to visit his father (who will be driving up from Texas), and to most importantly – have some fun. I’ve known Drew since 5th grade (his 6th grade). The above link is his Facebook page, and this is his YouTube page where he streams video games (typically older games). (See: YouTube – Knights of Nostalgia. And also see: Facebook – Knights of Nostalgia.)

Drew and Esteban used to run a podcast together called “So a Mexican and a Scot Walk Into a Bar…” I appeared on several podcast episodes – including ones about The Irishman, Breaking Bad / Better Call Saul and El Camino, as well as Star Wars, The Umbrella Academy, and LOST themed ones. Josh (MasterMind X Studios) has also appeared on a few as well. (See: Moon of Vega Beer Review – where I discuss the podcasts a bit more.)

Josh will be joining us on the trip, he runs the MasterMind X Studios Facebook page as well as his own YouTube channel – MasterMind X Studios.

Itinerary

We don’t have a strict itinerary for the trip, but there is certainly things we all want to do while we’re in Vegas.

Some definite things we want to check out are all the various casinos, the fountain show at the Billagio, the old strip on Fremont Street, the Mob Museum, numerous breweries, and much more sight seeing.

Our flight path looks like this:

  • Monday: Harrisburg (HIA) to Charlotte. Charlotte to Las Vegas.
  • Friday: Las Vegas to Philadelphia. Philly to Harrisburg (via puddle jumper).

Breweries

In a perfect world, I’ll get to visit all these breweries, but we will see. Time will be both loose and tight while in Vegas (isn’t it always on vacations?), and the ones at the airport are very time restrictive, and are all determinate on terminals, landing times, boarding and off boarding times, etc.

But these are the possible, and hopeful breweries I could get to visit:

Charlotte Airport

  • Sycamore Brewing
  • NoDa Brewing Company
  • Wicked Weed Brewery

Las Vegas

  • BrewDog Las Vegas
  • Beer Zombies
  • Able Baker Brewing Company
  • Nevada Brew Works
  • CraftHaus Brewing
  • HUDL Brewing
  • Hop Nuts Brewing
  • Voodoo Brewing Vegas
  • Chicago Brewing Company
  • Ellis Island Hotel and Brewery
  • Tenaya Creek Brewing
  • Beer District Brewing

Some of these are very doubtful, but some are quite possible. BrewDog is located near the New York Casino, so walkable from where we’ll be staying (Harrah’s Casino). Beer Zombies isn’t too far of an Uber ride from Fremont Street, and speaking of Fremont Street and the Old Strip, there is a few breweries inside of casinos there (Chicago Brewing and Ellis Island). In the Arts District (an Uber drive from the Harrah’s) there are several breweries all in a row – Able Baker, Nevada Brew Works, HUDL Brewing, CraftHaus Brewing, and Hop Nuts Brewing. On a side street somewhere in this area is also Voodoo Brewing Vegas, so that’s also a possible stop.

We’ll see what all we get to, fingers crossed, but would be great to knock off quite a few new breweries from the list.

Time to Go

Okay, Marcos is just about to pull up. I’ve walked Leela, I’ve drank a Fiddlehead Imperial IPA while writing this, and it’s not even 4:30 AM yet. Here’s the kick off to what should be a great vacation! Cheers everyone! Chat with you soon, and I’ll try to keep the social media accounts busy while I’m there. I will do a full recap post once I get back, and might even do some day recaps while I’m there (I am taking my laptop), or I might write each day up individually when I get back and slice them in. We’ll see.

Alright, cheers, and see ya Pennsylvania!

Voodoo Brewery in Reno Closing https://thebeerthrillers.com/2024/05/31/voodoo-brewery-in-reno-closing/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=voodoo-brewery-in-reno-closing Fri, 31 May 2024 13:11:37 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=15767 Voodoo Brewery in Reno Closing

Voodoo Brewery, known for its eclectic and innovative craft beers, made its much-anticipated debut in Reno in November 2022. This opening marked a significant expansion for the brewery, which originated in Meadville, Pennsylvania, and has since gained a reputation for its unique brews and vibrant atmosphere.

Voodoo Brewery in Reno, NV

The Grand Opening

The grand opening of Voodoo Brewery in Reno attracted a crowd eager to experience the brewery’s offerings. Located in a space that previously housed another establishment, Voodoo Brewery transformed the venue into a welcoming environment that reflects its brand’s quirky and artistic spirit. The interior design features bold colors and eclectic decor, creating an inviting atmosphere for both craft beer enthusiasts and casual visitors alike.

Community Engagement

From the outset, Voodoo Brewery aimed to integrate itself into the Reno community. The brewery hosts regular events such as trivia nights, live music performances, and beer tastings, fostering a sense of camaraderie among locals. This commitment to community engagement not only enhances the brewery’s visibility but also strengthens its ties with residents.

Challenges and Closure

Despite the initial excitement surrounding its opening, Voodoo Brewery faced challenges that ultimately led to its closure just months after launching. Reports indicated that the brewery struggled to maintain operations, with some patrons expressing disappointment over the experience. By May 2024, it was confirmed that Voodoo Brewery had permanently closed its doors in Reno, leaving many fans of craft beer lamenting the loss of this unique venue.

The brewery will be replaced with a ‘Champagne and Chocolate, a franchise of The Chocolate Factory.

Conclusion

Voodoo Brewery’s brief tenure in Reno serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by new establishments in the competitive craft beer market. While it brought a fresh perspective and vibrant energy to the local scene during its time, the closure highlights the unpredictable nature of the hospitality industry. As Reno continues to grow as a destination for craft beer lovers, it will be interesting to see what new ventures emerge to fill the void left by Voodoo Brewery.

Brings Craft Beer Magic to Reno

Reno’s craft beer scene just got even more exciting! On January 28, 2023, Voodoo Brewing Co. celebrated the grand opening of its Reno location with a packed event that had local beer enthusiasts buzzing. Known for its bold beer styles and vibrant atmosphere, this Pennsylvania-based brewery made a big splash in the Biggest Little City.

Let’s dive into what makes the newest addition to Reno’s craft beer lineup so special.

Voodoo Brewery in Reno, NV

From Pennsylvania to Reno: A Brewing Adventure

Voodoo Brewing Co. has its roots in Pennsylvania, where it operates several brewpubs and franchises. While the brand already boasts locations in Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and South Carolina, Reno marks its first foray into the West. This franchise, owned by Mike and Amy Hitchcock, is just the beginning, with a Las Vegas location also in the works.

Situated in the Plumgate Shopping Center, the Reno Voodoo Brewing Co. location transformed the former Napa Sonoma space, which had been sitting empty for nearly a year. It’s now not only a bustling craft beer hotspot but also the only eatery open for lunch in the shopping center.

Vibrant Atmosphere

Step inside, and you’re greeted by bold, colorful murals that instantly set the tone for a fun and lively experience. The spacious interior features communal tables, a long bar, and creative seating made from wood pallets. It’s a welcoming spot for groups large and small, offering both a community vibe and a touch of individuality.

The Beers: Bold, Fun, and Flavorful

Voodoo Brewing Co. is all about its own craft beers, offering a wide range of styles to suit every palate. Whether you’re an IPA lover or prefer something lighter, the best way to explore their lineup is with a sampler tray. Choose the IPA-only sampler (featuring six hoppy brews) or mix it up with their flagship and seasonal beers, all showcased with daring names on the wall.

Must-Try Beers:

  • Empty Calories: A light beer with only 100 calories but full of flavor, perfect for Coors Light fans looking for an upgrade.
  • Black VooDoo Daddy: A rich, bold stout that’s either a delight or a daring challenge, depending on your taste.
  • Vibrant Seltzers: Sugar-free, low-calorie seltzers in electric hues, like neon blue berry and bright pink watermelon.

And if you find a favorite, you’re in luck—grab cans from their beer fridge or fill a growler to take home.

Signature Cocktails with a Twist

Not a beer fan? No problem. Voodoo Brewing Co.’s cocktails are as bold as its brews. These drinks are fun, flavorful, and made with a little “voodoo magic.”

Cocktail Highlights:

  • Honeydew Pear Mule: A fruity twist on the classic mule.
  • Cucumber Gin Gimlet: Cool and refreshing with a crisp finish.
  • Maple Manhattan: A sweet-and-smoky nod to tradition.
  • Mango Ginger Margarita: A tropical delight with a zesty kick.

Food to Satisfy Every Appetite

Pair your drinks with a menu that offers everything from elevated bar food to lighter fare.

Fan Favorites:

  • Caesar Wrap: A portable take on the classic salad, complete with croutons, wrapped in a sundried tomato tortilla.
  • Truffle Pomme Frites: Fries tossed in truffle oil, parmesan cheese, and rosemary.
  • Smokehouse Mac: Cheesy, smoky, and oh-so-comforting, topped with bacon, barbecue sauce, and tang bang onions.

The menu also includes wings, burgers, sandwiches (called “handies”), kids’ meals, and even non-alcoholic desserts like ice cream handies.

We are working on a massive project here at The Beer Thrillers. We are creating a map of all of the breweries across the United States. State by state we are adding maps of all of the different states with every brewery in each state. (We will eventually get to the US Territories, as well as the Canadian Provinces, and possibly more countries; as well as doing some fun maps like a map of all the breweries we’ve been to, and other fun maps.) You can find the brewery maps here:

We are also working on a project of creating printable and downloadable PDFs and resources to be able to check and keep track of all of the breweries you’ve been to. So stay tuned for that project once we are finished with the Brewery Maps of the US States.

Beer Review: Petes Secret Stache (Revision Brewing Company) https://thebeerthrillers.com/2020/02/16/beer-review-petes-secret-stache-revision-brewing-company/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=beer-review-petes-secret-stache-revision-brewing-company Sun, 16 Feb 2020 14:56:30 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=2226
Pete’s Secret Stache by Revision Brewing Company, on draft at Pizza Boy Brewing (Al’s of Hampden) in Enola, Pennsylvania

Some things work out. Like when you stop at a brand new brewery after work and find its at max capacity so you stop at Pizza Boy… and they have Hill Farmstead on tap (Florence) and Revision Brewing on tap. Not often we get to see Revision here in the Central PA area.

Revision Brewing Company is a microbrewery out of Sparks, Nevada. As per Untappd: “Revision Brewing Company was formed in August of 2015 when Jeremy Warren, Founder and Brewmaster of Knee Deep Brewing Company chose to pursue a new avenue of creativity and excellence in craft beer. Revision Brewing Company opened in March 2017 in Sparks, Nevada. We have a core lineup of hoppy beers, complemented by our lagers, Humulus Lupulus series, experimental brews and a pretty rad Barrel-Aging program. Thank you and cheers!” They have 183 unique beers listed on Untappd for a global rating of 4.05.

Its nice when you find breweries from regions you don’t get too often in the local area, and its nice to give them a try, especially when its a brewery I’ve heard a buzz about online before. So after I ordered the Hill Farmstead Florence while waiting til Liquid Noise would empty out a bit before getting to check them out, I ordered this as well and definitely enjoyed it.

Hard to hate on a beautiful beer can label like this.

I had to search and put up a picture of the can art on this beauty, love it. Makes you wonder who this mythical and legendary Pete was…. and what his secret stash… (…I mean Stache….) included….

Pete’s Secret Stache

Beer: Pete’s Secret Stache
Brewery: Revision Brewing Company
Style: IPA – New England
ABV: 6.5%
IBU: 35
Untappd Write-Up: Pete pedaled deep into the Sierras, dead set on a legendary expedition. Along the way he ran out of rations, and when he finally arrived at the brewery he wasn’t the same dude, he was in a HAZE. He was babbling about discovering an oasis where Amarillo and Citra glowed pink in the Sierra sunset. Pete’s Secret Stache… unchained, unfiltered and hazed out.

Certainly sounds like this Pete is a mythical and legendary creature rivaling the legends of old, possibly surpassing them. Luckily the beer does homage to that and is a fitting testimony to this legendary figure.

Appearance is hazy through and through, complete opaque and bright orange. Nice small head to it and very bubbly and effervescent. Completely unfiltered, little bits of floaters bouncing about in the glass, and it is certainly hazy and dank.

Aroma is super hoppy. Bright hoppy notes as soon as you come within three foot of the glass. Like a good hazy New England IPA should be. This is a strong and vibrant nose of hops. You have the two most citrusy forward hops on the market in this bad boy – Citra hops (gee where’d they ever up come up with the name for these hops?) and Amarillo hops. The combination is bountiful and makes this so aromatic.

Just like the aroma punches you right away with the hops, so does the taste. At first sip your tongue just lights up with all of the citrus from these hops. If you don’t like citrus, this might be a bit too much for you, but I don’t think its really an issue. Its just an abundant, great, fantastic taste. This has a bright smooth wallop of the hops and citrus. There is no bitterness at all this to it, you wouldn’t expect 35 IBU or any IBU’s to be honest. Outside of that genuine hop flavor you’d have no idea this was an IPA its that smooth and with no hop bite or bitterness. There is a slight creamyness to it, that makes me feel there has to be some lactose in this (to some degree anyway), probably not enough to really call it a Milkshake IPA (but then again, the lines are so blurred on New England IPA, Haze IPA, Milkshake IPA, etc, that their all basically interchangeable at this point). It could be just that its that smooth that it feels like there should be lactose in it as well, don’t know. But this is a very easy drinking beer (I think I finished it super fast, all but gulping it down). It was extremely enjoyable and easy to drink that fast too, luckily at only 6.5% its not much of an issue.

My Untappd Rating: ****
