Liberty Ale by Anchor Steam Brewing – a truly patriotic brew.

As the 2024 U.S. presidential election approaches, craft breweries across the nation are once again tapping into the political spirit with creative, election-themed brews. These special releases not only celebrate our democratic process but also provide beer enthusiasts with unique flavors to savor while awaiting election results. Let’s explore some of the most interesting election-inspired craft beers you can enjoy this November.

Pliny for President: A Hoppy Contender

Russian River Brewing Company, known for its iconic Pliny the Elder, has been “running” Pliny for President every election year since 2004. For the 2024 election cycle, they’ve developed a new recipe that’s sure to win over hop lovers:

  • Style: Triple Dry-Hopped IPA
  • ABV: 7%
  • Flavor Profile: Strong notes of stone fruit, tropical flavors, citrus, pine, and resin
  • Availability: Multiple batches throughout 2024, starting December 12, 2023

This special brew showcases Russian River’s commitment to both quality craft beer and engaging with the political process in a lighthearted way.

(See our beer review on Pliny the Elder.)

Bipartisan Brews: Uniting Beer Lovers Across Party Lines

Beer and Patriotism

Several breweries have created beers that playfully reference both major political parties, allowing drinkers to enjoy a cold one regardless of their political leanings:

The U.N.I.T.Y. by 1310 Kitchen & Bar (Washington, D.C.)

This election special, named after Queen Latifah’s song, aims to bring people together over a shared love of craft beer.

Purple Patch’s Sherry Week Specials

Coinciding with Election Day, this Filipino restaurant in Washington, D.C. offers $8 or $10 pours of specialty sherries, providing a sophisticated alternative to beer while watching election coverage.

Politically Charged Pints

Some breweries use their beers to make more direct political statements or engage voters:

The 270 Challenge at Royal Sands (Washington, D.C.)

This clever promotion ties into the electoral college:

  • Offering Blue, Red, and Purple themed drinks
  • If 270 drinks are sold by the end of the night (representing the electoral votes needed to win the presidency), the entire bar receives a round of shots
  • Starts at 5 p.m. on Election Day

Responsible Drinking on Election Day

While these election-themed beers add a fun element to the political process, it’s crucial to remember the importance of responsible consumption, especially on Election Day. Many bars and restaurants are offering special promotions to encourage civic participation:

  • Dirty Water (Washington, D.C.): 10% off for showing your “I Voted” sticker
  • Midlands Beer Garden (Washington, D.C.): $5 beers all night while showing election results on all TVs
  • Whitlow’s (Washington, D.C.): $5 Bud Light drafts and $8 Front Porch Rocker Teas

Craft Beer’s Role in Political Engagement

The trend of election-themed craft beers highlights how the brewing industry can play a unique role in political engagement. By creating these special releases, breweries:

  1. Encourage political awareness and participation
  2. Provide a common ground for people with different political views
  3. Add a touch of levity to what can be a tense political climate

Voting Themed Beers

Second Sin Brewing’s “I Voted for Kang” and “I Voted for Kodos”

Second Sin Brewing released two beers – “I Voted for Kang” and “I Voted for Kodos”.

Brews and Ballots: How Beer is Shaping the 2024 Election

As the 2024 election approaches, craft breweries are tapping into the political zeitgeist with creative, election-themed beers. This trend has been fueled by recent high-profile moments connecting politicians and beer culture.

Vice President Kamala Harris made waves during her appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” by cracking open a can of Miller High Life. This strategic choice not only connected her with everyday Americans but also highlighted Wisconsin’s brewing heritage, a key swing state in the upcoming election, Harris’s beer moment has inspired local breweries to consider creating their own “High Life” themed brews for Election Day parties.

Meanwhile, Ohio Senate candidate JD Vance went viral with a campaign video featuring him holding a six-pack of Old Style beer. His catchy tagline, “Make Six Packs Great Again,” tapped into the cultural significance of beer in American social life. This clever marketing could inspire breweries to create limited-edition beers that play off political themes during election seasons.

The concept of “beer polls” has also gained traction, where voters express their candidate preference based on who they’d rather share a drink with. Recent polls suggest more voters would prefer to have a beer with Kamala Harris over Donald Trump, showcasing how beer can be intertwined with political likability.

Savvy breweries are capitalizing on this trend by creating special labels or events themed around these findings. As Election Day approaches, craft beer enthusiasts can expect to see more politically-inspired brews hitting the taps. Whether you’re toasting to democracy or drowning your political sorrows, there’s sure to be a craft beer that speaks to your political palate. Just remember to drink responsibly, especially before heading to the polls!

Conclusion: Toasting to Democracy

Whether you’re celebrating a win, commiserating a loss, or simply participating in the democratic process, there’s likely an election-themed craft beer to suit your taste. As you enjoy these creative brews, remember that the true spirit of Election Day lies in exercising your right to vote and participating in our democracy. So raise a glass to the American political process, savor the craftsmanship of these election-inspired beers, and most importantly, make your voice heard at the ballot box. Cheers to democracy and great craft beer!

You can find lots of fun Instagram posts of people decking themselves out in gear and regalia for the voting and for the drinking, like Stouts and Stilletos Instagram post. Obviously also; there’s just a ton of vitriol and political annoyances on Instagram as well (albeit far less than on Facebook or Twitter) so be weary. Also, as always, beer and Instagram tends to lean towards a lot of “posting for the algorithm” of women in revealing outfits, so be forewarned about that as well.

As you gather with friends and family to discuss the issues that matter most to you, let these craft beers serve as conversation starters. Each sip can spark discussions about policies, candidates, and the future of our nation. Supporting local breweries not only enhances your voting experience but also strengthens community ties. Many breweries are hosting events that encourage civic engagement, offering discounts for those who show their “I Voted” stickers or organizing watch parties for election coverage. This Election Day, take a moment to reflect on the power of your vote and the role that craft beer plays in fostering community spirit. The act of voting is a celebration of freedom and choice, much like selecting your favorite brew from a diverse tap list. So whether you’re sipping an IPA with friends or enjoying a stout while watching the results roll in, remember that each beer has its own story—just like each voter has their own voice. Let’s raise our glasses not just to the beers we love but to the democracy we cherish. Cheers! Cheers to democracy and great craft beer!

(PS: We voted today. Was number 200 at 8:30 AM at our small town voting district. You can check out our Instagram to see our ‘I Voted’ Post.) (Instagram: The_Beer_Thrillers)

J Wakefield Brewing Announcing Their Closing

As a nerd, a Star Wars fan, and a geek, this brewery closing hurts. J. Wakefield Brewing has become one of the powerhouse breweries along the Eastern Coast, and one of the top and premier breweries of Florida. Known for their fun, quirky, nerdy beer names and can art, and a wonderful looking taproom with great murals all over it. Today, at 5 PM, J. Wakefield Brewing announced via Facebook (and as well as Instagram) that they will be closing their Wynwood location. (Located at 120 NW 24th St, Miami, FL 33127)

All is not lost, as it does look like they are actively trying to find a new location. Hopefully sooner rather than later. No word on where or when this might come to fruition, but we will keep you updated, when we get the information ourselves.

Your presence and enthusiasm have been the heartbeat of our taproom and each Wakefest that we’ve hosted. We have cherished every pint, and every story told within these walls. It has been a privilege to be part of such a vibrant community.
While we will be saying goodbye to our current location, we want you to know that our passion for brewing remains as strong as ever. We will continue to craft the same quality beers you have come to love and will stay actively engaged in the community through events, tap takeovers, and collaborations around the city.

Beer Review: I’m 40% Galaxy (Local Craft Beer) https://thebeerthrillers.com/2024/07/29/beer-review-im-40-galaxy-local-craft-beer/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=beer-review-im-40-galaxy-local-craft-beer Tue, 30 Jul 2024 01:00:24 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=15346 Beer Review: I’m 40% Galaxy (Local Craft Beer)

I’m 40% Galaxy by Local Craft Beer

Futurama is Back Baby

Futurama aired it’s first episode of “Season 12” (and I put that in quotations) on Hulu today (or Disney+ if you have the bundle). The A-plot is another Bender existentialism episode where he meets his family from Mexico, and the B-plot is a heist about stealing NFT’s.

While the idea being the NFT’s is pretty cringe and very dated at this point, the overall episode is pretty solid (as most Bender episodes are). Its not as funny as the FOX era or some of the best Comedy Central episodes, but its a decent episode, that on first viewing I felt “meh” about due to the NFT story beats, but then with a second viewing I enjoyed a bit more. Most likely falling in the 6.5 or 7/10 range for me.

Interestingly Danny Trejo voices Doblando, and I am currently reading his book – Trejo.

I’ll post more thoughts on the episode, and some references and things after the beer review.

Beer Review

I’m 40% Galaxy by Local Craft Beer (LCB)

Brewery: Local Craft Beer (LCB)
Style: Triple New England / Hazy IPA
ABV: 10%
IBU: 15
Untappd Description: More like 80% Galaxy but Bender doesn’t care as long as it’s beer!

As Bender might say, “I’m 40% Galaxy” is 100% amazing. This Triple New England IPA from Local Craft Beer (LCB) pours an inviting, hazy golden-yellow, reminiscent of a glowing sunset over New New York. Topped with a thick, creamy white head that shows impressive retention, it leaves a delicate lace that would make even the most indifferent of robots take notice.

The aroma of this beer is an olfactory feast dominated by the hallmark characteristics of Galaxy hops. Imagine Fry’s favorite Slurm drink, but transformed into an explosion of tropical fruit aromas featuring passion fruit, ripe peach, and zesty citrus. These fruity notes are complemented by subtle undertones of pine and resin, adding complexity and depth, much like the intricate plots of “Futurama.”

From the first sip, “I’m 40% Galaxy” delivers a smooth and juicy experience that would make Leela trade in her single-eye view for a taste. The tropical fruit flavors take center stage, with passion fruit, mango, and pineapple dancing on the palate like Hypnotoad’s mesmerizing performances. The sweetness from the malt is perfectly balanced by a gentle bitterness, ensuring that the beer remains refreshing and not cloying, akin to the refreshing humor that “Futurama” fans adore.

The mouthfeel of this Triple NEIPA boasts a medium to full body with a luxuriously creamy, velvety texture. The moderate carbonation provides a lively yet smooth drinking experience, much like a seamless delivery run by the Planet Express crew. Despite the high ABV, the alcohol is well-masked, making the beer dangerously easy to drink, even for a robot with Bender’s legendary tolerance.

The finish is long and satisfying, with lingering notes of tropical fruit and a mild, resinous bitterness. There’s a subtle warmth from the alcohol, reminding you of the beer’s strength, but it remains well-integrated and pleasant. This is a beer that, like the best episodes of “Futurama,” leaves you wanting more.

“I’m 40% Galaxy” by Local Craft Beer is a stellar example of a Triple New England IPA, showcasing the beloved Galaxy hop in all its tropical glory. The balance of flavors, the creamy mouthfeel, and the masterful hiding of the high ABV make this beer a must-try for hop enthusiasts. Its complexity and depth ensure that each sip offers something new, making it a perfect subject for a detailed review. Just as “Futurama” continues to captivate with its blend of humor and heart, this beer captivates with its blend of flavors and aromas. Cheers to a beer that would make the Planet Express crew proud!

My Untappd rating: ****
Global Untappd Rating: 4.02 (as of 7.29.24)

Futurama Season 12

Futurama Season 12 picks up after the 10 episode “Season 11” aired last year (2023) on Hulu. In 2025 there will be another additional 10 episodes, and then another 10 in 2026. So, I suppose you could say – Futurama is DEFINITELY Back Baby!

Season 11 of Futurama on Hulu (and I am using Hulu’s season and episode numbering here) was…. ok. I reviewed some of the episodes (you can find the links below). I am hoping for a rebound season with Season 12, and this was a decent kick off to it.

For a list of the Futurama episodes you can view the Wikipedia article here: List of All Futurama Episodes.

I might post some more video reviews the episodes from this season, if I do, they will most likely come out on Wednesdays or Thursdays. We’ll see. Would everyone want to see them?

𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐧’𝐬 𝐋𝐚𝐰!

Zapp Brannigan: Brannigan’s Law is like Brannigan’s love: hard and fast.

Zapp Brannigan

Intermission Beer Company from 10089 Brook Road, Unit A, Glen Allen, VA, United States, Virginia has released Brannigan’s Law! – a Braggot beer; styled like an Irish Red Ale. Braggot is a honey beer (similar to mead) and typically higher in ABV although Brannigan’s Law! comes in at 6.1% ABV. It is also Gluten Reduced which is certainly a plus for many people.

Zapp Brannigan: I don’t pretend to understand Brannigan’s Law. I merely enforce it.

Zapp Brannigan

Brannigan’s Law! is available both on draft and in 16 oz pounder cans from the brewery. They are located in Glen Allen, VA; just north of Richmond VA. They come in four packs or cases when bought at the brewery. (The brewery does not ship, and its only available at the brewery.) [So as a side note – if you live in the VA area and are able or willing to trade up to Central PA, we here at the blog would be forever grateful. Reach out via the CONTACT page and form to get ahold of us!]

Zapp Brannigan: April thirteenth… point two. We have failed to uphold Brannigan’s Law. However, I did make it with a hot alien babe. And, in the end, is that not what man has dreamt of since first he looked up at the stars? [A few seconds pass.] Kif, I’m asking you a question!

For More Information on Intermission Beer Co.

The following comes via Untappd.

Intermission Beer Company is a micro brewery from Glen Allen, VA. They have 49 unique beers and over 5,000 ratings, with a global average rating of 3.63 as of 4.17.24. Their Untappd description reads: “Justin and Courtney met at TheatreVCU. She was a Stage Management major, he was a Set Design major. Justin started home brewing with a few roommates during his college years. They both worked professionally in theater in Richmond, Williamsburg, Norfolk, and surrounding areas. Justin got back into home brewing after they bought a house in 2007. The house quickly filled with brewing supplies so they built a garage. The garage quickly got filled with brewing supplies as well! Shortly after Virginia Senate Bill 604 was passed in 2012, Justin and Courtney decided to open a brewery and to put their 2 passions together: Beer and the Arts! Thus, Intermission Beer Company was formed!”

Beer Review: Treats of Strength (Icarus Brewing) https://thebeerthrillers.com/2023/12/23/beer-review-treats-of-strength-icarus-brewing/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=beer-review-treats-of-strength-icarus-brewing Sat, 23 Dec 2023 18:00:00 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=13378 Happy Festivus

Its a Festivus for the Rest of Us! Happy Festivus everyone! How are you celebrating this tremendous holiday? Hopefully with some wonderful craft beer!

Today I’m taking a look at Treats of Strength by Icarus Brewing. As you can see in the background is the LEGO Seinfeld set.

Got this for the first time two years ago, and have been getting it each year since for Festivus. At the first time we had to do some finagling with Icarus Brewing’s in person shipping, and then had to get them from friends of friends.

For more Festivus beer fun – check out our Airing of Grievances review here: (Beer Review: Airing of Grievances (Black Flag Brewing Co.))

And now as Festivus rolls on, we come to the feats of strength.

And now, as Festivus rolls on, we come to the beer review.

Beer Review: Treats of Strength (Icarus Brewing)

Feats of Strength by Icarus Brewing (photo taken last year on a snow shovel day)

Beer: Treats of Strength
Brewery: Icarus Brewing
Style: Stout – Imperial / Double Pastry
ABV: 12.4%
IBU: N / A
Untappd Description: Traditional Chocolate Nutella Babka inspired Pastry stout brewed with Two Row Barley, Pale Chocolate Malt, Oated and Wheated. Conditioned on Organic Cacao Nibs and Hazelnut Flour for an extended period.

Let’s Rumble!

Lets deep dive into this delicious beer. First up is always appearance, and this beer is certainly a beauty. No grievances here yet. This is jet black – black like Razor Ramon’s hair, black as in black hole black. The head is a nice light brown, pillowy, foamy head with varied bubble sizes. Head retention is on point, and it leaves wonderful lacing on the glass as I sipped.

Aroma is a wonderful chocolate, like we’re just inhaling a dessert. All the rich, warm, decadent dessert notes you would expert from a pastry stout shine through – chocolate, cocoa nibs, vanilla, hazelnut, nutella; it all kind of makes a medley of a wonderful aroma for your nose when you sniff into the glass.

This is a very rich, decadent and delicious beer. Its also as Josh would say “A big damn beer” clocking in at 12.4% ABV, and ready to give you the liquid courage you need to best your old man at Feats of Strength. There’s no tinsel to this beer to distract you – its just pure dessert in a glass, you can tell its a pastry stout through and through. So gather around the Festivus pole and lets enjoy this sipper of a beer. This is full body, with a good heavy mouthfeel, a bit thick, slightly syrupy but not cloying and very minimal on the aspect of syrup. The chocolate / cocoa nibs shine through the best. The hazelnut is there like a hidden surprise peeking out as you sit back, relax after telling everyone all of your grievances, and enjoy yourself a big beer. This is a great Festivus – December 23rd – or winter beer, maybe even a Christmas beer if your into that kind of thing. Start a yule log or a fire going, put your feet up, and slowly sip this one long into the night. Its even perfect after a long shift at work where you only get home at nearly 11 PM at night after dealing with lots of humans all day (not that I would know or anything). If you love big stouts (12.4% ABV after all) that are heavy hitters, with not a ton of booze flavor, but a lot of real beer flavor – than get to Icarus Brewing and pick up some Treats of Strength to give you the strength and courage you need to defeat your dad in the Feats of Strength!

My Untappd Rating: ****.25
Global Untappd Rating: 4.05 (as of 12.23.23)

Treats of Strength – Festivus 2023

Airing of Grievances, Feats of Strength, and a Festivus Miracle

This was supposed to be a beer review I was gonna do two years ago in 2021. For whatever reason, I didn’t get around to it in 2021, and was too busy with Scarlet just having been born, and everything else in 2022. So here it is in 2023. (Check out – Airing of Grievances by Black Flag Brewing.)

So thats the Festivus Miracle – I finally wrote the review. On our Facebook page – we currently have a thread about craft beer ‘airing of grievances’ so you can check that out and add your grievance(s) to our growing list.

This is an article from Mental Floss about 9 things you didn’t know about Festivus:

For feats of strength – moving lots of kegs and pallets and pallets of beer today equals my feats of strength, so I’m enjoying relaxing and having a nice beer.

Cheers All and Thanks for Reading!

Beer Review: The Shining (Foam Brewers) https://thebeerthrillers.com/2023/10/31/beer-review-the-shining-foam-brewers/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=beer-review-the-shining-foam-brewers Tue, 31 Oct 2023 21:35:00 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=12812 All Hallow’s Eve

I’ve been saving this review for today – Halloween. All Hallow’s Eve. Because, lets be honest – what a perfect beer for Halloween right? Well… I mean… there’s literally thousands of other craft beers with Halloween inspired names I could choose from too…. but meh… I chose this one.

Anyway, as per the Britannica definition of Halloween and All Hallow’s Eve:

Halloween, contraction of All Hallows’ Eve, a holiday observed on October 31, the evening before All Saints’ (or All Hallows’) Day. The celebration marks the day before the Western Christian feast of All Saints and initiates the season of Allhallowtide, which lasts three days and concludes with All Souls’ Day.

Halloween | Definition, Origin, History, & Facts | Britannica

Its that perfect time for brews and boos and scares and jeers and leers. Walking around town doing Trick or Treat with the kiddos, and a nice craft beer in hand, enjoying the company of other scary bats and ghouls and goblins (or most likely a ton of kids in Marvel inspired outfits like Spider-Man or Iron Man). Nice fall weather, cold, but not frigid, light breeze, hoodie weather. Halloween is always just one of those perfect nights.

Shout Out to Emily

Firstly, I want to give a shout out to Emily at work for giving me the beer. Thanks a lot Em! Definitely one of the benefits of working at a brewery – is all the beer everywhere, and who doesn’t love that?

You can also see my initial impressions of the beer here: YouTube Review: Futurama: How the West was 1010001.

And in this article: Futurama Episode Review – How the West was 1010001 and Beer Review: The Shining (Foam Brewers)

Beer Review: The Shining by Foam Brewers

The Shining by Foam Brewers

Beer: The Shining
Brewery: Foam Brewers
Style: IPA – Imperial / Double New England / Hazy
ABV: 8%
IBU: N / A
Untappd Description: tasting notes: pineapple, mango, smoothie

All Work and No Play Makes Ben A Dull Boy… All Work and No Play Makes Ben a Dull Boy…

Or as Homer says:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufDqfQxPnJo
Homer: All Work and No Beer… Makes Homer… Something… Something…

So let’s dip into this great beer, enough thematics and dramatics. Lets just get down to it.

On appearance – this is a beautifully bright yellow hazy IPA. Almost a Simpsons’ yellow one might even say. This is a gorgeous looking beer. The hue is spot on for a New England (literally a New England) Hazy IPA; and the foam and retention is exactly what you expect from a brewery named “Foam Brewers”.

The aroma is wonderful as well with this, you could just stick your nose in the can, and inhale all day and be a happy hoppy IPA boy. Certainly not a dull boy. A powerful blast of hop notes assails you as soon as you are cracking the can open. A ton of passionfruit, mango, and pineapple overpower the senses almost immediately. All wonderfully blended together for one fantastic and terrific smell.

This certainly doesn’t feel like an 8% IPA. (For comparison’s sake – Perpetual IPA by Troegs Independent Brewing is a 7.5% West Coast IPA.) This is so clean, so smooth, so easy to drink, you would think it was a 4% Session IPA or something. This is a wonderfully rich, delicious drink, it is easy to see why it has tasting notes of “smoothie”, as its just so smooth, so rich, so delicious, and such a great blend of pineapple, mango, and passionfruit notes. The beer is overwhelmingly strong with pineapple and mango notes with background noise of passionfruit flavors. This isn’t a milkshake IPA but it certainly gives you ‘smoothie’ like feelings and ideas, and I’m all here for it. This is definitely one of my favorite ‘gift beers’ I’ve gotten, and I am very appreciative of Emily for it, as well as for the others my co – workers and people visiting the brewery have given me. But, this has been very much top of the pack so far.

My Untappd Rating: ****.25
Global Untappd Rating: 4.26 (as of 10.31.23)

The Shining

So lets get the question out there – which do you prefer? Stephen King’s novel The Shining or Stanley Kubrick’s movie adaptation The Shining? They are certainly two different beasts. Which do you prefer? Let me know in the comments!

Halloween

What is everyone’s plans for Halloween tonight? Amy and I will be taking Scarlet out trick or treating tonight. It will be her first trick or treat, so we’ll see how it goes. We have an Ewok costume for her. We might have pictures on Instagram, if we do, stay tuned for them.

Cheers!

Brewery Fire Celebrates Their Fourth Anniversary: The Power of the Fourth https://thebeerthrillers.com/2023/09/19/brewery-fire-celebrates-their-fourth-anniversary-the-power-of-the-fourth/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=brewery-fire-celebrates-their-fourth-anniversary-the-power-of-the-fourth Tue, 19 Sep 2023 15:35:18 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=12465
The Power of the Fourth: Brewery Fire is Celebrating their Fourth Anniversary on Saturday September 23rd from 11 AM to 10 PM

May The Fourth (Anniversary) Be With You

Brewery Fire is celebrating their fourth anniversary on Saturday September 23rd, from 11 AM to 10 PM. “The Power of the Fourth” comes to Taneytown Maryland as this fantastic brewery celebrates another personal trip around (just one) the sun of Earth. (Who knows maybe someday they’ll get to celebrate traveling around the Twin Suns of Tatooine.)

Going with style – they are releasing four Star Wars themed beers for their Fourth Anniversary. They are:

  • Rye Whiskey Barrel Aged Black Kakarye
  • Imperial Mangolorian
  • Bo-katon Red IPA
  • Warrior Wicket’s Brown Ale

We have reviewed a Mangalorian in the past – Beer Review: Mangolorian (Brewery Fire) (which we reviewed on May the Fourth in 2021).

We were lucky enough to receive the four pack ahead of their Anniversary Celebration, courtesy of Brewery Fire themselves. Thank you guys so very much! We will be diving into them this week.

Look for The Beer Thrillers to be having one on air while we do our Ahsoka Review episode tomorrow night with The Knights of Nostalgia. (The YouTube video will probably air in a week.) You can find our collaboration Ahsoka Episode Reviews at The Knights of Nostalgia YouTube Channel here: Knights of Nostalgia on YouTube.

A big thank you to Brewery Fire for the courtesy beers! Be sure to check back here at the blog to see our beer reviews of each of the four beers!

Most likely with the first occurring tomorrow! Possibly connected with my Futurama Episode Reviews – which you can find at our YouTube Channel here: The Beer Thrillers on YouTube.

The Power of the Fourth

Be sure to check out Brewery Fire’s event page on Facebook: 4 Year Anniversary: Power of the Fourth!

From the about page on their events page:

Come celebrate our 4th anniversary with us! We are so appreciative of you all and we have some great beers we are excited to bring out! Besides the beer, we will have food, music, and some new merch!

Food Trucks: It’s All Good, Collision Course, and The Queens Bakery!
Music: Three Sheets and The Wind and The Brian Banks Band

We will also have 4 Anniversary beer releases!
– Limited mixed 12oz four packs including:
Rye Whiskey Barrel Aged Black Kakarye
Imperial Mangolorian
Bo-katon Red IPA
Warrior Wicket’s Brown Ale

We will also be release an amazing 4th Anniversary T-shirt!

We will post pictures as we brew the beers so you can see the progress!

The Discussion Tab on the events page has some wonderful pics of the beers being transferred to the brite tank, as well as post – packaging. This is really shaping up to be a fantastic event with some amazingly good beers! (I know I can’t wait to dive into mine.)

Brewery Fire is located at 4337 Old Taneytown Road STE B, Taneytown, MD, United States, Maryland.

Promo Still for Parasites Regained on Hulu

Week Four and Episode Four of the Not So Futurama Monday… Monday…. or Thursday…..

I have the mental image (and voice) in my head of the near opening scene of Encanto when the one guy gives Mirabelle a gift and says its the “Not Special Special Gift… Because Your Not Special”.

So this is the Not Futurama Monday – Monday – but on Thursday video review. Have no fear though – with my new work schedule they may be late – they won’t be forgotten, and I fully intend to make sure I still do video reviews of all ten episodes. You can find all of the videos here at the Futurama Episode Playlist.

You can also follow along with our Futurama articles here:

Futurama Mondays

Thus far, these are the Futurama Monday articles:

Ahsoka

Have no fear – we are still pumping out the Futurama content, even if the video reviews are a few days behind. But ontop of that, Drew (of Knights of Nostalgia) and myself are doing video reacts to the Ahsoka show. We are getting drunk, belligerent, and then watching the show. You can find those videos at the Knights of Nostalgia YouTube Channel.

The Beer

My beer for this week’s episode is Mow and Flow. The Barrel and Flow collab that Eleventh Hour did for the brewfest. This was gifted to myself by a worker from Eleventh Hour when he stopped in at work. So thanks to him and thanks to Eleventh Hour!

Video Review

Parasites Regained

You can also go directly to the YouTube channel to watch the video here: Futurama Episode Review – Parasites Regained.

Please head over to YouTube by clicking the above video and checking out our YouTube page. Also please subscribe to be able to get more future YouTube content from us. We will be posting a weekly review of each episode of Futurama every Monday when they release. As well as there will be plenty more content.

And of course – make sure you “smash” that like button, subscribe button, and hit the notification button. Otherwise Nixon will sneak into your house at night and wreck up the place.

Futurama Mondays

Thus far, these are the Futurama Monday articles:

Mow and Flow by Eleventh Hour

Mow and Flow by Eleventh Hour

Beer: Mow and Flow
Brewery: Eleventh Hour Brewing
Style: IPA – Imperial / Double New England / Hazy
ABV: 8%
IBU: N / A
Untappd Description: Brewed to celebrate the official Royal Couple of Wilkinsburg, we started with the King & Queen of hazy IPA hops, Citra & Mosaic. A hearty blanket of flaked oats gives this a pillowy soft mouthfeel, with a big punch of Simcoe to round out the beer. The resulting liquid has a sticky & dank aroma up front blending effortlessly with the citrus and stone fruit for a beautiful final product. It’s a great beer to celebrate Wilkinsburg and to bring attention to the efforts of these two amazing individuals.
Global Average Rating: 4.12 (as of 8.24.23)
My Untappd Rating: ****

After the video, I took the beer outside to help assist me in the hop harvest. Look for a beer review of this beautiful beer coming soon.

I Apologize For Nothing (by Fourscore Beer Company)

Another Futurama Monday

Welcome back for another Futurama Monday! Did you know Hulu has the episodes up basically at midnight?! I didn’t! I thought it was like Disney+ and other services where a new episode usually airs at 3:00 AM EST, but I got on last night and the newest episode was on already at 12:54 AM (EST) when I checked it out. Totally awesome and good to know I can get an early jump on each Futurama episode (since I only get to bed usually around 1 AM – 2 AM every night anyway).

Today’s Futurama themed beer is an older beer – but I did the review quite a while ago, and saved it. I had been waiting and deciding when to post the review – and then found out that the series was coming back and I thought – perfect, I’ll just wait to post it when the new season comes up. So here it is, now to be posted with the new season.

I Apologize For Nothing (pictured with Hedonism Bot on the label) came out for the Fourscore Beer Company’s 3rd Anniversary Celebration last year. (And coincidentally, they are ramping up their celebrations for this upcoming week which will be their fourth anniversary celebration. Check their Facebook page for all of their announcements. You can also see Wade Leedy posting in the Gettysburg Beer group as well about information.) Fourscore Beer Company did a big 3rd Anniversary Celebration last year with a lot of new releases and I Apologize For Nothing was one of them.

I Apologize For Nothing

I Apologize for Nothing!

A memorable quote from one of the more tertiary characters of the show – Hedonism Bot. He is only in 14 episodes and 3 of the movies, and rarely has more than one or two lines – one of which is the above line (repeated a few times over the various episodes).

In 3003, Hedonismbot attended the Big Robot Party (4ACV08). In 3004, he attended the CalculonCoilette wedding (4ACV13), and asked Fry to write an opera (4ACV18). In 3007, he saw the professor‘s doomsday devices (BBS). In 3008, he was present at the League of Robots when Bender entered the league (TBWABB). In 3009, he attended the Violet Dwarf Star Implosion (ITWGY). In 3010, he supported Proposition ∞ (6ACV04), he made a big party to celebrate his wedding to a house (6ACV07), saw Amy and Kif at the Hip Joint (6ACV08), and attended the 100th Delivery Party (6ACV12). In 3014, he was with the Planet Express Crew and the Simpsons during “the end of the world” (SABF16).

……

Hedonismbot’s behaviour resembles that of a rich decadent Roman noble of ancient times, and he is a great patron of the opera with his very own box in the Metropolitan House of Opera – he even commissioned Fry to write an opera in which Fry would perform the Holophonor (4ACV18).

Hedonismbot also enjoys a number of unconventional hedonistic pleasures, including being covered in chocolate icing, sex orgies and robosexuality.

Hedonismbot was to be married to a house in the suburbs in July of 3010, but the night before, he held a bachelor party where, due to a nuclear powered stripper malfunctioning, he was the only survivor. It is unclear if he was married or not, but as evidenced by a party in September, his hedonistic ways of promiscuity have not changed.

In a season three commentary, Matt Groening points out the importance of the name being Hedonismbot and not Hedonistbot – he is not only hedonist, he is the actual personification of hedonism.

In 3013, Leela called him a senator (7ACV21).

Hedonism Bot – The Infosphere (Futurama Wikipedia)

As his name suggests – he is a robot based around hedonism. Kind of a Caligula styled design and character attitude, all about wanton and based lusts.

Beer Review: I Apologize For Nothing

I Apologize For Nothing by Fourscore Beer Company

Beer: I Apologize For Nothing
Brewery: Fourscore Beer Co.
Style: IPA – Triple New England / Hazy
ABV: 10%
IBU: N / A
Untappd Description: Built off a base of American 2 Row and Chit malts with loads of malted and flaked oats and a very large dose of powdered Australian Sauvignon Blanc whole grape powder. Hopped in the kettle with Calypso and Centennial Cryo and triple dry hopped with Kohatu, Citra Cryo and Emerald Spire. The grape powder provides a melon forward aromatic profile that is followed by notes of under ripe pineapple and pine needles. The grape follows through in the flavor on top of a soft and juicy base. More floral notes are present here along with watermelon rind, candied pineapple and bright citrus

Bammo! Hedonism all over on this big bad TIPA (Triple IPA). It hits you right out of the gate as you start to pour it with a heady aroma of hops knocking those hedonistic senses right out of you. The Citra really shines on the nose and aroma, and you get a wealth of fruity flavors ranging from grape, pineapple, and a bit of mango and grapefruit to kind of round it out. This is a bright, juicy, powerful beer, just from the aroma alone.

The appearance is a beautiful light straw color, with a wonderful fluffy, cloud like head to it. Very soft, very pillowy, airy and light looking. (Don’t let that fool you though.) It is opaque and hazy like a New England hazy IPA should be, no real noticeable floating sediment, and as you drink it, it left wonderful lacing on the glass.

Already I know this is going to be a killer beer. As good as an explosion at Hedonism Bot’s bachelor party. (“There was bodies everywhere…. and then the explosion happened!”) Big time carbonation and continued fermentation here; big fruit flavors and the grape powder adds a nice tartness. There is a lot of flavors and interactions going on with this big bad boy of a TIPA. The tartness is paired with sweeter, gummies citrus notes Sweet, but TIPAs need that to counter the booze. The sweetness does counter balance the tartness nicely, and the hops, even New England / Hazy TIPAs can get a bit too much hop character, too much hop bite, and can be too green – they just need that fruit, that sweet, that wealth of flavors and aromas to counterbalance – otherwise it can be a bit too much, especially the higher ABV they get, the more boozy they can sometimes taste and feel. This is a very intricate and balanced beer with a lot of nuanced tastes and notes to be discovered as you drink it. Its not a sipper like a bourbon barrel aged barleywine or anything, but certainly not one you can crush or should be drinking too fast. Definitely don’t think its a four – pack in an evening type of beer either (more like one or two at most).

My Untappd Rating: ****

(I don’t even know if I have the right binary above, but lets go with it.) Quick thoughts on today’s episode – I enjoyed it. So far might be my favorite episode of the season. Dwight does sound off, not sure if they recast him, or if its a thing of aging, but he sounds off. I did enjoy Roberto, Borax Kid, and all of the little character arcs of the episode. It was just a fun, old school, zany Futurama episode. Not all of the jokes fully landed, but they were still on brand for the most part, and were fun. They didn’t have to do much exposition in the episode, and I just enjoyed it. Was just a fun, Futurama episode of old.
