Voodoo Brewing announced via social media that their Pittsburgh, North Shore location is closing. Tuesday – June 3rd, 2025 will be its last day where you’ll be able to have a chance to go in and grab a beer. They opened August 27th, 2022. (Voodoo Brewing to Open Pittsburgh North Shore Location on August 27th) The Pittsburgh Pub is located on the North Shore at 337 N Shore Dr, Pittsburgh, PA 15212 (in between PNC Park and Acrisure Stadium; formerly Heinz Field).

Several Voodoo Brewpubs closed in 2024 and even already in 2025.

Voodoo Pittsburgh Pub in North Shore Announces Closing

Yesterday via social media at 12:48 PM EST they announced that their brewpub on the North Shore (near the PNC Park and Southern Tier’s location) will be closing, with the “last day to grab a beer with us here” is Tuesday (June 3rd, 2025).

Their post reads:

What a blast it’s been serving the North Shore.
After almost three years, we’ve made the call to close the pub so we can double down on what we do best: brewing world-class beer and making it more available throughout Pennsylvania. This shift will allow us to improve our production, expand distribution, and support our growing network of franchise locations across the country.
We’re entering the final days of our North Shore pub and Tuesday will be the last chance to grab a beer with us at this location. We will be open tomorrow, Monday June 2nd, at 2 PM serving up $5 draft beers.
Thank you to everyone who stopped in and supported us on the North Shore and to our staff who made it happen every single day. If you’ve been meaning to visit, now’s the time.
Come raise a glass and help us close things out right. It’s not good bye, it’s I’ll see you later.
The comment section is certainly interesting, with a mixed reaction of “oh no” to “wow, only two days notice for employees” to “what a shocker, another Voodoo Brewpub closing”. One commenter in particular saying:
woohoo 30 people no longer have jobs and they gave everyone a 2 day notice during the busiest time of the year. 🔥 another amazing business choice. ill never forget when they decided to lay off several people on christmas eve and when the owner TRIED to make us take down our pride flags. i hope this brand goes to shit as its clearly on its way there.
V’s down
With a follow up reply to that comment:

I was hoping someone would call them out on this one! I don’t understand why companies think that’s ok! I’m sure most of the hiring for summer has already taken place so that leaves these employees in an even tougher spot!

The comments followed up with rumors of what might be going into the location – possibly a “Shorty’s”.

They later posted this, at 6:09 PM via Facebook:

Voodoo Brewing Co. Pittsburgh Pub Talking About Monday’s Hours

We will be open tomorrow, Monday, June 2nd beginning at 2pm for $5 Draft beers. Come see the gang one last time on the North Shore before we close our doors Tuesday Night.

Voodoo Brewing Co. Pittsburgh Pub (Facebook Post)

Just as before, mixed comments were left. Voodoo Brewing hasn’t responded to any as of my time of writing this (4:00 PM June 2nd).

One comment saying:

I do not understand why anyone would want to waste their time and money for a company that has zero respect for their employees.
For your business to give your employees no notice that they are losing their jobs is absolutely absurd and speaks volumes.
You guys fucking suck, this is a blessing in disguise for your whole crew. They deserve better

Voodoo Brewpubs Closing

Seems to be a rash of Voodoo Brewing locations closing not just in 2024, but continuing into 2025. They are a franchise based brewery, so there is numerous locations. Some as far away (from Pennsylvania) as Reno Nevada (which has closed), which you can read about here: Voodoo Brewing Closes Reno Location.

As of June 2025, at least six Voodoo Brewing Company locations have closed during 2024 and 2025:

News and Updates

When we get more information, we’ll be sure to update this, and possibly make further articles with more news and updates about Voodoo Brewing, this location, and reasons for the closing.

For More Information on Voodoo Brewing

We have the following articles you can read:

For more information on Voodoo Brewing, the following comes via Untappd.

They are considered a “micro brewery” by Untappd, and listed as located at Meadville, PA. They have 691 unique beers and over 571,000 (just thirty – four shy of 572,000) ratings, with a global average rating of 3.94. As I click and open up their Untappd bio, I am going to assume it was hacked (or possibly an employee about to lose their job or just lost their job that still has access to the Untappd login ability) because this is what it says:

This is Voodoo Brewery, based in Meadville, PA, that opened a location in Valrico, FL. They have horrible beer that they brew themselves and skunk beer from other breweries; the service is atrocious and the vibes are mid at best despite their budget. Do not go to this expansionist corporate hell hole

Before clicking the “read more” you are just shown: “This is Voodoo Brewery, based in Meadville, PA, that opened a location in Valrico, F”

(I am quite curious when this update and change to their Untappd bio was made.)

Butler Brew Works Announces Taproom Closure https://thebeerthrillers.com/2025/04/01/butler-brew-works-announces-taproom-closure/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=butler-brew-works-announces-taproom-closure Tue, 01 Apr 2025 13:58:38 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=16192 Butler Brew Works Announces Taproom Closure

It always has to be hard to make these kinds of announcements on April 1st; just due to the immediate “this has to be an April Fools Joke right?” comments and responses. But; alas, no… this is no April Fools Joke. Today at 8:30 AM the Butler Brew Works Facebook announced that their tap room is closed until further notice. You can find their Facebook post here: Butler Works Announcement.

Butler Brew Works Social Media Announcement

Butler Brew Works Closed

You can read from their Facebook post here:

We apologize for any inconvenience, but our taproom will be closed until further notice.

-Butler Brew Works (Facebook Post)

As I alluded to above, most of the comments whirled around the “is this an April Fools Joke” with others refuting that – no – in fact its not. Despite Butler Brew Works not replying to the post themselves. There was one comment saying “not having a license can do that”, so I took a look to see, and found this: PLCB Status – Butler Brew Works. According to the PLCB; all four of their liquor licenses have expired. Two were for Brewery Storage, one was for a Brewery, and one was for a Brew Pub. All four have expired, with their last two expiring (Brewery Storage and Brewery) on December 31st, 2024. Meaning from January 1st until March 31st of this year they were operating without a license.

Their main brewery location was: 101 S Main St, Butler, PA 16001.

Their taproom location in Valencia was located at: 5031 Adair Ave, Valencia, PA 16059.

Both are already listed as “Permanently Closed” on Google Maps.

So it would indeed seem its hard to keep your tap room open when you do in fact not have a license.

Without operating with one for several months, and most likely getting caught and thus the shut down, I would hazard a guess that it might be quite a while til they re-open (if they do). We will keep you updated when we get more news.

Four Seasons Brewing is Currently Closed https://thebeerthrillers.com/2025/01/09/four-seasons-brewing-is-currently-closed/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=four-seasons-brewing-is-currently-closed Thu, 09 Jan 2025 17:55:58 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=15855 Four Seasons Brewing is Currently Closed

Four Seasons Brewing, out of Latrobe (greater Pittsburgh area) Pennsylvania, is currently closed. They first made a post on their social media (Facebook Post) yesterday at 2:01 PM just stating “Due to unforeseen circumstances, the pub will be closed today. We’ll see you tomorrow! 🍻” But now today, just about an hour ago they posted again, stating that they will be closed for an unforeseen while with no reopening date planned.

Four Seasons Brewing Company and Pub Announcement on Facebook

Four Seasons Brewing Company and Pub Closed Due to Forces Outside of Their Control

As of right now, we don’t have a lot of information, but it seems like the closure might be for a little while. Today at 11:13 AM they posted the following to their social media accounts:

As we’re sure most of you have heard, the brewery is closed until further notice. We do not have a reopen date, but will be sure to update once we do.
This decision was completely out of our control and we hope to have everything resolved quickly. Thanks to all of you for your continuous support over the years. We’ll see you soon 🍻
It does seem that they have a reopening in mind, and that this is temporary. How long it will be temporary is unknown, but by the sounds of this post; its not permanent.
Four Seasons Brewing Company and Pub is located at 745 Lloyd Avenue Ext, Latrobe, PA, United States, Pennsylvania. Latrobe is South East of Pittsburgh but is generally considered in the “Greater Pittsburgh” area (it is listed as being a part of the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Area).
Other breweries in Latrobe are:
  • Unity Brewing
  • City Brewing Company LLC

Is it a license issue?

It doesn’t seem to be a brewery’s license issue. When we looked it up on the PLCB site we found this:

Four Seasons Brewing Company and Pub’s Brewery License

So it would appear that they currently have their brewer’s license up and set until the end of 2025. (Typically brewery licenses are yearly and run calendar year, January 1st to December 31st.)

As we find out more we will keep everyone posted here on the blog.

Aurochs Brewing Company Announce Their Upcoming Closure

Aurochs Brewing Company Will Cease Operations by End of 2024

Aurochs Brewing Company located at 8321 Ohio River Blvd, Emsworth, PA 15202 will be ceasing operations by the end of 2024. Its the start of the new month, but sadly also the beginning of the end for Aurochs Brewing Company. Over 10 years in business (established in 2012) and unfortunately they have had to make the tough and difficult decision to close by the end of the year. Known as one of the only gluten-free producing breweries not just in Pennsylvania, but in the greater east coast region; Aurochs Brewing made a name for themsleves over the 12 years of their operations.

Aurochs Brewing Company

Aurochs Brewing Company, located just outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, specializes in crafting naturally gluten-free beers. Founded by Ryan and Doug, both of whom have personal experiences with gluten intolerance—Ryan diagnosed in his twenties and Doug with Celiac disease since childhood—the brewery was born from a desire to create flavorful craft beers that are safe for those with gluten sensitivities. Since its inception, Aurochs has produced over 40 different styles of gluten-free beer, focusing on high-quality ingredients such as millet, quinoa, and buckwheat sourced from dedicated gluten-free suppliers.
The brewery has gained recognition for its commitment to quality and taste, winning a Gold Medal at the 2020 Great American Beer Festival for its Aurochs Hazy IPA. Their core lineup includes six year-round offerings: Aurochs Blonde Ale, Session IPA, Amber Ale, Porter, Light Lager, and Hazy IPA. Each beer is brewed in a dedicated gluten-free facility, ensuring that all products are free from wheat, barley, and rye. This meticulous process not only guarantees safety for consumers but also emphasizes the brewery’s mission to provide great-tasting beer without compromise.
In addition to their brewing operations, Aurochs has embraced modern distribution methods by offering direct shipping within Pennsylvania and expanding to neighboring states. The brewery’s taproom invites visitors to enjoy a variety of beers on draft alongside gluten-free snacks. With a focus on community and sustainability, Aurochs Brewing Company continues to grow its customer base while maintaining its commitment to producing exceptional gluten-free craft beer for all occasions.

Aurochs Brewing Closing by End of 2024

The Announcement

Aurochs Brewing Company posted the following on social media just two hours ago:

The End of our Story
Thank you for your support of Aurochs Brewing Company through its existence. Over 10 years ago, we set out with the goal of “changing the way the world experiences gluten-free beer”. In that time we have seen that happen many times over and are extremely grateful to have been one part of that larger evolution.
Today, it is with a heavy heart that we announce that Aurochs Brewing Company will be ceasing operations by the end of the year 2024.
We are proud to have brewed great-tasting, award-winning, naturally gluten-free beers that have resonated with many of you. Through your patronage we have been able to grow our footprint and meet the needs of gluten-free beer drinkers across our region.
With the help of our amazing staff and supporters we have given this endeavor everything we have. After years of hard work, countless late or sleepless nights, navigating the challenges of a global pandemic, and the rigors of building and scaling a dedicated gluten-free brewery our founder team has run out of gas. Although the brewery continues to grow in our home market, we do not have the personal resources to go to the next level or to continue operations beyond this year.
We are eternally grateful to our customers, partners, investors, and employees (past and present) who have made this journey so special. From the moment we opened our doors 10 years ago, you have shown up consistently, supporting Aurochs and pushing our dream forward.
We plan to open our tasting room while there is still beer available. We will communicate about hours of operations and opportunities to purchase the last batches of Aurochs.
Additionally, beer will be available for shipping throughout Pennsylvania only while supplies last. Any orders placed this weekend will be shipped out on Tuesday (11/5) with tracking information.
Thank you for taking this journey with us, thank you for your passion and support.
Doug & Ryan

Dough Daddy Brewery Coming to Gibsonia

Looks like things are shaking up in Gibsonia PA. Maybe we should say – “things are on the rise” in Gibsonia? (What other great bakery or bready puns could we use?) Coming soon to Gibsonia, PA will be Dough Daddy Brewery. Taking over the Strange Roots Taproom there.  Located at 4399 Gibsonia Rd, Gibsonia, PA 15044 the Strange Roots taproom will soon become Dough Daddy Brewery.

Announcement

The following announcement was made on Strange Roots Experimental Ale’s social media accounts:

For the past year, we’ve been teaming up 🤝 with our friends at Caliente 🍕 Pizza and Draft House to bring their dream of Dough Daddy Beer to life. It’s been an amazing journey watching them craft their own unique flavors alongside us at our Gibsonia brewery.

And now, we’re thrilled to announce a big step forward for Dough Daddy Brewery: they’ll be taking over our Gibsonia taproom this Spring 💐 to make it their own!

But don’t worry, Strange Roots isn’t going anywhere! We’ll still be brewing up our strange beers 🍻 in Gibsonia, and both our Millvale and New Kensington taprooms will be open as usual.

We couldn’t be more excited to see Dough Daddy spread its wings and soar, and we’re honored to be part of their journey. Cheers to our Friends and the beginning of Dough Daddy Brewery! 🙏 😊 🍺 🍕

It looks from this announcement that they will still be brewing their beers in Gibsonia, and their taprooms in Millvale and New Kensington will be open and operational as usual. They are just giving away the taproom portion of the Gibsonia location to Dough Daddy Brewery. But still using it as a production facility.

They are the second brewery in the greater Pittsburgh area to announce an upcoming closure (Arboretum Trail Brewing is Closing Their Taproom). The other is Arboretum Trail Brewing – which is located on Washington Boulevard in Pittsburgh, and their last day will be August 31st.

Back in September of 2022; Mastic Trail Brewing had to shut down for a short while due to staffing issues and announced soon after that they would be re – opening. Sadly it seems everything has caught up.

Mastic Trail Brewing Announcement

They went on Facebook and Instagram and posted the following announcement:

Four years ago, we had a dream – to create Pittsburgh’s Caribbean Brewpub. We’d offer a variety of outstanding craft beers, tropical cocktails like you’d find at a resort, flavorful food made from the highest quality ingredients, and we’d do it all sustainably. And we did! And now it’s time to move on.

Our last day of business will be Saturday, September 2nd. Til then, we’ll be operating as usual – same hours, with our full menu, full list of beers – plus Mango Milkshake next week! – full cocktail menu. We want to give our guests our full Mastic Trail vibe til our last day! If any of that changes, we’ll let you know, so please check back often.

Our heartfelt thanks to our staff and guests who have stood by us through all the ups and downs – you have made this the experience of a lifetime. We wish health and happiness to you all.

We are working on a massive project here at The Beer Thrillers. We are creating a map of all of the breweries across the United States. State by state we are adding maps of all of the different states with every brewery in each state. (We will eventually get to the US Territories, as well as the Canadian Provinces, and possibly more countries; as well as doing some fun maps like a map of all the breweries we’ve been to, and other fun maps.) You can find the brewery maps here:

We are also working on a project of creating printable and downloadable PDFs and resources to be able to check and keep track of all of the breweries you’ve been to. So stay tuned for that project once we are finished with the Brewery Maps of the US States.

Sobel’s Obscure Brewery

If you are from the Pittsburgh area – or are a fan of dad jokes – you might know of Sobel’s Obscure Brewery. They are currently a small micro brewery in the greater Pittsburgh area (Jeannette, Pennsylvania), and have their beers distributed in the area. (I had my first – and sadly still only – beer from them while at The Meadows Casino outside of Pittsburgh, PA.) They are well known on social media for their dad jokes (I’ll have a section about that later in the article).

But first, before we get into their grand opening and discuss it, let’s take a look at Sobel’s and the brewery itself.

According to Untappd; they are a micro brewery from Jeannette, Pennsylvania. They have 57 unique beers and 9,839 ratings, with a global average rating of 3.52 (as of 10.13.22). Their Untappd description reads: “Like many other brewers, we started out with a passion for drinking beer. Which grew into a passion for home-brewing and creating new, exciting, and oftentimes obscure recipes. Born out of our garage, we set out to create exciting new and different recipes. After gifting some brews to our friends and family, and being awarded at competitions, we decided to give it a try on the big stage! Founded officially in 2012, Sobel’s Obscure Brewery is a family endeavor run by David Sobel and his two children, Gordon and Jackie. Always ready for fun and laughter, we endeavored to create not only a great product, but a quirky brand that would spur consumers to try us and follow our progress! Get to know our beer gnomes! Keep on the lookout for the funny antics they get up to! Download our app (coming soon!) and play some games!

New Location. GRAND OPENING!

New Brewery Location

The following photos and videos are courtesy of their Facebook page – you can pop over there to see them, as well as the dad jokes, and much more from Sobel’s Obscure Brewery.

There is also a great video they have posted showing the love they have for their new brewery. You can tell that both Jackie and David love what they do and have fun working together as father and daughter:

If the video doesn’t work due to Facebook Watch issues (which is likely a thing, due to how Facebook and Facebook Watch works), you can go directly here:

Here is the YouTube version of it, and should hopefully work no matter what:

The new location will be a lovely new addition to Jeannette, Pennsylvania. It is a 18,000 square foot old building (built in 1904 – so over a hundred years old already); it was a former antique shop, hardware store, and department store. They will be primarily using the downstairs first floor for the brewery and their taproom, this will be 6,000 of its 18,000 square footprint.

Their bar will sit 15 guests at a time and they are having 20 taplines which they plan on keeping up to date at all times. As you can see from the above draft boards, they will be having 20 beers on tap at their grand opening.

Currently food trucks will be their go to for food at the venue. They are local minded and the food trucks will be from the area, as well as they will be letting local restaurants table deliver inside their brewery.

Thats not all of the renovations that they’ve done that has taken them so long and so much hard work. They have also purchased the building adjacent to their brewery which they tore down, and will be using as a huge outdoor patio. They are a bit of a ways yet from getting that off the ground – but its winter anyway, so look for it most likely in 2023.

And of course – most importantly – with a bigger building comes a bigger brewhouse! (The thing most of you readers are concerned, worried, and wondering about anyway!) With the new brewery, they’ve gone from a 1BBL system to a 7BBL system. This should help in keeping those 20 draft lines flowing at all times. (Well, all business hour times.)

Dad and Daughter Owned

Sobel’s Obscure Brewery is unique in that its owned and operated and brewed by a father and daughter duo / team. Jackie Sobel and her father David Sobel. If you’ve been following their social media, you are sure to have seen many of their dad jokes they have on their page. You can find some below:
