It’s Pumpkin Time!

So…. a couple leaves have changed color on the tree in our front yard.  So…. it’s technically not too early, right?  I can talk about pumpkin spice now?  They were the first ones I saw in the store and I had to grab a couple for me and Grandma SueAnn to enjoy.   (See: A Beer Review by Grandma SueAnn [Beer Review: Braaaiins! by Spring House Brewing Company].)

We were shopping at the local Weiss and I saw it on an end-cap and I had to have it.  Braaaiins by Spring House Brewing Company.  I grabbed the 4pack with the approving nod from the boyfriend.  I could hardly wait long enough for them to chill.  Grandma SueAnn was in agreement; kicking our pumpkin beer drinking season off with a loved classic was the way to go. The first pumpkin beer of the year, near end of August, and I had to grab it!

Braaaiins! by Spring House Brewing

Once chilled this pumpkin ale is the perfect beer to kick off Autumn with.  It is described on Untapped as “our pumpkin ale is brewed with generous amounts of real pumpkin blended into the mash.  The subtle fresh pumpkin flavor is enhanced by the addition of a touch of traditional autumn spices and sweet dough, thus creating a beer with an orange amber color, warm pumpkin aroma, a bold malt center and a crisp finish.  We are proud to offer you a balanced and delectable fall treat.  Suitable for zombies.”  It has an 8.5% ABV so I isn’t anything to mess around with.  It has an overall rating on Untapped of 3.70.

Zombies are People Too by New Trail Brewing

On another occasion we swung into West Connection Beer Vault in Hummelstown (find West Connection Beer Vault on Facebook).  Amongst the mix of six we picked out were two from New Trail Brewing. (We also scored a fantastic Barleywine by 3 Floyds Brewing – Pillar of Beasts. See Ben’s beer review of that here: Beer Review: Pillar of Beasts by 3 Floyds Brewing.)

Zombies Are People Too and Double Zombies, two pumpkin beers from the mid – Central PA brewery up in Williamsport. They clock in at a 5.7%ABV and an 8.5% ABV respectively. My first instinct was to see if Grandma SueAnn could tell the difference between the two New Trail pumpkin beers. (Because who better to try out new pumpkin beers with than Grandma SueAnn?) Yes, the Double Zombies has a higher ABV but Double Zombies is also supposed to be packed with, according to Untapped “twice the strength, maple syrup, vanilla, and pumpkin spice.”  Grandma SueAnn thought she tasted just a bit more spice to Double Zombies but she happily helped me drink both pumpkin beers.

Overall though we enjoyed both of the New Trail pumpkin options. In the mid-state (Harrisburg area) you can find them at your different beer distributors and bottle shops like Breski’s Beverages, West Connection Beer Vault, Brass Rail, Bradford Village Beer and Soda, as well as at your grocery stores like Wegmans, Weiss, and Giant. You might even be able to find them in some gas stations like Rutters, WaWa, or Sheetz. So be on the lookout and the hunt!

Check out our Instagram post about the pumpkin beers: Pumpkin Beers on The Beer Thrillers @ Instagram. (And be sure to follow us on Instagram at: https://instagram.com/the_beer_thrillers).

Both are wonderful beers for this time of year and will definitely get you into that fall and pumpkin season feeling!

The following comes from Untappd. Cape May Brewing Company is a regional brewery from Cape May, New Jersey. They have 511 unique beers, and over 467,000 ratings, with a global average rating of 3.74 (as of 3.17.24). Their Untappd description reads: Cape May Brewing Company began with one simple question: Where’s all the beer down here?? With that in mind, we decided to provide South Jersey with fresh, delicious, local beer to put New Jersey on the map as a craft beer state. In July 2011, we found our home at the Cape May Airport, excitedly purchased our forklift, and delivered our first keg of Cape May IPA to Cabanas Beach Bar and Grill. Since then, we’ve proudly crafted balanced and flavorful ales and lagers for thousands of happy locals and visitors. Throughout the year, hundreds of our beers can be found throughout New Jersey, Eastern Pennsylvania, and Delaware. We are proud to distribute our beers to hundreds of bars, restaurants, and liquor stores, on draft and in cans, ensuring premium freshness and excellent service. Our Tasting Room is one of the largest and most accessible in the state, with a spacious and sunny Beer Garden. You can visit our gift shop, “The Brewtique,” and take our interactive, self-guided tour. While many production breweries are only open a few hours per week, we are open daily for tours and tastings. Nimble Giant Returns Today (June 14th, 2022) https://thebeerthrillers.com/2022/06/14/nimble-giant-returns-today-june-14th-2022/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=nimble-giant-returns-today-june-14th-2022 Tue, 14 Jun 2022 14:45:00 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=9398
Its Nimble Giant time!

The Giant Awakens

Its that time again, everyone’s favorite time in the Central Pennsylvania area! The time when the giant from Hershey awakens. You know the one I mean, the nimblest of giants, the fastest of the giants, the swiftest of the giants…. the one and only NIMBLE GIANT by Troegs Independent Craft Brewing from Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Nimble Giant

The Nimble Giant releases today – June 14th, 2022, for its yearly run. Troegs Independent Craft Brewing’s website has the gist and information on the beer for you here: Nimble Giant Release (Troegs).

From their site:

“What makes Nimble so Giant? For us, it boils down to a simple formula: ingredients + people + process. It starts in the hop fields, with Simcoe’s notes of creamsicle and mango, Mosaic’s honeysuckle and grapefruit, and Azacca’s pineapple. Back at the brewery, our Scratch team came up with an innovative hopping technique – which we dubbed the Hop Cyclone – to circulate those hop oils from the top to the bottom of our tanks, not missing an ounce of beer. We also found the small window during fermentation to optimize our dry-hopping. In the end is the beautifully bold Nimble Giant, ripe with notes of grapefruit, pineapple and honeysuckle.”

Nimble Giant Release (Troegs)

Their release schedule follows:

  • Week of June 10: Most of PA
  • Week of June 17: NJ, OH, VA, DE, MD, DC, rest of PA
  • Week of June 24: MA, NY, CT, NC, rest of VA, MD

You can also see a video they made and released for the beer here:

The Journey of the Nimble Giant

The Nimble Giant We All Love

Nimble Giant Case Covering

Getting to live so close to Hershey and Troegs Brewing, has let me get to taste each of the scratch variants and then the finished product. I still remember getting hit HARD by the last scratch before its initial release, having been there after work, having two myself, and then running into my friend’s dad with a friend, and all of us buying rounds and not even realizing just how high the ABV was for its smoothness. (Needless to say the three of us got an Uber and went home that night.)

As the years go by, I think now that this is my favorite of the yearly or regular Troegs Brewing offerings. More than even Nugget Nectar and Mad Elf. Its probably their best, juiciest, smoothest, IPA; whereas say Perpetual IPA is the prototypical old school West Coast IPA. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy all of their year long releases (Perpetual, Troegenator, etc.) and their seasonal releases (Perpetual Haze, Impending Descent, Mad Elf, Nugget Nectar, Naked Elf, etc.); but this is just far and away my favorite now.

Hopefully you’ll be able to get out and enjoy it too. You can use Troegs’ website (link above) for their “brew finder” and that should help you locate the closest Nimble Giant to you.

Enjoy and cheers!

Thanks For Reading

Once again, as always, thank you everyone for reading. Love seeing your comments, questions, feedback and more. You can message us directly or leave a comment on the site. Whats your favorite offering from Troegs Brewing? Whats your thoughts on Nimble Giant? Let us know!

Cheers!
