Tröegs Unleashes the Return of Nimble Giant Double IPA

Tröegs Independent Brewing has officially brought back one of its most sought-after seasonal beers — the bold and juicy Nimble Giant Double IPA.

Brewed just once a year, Nimble Giant is a fan favorite that rivals Tröegs’ iconic Mad Elf in the hype it builds leading up to its release. This limited-release Double IPA is now hitting shelves and draft lines across the brewery’s distribution network.

The beer’s journey began in the experimental Scratch Series, where Tröegs brewers first explored the layered complexity of Mosaic hops. It was during these small-batch tests that the ideal hop trio took shape.

“We loved our earliest trials with Mosaic,” says John Trogner, Tröegs brewmaster and co-founding brother. “But when we started dry-hopping with Mosaic and Simcoe together, we knew we had something special. Once we brought Azacca into the mix, it clicked — and we couldn’t turn back.” Weighing in at 9% ABV, Nimble Giant is a showcase of hop expression and balance. Expect vibrant notes of tropical fruit, pine resin, and honeysuckle, all built on a smooth base of pilsner and Vienna malts that give the beer its rich amber-orange color and silky body.

With an “Outstanding” rating on BeerAdvocate and regular top-10 appearances on Untappd’s trending list, Nimble Giant continues to impress both critics and hopheads alike.

This annual release is now available in 16-ounce cans and on draft wherever Tröegs beer is sold. Nimble Giant is available on draft and in 16-oz. cans across the brewery’s entire distribution footprint. To track down Nimble Giant near you, visit the Tröegs Brew Finder.

LAKEFRONT BREWERY SET TO RELEASE CANS OF QUEEN BEAN, THEIR 5TH ANNUAL PINK BOOTS COLLABORATION BREW https://thebeerthrillers.com/2025/02/24/lakefront-brewery-set-to-release-cans-of-queen-bean-their-5th-annual-pink-boots-collaboration-brew/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=lakefront-brewery-set-to-release-cans-of-queen-bean-their-5th-annual-pink-boots-collaboration-brew Mon, 24 Feb 2025 13:23:56 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=16144 LAKEFRONT BREWERY SET TO RELEASE CANS OF QUEEN BEAN, THEIR 5TH ANNUAL PINK BOOTS COLLABORATION BREW

Women and non-binary individuals gathered at Lakefront to brew a beer in celebration of Pink Boots Society who work to recognize the positive impact women and non-binary individuals have on the alcoholic beverage industry.

The Pink Boots Collab Team

On January 9th, 15 Pink Boots collaborators gathered in Lakefront’s production facility to grind malt, test gravity, add hops, and create Queen Bean, a Caramel Coffee Blonde Ale brewed with Stone Creek Coffee beans. Lakefront Brewery’s Retail & Donations Coordinator, Elizabeth Mauritz, chose the style to combine her love of craft coffee and craft beer while also collaborating with fellow B Corp, Stone Creek Coffee.

The Pink Boots Collab Team in Action

“My career first led me to coffee, and later to craft beer at Lakefront Brewery. You tend to see coffee more often in stouts or porters, but I prefer the lightness of coffee blonde ales, which allow for a more balanced and delicate coffee flavor to shine. Stone Creek Coffee is my favorite local roastery, and they are also a B Corp just like Lakefront. It’s a great feeling to be able to collaborate with another company that holds itself to a higher standard and has a sense of purpose beyond profit.” Caramel and vanilla were added for a hint of sweetness, inspired by Mauritz’s preferred coffee additives. The label was designed by former Lakefront employee and Pink Boots collaborator Amy-Sue Hazel, featuring a serene goddess formed from the swirls of coffee inside a mug.

Lakefront is releasing Queen Bean on Friday, March 7th on draft and in 12-ounce cans, a first for their Pink Boots Collaboration Brew Day brews. They will be donating $1 for every full pour, $2 for every crowler, and $1 for each can consumed on-site to Pink Boots Society’s National and Wisconsin Chapters. The equivalent of $3 for every 6-pack to go will also be donated. Single cans, 6-packs, and crowlers can be scheduled for pick up through their online ordering menu (https://order.toasttab.com/online/lakefrontbrewery) starting at 9 am on Friday, March 7th. Individuals can also purchase Queen Bean in all varieties from their main bar once they open at 11 am.

Queen Bean Release

Lakefront notes that Queen Bean will have a special draft-only sneak peek at The Roman Coin, the night before, on Thursday March 6th starting at 6 pm.

Troegs Brewing is Releasing Oktoberfest on August 5th https://thebeerthrillers.com/2024/08/03/troegs-brewing-is-releasing-oktoberfest-on-august-5th/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=troegs-brewing-is-releasing-oktoberfest-on-august-5th Sat, 03 Aug 2024 13:38:54 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=15379

That Time of Year Again

Its August…. so you know what that means….. Oktoberfest! (No seriously, hear me out, its time for Oktoberfest.)

Although already out in the wild via the newest variety pack – Perpetual Exploration Variety Pack 3 – the Oktoberfest by Troegs Independent Brewing officially hits the shelves of their brewery on Monday, August 5th 2024. It will be going out to distribution shortly thereafter. (The variety pack started showing up in places like West Connection Beer Vault and others as early as July 26th. The variety pack includes Perpetual IPA, Graffiti Highway IPA, Hopora IPA, and the Oktoberfest.)

Oktoberfest will be on draft starting the following week – August 12th – at the brewery.

(Last year Oktoberfest was released on August 1st.)

Tröegs Oktoberfest

By boiling a portion of the mash, we create a bright, dry maltiness.

John Trogner – Tröegs brewmaster and co-founder

Tröegs Oktoberfest is 6.1% ABV – not too high and not too low either. The lager is true to its origins, a good toasty lager that would make any Bavarian happy. Brewer tasting notes for the Oktoberfest are caramel, toasted oats, sweet caramel, fresh baked bread, and flowering herbs.

Troegs Independent Craft Brewing collaborated with German artist David Leutert to make the can label and some of the artwork on merchandise. They have also collaborated with another artist for the tee shirts that will be released to celebrate the Oktoberfest season. Leutert took inspiration from the Bavarian flag and the traditional bier halls of Bavaria to create the design. Festzelte is the Bavarian bier gardens that you see traditionally in pop culture with the tents and the white and blue everywhere.

Lagers

Troegs Brewing has several lagers to scratch any lager fan’s itch. They have the year round Troegenator Double Bock, they have the Sunshine Pilsner, they also currently have When in Doubt (a helles lager) and they’ve had some recent scratch lagers – Scratch 511 and 514 in particular. The Oktoberfest Lager joins their Long Live Lagers celebration series.

(See also: The Rise of Craft Lagers in Pennsylvania Breweries)

Oktoberfest Lager can be found in 12-oz bottles and 12-oz cans. You can use their Tröegs Brew Finder to find it.

Yuengling and Hershey’s Chocolate Porter: A Sweet Collaboration Returns for Its Fourth Year https://thebeerthrillers.com/2023/10/31/yuengling-and-hersheys-chocolate-porter-a-sweet-collaboration-returns-for-its-fourth-year/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=yuengling-and-hersheys-chocolate-porter-a-sweet-collaboration-returns-for-its-fourth-year Tue, 31 Oct 2023 13:30:31 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=15717 Yuengling and Hershey’s Chocolate Porter: A Sweet Collaboration Returns for Its Fourth Year

Craft beer lovers and chocolate enthusiasts alike have reason to rejoice—Yuengling’s Hershey’s Chocolate Porter is back for its fourth year! This iconic collaboration between America’s oldest brewery and the legendary chocolatier has quickly become one of Pennsylvania’s most anticipated seasonal releases.

Whether you’re a loyal fan or a first-timer, here’s everything you need to know about this decadent brew that’s capturing hearts (and taste buds) across the state.

Yuengling’s Hershey Chocolate Porter is Back

What Makes Hershey’s Chocolate Porter Special?

Yuengling’s Hershey’s Chocolate Porter combines the brewery’s nearly 200-year-old Dark Porter recipe with Hershey’s world-famous chocolate. At 4.7% ABV, this American porter boasts a rich blend of Hershey’s chocolate syrup, cocoa powder, and cocoa nibs, creating a flavor profile that’s both smooth and indulgent.

Each sip delivers a balanced experience: roasted malts from Yuengling’s Porter meet the sweet, velvety finish of Hershey’s chocolate. It’s a pairing that feels both nostalgic and innovative—a true crowd-pleaser for beer drinkers and dessert lovers alike.

Food Pairings to Elevate Your Experience

Wondering what to enjoy with your Hershey’s Chocolate Porter? This versatile beer pairs beautifully with a variety of flavors:

  • Chocolate Desserts: Amplify the rich cocoa notes by sipping it alongside brownies, chocolate mousse, or a slice of chocolate cake.
  • Barbecue: The porter’s subtle smokiness complements the charred flavors of ribs, pulled pork, or brisket.
  • Cheese: For a savory twist, try it with sharp cheddar, creamy brie, or a smoky gouda.

This beer’s versatility makes it a perfect choice for holiday gatherings or cozy nights by the fire.

Where to Find It

As of now, Yuengling’s Hershey’s Chocolate Porter is hitting shelves wherever Yuengling products are sold. Keep an eye out at your local distributor or favorite bar, as this beer tends to fly off the shelves quickly!

Why Yuengling and Hershey Are the Perfect Match

Both Yuengling and Hershey are Pennsylvania icons with deep-rooted histories. Yuengling, based in Pottsville, has been brewing since 1829, making it America’s oldest brewery. Hershey, founded in 1894, is a name synonymous with chocolate worldwide.

This collaboration celebrates the best of Pennsylvania’s craft and culinary traditions, making it more than just a beer—it’s a sip of history.

So grab a bottle (or a six-pack) while you can and treat yourself to a beer that’s as sweet as the partnership behind it. Cheers!

Troegs Independent Brewing is Releasing Scratch 500 and Scratch 501 – Double Perpetual IPA and Triple Perpetual IPA https://thebeerthrillers.com/2023/10/09/troegs-independent-brewing-is-releasing-scratch-500-and-scratch-501-double-perpetual-ipa-and-triple-perpetual-ipa/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=troegs-independent-brewing-is-releasing-scratch-500-and-scratch-501-double-perpetual-ipa-and-triple-perpetual-ipa Mon, 09 Oct 2023 14:35:00 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=12671 (Article Updated to include new photos.)

Troegs Independent Brewing Is Hitting a Milestone

Who would have guessed when Troegs Independent Brewing started their unique scratch system – their version of research and development – that here we would be; at Scratches 500 and 501

In recent years they’ve been pumping them out nearly weekly between their Scratch System and their even smaller R & D Scratch System. Leading up to their Oktoberfest Week they released several scratches all at once – Scratch 497: Schwarzbier, Scratch 498: Lemon Lime Radler, and one – that John Trogner himself said they would never make – Scratch 499: Rauchbier (a smoked beer).

Feels like it was just yesterday and I was drinking the Scratch 400 and reviewing it: Scratch 400 – Pre-Prohibition Lager. And here we are, three years later, celebrating the release of scratch 500 (and 501).

Scratches 500 and 501 will both be released on Thursday, October 19th, 2023 at the Troegs Brewery on Hersheypark Drive in Hershey, PA.

Scratch 500: Double Perpetual IPA

Scratch number 500 is Double Perpetual IPA. Take the Perpetual IPA you love… and double it! (Well, more like 1.5x it… for a real double Perpetual IPA… we’ll get to that in a bit).

Double Perpetual IPA will be clocking in at around 9-9.8% ABV. (Perpetual IPA is 7.5% ABV.) Double Perpetual IPA will be a brewery exclusive release on October 19th, 2023.

This is being both canned and kegged, so there will be four packs and cases, as well as draft at the brewery. Unlike the debacle that was the nightmarish release of the first batch of Double Nugget Nectar – this release; Double Perpetual IPA – will most likely have some sort of case or four pack limit.

Over the course of the run of Scratch Series Beers – numerous beers have “graduated” to become full fledged beers. Like Grand Cacao, Haze Charmer, Nimble Giant, and most recently Cyclops Teardrops.

Perpetual IPA (the original, the singular, the highest selling IPA in Pennsylvania) was one of the very first graduates of the Scratch Series and the research and development system used by Troegs Independent Brewing.

Expect this beer to have even more citrus, even more sticky and piney notes, and be even MORE Perpetual… it’ll be DOUBLE PERPETUAL!

Scratch 500: Double Perpetual IPA with original Perpetual IPA (photo courtesy of Troegs Independent Brewing)

Scratch 501 – Triple Perpetual IPA

Did you think Double Perpetual IPA was enough? No way! We need a Triple Perpetual IPA!

If you thought Perpetual IPA was a big IPA at 7.5% ABV…. and then if you thought Double Perpetual IPA at 9-9.8% ABV was a BIG BIG IPA…. then wait til you get ahold of Triple Perpetual IPA… rocking in somewhere from the 11 – 13 % ABV range (or so the legends go).

All of your favorite hops from Perpetual IPA – Cascade, Chinook, Nugget, and Citra are ramped up to the max for this big strong, powerful (triple) IPA.

This will be kegged only, and be released on draft only at the Troegs Brewery. You will be able to get crowlers and growler fills of it to go.

You can look for Triple Perpetual IPA to be released October 19th, 2023 when the Troegs Brewery opens at 11:30 AM.

A Historic Collaboration of Two Pennsylvania Icons

The Yuengling Hershey’s Chocolate Porter marked a milestone in 2019, introducing the first collaboration between two legendary Pennsylvania brands, each with over a century of heritage. Yuengling, America’s oldest brewery, and Hershey’s, the name synonymous with chocolate, have come together to create a beer that truly celebrates Pennsylvania’s roots. This special brew has grown in popularity every year, becoming a seasonal staple for fans across the region.

What’s Inside the Brew? A Chocolate Lover’s Dream

Yuengling’s Chocolate Porter brings together their time-honored Dark Brewed Porter recipe with the smooth, rich flavor of Hershey’s chocolate. Clocking in at a drinkable 4.7% ABV, it combines dark roasted malts and caramel notes for a luscious, well-balanced porter that’s sure to satisfy anyone with a sweet tooth. The chocolatey richness makes it perfect for pairing with everything from smoked meats to rich desserts.

Jennifer Yuengling, Vice President of Operations and a 6th-generation family member at Yuengling, shared her excitement: “One of our top priorities is listening to our fans, and we know how much they look forward to this fall-favorite. We’re thrilled to bring it back for those searching for something special in their seasonal beer lineup.”

A Limited-Time Treat for Fall and Winter

With fall festivities underway, Yuengling Hershey’s Chocolate Porter has quickly become a go-to choice for holiday gatherings and cool nights. Only available while supplies last, it’s the kind of seasonal brew that you’ll want to snag sooner rather than later. To find a retailer near you, simply visit the beer locator on Yuengling’s website.

We are working on a massive project here at The Beer Thrillers. We are creating a map of all of the breweries across the United States. State by state we are adding maps of all of the different states with every brewery in each state. (We will eventually get to the US Territories, as well as the Canadian Provinces, and possibly more countries; as well as doing some fun maps like a map of all the breweries we’ve been to, and other fun maps.) You can find the brewery maps here:

We are also working on a project of creating printable and downloadable PDFs and resources to be able to check and keep track of all of the breweries you’ve been to. So stay tuned for that project once we are finished with the Brewery Maps of the US States.
