Thank You

Thank you to everyone who voted. I will go into a much bigger thank you on the Results Page, as well as looking for feedback, suggestions for next year (and all other years going forward), and in general people’s thoughts, ideas, and if they enjoyed this year’s tournament or not. I hope everyone did. I appreciate all the time and effort everyone spent on voting and participating in the tournament, and I can only hope everyone enjoyed it. This year’s edition was plagued with a few technical issues on our website, on social media, and all kinds of things, but I think we made it through, just going an extra week long due to the issues. But ending on WrestleMania Night 2, on Easter, and on 4:20 day, kind of made up for it.

I want to congratulate all of the finalists – Allusion Brewing Company (Apollo Conference winner), Collusion Tap Works (Zeus Conference Winner), Liquid Noise Brewing Company (Cascade Conference Winner), and Acclamation Brewing (Liberty Conference Winner). All four breweries did a fantastic job throughout the tournament, and are fantastic breweries period. So if you can, go out and support these great places and people!

There was a total of 256 breweries competing this year, from 13 states and the District of Columbia.  So this was certainly a hard fought win, especially since it’s their second win, for Allusion Brewing Company. Congrats to them (again)!

If you are new to the blog and our site, and this is your first time visiting, please hang out, bookmark the site, and check back with us. The Battle of the Breweries 2025: Finals Fatal Four – Way https://thebeerthrillers.com/2025/04/07/the-battle-of-the-breweries-2025-finals-fatal-four-way/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=the-battle-of-the-breweries-2025-finals-fatal-four-way Mon, 07 Apr 2025 13:00:17 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=16218 The Battle of the Breweries 2025: Finals Fatal Four – Way

Just before you’re about to hit play on that cassette tape of “We Are The Champions” we have one final round to go! Its the Finals Fatal Four – Way! Each of the Conference Champions will be facing off in a fatal four way to determine who is the true Battle of the Breweries (2025) Champion! And this year’s a doozy! We have two returning champions, including the Defending champion – Liquid Noise Brewing Company, as well as two first time finalists. Scroll down to the VOTE section to vote.

The Battle of the Breweries: 2025 – Championship Finals Fatal Four Way

Conference Champions

Let’s take a look at the four conference champions:

Apollo Conference

The winner, defeating Boneshire Brew Works in the Conference Championship, of the Apollo Conference is…………… Allusion Brewing Company! A former Battle of the Breweries Champion!

Cascade Conference

The winner, defeating Shy Bear Brewing – and defending their championship from 2024 – of the Cascade Conference is Liquid Noise Brewing Company!

Liberty Conference

The winner of the Liberty Conference, and making their first Finals appearance, having defeated Wolf Brewing, is Acclamation Brewing!

Zeus Conference

The winner of the Zeus Conference, defeating Dancing Gnome Brewing to advance to their first finals is Collusion Tap Works!

Finals Fatal Four Way

Much like a wrestling fatal four way match, you have four determined, grizzled, hard nosed, tough as nails; competitors facing off to determine the one true winner and champion! We take the winner of each of the conferences and pit them against each other in a four way match. (Think of WrestleMania 2000 with The Rock vs. HHH vs. Big Show vs. Mick Foley!) You can only vote for one brewery, and after two weeks – ending on 4:20, on WrestleMania XLI Night Two, ending on Easter Sunday, on Sunday April 20th, 2025; the brewery with the most votes will be the Battle of the Breweries Champion! You can vote daily for your favorite brewery. So we fully recommend 1) that you bookmark this page so you can come back to it each day, and 2) that you share this page to all of your social media platforms to help your favorite brewery out!

VOTE

(Voting has ended.)

Tournament Guidelines

We fully encourage everyone to have as much fun as possible with this tournament! Share and comment and talk about the breweries facing off. Upset your favorite brewery isn’t in the tournament? Sorry! It means one of us probably haven’t been there, or they just barely missed our cut when deciding the 256 breweries to include! Social media is a fantastic tool for sharing your brewery or your favorite brewery’s voting page. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, BlueSky, Mastodon, Tumblr, LinkTree, umm…. MySpace? LinkedIn? Pinterest? What other social medias do you cool young kids use? Whichever it is, feel free to share and bolster and brag about how your brewery is doing or encourage others to vote for your favorite brewery!

Please do keep it all in fun though. This isn’t meant to belittle or demean breweries or to create real animosity. Its a fun light hearted competition in the spirit of the NCAA March Madness basketball tournament. So with that in mind please enjoy it!

The finals round will be a two week event, unlike the previous rounds (with the exception of the one round due to technical difficulties), which were one week rounds.

The Battle of the Breweries 2025: Conference Finals https://thebeerthrillers.com/2025/03/31/the-battle-of-the-breweries-2025-conference-finals/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=the-battle-of-the-breweries-2025-conference-finals Mon, 31 Mar 2025 13:49:35 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=16187 The Battle of the Breweries 2025: Conference Finals

We are here! We are just about to the end. That means its the Conference Finals! The winners of these match-ups will meet up in the Finals Fatal Four-Way and be declared the 2025 Champion! There is just eight breweries left, with four match-ups (one for each conference), and the winners moving on. We have two returning champions in the mix (Allusion Brewing Company and Liquid Noise Brewing Company). All eight breweries that remain are also Pennsylvania breweries too! (Go PA Beer!) So check below to vote, and help decide who moves on to the finals! (Instead of doing an individual page for each conference, I have combined all of the voting into one page.)

The 2025 Battle of the Breweries Conference Finals

Apollo Conference

We have two breweries left and its crunch time for the Apollo Conference!

The match-up is between 21. Boneshire Brew Works vs. 30. Allusion Brewing Company.

Cascade Conference

In a back to back for the conferences, we have a former champion reaching the finals. (Allusion Brewing in the Apollo Conference.) Liquid Noise Brewing Company is the returning champion. Can they move on to the finals to defend their championship?

The match-up is between 25. Shy Bear Brewing and 26. Liquid Noise Brewing Company.

Liberty Conference

The third conference has a tough match-up, and is the second Pittsburgh vs. Harrisburg area brewery matchup (the first being Allusion – Pittsburgh Area vs. Boneshire – Harrisburg area). In this one we have Acclamation Brewing defending Pittsburgh area vs. Wolf Brewing defending the Harrisburg area.

The match-up is between 10. Wolf Brewing vs. 17. Acclamation Brewing.

Zeus Conference

The final conference is seeing yet another Pittsburgh area brewery going head to head with a Central PA area brewery. We have Dancing Gnome Brewing of Pittsburgh vs. Collusion Tap Works of York and Lititz.

The match-up is between 2. Dancing Gnome Brewing vs. 17. Collusion Tap Works.

Voting Rules

Voting is straight forward and simple. There are four conferences: APOLLO, CASCADE, LIBERTY, and ZEUS. (All named after different hop varietals.) Each week, from Monday through Sunday, there will be a voting page for each of the conference. Click on the voting page, open it up, and it will have a pop-down survey poll. Starting with the Round of 64, all the way down to the finals of each conference, followed by a Fatal Four Way that will have the winner of each conference fighting for the grand champion!

You can vote daily for each of the conferences, so you can make up to 4 votes (one per conference) per day. Each round will be one week, except for the Finals which will be two weeks. The rounds are as follows: Round of 64, Round of 32, Round of 16, Round of 8, Round of 4, Conference Finals (Round of 2), and the Finals Fatal Four-Way (Winner of each Conference in a four-way match). So for the first week, there will be 32 matches in the conference, then in the second week there will be 16 matches, then 8 matches, then 4 matches, then the last two rounds are just 1 match each.

For the Conference Finals I might just make it 1 voting page rather than 4 distinct voting pages. It all depends on what will be easier for the blog’s coding and all that back house stuff.

Voting for this round will end on Sunday April 6th.

VOTE

(Voting has ended.)

Tournament Guidelines

We fully encourage everyone to have as much fun as possible with this tournament! Share and comment and talk about the breweries facing off. Upset your favorite brewery isn’t in the tournament? Fidens?! Adroit Theory? Xul Brewing? RAR Brewing? Southern Grist? Resident Culture? Burley Oak? Dewey? Crooked Crab? Other Half? Fourscore? Dancing Gnome? Black Flag?

Sign us up!

This is an absolute star studded lineup, and we can’t wait. Amy and I will be going. Looking to meet up with a lot of the Central PA Whalerz and hopefully doing a beer share afterwards as well. (Because… why not do a beer share after a mammoth four hour brewfest?)

Unlike the 5th Anniversary Event where Amy and I took the Friday off, and made a huge brewery trip out of it, this year, we’re just going to be going down Saturday morning, hitting up the brewfest, spending the night, and then hitting a few breweries on the way home Sunday. Still a lot of fun, but possibly a little bit more laid back. (Possibly.)

Untappd: Top 10 Breweries in Pennsylvania for 2023 https://thebeerthrillers.com/2023/12/11/untappd-top-10-breweries-in-pennsylvania-for-2023/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=untappd-top-10-breweries-in-pennsylvania-for-2023 Mon, 11 Dec 2023 16:39:38 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=13230
The Top 10 Breweries in Pennsylvania for 2023 (As per Untappd)

The Top 10 Breweries in Pennsylvania for 2023 (As per Untappd)

Every year around this time of year its fun to take a look back to see what breweries got the most check – ins, what breweries had the most visits, and what breweries are trending up (versus those trending down or even outright closing).

This data was compiled up to December 9th, 2023 at 11:59:59 PM EST.

Yesterday we posted the Top 10 Breweries in Pennsylvania for 2023 as per Perplexity AI. You can read that article here: The Top 10 Breweries in Pennsylvania as Per Perplexity.

Top Ten Breweries in Pennsylvania

Here’s the top 10 breweries in Pennsylvania, in list form, as per Untappd check ins and ratings:

  1. Other Half Brewing Company – Philadelphia, PA – 4.23 Rating
  2. The Referend Bier Blendery – Kutztown, PA – 4.20 Rating
  3. Imprint Beer Co. – Hatfield, PA – 4.16 Rating
  4. Fermentery Form – Philadelphia, PA – 4.15 Rating
  5. Hidden River Brewing – Douglassville, PA – 4.13 Rating
  6. Dancing Gnome Brewing – Pittsburgh, PA – 4.11 Rating
  7. Tired Hands Brewing – Ardmore, PA – 4.10 Rating
  8. Warwick Farms Brewing – Jameson, PA – 4.09 Rating (Tied)
  9. Antifragile Brewing – State College, PA – 4.09 Rating (Tied)
  10. Brew Gentleman – Pittsburgh, PA – 4.09 Rating (Tied)
  11. Second Sin Brewing – Bristol, PA – 4.09 Rating (Tied)

Positions 8 – 11 are tied for 8th.

How it Works

Untappd uses a weighted ratings system. They average the number of check ins and the average rating of each of the beers rated for the breweries. Non – rated beers act as a nothing (not a zero nor a five). You can read more about Untappd’s weighted rating system here – Untappd weighted rating system.

Breweries on the Outside Looking In

There are five breweries that just missed the cut, that are nearly on that Top 10 (or in the case of this year due to the ties – Top 11) list, and they are:

  • Mechanistic Brewing – Clarion, PA – 4.07 Rating
  • Aslin Beer Company – Pittsburgh, PA – 4.07 Rating
  • Fourscore Beer Company – Gettysburgh, PA – 4.06 Rating
  • Abjuration Brewing – Pittsburgh, PA – 4.05 Rating
  • Human Robot Beer – Philadelphia, PA – 4.05 Rating

There are so many good breweries in Pennsylvania, that its crazy to even dwindle the list down to 10, 11, 15 or 16 as we did here today.

Troegs Independent Craft Brewing – Brewery located in Hershey, PA

Craft beer in Pennsylvania has experienced a remarkable renaissance in recent years, solidifying the state’s reputation as a powerhouse in the craft brewing industry. The history of brewing in Pennsylvania dates back centuries, with early German immigrants bringing their brewing traditions to the state. This heritage laid the foundation for a beer culture that has flourished and evolved over time.

Pennsylvania is home to an impressive number of craft breweries, ranging from small, neighborhood nano-breweries to large-scale production facilities. The state’s diverse geography and rich agricultural resources contribute to the wide array of ingredients and flavors found in Pennsylvania beers. Local breweries take pride in using locally sourced hops, grains, and even fruits to create unique and distinct brews that showcase the region’s agricultural bounty.

Brew Gentlemen in Braddock, PA

End of the Year

Its the end of the year, and what that usually entails is a whole slew of “end of the year lists”. Top 10 this… top 38 that… top 69 (heeheehee) this and that…. Top 314.181928102810 Pies, etc.

We are going to post a few this year. In the past we’ve kinda shied away from posting these sorts of articles, because the metrics and information is kind of… biased in a way. Its basically just reading off Untappd’s information and lists and going with it. For example, recently Breweries in PA did a final end of the year Top 10 Pennsylvania Breweries listing article, using Untappd’s information, and well… it was received as well as you can imagine. Mainly because they didn’t put in any filters or restrictions or limits to it. So just before the list was posted, Country Club Brewing Company (see an article about them here: Country Club Brewing Company Announces Opening) had their grand opening. They had roughly 1,000 check – ins on the Untappd app, and being a grand opening most of them were very favorable (mostly four caps or better). So needless to say this put a lot of readers and breweries themselves up in arms about it. It actually listed them at number three (out of ten). (The other thing that irked most was that Other Half Brewing Company was listed, when they have several non – Pennsylvanian locations.)

But… I’m gonna go out on a limb and use Untappd to post some of these lists. If nothing else we can look back at them as just data charts and analyze them for the statistics. At best, they prompt some conversation and discussion (and we all know how well that goes on the internet). So first up, let’s take a look at The Top 10 Regions for Most Check – Ins.

The Top 10 Most Checked-In Regions of 2022

So how drunk do you think your area and region is? Do you think your state had the most check ins? Well lets find out!

Remember, all of this information is correlated by Untappd and is dependent on their app. So its just analyzing, and adding up all of the check ins on their app. I will post a link back to Untappd’s full article afterwards. But first, let’s get to the list:

  • 10. North Carolina (United States of America) – 1,762,020 Check Ins
  • 9. Florida (United States of America) – 1,768,811 Check Ins
  • 8. Ohio (United States of America) – 1,844,993 Check Ins
  • 7. Illinois (United States of America) – 1,905,864 Check Ins
  • 6. Bayern (Munich, Germany) – 1,999,890 Check Ins
  • 5. Massachusetts (United States of America) – 2,393,759 Check Ins
  • 4. Pennsylvania (United States of America) – 2,582,779 Check Ins
  • 3. Vlaanderen (Belgium) – 2,903,569 Check Ins
  • 2. New York (United States of America) – 3,902,956 Check Ins
  • 1. California (United States of America) – 4,695,384 Check Ins

(All statistics as of December 9th, 2022. All statistics are from January 1st – December 9th 2022).

Congratulations Pennsylvania

Since we’re based out of Central PA (Harrisburg / Hershey / Hummelstown area, to be even more precise really), I’m going to highlight Pennsylvania and talk about how impressive it is to be number four on the list. Not sure how GOOD of an impressive thing it is, but it is impressive. Everyone always talks about Wisconsin and Milwaukee being the ‘alcoholics capital’ of the United States (and the world), but they don’t even hit this top 10 list. Now, that can be for many reasons – lack of check ins, lack of using the app, drinking liquor instead of beer, etc. But if you watch Red Letter Media you would think they got us beat on beer too (plus they have New Glarius Brewing Company, so why not?).

But, fourth place is nothing to sneeze at – in the sense of volume of check ins. Given that New York and California easily has Pennsylvania beat on population, its quite impressive. 2.5 million check ins is also a lot of check ins.

Good job Drunkies!

Untappd’s Article

For more information, you can check out Untappd’s article and blog where they break down the data a bit more, and discuss their own choices and links to curated travel guides to each of these regions.

Typically they list a few breweries key to each state / region after their usage in the above list. For Pennsylvania they discuss Human Robot and Dancing Gnome breweries. (Read our article about Human Robot’s Milko Pour here: Human Robot – The Milk Tube.)

So they picked a brewery at each end of the state – Human Robot for Philadelphia and Dancing Gnome for Pittsburgh. But there are a ton of great and fantastic breweries spread out throughout the state – many of them here in the middle of the state along the Susquehanna. Breweries like Troegs Independent Craft Brewing, Boneshire Brew Works, Tattered Flag Brewery and Distillery, Selin’s Grove Brew Pub, Shy Bear Brewing, Ever Grain Brewing Company, Mellow Mink Brewing, and so many more (and those are just the ones more in the Central PA area and located closer to the Susquehanna). (Check out our article about Brewery Tour and Brewery Visit to Mellow Mink: Brewery Visit – Mellow Mink.)

Thanks For Reading

Thank you everyone for checking out the article. We enjoy having you come to the site! In the next few days I’ll be posting a few more lists and variants and such. So be sure to stop back out each day for that.

Like I said in our previous post, lots still going on here at the blog despite it being the end of the year. I’m also heading back to work in a few days time, so things will be picking up work wise as well. So it’ll be holidays, work, baby Scarlet, and the blog. Busy. Busy. Busy. But, like I did say on the last post, Josh and I were invited out to Central PA Pour to do a podcast, which was an absolute blast. We filmed and recorded that on the 18th, and that will be going live just before New Years. So look for that. Should be entertaining and fun. We had a blast.

Cheers All!

Brews and Bands for Bart

Block Party of the Summer

How do you recognize one of the baddest and coolest party throwers around? By throwing one of the biggest and baddest bashes ever in his honor! Thats just what’s in store this Saturday at Tattered Flag. We’ve discussed Bartley Kaminski here on the blog before, in numerous different ways, but recently with his passing, and with the event here and various events in the distant past.

This event has been planned out for quite a while now, but has really blown up with Bart’s passing. Tons of breweries adding their names to the list, and lots of other additions, and add – ons and groups adding to it and showing up in various ways to help the cause. It looks to be one hell of a bash, and one hell of a way to salute, and remember Bart and to throw one final rad party in his honor and memory.

Bartley Kaminiski

We talked about Bart before here, and talked about his passing previously here: Farewell to Bartley Francis Kaminski. He founded Kollision Media, Hop Hedz Gear, and has been referred to as “The Willy Wonka of Beer Events”. I could go on and on about him here. He was just a great guy, the life of the party without being too much, and everyone who knew him, or even just met him at one event or the other has amazing memories or stories to tell about him. My buddy talks about Bart’s green – suit or green – man appearance at the Atlantic City Brewfest all the time. There was very rarely an event in the Central PA area where you didn’t see a Hop Hedz Gear stand or Bart himself. And I guarantee you there was at least one person walking around in a tee shirt or hoodie that he made.

I can’t do him justice here discussing his amazing life, but we can do him justice by having one heck of a party in his honor.

Brews and Bands for Bart

The final brewery list for Brews and Bands for Bart posted today (Wednesday 8.11.21)

Look at that line-up! And word is there might be more additions to come and stuff, even though this is the “finalized” list. And I’m sure some might have their own little additions or add ons or secret hidden stashes too.

Here is a full list with all of their Untappd links:

Word is also Lancaster Brewing Company, North Country Brewing, and maybe one or two more will be unofficially added. That is one hell of a lineup right there! With breweries from out of state like Tripping Animals (Florida) and much more.

And let us not forget the bands part of this event as well!

The music lineup for Brews and Bands for Bart at Tattered Flag this Saturday (8.14.21)

Also, as posted by Hop Hedz Gear on social media:

In addition to the 40+ breweries that will be attending the fest, we would like to thank our group of vendors who will be a part of the event! Thanks so Whimsical Wonders By Kris, Thicc Bois Glassware, D&S Cigar Lounge, Dutch Country Soft Pretzels, and Feathers Feed and Jerky. Be sure to stop by these booths, as all sales will have a portion of proceeds donated to the cause!
