or – we took a trip to a brewfest and had a ‘kickin’ good time, one that was rad to the max!

We are ready to have a good time.  We made our way to the Fresh Brews of Mount Joy hosted by Yah Brew Hershey, Yah Brew Mount Joy and Voyage Mount Joy.  This was also part of a fundraiser with part of the proceeds benefiting “Donegal Athletic Club” which helps support the needs of our local athletes.

Like all things YAH Brew style, it hit heavy on the 90s nostalgia.  Even each brewery announcement on social media was doing a nostalgic reference to the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”  throwback.  And yes, I have had that song in my head while writing this entire article!

It was only the day of the event I took notice to the wear your best 90s themed attire.  I couldn’t think of anything that fit this goal so I went with my fav beer shirt.  My baby daddy luckily received a Homer Simpson T shirt for Christmas from a wonderful woman, so he wore that.

(See our article: The Fresh Brews of Mount Joy – Upcoming Brewfest on April 26th, 2025)

Even one of the gals pouring beer quizzed us.  “ I came to drop bombs. I got more rhymes than the bible’s got psalms” Who is the artist?  I can immediately guessed “biggie”.  I heard it in his voice when I repeated it in my head.  But I was very wrong…”House of Pain, Jump Around.”  So now that song is in your head, eh?

What got our attention to attend this event despite all the other events was the stellar lineup.

The brewery lineup for the Fresh Brews brewfest

After walking up and down the blocked off street the Beerfest looked like everyone was in a  hustle to get stuff setup but folks still taking time to chat and catch up.  I didn’t get the impression that everyone knew each other, although we ran into a lot of familiar faces, but everyone there was genuinely into the beer they were drinking. A large number of the breweries attending have done collab brews together.  It was like hanging out with all your beer friends while pretending the 90s weren’t more than 25 years together!

We had VIP tickets so that meant that VIP time was during the downpour.  I almost felt like I was playing frogger; jumping from tent to tent to get more beer pours at my quickest pace to avoid getting drenched.  But, let’s be honest, if you are giving me beer the rain doesn’t matter that much.

After the Facebook post and a friendly Beerfest goer we decided the bourbon barrel aged stout from Voodoo Brewing company was going to be our first taste of The Fresh Brews of Mount Joy.  Black Magick indeed lived up to hype.

If you have been reading The Beer Thrillers for any amount of time, I think you know by now we know how to get a Beerfest started.  This one comes in at a %13 ABV.  It gives that slight boozy flavor but then finishes off smoothly.  There is some definite magick  going on with this beer!

It wasn’t long until I needed some food to soak up the beer and our first Stop was Halo’s Eatery.  We split the Halo Bowl.  It was delicious and paired nicely with several of the beers we enjoyed.

It wasn’t long after I couldn’t stop drooling over the bacon on a stick I saw my other Beerfest goers enjoying.  We could hardly wait to chow down on the bacon and it was still very hot.  Again, many beers were enjoyed while enjoying Bacon on a stick.

The kicker to the whole event was the 90s cover band.  Every other person there would catch a few tunes and immediately start belting our lyrics that we could remember.

Before catching our Uber home we grabbed some Hoagies to go at Hulk Hoagies (the YAH Brewing attached hoagie shop that they run in Mount Joy), then went home to enjoy them on the coach.  We ordered Sweet Chin Music (spicy) and the Rock Bottom.

Here’s a big ol’ photo dump from the brewfest. Courtesy of Amy’s excellent photography skills!

I still have that song in my head!

Fresh Brews Brewfest

Ben jumping in here. Just want to give a big shout out to Justin and everyone from YAH Brew for all the hard work they did. The brewfest was absolutely fantastic. Rain or no rain, it was a blast, and we got to hang out with lots of great people over the course of the day, and had some “da bomb” beers. Kudos to all involved for such a job well done!

Storm the Field!

A couple of weeks ago we announced and shared information on our social media pages of Sworn Brewing, Antifragile brewing, and Warwick Farm Brewing being at the Troegs Brewery to collaborate on an upcoming beer for the Hoppy Valley Brewfest. The three visiting breweries met up at Troegs Brewery to brew a West Coast Double IPA. Part of a series of collaborations for the year that Troegs Brewing is doing (they’ve also collaborated with Dewy Beer Co, Tonewood Brewing, Free Will Brewing, and more).

As of right now, it looks like there will be limited kegs available, as well as being poured at the Hoppy Valley Brewfest on May 11th in Beaver Stadium, as well as 16 oz pounder cans for sale. No word on how much allotment will be at each brewery or if it will see distribution at all.

Hoppy Valley Brewfest

The Hoppy Valley Brewfest is the first brewfest to be held inside Beaver Stadium. It will be held on May 11th, 2024. For more information go to our Hoppy Valley Brewfest page: Hoppy Valley Brewfest at Beaver Stadium. With a list of 100+ breweries from the East Coast area with some huge heavy hitters like Sworn Brewing, Fidens Brewing, Adroit Theory, Other Half, and so many more; it is shaping up to be one amazing brewfest. You can get tickets from the link above.

Sworn Brewing

Sworn Brewing is a new brewery (not even a year old yet) from Mechanicsburg, PA. Fast getting a name for themselves for their incredible beers. To get a look at their brewery from when we had a sneak peek before they opened, check out our article here:

Antifragile Brewing

Another fantastic brewery, from the heart of State College, PA. We got to visit Antifragile last November after Amy’s Alzheimer’s Walk to End ALZ in State College, and its a great brewery with amazing beers. Definitely check them out when you are up in the area.

Warwick Farm Brewing

Warwick Farm Brewing is located in Jamison, PA on a wonderful farm brewery setting. With gorgeous views, fantastic beers, it is a fantastic brewery to get to visit, drink, and hang out at. Picnic tables outside, large open spaces outside and inside, perfect summer drinking spot.

7th Anniversary Beer Fest – Event Brite Page

Fidens?! Adroit Theory? Xul Brewing? RAR Brewing? Southern Grist? Resident Culture? Burley Oak? Dewey? Crooked Crab? Other Half? Fourscore? Dancing Gnome? Black Flag?

Sign us up!

This is an absolute star studded lineup, and we can’t wait. Amy and I will be going. Looking to meet up with a lot of the Central PA Whalerz and hopefully doing a beer share afterwards as well. (Because… why not do a beer share after a mammoth four hour brewfest?)

Unlike the 5th Anniversary Event where Amy and I took the Friday off, and made a huge brewery trip out of it, this year, we’re just going to be going down Saturday morning, hitting up the brewfest, spending the night, and then hitting a few breweries on the way home Sunday. Still a lot of fun, but possibly a little bit more laid back. (Possibly.)

We are working on a massive project here at The Beer Thrillers. We are creating a map of all of the breweries across the United States. State by state we are adding maps of all of the different states with every brewery in each state. (We will eventually get to the US Territories, as well as the Canadian Provinces, and possibly more countries; as well as doing some fun maps like a map of all the breweries we’ve been to, and other fun maps.) You can find the brewery maps here:

We are also working on a project of creating printable and downloadable PDFs and resources to be able to check and keep track of all of the breweries you’ve been to. So stay tuned for that project once we are finished with the Brewery Maps of the US States.

Every year Autos and Ales likes to make a specialty beer just for the event. Last year they had Snitz Creek Brewery do the honors. This year it will be Englewood Brewing from Hummelstown / Hershey PA. From their Facebook about it:

We try to connect beer and automotive history each year at Autos and Ales through a special transportation-inspired brew crafted by one of our participating breweries. On Friday, November 4th, our friends at Englewood Brewing will debut “Merlette Swan, a Schwarzbier Lager. Head brewer, Jesse Prall, is a Cadillac guy as evidenced by his tattoo and the naming of his beer. The “merlette swan” was a component of Cadillac’s original 1902 logo and has been on and off the company’s crest over the decades. The beer is on its way and promises to be easy to drink and dark like motor oil. Check out the photos from brew day and note the rubber ducky in the tank (Jesse says no swans were available); then get your tickets for this not to be missed annual event!

Thanks For Reading

Thank you for reading everyone! Always appreciate everyone stopping by and checking out the blog. Lots of big news going around here at the blog! A big Phillies win last night (7 – 0 !!!) with five home runs last night. What an amazing game that was! That makes the series now 2 – 1 Phillies, as they go into game four tonight in Philadelphia. Citizens Bank Park will be rocking! Also today is Wednesday, so another new episode of Andor, so that means its another Star Wars Wednesday, so another Star Wars themed beer review. (Also, with it being a Phillies game, that also means there will be a Phillies themed beer review. Whew, do I have my work cut out for me today.)

Also, as the norm with November, I do an article a day. My version of NaNoWriMo. So every day in November there will be at least one brand new article. So make sure you are stopping by the blog to check out everything that is going on. As there will be lots of beer reviews, book reviews, hike reviews, and other things to check out here.

And on the homefront even bigger news. We got told yesterday that they will be inducing Amy on the 9th. So looks like Scarlet Emma will be coming sooner than expected! (Original due date was November 22nd.) Things will be getting hectic from the 9th on, thats for sure! I’ll try and fit my writing in around the baby. So bear with us on all things blog related in that time frame.

Also, hopefully I’ll get to see you guys out at the Autos and Ales on Friday. Drew Scott and I will be there, Amy is most likely just going to be DD (designated driver), she might stay, or she might just be dropping and picking us up. Who knows yet. It is after all only five days before the induction.

Well, anyway, as always, thanks for reading, and make sure to root the Phillies on tonight!

Cheers!

Lancaster Craft Beerfest Postponed Again https://thebeerthrillers.com/2022/05/31/lancaster-craft-beerfest-postponed-again/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=lancaster-craft-beerfest-postponed-again Tue, 31 May 2022 13:12:14 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=9331
Lancaster Craft Beerfest’s Facebook Post (Photo courtesy of Lancaster Craft Beerfest Facebook page)

Postponed… Again

Sadly, for the third year in a row, the Lancaster Craft Beerfest has been postponed. It started in 2020 due to COVID-19 and …well, basically EVERYTHING that year being shut down and closed. Even though things were starting to get back into swing by August, a brewfest was still pretty much out of the question.

They announced that they would be back in 2021…. but then… come 2021, they announced that they were yet again postponing the beerfest. Not much information was given, just that they were postponing and with a Facebook post saying “We’ll be back in 2022”. (That post was just a cover photo and it was uploaded on June 2nd, 2021.)

Fast forward now to 10 hours ago (roughly 7PM last night – May 30th, 2022), and they posted another cover update and profile picture with an actual summary this time:

“Unfortunately due to numerous obstacles this year, we have to postpone the Lancaster Craft Beerfest again. We are thankful for all of your support in the past years and everyone reaching out about this year but we are looking forward to 2023! Hopefully by then, all of the construction will be finished and we’ll have a newly developed venue for you to enjoy the celebration of beer!”

Lancaster Craft Beerfest (Facebook)

Lancaster Craft Beerfest

Yesterday’s cover photo added to the Lancaster Craft Beerfest Facbook page

The Lancaster Craft Beerfest would have been celebrating its 8th annual brewfest back in 2020. It originally stopped due to the COVID-19 / coronavirus pandemic that swept the world. It has always been a lovely brewfest for the local Central PA beer scene, on par with the Mount Hope / Renaissance Faire craft beer fest, as well as the Harrisburg one, and others.

I got to go to the beerfest in 2019, (which as it stands currently, sadly, has been the most recent, and possibly its last), with my friend Ming – he was the DD (designated driver) who hung out with me at the beerfest. It was a great location, a fun brewfest, and well organized. Lots of food vendors, lots of breweries, local homebrew clubs, etc. Plus we had a gorgeous day – so the added bonus of great weather. We even visited Mad Chef afterwards (first time at the brewery back then).

The Future

What does the future hold for the Lancaster Craft Beerfest? We don’t rightfully know. They state they will be back in 2023, and we certainly and personally hope so. Its a fun brewfest that caters to Central PA breweries and vendors, and helps the local Lancaster Craft Beer scene, which since 2019, has only gotten more breweries. So it would be a shame to lose the beerfest. Fingers crossed that it will make its come back in 2023, even stronger than ever!

Thanks For Reading

As always everyone, thanks for reading. And speaking of brewfests, The Beer Thrillers have quite a busy schedule coming up. On June 4th and June 5th, we will be at the AC Music and Beerfest in Atlantic City (Bader Field). Then I will be taking a road trip / hiking trip / brewery tour trip down through Virginia, upper North Carolina, and eastern Tennessee. Just to return home in time for the Mount Hope / Renaissance Faire brewfest on June 11th.

So lots of fun events coming up, and brewery trips and visits. So be on the lookout and keep your eyes peeled here for some great articles coming up!

And as always, thanks for the likes, comments, subscribes, shares, finger pokes, nose pickings, brain leakings, etc, etc, etc. Keep it up! Love hearing from you guys!

Cheers!

Philadelphia All Star Craft Beer, Wine, and Cocktail Music Festival at Citizens Bank Park

Brewfest This Saturday

This Saturday will be one heck of a brewfest at Citizens Bank Park. And not only is it a craft beer fest, it’s also a wine, …and a cocktail… and a music festival. All on Citizens Bank Pank’s field – right where the Philadelphia Phillies play. What can be cooler than that?

The brewfest has two sessions:

  • Day Session: 1:00pm – 5:00pm (12:00pm for VIPs!)
  • Night Session: 7:00pm – 11:00pm (6:00pm for VIPs!)

So two great times to choose from. (That 7PM to 11PM time looks really nice, get to be out under the lights at Citizens Bank Park, just like your Bryce Harper in the outfield.)

What all is included?

(From the event’s page on their official website. Links provided below.)

Join us for the ultimate sampling experience! Tickets are extremely limited to avoid lines – and we WILL sell out!

Experience the ballpark like never before by being able to walk the bases & warning track like the pros and get a professional photo in the Phillies dugouts!**

PLUS, All Guests will Also Enjoy:

  • Multiple live bands, DJ/Saxaphone area, performances, and multiple DJs
  • UNLIMITED SAMPLES of 200+ amazing craft beer, wine, and cocktail options from the Philadelphia area to around the world showcased throughout the ballpark on multiple levels
  • A keepsake sampling glass
  • Batting cage simulator experience
  • Tons of games (think giant Jenga, Connect Four, Cornhole, Hula Hooping, Yard Pong, and more)

  • Free admission to the official after party at Chickies & Petes South Philly!
  • Giveaways & Fun Activities (rock climbing walls, etc)

And besides just breweries, there’s also a long list of wineries, cideries, and distilleries involved. So this is an all inclusive alcohol fest – not just breweries. You can find a full list of vendors here: Philadelphia All – Star Craft Beer, Wine, and Cocktail Music Festival Vendor List.

Citizens Bank Park

Citizens Bank Park is home to the Philadelphia Phillies and is also a music venue at times. Its located in the heart of the “Philadelphia sports complex” that also has the Lincoln Financial Field (home of the Philadelphia Eagles), as well as the Wells Fargo Arena where the Philadelphia 76ers (basketball) and the Philadelphia Flyers (hockey) play. It is roughly a two hour to two and a half hour drive from Harrisburg.

Its a beautiful ballpark, and is where the Phillies won their World Series in 2008.

Thanks For Reading

As of right now, I might be running out there for the evening session – it all depends. I have the Hummelstown Hunger Run (5K) at 10AM in Hummelstown. And then Amy and myself might be coming out there, or doing brewery hopping, or who knows what, all dependent on her job and what all we need to do. The next day then (Sunday morning) is the ‘Breweries in PA’ beer share at Pour Man’s Brewing, that we are also hoping to attend. Hopefully we’ll see you out at one of the events.

Saturday (May 14th) is also the Best Brunch Beer Fest in Pittsburgh. If you are going to that, you can read about it here: Best Beer Brunch Ever. I would love to get to go to this, but its too far and given the 5K run is at the same time, we won’t be able to make it.

Also, we are working with Drunk Phils Fans to give you a heads up look at their beer collab that will be dropping on May 21st. They paired up with Rotunda Brewing Company to make a Phillies beer inspired beer. We can’t wait to try it!

Cheers!

Best Brunch Ever by Fueled by Hops

The Best Brunch Ever

Think about the perfect brunch… picture it in your head. Do you have it? Well, you’re wrong. Because THIS…. THIS here, is the Best Brunch Ever. From the brainchild of Fueled by Hops that brought you the beer festival all about cookies, comes the beer festival all about brunch. Ryan Galiotto is the head of Fueled by Hops a Pittsburgh based (online) beer community. If you love brunch, and brunch themed beers, and everything to do with brunching, this one hundred percent seems the beer festival / brew fest for you.

Fueled by Hops

Fueled by Hops was originally a Facebook group community started by Ryan Galiotto, and has expanded from there. From their “About Us” page on their site:

Fueled by Hops. was founded in March 2019 by Ryan Galiotto at his living room coffee table (which doesn’t exist anymore, FYI).

What started out as a Facebook group with 8 members has quickly grown to become:

Podcast:  Ryan’s Story into Craft Beer

They are certainly a big and growing community in the PA beer scene, specifically and especially in the Pittsburgh area.

A Brunchy Good Time

This brewfest looks amazing, and absolutely likes a blast for all to attend.

You can see the guys talking about it on their live podcast from their Facebook page last night here: The Unfueled Show – The Best Brunch Ever.

Their event page overview:

“This Spring, we’re coming back with another beer festival to help you shake off the winter blues. On May 14, we’re taking over the warehouse at Hop Farm Brewing in Lawrenceville (Pittsburgh) and hosting a beer festival to celebrate brunch beers and bacon (lots and lots of bacon!)More details to follow! Tickets on sale soon!”

Best Brunch Ever (Event Page)

Just a few hours ago on the Fueled by Hops Facebook group page, Ryan made this post:

For you all coming to Best Brunch Ever, I want to take a second to tell you how your ticket purchase has impacted the local community.

First, a big chunk of everything we’ve sourced for this event was purchased locally from small businesses. This is becoming increasingly more challenging, but we always try to buy local first.

Our printing and signage was handled by PGH Print Ship in Etna. The folks are TOP NOTCH for printing services. All of our ice was purchased from Mastro Ice near Greenfield (I believe that’s the neighborhood at least). We worked with all small, local breweries and businesses in creating the collab beers for this event. We hope that these beers continue to be sold in taprooms beyond the event and drive business to the local establishments involved.

Without getting too deep in the weeds on comp, I can say that we are paying what I believe to be the highest rates in the industry to the breweries coming to help offset their expenses. We do not ask for donations. We do not try to get lower prices. We believe breweries should be fairly compensated for their product.

We chose all small, local restaurants to serve food at the event. While we had the opportunity to include bigger names, we opted to think small. And lastly, our event workers are all paid, not volunteers. With that said, this is going to be one heck of an event. Be on the lookout for more surprises and event announcements over the next few days. We’re no where near done surprising you.Cheers, yinz!

Ryan Galiotto

Thanks For Reading

This looks like an absolutely insanely fun brewfest. They have two sessions. Unfortunately its in Pittsburgh (a five hour drive for me) and is on the same day as my 5K in Hummelstown for their food pantry – The Hummelstown Hunger Run. So I won’t be able to attend.

If anyone is attending, let me know in the comments how it was. Can’t wait to hear from you all! Thanks for reading!

Cheers!
