Long time coming, Species X Beer Project is soon due to open in Columbus, Ohio. This highly anticipated brewery will be making their grand opening shortly.

Low key to a default, they announced on January 12th they would be making their grand opening in the next few weeks, that their just finalizing details. Aslin Beer Company picked up from there and saying it would be this upcoming weekend or so.

The Species X Beer Project website – Species X Beer Project Official Website – has their taproom listed at 408 N Front St. Columbus, OH 43215. And has this to say about their taproom:

Our spacious taproom boasts four expansive garage doors that, on nice days, open up to our outdoor patio. From the indoor section, patrons can observe our production process and equipment offering a behind-the-scenes look into our operations. We offer a variety of seating options, from comfortable bar stools to table seating, both inside and on the patio.

On nice days, our rooftop patio provides an awesome view of the Columbus skyline.

Species X Beer Project

Species X Beer Project collaboration with Prototype Brewery and Meadery

I first encountered Species X Beer Project at the Prototype Invitational back in April 2022. They were using syringes to add hop juice directly into the IPA(s) they brought to the brewfest, for a very unique and interesting twist on beers. Certainly a “mad scientist” type of vibe from them and their brewing philosophy and beers in general.

Their about page gives more information:

Welcome to Species X Beer Project.

In addition to being a brewery, Species X Beer Project is a continuous research endeavor seeking the next groundbreaking species for brewing beer, through both computational and biological means.

The hypothetical and theoretical “Silicon” species will originate from artificial intelligence and machine learning. Each unique model will generate unique and one-of-a-kind beer recipes, with varying degrees of guidelines and constraints based on anticipated beer recipe outcomes.

The biological species, dubbed the “Carbon” species, will either be novel or of forgotten origins, relative to humans. Methods for acquiring these species include (but are not limited to) hybridization, genetic engineering, mutagenesis, novel capture, and spore germination.

We are brewing beer with species of tomorrow.

Opening Announcements

Species X Beer Project

Social media is pretty sparse so far for Species X Beer Project, but on January 12th, they did make their initial opening announcement:

Getting close over here at Species X. Touch-ups are reaching a terminal point, and hopefully we have some super exciting news to share with the world in the next couple of weeks.

(Collaboration with Prototype Brewery and Meadery pictured).

Stay tuned!

Species X Beer Project – Facebook Post

This was followed up by Aslin Beer Company posting to their social media on January 26th:

We’re stoked to announce that our friends at Species X Beer Project are just about to open the doors to their Columbus, OH taproom for the very first time later this week. Founded by former Aslin brewer Beau Warren, Species X is experimenting with AI, data modeling, wild spore fermentation, wild-caught yeast fermentation, genetic engineering and more to bring truly novel, category-defining innovation back to brewing while making super delicious beer. Got friends in Columbus? They can follow Species X Beer Project for up to the minute updates on the opening or swing by 406 N 6th St this weekend to check it out.

14 Great High Grade Octane IPAs You Should Be Trying https://thebeerthrillers.com/2023/11/07/14-great-high-grade-octane-ipas-you-should-be-trying/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=14-great-high-grade-octane-ipas-you-should-be-trying Tue, 07 Nov 2023 17:55:00 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=12917
14 Great High Grade Octane IPAs You Should Be Trying

Fall is Fading Away

As autumn’s pumpkin spice craze gives way, it’s prime time for beer aficionados to circle back to the hop-infused delights that sparked our love for craft brews. With winter’s cozy warmers on the horizon and the decadent season of barrel-aged stouts soon to impact our holiday budgets and merry spirits, this November interlude is ideal for an IPA detox.

The craft beer scene might witness a feigned weariness towards hop-centric beverages, yet India Pale Ales remain the reigning choice for the discerning crowd. The rise of the ‘session IPA’—a lower alcohol iteration designed for extended hop enjoyment—has skyrocketed, becoming the trendiest addition to the craft beer repertoire.

Conversely, the high-alcohol end of the spectrum is where IPA artisans excel, infusing maximum flavor into every bottle. While double and triple IPAs fetch top ratings and prices, a discerning choice in this premium category ensures a rewarding experience. Below is a curated list of twelve exceptional, potent IPAs that perfectly complement the shorter days and cozy evenings of the season.

14 Great High Grade Octane IPAs You Should Be Trying

Here are fourteen examples of some high octane (high ABV) IPAs you should be trying this fall / winter season. They will certainly keep you warm in the cold months, and keep the hop heads amongst all of us happy.

Avery Maharaja (Boulder, CO, 10-12% ABV):

Avery Maharaja (Boulder, CO, 10-12% ABV)

Avery’s Dictator Series offers the Maharaja, a giant among IPAs, crafted with traditional hops like Centennial and Columbus, and paired with the contemporary Simcoe. This concoction delivers a symphony of citrus, tropical, and pine notes, harmonized with a caramel malt foundation. With time, the Maharaja’s complexity unfolds, revealing almond and toffee nuances, setting it apart in the ultra-IPA market.

Green Flash Green Bullet (San Diego, CA; 10.1% ABV):

Green Flash Green Bullet (San Diego, CA; 10.1% ABV)

This seasonal offering from Green Flash utilizes New Zealand hops to deliver a spiced-up IPA experience with a classic pine resin profile.

Other Half All Green Everything (Brooklyn, NY, 10.5% ABV):

Other Half All Green Everything (Brooklyn, NY, 10.5% ABV)

All Green Everything is a testament to Other Half’s reputation as New York’s buzzworthy brewery. This modern hop behemoth, while acknowledging the virtues of moderation, predominates with grapefruit, mango, and pineapple flavors, crowned with a resinous finish. Its less sugary profile elevates it above its East Coast imperial IPA counterparts.

Stone RuinTen (Escondido, CA, 10.8% ABV):

Stone RuinTen (Escondido, CA, 10.8% ABV)

Stone’s triple IPA, RuinTen, balances the tartness of Citra hops with Columbus’s spicy notes and Centennial’s floral essence. Despite its strength, it’s not overwhelmingly bitter, offering layers of brown sugar and chocolate amidst the expected fruity and resinous undertones. This harmony distinguishes RuinTen within Stone’s acclaimed IPA lineup.

Dogfish Head 120 Minute (Milton, DE, 15-20% ABV):

Dogfish Head 120 Minute (Milton, DE, 15-20% ABV)

The iconic Dogfish Head’s Minute IPA series is headlined by the 120 Minute IPA, a trailblazer in the extreme IPA category since its debut in 2003. At an arresting 18% ABV, its potent alcohol content is expertly paired with a bitter yet fruity hop profile. Regarded as a beer that matures well, the 120 Minute is an investment in both flavor and a spirited buzz.

MadTree Galaxy High (Cincinnati, OH; 10.2% ABV):

MadTree Galaxy High (Cincinnati, OH; 10.2% ABV)

MadTree’s imperial IPA taps into Southern Hemisphere hops to present a fruit-forward flavor palette, marked by notes of peach, orange, and mango, balanced against a backdrop of pine.

Port Hop 15 (San Marcos, CA; 10% ABV):

Port Hop 15 (San Marcos, CA; 10% ABV)

Port’s Hop 15 is a masterpiece, blending 15 hop varieties added at 15-minute intervals, producing a complex brew where tropical and citrus notes meet biscuit and caramel for a balanced taste.

Founder’s Devil Dancer (Grand Rapids, MI; 12% ABV):

Founder’s Devil Dancer (Grand Rapids, MI; 12% ABV)

Released annually, Founder’s Devil Dancer is a testament to the longevity of hoppy beers, offering a rich tapestry of tropical, earthy, and citrus hop flavors supported by a robust malt base.

Oskar Blues Gubna (Longmont, CO; 10% ABV):

Oskar Blues Gubna (Longmont, CO; 10% ABV)

Oskar Blues’ Gubna, an annual changing brew, is notable for its unique combination of spicy rye malt and Sorachi Ace hops, offering a distinctive taste worth trying even out of season.

Ballast Point Dorado (San Diego, CA; 10% ABV):

Ballast Point Dorado (San Diego, CA; 10% ABV)

Known for the popular Sculpin IPA, Ballast Point’s Dorado is a gift to hop lovers, with a resinous, fruity profile and a smooth finish, concealing its alcohol content with finesse.

Starr Hill Hopfetti (Crozet, VA; 10.2% ABV):

Starr Hill Hopfetti (Crozet, VA; 10.2% ABV)

Celebrating Starr Hill’s anniversary, the Hopfetti is a harmonious mix of six hops and golden oats, resulting in a creamy, slightly sour tropical profile with a hint of vanilla.

Harpoon Leviathan (Boston, MA, 10% ABV):

Harpoon Leviathan (Boston, MA, 10%ABV)

With its roots in the East Coast IPA movement, Harpoon’s Leviathan is a powerful double IPA that combines classic and modern hops for a citrus-pine flavor blend.

Aslin Pinkies Up (Alexandra, VA, 18.4% ABV):

Aslin Pinkies Up (Alexandra, VA, 18.4% ABV)

Aslin’s Pinkies Up Quadruple IPA has an alcohol by volume (ABV) of 18.4% If you’re seeking an IPA that breaks from tradition and offers a unique tasting adventure, Aslin Beer Company’s Pinkies Up is a must-try. This innovative brew captures the imagination with its unexpected twists on the IPA genre. It’s a beer designed not just for casual sipping but for those moments when you want to indulge in something a cut above the ordinary. As the name suggests, Pinkies Up is about elevating your beer experience, inviting you to enjoy a brew that’s crafted with a touch of finesse and a nod to the connoisseurs of the craft beer world.

Troegs Independent Brewing – Scratch 501: Triple Perpetual IPA (Hershey, PA, 12% ABV)

Troegs Independent Brewing – Scratch 501: Triple Perpetual IPA (Hershey, PA, 12% ABV)

Tröegs Independent Brewing’s Scratch #501, also known as Triple Perpetual IPA, elevates their esteemed Perpetual IPA to new heights. As part of their momentous Scratch series, this iteration arrives as their boldest yet, boasting a robust 12% ABV. This Triple IPA amalgamates a myriad of beloved hops, resulting in a sticky, citrusy hop explosion that delivers an artisanal and mechanical marvel. It’s a brew that commemorates the journey from their first Scratch offering to this 501st creation, embodying a craft that’s as audacious and complex as it is grounded in brewing tradition. They released it at the same time as Scratch 500 – Double Perpetual IPA. It is a limited scratch beer, so no word on if they will re-make or re-brew it. It is still currently available in their tasting room and general store on draft; and for crowler and growler fills.

High Octane IPAs

High-octane IPAs stand as titans in the craft beer landscape, catering to those who seek both intensity in flavor and potency. From the aromatic hop fields to the artful brewers’ tanks, these robust IPAs—like Avery Maharaja’s complex citrus notes, Stone RuinTen’s balanced bitterness, and the innovative hop profiles of Other Half All Green Everything—have defined a new pinnacle of beer craftsmanship. Including the unparalleled strength of Aslin’s Pinkies Up and the boldness of Tröegs Triple Perpetual IPA, these brews are not just drinks but experiences, crafted for moments of bold indulgence and savoring the zenith of brewing alchemy.

Road Trip Recap

Like I said in yesterday’s Puzzles and Pagans (2021) beer review – we were taking another road trip, this time to Virginia. So here’s the quick recap of where all we went:

All in all, it was a fantastic trip. Loved each of the breweries for their own different reasons, and will go into that more, when I do the full article on the trip.

We’ve done many other brewery tours and trips, and a lot recently, so be sure to check in the Travelogues section here to see them all.

Thanks for checking out this little quick recap, and stay tuned for when we give the full account! These breweries were a blast!

Also, make sure you check out the still ongoing #freebeer Small Brewery Sunday Giveaway!

Cheers!

Beer Review: How Now Brown Cow (With Pumpkin Spice) (Aslin Beer Co) https://thebeerthrillers.com/2021/11/21/beer-review-how-now-brown-cow-with-pumpkin-spice-aslin-beer-co/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=beer-review-how-now-brown-cow-with-pumpkin-spice-aslin-beer-co Sun, 21 Nov 2021 15:50:00 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=8304
How Now Brown Cow w/Pumpkin Spice by Aslin Beer Company

Back At It

Back from our recent trip to Maryland, Delaware, and New Jersey, we’re back at you with some beer reviews. (And yes, we did survive, despite rumors.) You can read about the road trip here:

We stopped at some fun breweries (including RAR Brewing, Burley Oak Brewing, and Cape May Brewing), even tried a milko pour, and also got a little bit of walking and hiking done. And hell, I even survived a ferry.

So we’re back to work here at the blog and delivering still our daily November articles. Today’s is another beer review.

Stout Season

Personally… I think its always stout season. It can be 98 degrees in the sun, and I can be sitting outside relaxing, reading a book on my patio, and I think its still stout season. But thats just me. I know that doesn’t apply to all people. For most (sane?) people, now is stout season.

So why not throw back an excellent stout by Aslin Beer Co in accordance with this wonderful season. So in appreciation of Stout Season I offer you: How Now Brown Cow – with a twist – Pumpkin Spice. My friend is a big time pumpkin spice lover, so when we saw this at Breski’s Beverage, it was an immediate grab. So here we are. Lets get to it.

Aslin Beer Company

First, let’s take a look at Aslin Beer Company. Just as an aside, they are coming to Pittsburgh shortly, and you can read about that here:

It first started with them being able to ship to Pennsylvania during COVID, but now they are full on moving in, and setting up shop in Pittsburgh.

According to Untappd they are a regional brewery that started in Alexandria Virginia. 607 unique beers to their name, and over 1 million check in and 933 thousand ratings. They have a global average rating of 4.11 as of 11.21.21. Their Untappd description reads:

Aslin Beer Company is a northern Virginia, DC suburb, microbrewery suited to provide great beverages and a wide variety. Visit our spacious, 24-tap tasting room in Alexandria, or our Herndon location for to-go beer only.

Untappd: Aslin Beer Company

Beer Review

How Now Brown Cow w/Pumpkin Spice by Aslin Beer Co

Beer: How Now Brown Cow w/Pumpkin Spice
Brewery: Aslin Beer Company
Style: Stout – Milk / Sweet
ABV: 6%
IBU: None
Untappd Description: This iteration of our delectable Milk Stout packs a punch of pumpkin & a creamy vanilla finish! Rich aromas of a fall evening ready for those cool, cozy days ahead.

First off, this is just a fun beer name to say over and over while drinking, I don’t care who you are. And I can only assume that everyone who is drinking this must repeat the beer name at least 15 times while drinking it. If not… what are you even doing here?

The aroma is a fun pleasant pumpkin smelling stout. You get the notes of your typical pumpkin spiced beer as you pour it out, and as you bring it to your nose and lips. You get your spices, you get all that reminds you of pumpkin, and you get some subtle (hidden by the pumpkin spices) malt and stout aromas.

Visually, this is a stout through and through. Its dark, its black, its pretty. Lovely brown creamy foamy head that left a nice lacing on the glass as I drank it. Varied and dispersed bubbles and nice head retention. The stout is certainly the type of black that Nietzsche would warn you about staring into.

This is a light bodied, creamy, smooth stout that really gives you a wonderful pumpkin spice flavor. Its a fun and tasty beer, especially if you enjoy pumpkin spices (if you don’t, your mileage will certainly vary on this one). The pumpkin spice comes in hard and heavy right out the gate and pummels your palate, after that, leaving you with a creamy stout, not itself light in flavor. The stout base is a good solid light (but not watery) stout, creamy from the vanilla, and well rounded with its malt base. I haven’t had the other iterations of this (looking at Untappd, seems like they’ve done a peanut butter, a coconut, coffee, coffee and maple, coffee and maple and bacon, hazelnut, and milk chocolate. To be honest, all of those different variations sound absolutely amazing, especially knowing how good this stout is. Aslin Beer Company certainly knows their stouts and does them very well. You’ll hear no complaints from me in that department or how well their made or executed. They can keep pumping them out and sending them my way, thats for sure. And at 6% this goes down easily and smooth and doesn’t hammer you over the head and knock you out. Makes for a perfect fall beer, perhaps around a camp fire making s’mores. (Or inside watching Dune before it leaves HBO Max like we did.)

My Untappd Rating: ****
Global Untappd Rating: 3.86 (as of 11.21.21)

Dune

Speaking of Dune, spent the night watching this with my friend, while we drank the above mentioned beer, as well as a few others (including FestiFall by South County Brewing Company). What did everyone else think of the movie? I really enjoyed it. I’ve heard complaints that it was hard to follow, or confusing, or that its just too much setup, etc. But I enjoyed it. I’m not a huge ‘Dune’ head, I read the original back in my Middle School or High School days (oh god how long ago was that?!), and have not read the sequels or all of the add-ons that Frank Herbert’s son Brian Herbert did with Kevin J. Anderson. (I have all of Frank’s sequels in my office, I really need to get around to reading this series again.)

And We Have Confirmation

As we posted yesterday – Aslin Beer Company Expanding to Pittsburgh – Aslin Beer Company hinted in their Instagram post about moving in at 1800 Smallman Street Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. Today, 9.14.21, they posted a Facebook update that provided definitive information, and confirmed that they are indeed moving into Pittsburgh.

Aslin Beer Company’s Facebook Post

As posted on their Facebook page this morning around 9AM, Aslin Beer Company confirmed they are moving into Pittsburgh with the following Facebook post:

📣📣PGH YOU READY FOR US?! 📣📣Coming Summer 2022: Aslin’s Pittsburgh taproom & brewhouse will be located in the Strip District’s Terminal building, as part of it’s full-scale revitalization. This new space will be the hub for research and development unique to Pittsburgh. A 10-barrel brewhouse, lagering tanks, open fermenters & fouders will support new brewing processes, techniques & ingredient choices. The space will also include a 7,000 sqft taproom, second floor mezzanine, outdoor patio and cafe..

We’ll be partnering with local business @scratchco_pgh, a community-oriented restaurant that supports farmers and producers, collaborates with nonprofits & maintains a firm commitment to sustainability and equity.

Founder of Scratch & Co. Don Mahaney adds, “We are very excited to showcase the best of our region’s farms and producers on the Aslin Pittsburgh menu.”

All good things.

Stay on the lookout for more updates!.

We’re stoked to share our beer with guests and collaborate with some of the country’s best brewers who call Pittsburgh home!…

New Process of Brewery Expansion?

Looks like we’re seeing what will be the future of brewery expansion, at least here in Pennsylvania. Breweries able to ship and distribute their beers and merchandise, can use this as a way to gauge interest and to project and predict growth of their companies. If their shipping sales do well, and for an extended period of time, and if there seems to be legitimate interest in the area, and good real estate for such a move, they could then proceed to move and expand.

I foresee this becoming a trend with breweries who have gotten the ability to expand into Pennsylvania, and other areas, as well as breweries in general, using this as a trend and ability to do some market research before putting their resources into a possible expansion that could fail or backfire. Sadly, we’ve seen in the past breweries attempt to expand too much and it costing them dearly, not just in terms of the new location, but even their business as a whole.

It will be interesting to see if this becomes a trend for future breweries or not.

Looking Forward to the Future

We are certainly looking forward to the future of Aslin Beer Company in Pittsburgh, as well as their beers in general. They have always been a well received, and well liked brewery here at The Beer Thrillers HeadQuarters, and we can’t wait to make a trip out to Pittsburgh to get to visit them.

Also, today, Tattered Flag has announced for certain that their Lancaster Barrel House location will be opening Friday – September 17th. We will be posting more information about this shortly.

Aslin Beer Company’s Instagram Post Today – 9.13.21

Looks Like Aslin is Moving into Pittsburgh, PA

Well, for all intents and purposes, it looks like Aslin Beer Company is moving into Pittsburgh. They posted the above image to their Instagram page (Aslin Beer Co. Instagram) earlier today, with the caption that shows a pin and says “1800 Smallman St” with the “looking” eyes emoji.

After this was posted, and then re-posted, and then re-posted, and again re-posted, in several Facebook groups, and online message boards, several “people in the know”, stated how “finally the cat is out of the bag”. So it looks like, without saying it, their saying it. And it seems to be happening.

1800 Smallman Street, Pittsburgh, PA

Sorry for the quality of the pics, but Google Maps was giving some trouble in screenshotting. But these give you an idea of the map and area of Pittsburgh where Aslin hinted at in their Instagram post.

According to the Google Maps street view, its down the street from The Church Brew Works, and it looks to be close to Insurrection Ale Works Tap Room. (In the first pic, screen shotted from the mobile Google Maps app, the beer mug is the Insurection Ale Works Tap Room, and the red pin is 1800 Smallman Street.)

Pittsburgh is home to numerous breweries, including mentioned Church Brew Works, Insurrection Ale Works, as well as Brewery Gentleman, ShuBrew, Penn Brewery, Cinderlands, Dancing Gnome, Couch Brewery, Hitchhiker, Grist House, and many more.

So this will certainly be a wonderful addition to the brewery scene in Pittsburgh. Ryan Galiotto commented about the “cat being out of the bag” now today about Aslin expanding into Pittsburgh, and pointed out that they are a part of the ‘Drink the Table’ brewfest in Pittsburgh on November 6th. Ryan is the founder and head of Fueled by Hops LLC and community.

News About the Brewery

There has been no word yet on the construction or anything more substantial than this Instagram post and the comments made by several people. So timescale on construction, opening dates, or anything more than that. But when news becomes available, we’ll be posting it here, so be on the look out.

Beer Review: Fruit Monster (Great Notion Brewing) https://thebeerthrillers.com/2020/10/29/beer-review-fruit-monster-great-notion-brewing/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=beer-review-fruit-monster-great-notion-brewing Thu, 29 Oct 2020 14:37:43 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=4887
Fruit Monster by Great Notion Brewing

Continuing the beers from the stream; I get to the third of the series, and I present to you the fabled FRUIT MONSTER of Great Notion Brewing. Firstly…. let me say, finally, I’ve gotten to try Great Notion Brewing, and they absolutely live up to all of the hype their beers have received. I got a few of their beers from Breski’s in a mix-a-six, and I’ll be reviewing the others as well at some point. But first I wanted to do the beers I had on the stream as part of a series. You can check out the streaming page at Knights of Nostalgia. I’ll put a list of the beers from the stream that I did beer reviews of at the end of this article. Its a series of reviews, just like my Tree House beers I reviewed as a series. Make sure to check out the others.

Look at that picture above, doesn’t that look like pure juice? Like orange juice? Like a good breakfast OJ to get the day going? Well, its not OJ, and its not a New England IPA, but it is pure straight juice, and its straight fire.

This is part of the Great Notion’s Tart Ale series, each batch being a different blend of fruits. This particular one (in the above review) was Mango, Guava, and Passionfruit. The Untappd description reads that its Passionfruit and Pineapple, but that was for a different batch, and they don’t have a unique beer check-in for each batch. So the description reads off a bit different than the beer itself; but its a simple fix – where it says “pineapple and passionfruit” just think “mango, guava, passionfruit”. Problem solved.

Fruit Monster by Great Notion Brewing

Beer: Fruit Monster
Brewery: Great Notion Brewing
Style: Sour – Fruited
ABV: 6%
IBU: None
Untappd Description: The first in our new tart ale series, Fruit Monster! Each batch will have a unique blend of tropical fruits and milk sugar, and the first one has a scary amount of pineapple and passion fruit. Drink up before the monster gets it all!

Appearance is like your morning juice with a nice breakfast. Not quite like the hazy juice of New England IPAs, this looks more like your pineapple or slicker clearer juices. Its still not transparent and is mostly opaque, but it not as hazy or turbid and it doesn’t have any sediment or floaters in it. It had a thin (very thin) small head when poured that quickly evaporated. Good carbonation. Beautiful orange color, bright, and all around just appealing.

The nose for this is just as described and offered. Mango, guava, passionfruit. Very fruity, in a heady mixture. It all hits together at the same time in the same way and makes one giant blend of an aroma. You can really smell the three fruits; but I think the mango and guava is probably the two that come through the most, hard to say though with just how well it all blends together.

Now we get to whats always my favorite part of the review…. because its my favorite part of beer; and that’s drinking it! Just like its appearance would make you think, this is pure juice. And just like its aroma would make you think, this is pure fruity. So… guess what? Its pure fruity juice! This is completely, absolutely, ridiculously, incredibly… delicious. As the ‘cool kids’ on the interweb would say, “its pure fire”. (See, I’m still hip and with it. I can get jiggy with it too.) There is a very slight tartness to this, but its refined and mostly negligible; what you are primarily getting is a fruity, juicy, drinkable and crushable beer. I think I downed this in no time, savoring the first sip and the last, and draining the rest of it far quicker than I should have. (Its so good its hard to savor it.) The fruits do blend in the tasting just like they did in the aroma. You get the notes of the mango, guava, and passionfruit, very heavily. Probably mostly mango and mostly guava with the passionfruit being more subtle. Guava can be an interesting flavor to me, its very hit or miss, in this though, I think its definitely a hit, most likely because of how its used in combination with the mango and passionfruit. I am a huge fan of mango in beer and this nails it completely and perfectly. Providing such a deep tasty mango flavor that combines really well with the guava and the passionfruit flavors and makes a really nice blend. This is 6% so its certainly not heavy or boozy or too powerful, and its very crushable, a four pack of this would go down waaaaaaaaay too easily. I think 5-7.5% is the perfect range for beers if you are sitting down and drinking; don’t get me wrong, I love the deep heavy boozy barleywines and stouts (as many faithful readers of the blog can attest to), but for hanging out with friends, drinking, playing video games, etc, a good 5-7.5% beer is perfect. You can have multiples, its not too boozy, too heavy, and sits well. Just like this does. Perfect for playing Friday the 13th and being a camp counselor running away from Jason Voorhees. Also, just a perfect beer, period, in general, flat out. Make sure you find yourself some of this and give it a try, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed at all.

My Untappd Rating: ****.75
Global Untappd Rating: 4.11 (as of 10.29.20)

This is the third of the four beer series from last week’s streaming session; when me and Drew played Friday the 13th on Knights of Nostalgia. You can check in with us to see what we’re drinking, and you can watch Drew on there a lot, usually drinking craft beer and / or bourbon or scotch.

Beers:

So be sure to check out Villeinage soon. Probably sometime in the next day or two.

Tonight I will be joining Drew again on Knights of Nostalgia for another stream, this time we’ll also be joined by Rory. So make sure to see the three of us play some video games and drink craft beer and joke around.

Cheers!
