Fuzzy Few Festival by the Fuzzy Few Organization (FFO)

Fuzzy Few Festival

Previously known as the Fuzzy Few Carnival, this year the Fuzzy Few Organization is renaming and rebranding it as a Festival rather than a carnival.

For the past 55 years it has been the Fuzzy Few Carnival and has happened near or around the middle of August every year. With the Hummelstown Fireman’s Carnival happening in the end of June each year.

Unfortunately, as with most things – COVID – 19 changed a lot of the way events, activities, and things like this work. And with all of that it became harder and harder for the Fuzzy Few Organization (FFO) to be able to secure carnival groups to come help assist their carnival each year. Last year they were unable to have rides and other vendors due to this, but they did procure some inflatable activities and playground stuff for children.

So pivoting for 2023 they announced the Fuzzy Few Festival (instead of the Fuzzy Few Carnival). It will run from August 14th through August 19th 2023 at Schaffner Park (Boro Park). They will also be having a beer garden for the first time, held in the fenced in basketball courts at the lower end of the park by the Olde Antique Factory.

The beer garden will be 21+ only and will feature several brands and breweries for sale.

Amy and the Alzheimer’s Association

Make sure you stop out to visit Amy at her Alzheimer’s Assocciation stand. (I’ll also be helping out a few nights after work). Raising awareness for Alzheimer’s and for the Alzheimer’s Association.

She will have a stand at the Festival, so you can stop in, talk with her (or us) and hang out, and get information, fliers, pamphlets and information about Alzheimer’s, the Alzheimer’s Association, and their work raising awareness, looking for a cure, charitable work, as well as the upcoming End ALZ Walks.

Band Lineup

The bands lined up for the First Inaugural Fuzzy Few Festival are:

  • Monday (August 14th) – Honey Pump
  • Tuesday (August 15th) – Smooth Like Clyde
  • Wednesday (August 16th) – Class Act
  • Thursday (August 17th) – Luv Gods
  • Friday (August 18th) – Soul Solution
  • Saturday (August 19th) – Pentagon

History of Fuzzy Few Organization

The founding of the Organization, know as the Fuzzy Few, came about during Hummelstown’s 200th Anniversary. It was formed as a Bearded Brothers Club to participate in that celebration. After playing a very active role during the time of fun and merriment, the men in the club decided to apply for an official charter and operate as a non-profit organization in the community of Hummelstown.

The organization’s official emblem was registered and approved on December 29th, 1963. The emblem also indicates the clubs desire to promote goodwill and fellowship not only within the organization but also throughout the community and surrounding areas.

The goal of the organization since its founding has been to establish and support community and youth related programs.

We are working on a massive project here at The Beer Thrillers. We are creating a map of all of the breweries across the United States. State by state we are adding maps of all of the different states with every brewery in each state. (We will eventually get to the US Territories, as well as the Canadian Provinces, and possibly more countries; as well as doing some fun maps like a map of all the breweries we’ve been to, and other fun maps.) You can find the brewery maps here:

We are also working on a project of creating printable and downloadable PDFs and resources to be able to check and keep track of all of the breweries you’ve been to. So stay tuned for that project once we are finished with the Brewery Maps of the US States.

Ready To Kick Off The Summer https://thebeerthrillers.com/2023/05/21/ready-to-kick-off-the-summer/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=ready-to-kick-off-the-summer Mon, 22 May 2023 03:38:46 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=11475
Beers on a patio, on a gorgeous sunny day, with friends and family – Lets Get Summer Started!

Let’s Kick Summer Off

In many ways Memorial Day weekend is the unceremonious start to summer.  Most consider June 21, summer solstice as the start of summer.  I have also been looking at it as a way to make a difference for The Longest Day (Alzheimer’s Association – The Longest Day) for the Alzheimer’s Association.  The Beer Thrillers are looking to work on a Home Brewers Event to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association for The Longest Day for 2024.  Any ideas for venues, vendors, and / or ways to fund raise for the event don’t hesitate to reach out – thebeerthrillers@gmail.com. We can’t wait to combine our passion for craft beer with an awesome fundraising event for a worthy cause.

The Start of Summer on Alderaan – The Five Day Forecast

But first, we need to enjoy the beautiful Sunday we had today.  We checked out the local board game yard sale in Harrisburg held by Harrisburg Board Game. (Harrisburg Board Game Sale Day Event.) The yard sale was a bit of nostalgia games and lots of skill and strategy level games.  From the Facebook event for their annual Harrisburg Board Game Day 2023 “This exciting event, held once a year, is designed to bring people of all ages and skill levels together to enjoy the thrill of board games in our capital city.”

The best part was Scarlet just woke up from a nap when we pulled up so she was in the best mood.  It felt like our little 6 – month – old baby was greeting and smiling at everyone there.  Everyone was friendly and happy to discuss anything about board games.  We picked out a game to play with the kids and a game Ben used to play with friends. (I picked out Monkey Lab for the girls to play, and Ben picked out Game of Thrones: The Board Game.)

(Game of Thrones: The Board Game – 2nd Edition and Monkey Lab.)

Then we swung by YAH Brew in Hershey.  We had both been drooling over the new food offerings and finally made it work with our schedule for brunch today!  They do brunch every Sunday 9am-5pm.  What drew our attention to the brunch offerings was their Facebook post about their “Mornin’ Smash”, described on the menu as “Two ground sirloin + breakfast sausage patties topped with sausage gravy and cheddar cheese on a butter biscuit bun” But when we got their we quickly decided on the Loaded Tots since this description was equally as drool worthy “Platter of crispy tots, topped with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage gravy and cheddar cheese.  We split the tots and each got a beer.  Ben did the Imprint Beer Co, – Haze it Forward and I did the Orange Sherbet Push Pop; a sour ale with orange, vanilla and sherbet.

(Our time at YAH Brew.)

The Orange sherbet push pop sour ale definitely took me back to the summers as a kid and snacking on the Flintstones sherbet push pops.

Flinstones Push Pop

The yabba dabba do orange to be more specific.  As we enjoyed our tots and our brews with this beautiful Sunday weather we are ready to celebrate summer coming very soon, drinking many more brews on the patio at YAH Brew and fundraising for The Longest Day.

Drink More Beer!

Pigtoberfest 2022 – Boneshire Brew Works https://thebeerthrillers.com/2022/09/12/pigtoberfest-2022-boneshire-brew-works/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=pigtoberfest-2022-boneshire-brew-works Mon, 12 Sep 2022 20:58:00 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=9740
Pigtoberfest 2022 – At Boneshire Brew Works Brewery on Derry Street, in Rutherford Pennsylvania on Saturday October 1st, 2022

Pigtoberfest Time Again!

Its time for everyone’s favorite annual ‘oinking good time’ – thats right, its Pigtoberfest time again! Once again its getting to be fall time and that means Oktoberfests everywhere, and at Boneshire Brew Works – that means Pigtoberfest.

The annual Pigtoberfest is always a fun event at Boneshire Brew Works with live music, great beers, a stein holding contest, and much more. And this year’s Pigtoberfest will be no exception!

Flyer

From their e – mail flyer:

Boneshire 3rd Annual Pigtoberfest! 1 liter Steins of The Best Marzen This side of the Rhine! Bratwurst, Knockwurst, Potato Salad, Beer Cheese Soup Bavarian Stompers Start Playing at 1pm!

They also have a Facebook event:

(Edited: September 30th, 6:50AM) (The event page was updated.)

“RAIN OR SHINE! Come join us for our 3rd annual Pigtoberfest. Its time to for Oktoberfest and 1L steins of Pigtoberfest to celebrate. The Bavarian Stompers will be here with traditional German music. Bratwurst, knockwurst, sauerkraut, soft pretzels and hot dogs! We will have plenty of tables outside. Stein holding contest at 2pm!”

You can find more information at their Facebook event page here: 3rd Annual Pigtoberfest at Boneshire Brew Works on Saturday, October 1st, 2022.

Annual Pigtoberfest Beer

Each year at this time Boneshire Brew Works also releases their annual Pigtoberfest Beer. You can read our review of it here: Beer Review: Pigtoberfest (Boneshire Brew Works).

Its an extremely delicious Festbier and certainly one of my favorites of the style; especially in the local area. If you are able to get it – and not just on the 1st (during the Pigtoberfest) – be sure to stop in and try it, you won’t be disappointed a tall, I can guarantee that.

Hurricane Ian

Well, this section is an update (edited and updated on September 30th at 6 – 7AM). With Hurricane Ian this changes things a little, but the event will go on – Rain or Shine. Music will still be there, stein holding will still happen, and there will still be wonderful beers flowing and food to eat. So be sure not to miss this just due to a few sprinkles (…or torrential rainfall… either / or). The event will still go on and be just as much fun if its inside or outside have no fears of that.

Thanks For Reading

Saturday the 1st is going to be a busy day for us here at The Beer Thrillers. First off in the morning Amy and I will be volunteering with the Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk to End ALZ in Harrisburg (on City Island), then we’ll be stopping at the Polish / Slavic Fest (piroegies!) and then following that going to the Pigtoberfest. So look for us there probably around 1:30 to 2PM ish… I am guessing here, time becomes fluid once we start hitting up events. Hopefully Hurricane Ian will hold out and not turn everything into a wash fest, but we’ll see.

Fingers crossed.

(Edit: Hurricane Ian is going to be definitely playing a part, and will most likely be raining all day tomorrow – Saturday. We’ll see how this changes our plans. I know Amy’s mom SueAnne won’t be going with to the walk due to getting over a cold and having surgery on Monday. Edited on September 30th, at 7:15AM.)

(And don’t let the Breweries in PA banner with all the Oktoberfest Events mislead you… there is certainly a Pigtoberfest / Oktoberfest event going on at Boneshire Brew Works this weekend. They have several other breweries listed and shown on their image graphic / banner, but for some reason they don’t have Boneshire’s. They have Wolf’s listed, they have Pilger Ruh’s listed, Sly Fox’s, Wyndridge’s, Lost Tavern’s, and a few other’s listed, but they don’t have Boneshire Brew Works’s listed. They seem to give Boneshire Brew Works a bit of the short thrift it seems at times, but have no fear, we’ll cover them, and we’ll keep you updated. Also, have no fear, the event is certainly going on. Cheers! Edited: September 30th, 2:45PM.)

Once again, let me say thanks for reading. Hope you all have a wonderful end of September and beginning of October. There are so many fun Octoberfest events going on across the state (and across the nation… and across the world really) so get out there and enjoy some fun. I know on the 1st there is at least three events that I can think of – Pigtoberfest, Wolftoberfest, and Piltoberfest. (Boneshire Brew Works, Wolf Brewing, and Pilger Ruh Brewing respectively.) Hopefully you’ll be able to make it out to one of them.

Cheers all!

-B. Kline
