I Apologize For Nothing (by Fourscore Beer Company)

Another Futurama Monday

Welcome back for another Futurama Monday! Did you know Hulu has the episodes up basically at midnight?! I didn’t! I thought it was like Disney+ and other services where a new episode usually airs at 3:00 AM EST, but I got on last night and the newest episode was on already at 12:54 AM (EST) when I checked it out. Totally awesome and good to know I can get an early jump on each Futurama episode (since I only get to bed usually around 1 AM – 2 AM every night anyway).

Today’s Futurama themed beer is an older beer – but I did the review quite a while ago, and saved it. I had been waiting and deciding when to post the review – and then found out that the series was coming back and I thought – perfect, I’ll just wait to post it when the new season comes up. So here it is, now to be posted with the new season.

I Apologize For Nothing (pictured with Hedonism Bot on the label) came out for the Fourscore Beer Company’s 3rd Anniversary Celebration last year. (And coincidentally, they are ramping up their celebrations for this upcoming week which will be their fourth anniversary celebration. Check their Facebook page for all of their announcements. You can also see Wade Leedy posting in the Gettysburg Beer group as well about information.) Fourscore Beer Company did a big 3rd Anniversary Celebration last year with a lot of new releases and I Apologize For Nothing was one of them.

I Apologize For Nothing

I Apologize for Nothing!

A memorable quote from one of the more tertiary characters of the show – Hedonism Bot. He is only in 14 episodes and 3 of the movies, and rarely has more than one or two lines – one of which is the above line (repeated a few times over the various episodes).

In 3003, Hedonismbot attended the Big Robot Party (4ACV08). In 3004, he attended the CalculonCoilette wedding (4ACV13), and asked Fry to write an opera (4ACV18). In 3007, he saw the professor‘s doomsday devices (BBS). In 3008, he was present at the League of Robots when Bender entered the league (TBWABB). In 3009, he attended the Violet Dwarf Star Implosion (ITWGY). In 3010, he supported Proposition ∞ (6ACV04), he made a big party to celebrate his wedding to a house (6ACV07), saw Amy and Kif at the Hip Joint (6ACV08), and attended the 100th Delivery Party (6ACV12). In 3014, he was with the Planet Express Crew and the Simpsons during “the end of the world” (SABF16).

……

Hedonismbot’s behaviour resembles that of a rich decadent Roman noble of ancient times, and he is a great patron of the opera with his very own box in the Metropolitan House of Opera – he even commissioned Fry to write an opera in which Fry would perform the Holophonor (4ACV18).

Hedonismbot also enjoys a number of unconventional hedonistic pleasures, including being covered in chocolate icing, sex orgies and robosexuality.

Hedonismbot was to be married to a house in the suburbs in July of 3010, but the night before, he held a bachelor party where, due to a nuclear powered stripper malfunctioning, he was the only survivor. It is unclear if he was married or not, but as evidenced by a party in September, his hedonistic ways of promiscuity have not changed.

In a season three commentary, Matt Groening points out the importance of the name being Hedonismbot and not Hedonistbot – he is not only hedonist, he is the actual personification of hedonism.

In 3013, Leela called him a senator (7ACV21).

Hedonism Bot – The Infosphere (Futurama Wikipedia)

As his name suggests – he is a robot based around hedonism. Kind of a Caligula styled design and character attitude, all about wanton and based lusts.

Beer Review: I Apologize For Nothing

I Apologize For Nothing by Fourscore Beer Company

Beer: I Apologize For Nothing
Brewery: Fourscore Beer Co.
Style: IPA – Triple New England / Hazy
ABV: 10%
IBU: N / A
Untappd Description: Built off a base of American 2 Row and Chit malts with loads of malted and flaked oats and a very large dose of powdered Australian Sauvignon Blanc whole grape powder. Hopped in the kettle with Calypso and Centennial Cryo and triple dry hopped with Kohatu, Citra Cryo and Emerald Spire. The grape powder provides a melon forward aromatic profile that is followed by notes of under ripe pineapple and pine needles. The grape follows through in the flavor on top of a soft and juicy base. More floral notes are present here along with watermelon rind, candied pineapple and bright citrus

Bammo! Hedonism all over on this big bad TIPA (Triple IPA). It hits you right out of the gate as you start to pour it with a heady aroma of hops knocking those hedonistic senses right out of you. The Citra really shines on the nose and aroma, and you get a wealth of fruity flavors ranging from grape, pineapple, and a bit of mango and grapefruit to kind of round it out. This is a bright, juicy, powerful beer, just from the aroma alone.

The appearance is a beautiful light straw color, with a wonderful fluffy, cloud like head to it. Very soft, very pillowy, airy and light looking. (Don’t let that fool you though.) It is opaque and hazy like a New England hazy IPA should be, no real noticeable floating sediment, and as you drink it, it left wonderful lacing on the glass.

Already I know this is going to be a killer beer. As good as an explosion at Hedonism Bot’s bachelor party. (“There was bodies everywhere…. and then the explosion happened!”) Big time carbonation and continued fermentation here; big fruit flavors and the grape powder adds a nice tartness. There is a lot of flavors and interactions going on with this big bad boy of a TIPA. The tartness is paired with sweeter, gummies citrus notes Sweet, but TIPAs need that to counter the booze. The sweetness does counter balance the tartness nicely, and the hops, even New England / Hazy TIPAs can get a bit too much hop character, too much hop bite, and can be too green – they just need that fruit, that sweet, that wealth of flavors and aromas to counterbalance – otherwise it can be a bit too much, especially the higher ABV they get, the more boozy they can sometimes taste and feel. This is a very intricate and balanced beer with a lot of nuanced tastes and notes to be discovered as you drink it. Its not a sipper like a bourbon barrel aged barleywine or anything, but certainly not one you can crush or should be drinking too fast. Definitely don’t think its a four – pack in an evening type of beer either (more like one or two at most).

My Untappd Rating: ****
Global Untappd Rating: 3.95 (updated this to reflect today’s date – 8.7.23)

How the West Was 1010101010

(I don’t even know if I have the right binary above, but lets go with it.) Quick thoughts on today’s episode – I enjoyed it. So far might be my favorite episode of the season. Dwight does sound off, not sure if they recast him, or if its a thing of aging, but he sounds off. I did enjoy Roberto, Borax Kid, and all of the little character arcs of the episode. It was just a fun, old school, zany Futurama episode. Not all of the jokes fully landed, but they were still on brand for the most part, and were fun. They didn’t have to do much exposition in the episode, and I just enjoyed it. Was just a fun, Futurama episode of old.

Anniversary “Greatest Hits” Six Pack

To celebrate their third anniversary, Fourscore Beer Company is releasing a “greatest hits” six pack. They are re – releasing five of their greatest sours as well as one brand new beer to go with the pack. The following has been their Facebook (and Instagram) posts detailing the beers involved in the mix pack:

1) Soft Swerve Dole Whip

Fourscore Beer Company – Soft Swerve Dole Whip

For our 3rd anniversary, we decided to bring back 5 of our highest rated sours ever, plus one brand new addition for this year’s anniversary mixed pack!

To kick things off, we are bringing back our highest rated sour ever – the OG Soft Swerve Dole Whip! The aromatics of pineapple and vanilla bring a straight pineapple upside down cake experience. The flavor is sweet and tropical in a beer form that will absolutely remind you of the frozen dessert.

2) Blueberry Cheesecake Ice Cream Jahmba

Second up in our greatest hits mixed pack releasing next Saturday in celebration of our 3rd anniversary is…. 🥁🥁

🫐 𝗕𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗜𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗝𝗮𝗵𝗺𝗯𝗮 🍦

This is the one that started Soft Swerve. Massive jammy blueberry with a great cheesecake backbone. As with all of our cheesecake treatments, this one contains trace amounts of dairy. We can do ice cream without the dairy and lactose, but our cheesecake does contain a very small amount.

3) Soft Swerve Mango Cheesecake

Announcing Part 3 of our Anniversary Greatest Hits mixed pack – releasing next Saturday at 10am!

𝗦𝗼𝗳𝘁 𝗦𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗼 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗸𝗲

We brought a second offering back from the OG release of Soft Swerve. We scoured back through the recipe book to see how we went about this the first time around. It all started with trying to source the best mango puree around, Alphonso Mango. Prized for its flavor, aroma and creamy texture, no other mango comes close. Pair this with our cheesecake treatment (contains dairy, because – well – Cheesecake) and you have a tropical explosion melded perfectly with lingering cheesecake.

Make plans now to come help us celebrate! 🎉

Part 4 of our Anniversary Greatest Hits mixed pack is…..

🍍 𝗣𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗞𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗥

It had to be done! We had to bring this collab with the homies from the White Rabbit back. With how it was scored, you guys thought the same. Huge amounts of tropical pineapple backed with exotic Yuzu puree and a solid heaping of coconut cream. The inspiration of this one was always a Painkiller cocktail, but with an exotic twist.

6) Jahmba Gelato

Announcing the last addition to our Anniversary mixed 6 pack releasing next Saturday. This one is not one we did before, but we think it will rate right up there with the rest!!

𝐶𝑜𝑙𝑙𝑎𝑏 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑇𝑖𝑛 𝐵𝑎𝑟𝑛 𝐵𝑟𝑒𝑤𝑖𝑛𝑔.

We got together with our good friends from Chester, NY to combine our fruited sour brain power. For our end of the collab, we took influence from true Italian gelatos and went with a concept based on one of the top selling gelato flavors, Bacio. Think milk chocolate with fresh hazelnut. We of course had to add our own twist and we conditioned it on loads of strawberry, blueberry, blackberry and boysenberry.

But Wait….. There’s More

On top of their “Greatest Hits” Mixed Six Pack, they are also releasing even more beers! (Nobody certainly ever said Fourscore Beer Co. doesn’t go all out!). The following are further releases scheduled for this Saturday.

Peach and Quiet

Fourscore Beer Company – Peach and Quiet

This Saturday is our third Anniversary celebration!! So far we announced our mixed 6 pack. Next up is our Foeder Aged Farmhouse Wit conditioned on local peaches.

🍑 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗤𝘂𝗶𝗲𝘁 🍑

Foeder Aged Farmhouse Wit with Peaches – We took our mixed culture fermented farmhouse with local grain that spent over a year in our custom foeders and conditioned it on hundreds of pounds of local Adams County freestone peaches for nearly an entire year. Post aging, we bottle conditioned it for the most natural experience possible, lending a nicely carbonated yet still soft textured experience.

Hazy Triple IPA w/ wine powder – Built off a base of American 2 Row and Chit malts with loads of malted and flaked oats and a very large dose of powdered Australian Sauvignon Blanc whole grape powder. More floral notes are present here along with watermelon rind, candied pineapple and bright citrus.

You can bet we’ll try and get our hands on this one to review. Our love here at The Beer Thrillers knows no bound for Futurama. (We actually fell asleep last night with Futurama on from Hulu – woke up this morning to the “The Devil’s Hands Are Idle Playthings” episode – one of my favorites.)

Who wants some more?!?!?

Here’s yet another Anniversary release coming your way this Saturday, August 13 at 10am.

𝗗𝗿𝗲𝗶 𝗚𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗿

(15%) Blended Barrel Aged Imperial Stout with Coffee, Peanut Butter, Marshmallow and Vanilla. We took stock from 4 different barrel aged stouts (16 month Templeton Rye, 12 month Buffalo Trace, 3 year Four Roses OESK and 3 year Four Roses OBSO), blended them together and aged them extensively on pounds of Tahitian Vanilla beans. We then added peanut butter powder, bourbon barrel aged coffee and marshmallow to give the ultimate sweet treat.

Round 3

Fourscore Beer Company – Round 3

This weekend we are celebrating Round 3 and are super excited to have our Anniversary release collab with @otherhalfnyc!!!

𝗥𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗗 𝟯

Hazy DIPA Collab w/ Other Half

Built off of a base of American Pilsner, and various oats and wheat. Hopped in the kettle with Citra Incognito and Motueka, then triple dry hopped with Citra Spectrum, Nectaron and Riwaka. Fermented with a brand new Thiolized yeast strain from our friends at Omega. The aromatics are all fresh peaches and white grapefruit with a slightly over ripe pineapple backdrop over a bright golden hue. The mouthfeel is lush and creamy with more peach, pineapple and just enough bitter for a balance. The ABV is well hidden and deceitful.

Last, but not least…

🍓 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗸𝗿𝗿𝘁

Rum Barrel Aged Fruited Sour – How could we only do one collab with the homies from @otherhalfnyc? We took our barrel aged sour game to the next level on this one. After sharing around the first take on our barrel aged Jahmba at a fest, we figured that we needed to combine forces to make a beer that is truly next level. We aged our house sour base in a rum barrel and then took this cocktail influenced concept and added a ton of jammy fresh strawberry puree. After getting that perfect daiquiri consistency and flavor, we brought the next level of intrigue in with some top notch lychee puree. The combo provided to be sweet, boozy and flat out amazing.

Beer Review: S’Mores LazaRIS (Boneshire Brew Works) https://thebeerthrillers.com/2019/11/07/beer-review-smores-lazaris-boneshire-brew-works/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=beer-review-smores-lazaris-boneshire-brew-works Fri, 08 Nov 2019 03:00:46 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=1177
S’Mores LazaRIS by Boneshire Brew Works (Photo taken at the 3rd Anniversary Party)

Undoubtedly the biggest, baddest, best beer and possibly the most popular one that Boneshire Brew Works is known for is LazaRIS. It’s their flagship stout, and their biggest, boldest, darkest beer (Dark of the Forest coming in a close second.) (Also, be on the lookout soon for a review of LazaRIS – the original – by J. Doncevic soon.) So, over the past three years there’s been a few varieties and variants done by the brewmaster Alan Miller of Boneshire Brew Works; some of which include Coconut, Pumpkin, Pumpkin Spice, Tiramisu, and a few others – and now finally a s’mores version. And I think Alan might have outdone himself on this one.

For the 3rd Anniversary Party, Alan – and Boneshire Brew Works – released a few variants of the mainstay staple LazaRIS. Including a firkin of the Tiramisu, a coconut one, the Pumpkin spice, and s’mores. The Tiramisu, coconut, and Pumpkin Spice ones were done before, but the s’mores was a brand new one. So thus I decided to start there with my reviews on it. And I’ll let J. Doncevic do a full write-up on the original LazaRIS to give this some more meaning. Once he gets his review up, I’ll link to it, so you can read up on it and get a better understanding of this beer.

Out of all of the variants released (and re-released) at the 3rd Anniversary party, this by far blew me away, and was my uncontested favorite of the bunch – unsettling and toppling the previous – Tiramisu one. Though, the original LazaRIS is equal to all of these for its own unique reasons, I feel like this s’mores variant is leap years above all of the other variants, and is just my absolute favorite.

S’Mores LazaRIS by Boneshire Brew Works (photo taken at the Halloween Bash Party about a week after the 3rd Anniversary Party) (Daughter’s game of Chutes and Ladders going on in the background)

Beer: S’Mores LazaRIS
Brewery: Boneshire Brew Works
Style: Stout – Imperial / Double
ABV: 9.5%
IBU: None
Untappd Write-Up: Our Russian Imperial Stout, LazaRIS, with the addition of s’mores flavorings.
Original LazaRIS Write-Up: LazaRIS rises from the dead with with its rich and complex flavors of a Russian Imperial Stout.

The original LazaRIS stout is certainly rich and complex; and this version is no different.

Aroma is very heavy malt, caramel chocolate like notes, sweet vanilla notes, with a bready biscotti or graham cracker like smell lingering on the underneath of it all. The malt and grain notes are strong, roast, caramel chocolate, and give it a good backbone to the adjunct additions of marshmallow, graham, and vanilla.

Appearance is your typical stout look; like I’m constantly saying in this blog. Its Razor Ramon hair dark black. Its heavy looking, its thick looking, its full bodied, like a good woman (or man). There is a thin head to this, not a big foamy head, but a small circling ring with white going to brown foam, there is a lot of bubbles to the head that are varying shape and size.

Now lets move onto the real gem of this beauty; its taste. Hmmm mmmm hmmm mmmm. The taste is so fantastic. There is booze, there is depth, there is heavyness, thickness, there is wonderful malt, wonderful grain, wonderful notes of all of the adjuncts, there is just so much flavor and complexity, so much richness and decadence to this brew that its much to list and describe. Starting with first notes; you get a caramel and roast malt taste on initial impression with some booze heavyness to it but not overpowering or disturbing, this then seeps into the malts going more chocolate and roasty and toasty; but then the adjuncts quickly take over – you get marshmallow and vanilla notes. Quickly you get the full dark cooking chocolate for the s’more, and then a nice underlying bready, biscuit, graham cracker flavor that gives it a nice soft ending, a nice backbone to it all that ties in perfectly with the roast malt, the caramel chocolate malt, and the heavy grain bill. Making this just one fantastic, wonderful, rich, tasty, complex beer.

That makes this one fantastic and perfect beer on a super ugly Pennsylvania fall-into-winter day like today. ESPECIALLY when that day happens to also be National Stout Day.

Still on tap at Boneshire Brewery on Derry Street in Rutherford, so be sure to stop in! It certainly won’t last much longer!

My Untappd Rating: ****.50
Global Untappd Rating: 4.02 (as of 11.7.19, National Stout Day)

So, funny thing about this article, this was meant to be done SOOOOO MUCH EARLIER in the day…. but so much in the day came up and happened. (Joys of your days off being consumed by kiddos and doctor appointments, and drama rehearsals, and bingo, and all kinds of things.)

But I originally grabbed a can of Edmund Oast’s and Westerbrook’s “There’s Nuttin’ Butter Than Cam Pants” – thinking it’d make for a perfect stout on National Stout Day, and a great beer to review for it…. well, lo and behold my surprise when I realize after pouring it and taking my first sip (appearance was the first give-away) that it was actually in fact a barleywine. *Face-Palm*. Well, what else was I to do but make sure I had a fantastic stout later in the day to make sure I do a stout review on Stout day?

Needless to say, this was a great stout for the day. Such a super ugly, dreary, miserable mess of a day, but a super wonderful, fantastic, rich, beer from one of my favorites breweries, definitely made it all better! I can’t recommend this beer, and this brewery enough or more. So make sure you stop out and check them out on Derry Street in Rutherford PA (located in between Harrisburg and Hummelstown Pennsylvania; right by the 717 Armory).

And yes, I know, yesterday I hinted at getting two blogs today done; and I wanted to. But it just didn’t happen. Normally, this review would have been done early in the day, and then a second review done up later today (like NOW time) if I had the chance. But unfortunately, life does intervene. But no worries, still got it done, and still on target for 30 for 30; now sitting comfortably at 7 for 7.

Cheers All!

Boneshire Brew Works 3rd Anniversary Celebration https://thebeerthrillers.com/2019/10/24/boneshire-brew-works-3rd-anniversary-celebration/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=boneshire-brew-works-3rd-anniversary-celebration Thu, 24 Oct 2019 16:35:00 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=1011
The 3rd Anniversary Celebration banner on Boneshire Brew Work’s Facebook page

Its time to celebrate, its time to party! Its been a wonderful and amazing three years for Boneshire Brew Works; who are celebrating their rd Anniversary this weekend. Starting Friday and going into Saturday they are having a celebration to commemorate their three years of brewing.

It kicks off tonight (Thursday, 10.24.19) with a “run” and a firkin of their Tiramisu LazaRis from 5-9 with 1$ off drafts. This event sponsored by the Harrisburg Beer Runners is a preliminary kickoff to the weekend festivities. The patio will be all day and night today, Friday, and Saturday (weather permitting).

Alexis preparing to tap the Tiramisu LazaRIS firkin

The weather is supposed to be beautiful tonight, tomorrow, and Saturday, so take full advantage of the patio, and should be a beautiful night for a run up (and down) the hills. The patio is located directly in front of the Boneshire Brew Works storefront where the old parking spots were (don’t fear, there is still plenty of parking spaces to go around).

Boneshire’s new patio out front

There is several picnic areas, a large space to hang out and drink at, and cornhole set-up. There is also water dishes for dogs (or cats I suppose) and pets are welcome.

Boneshire Bew Works’ poster for their big celebration

As Boneshire Brew Works mentions and lists on their Facebook page, its been a busy week for them, with the celebration being the capper to the week. Their Facebook page listing shows events for the week as such:
* Monday: D and D with Hobert and Megan
* Tuesday: Brewery Bingo with Jared
* Wednesday: Trivia with Alexis
* Thursday: Happy Hour and Firkin
* Friday: 3rd Anniversary Kickoff with Music w/Jason Carst

Definitely sounds like a busy week, but just a normal week for Boneshire in some aspects. Its always been a busy brewery with lots of happenings and events and things to do, but its also just a fantastic place to sit back, relax, and hang out with friends (either indoors and / or now outdoors).

One of the key components of this celebration is the music. A few live music acts to help down those beers. And they are:
* Friday: Jason Carst – 7 – 9 PM
* Saturday: Nate Meyers & The Aces – 1 – 4 PM

All wonderful music acts and all definitely ones to check out.

Pumpkin LazaRIS

But lets talk about the beer. Thats what we all are really coming there for right? Well, they’ve been a bit tight-lipped about their special “one offs” and beer releases, but there has been a few rumors circulating.

The biggest leading rumors for beers on tap are LazaRIS themed. The big one being a pumpkin or pumpkin spice variant (that was released once before). There’s been several very popular variants of the LazaRIS over the years. All beloved by the Boneshire regulars (sometimes affectionately referred to as Boneheads); some of these variants were: coconut, chocolate, blood orange, vanilla, and many more.

Red Charlatan

Another rumor is the possible return of the fabled Red Charlatan. A definite must try and one of the best sours in the south Central PA area. If this is coming back, you can darn well bet I’ll be in line for that first thing.

Make sure to check out their Untappd page on your phone (or the desktop site as well; though I think its easier to do this on the mobile app) and select ‘alert all’ so you get all the updates on their tap list changes, as well as events coming up. This is a great way to keep up to date on what the current tap list is at the Boneshire Brewery.

Hopefully we’ll see you out, I know me and J. Doncevic will be there Friday, and possibly even Saturday after I get off of work I might stop in again. This is always a great weekend every year at Boneshire and a pleasure to be around so many craft beer loving enthusiasts in the area. Check out the Tiramisu firkin tonight and definitely try out whatever beers they put on tap tomorrow and Saturday, I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

Flight of various LazaRIS varients

So please make sure to stop out, enjoy your time, and have fun, drink responsibly, and make sure to tip your bartender. Jason, Alexis, Jared, Owen, Shawn, etc, all do a fabulous job. Make sure to give a tip of your hat to Alan for making the great beers, and seek out Carson and Alex as well as I’m sure they’ll be in the area. All do a wonderful and fantastic job at Boneshire Brew Works and all deserve lots of credit for all the hard work they do.

Cheers everyone!

Beer Review: Irish Table (Fonta Flora Brewery) https://thebeerthrillers.com/2019/10/23/beer-review-irish-table-fonta-flora-brewery/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=beer-review-irish-table-fonta-flora-brewery Thu, 24 Oct 2019 03:45:00 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=994
Irish Table by Fonta Flora Brewery

This started somewhat late at night, I worked from 10-6PM, I was up at 6AM to get my oldest to school, then at 815AM walked my younger two to their school, then work from 10-6, and immediately after work I had to do training for a new variant of a game we have on the floor (Face Up Pai Gow rather than just regular Pai Gow Poker), after this I drove fast to get to Mid-Town Scholar for a speech / lecture from philosopher Eleanor Gordon-Smith, proceeding this (and wandering around the bookstore – good god I shouldn’t be allowed alone in bookstores – for a good twenty-thirty minutes) I walked down to ZeroDay and had a wonderful flight, following this I had to stop at Wal-Mart for cat food. …and my night was still not quite done. Had to drop stuff off at my parents and walked my dog; all told I got home and finally sat down around 11-11:15PM. And thats when I did my book review from the day (finished a wonderful book on what the mind sees while reading) and then I finally started this beer review.

Whew…. sorry for the long introduction, but I just want to preface how this review started up, and how my day was, so you get some kind of idea in case its not what you thought, or not what you wanted, etc.

Again, as the same with the Sour Me Peach Sherbert and the Athena beer reviews, this one I had last thursday when it was crazy windy and even raining and such. (My Untappd review says “You know its Windy when a cat flys by.”)

But this was a part of the South Carolina beer mail I got, and working through them all for reviews. On a rainy, very windy, dreary, cold, day, a dry irish stout is the perfect remedy.

Beer Mail from South Carolina

Sadly, from another local for local beer it forward chain, I received a rather lackluster beer mail package:

Weak beer mail

I had sent 8 16oz cans, an assortment of Boneshire Brew Works, Tattered Flag, Troegs Brewing, and Pizza Boy. I received from the next person in the chain 2 16oz cans and 4 12oz cans. The New Heights pictured there was canned on 12.28.18, so nearly a full year old as well. The Wise Acre’s aren’t much fresher, and sadly are also somewhat locally distributed. But oh well though, win some, lose some, its all hit or miss anyway.

So enough deliberating and talking about this or that, and lets move onto the beer review itself:

The back of the Irish Table can

Beer: Irish Table
Brewery: Fonta Flora Brewery
Style: Stout – Irish Dry
ABV: 4.5%
IBU: 38
Untappd Write-Up: (Blank)

Appearance is very black, with a nice brown ring of a head. Not a crazy foamy head but a small bubbling bit of froth to it. The bubbles are disperse and varied, no big popping ones. The beer is reflective black deep and dark.

You can practically smell the dry Irish-ness of this as soon as the can is cracked. There’s definite notes of coffee grounds, notes of the darker grains and barley, with hints of chocolate. A roasty smell lingers over it all.

Immediately its dry, its roasty, there’s the notes of chocolate, dark grain, coffee, a genuine heavyness and dryness to it. The flavors combine as you drink and lend it a very interesting texture and mixture. It stays dry throughout like it should. There’s nothing offending or off about this, no burnt, no peaty or earth flavors that disrupt the beer and what their going for. Just a nice relaxing, good morning, good evening, good rainy day, good sunny day, good any time beer that is easy to crack and drink, and with a low 4.5% won’t upset your day. The 38IBU does lend it a bit of bitterness, but completely in a pleasant and pleasing way.

My Untappd Rating: ****
Global Untappd Rating: 3.78 (as of 10.23.19)

For Thursday look forward to some more beer reviews, and a write-up about Boneshire Brew Work’s 3rd Anniversary Celebration that kicks off Friday night (10.25.19).

So definitely be on the lookout for those. I also think J. Doncevic will be posting a review Thursday, and the two of us will be collaborating on a post-Anniversary write-up.

Cheers!

-B. Kline
