Justin Taylor, co-founder and second-generation familial brewer, has been honing his craft since learning to brew with his father at a young age. Troegs Brewing Releasing Second Cut Mango Double IPA https://thebeerthrillers.com/2024/04/18/troegs-brewing-releasing-second-cut-mango-double-ipa/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=troegs-brewing-releasing-second-cut-mango-double-ipa Thu, 18 Apr 2024 12:27:15 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=14814

Second Cut Double Mango IPA (photo courtesy of Troegs Brewing)

Troegs Brewing Releasing Second Cut DIPA

Back in October of 2023 we announced that Troegs Brewing would be releasing a “Double Cut” version of First Cut, and its finally time for the release. Welcome to Second Cut DIPA. The newest scheduled ‘once a year’ or ‘yearly’ release by Troegs Brewing in their DIPA (Double IPA) series. Second Cut will be releasing on April 22nd, 2024. (Perfectly in time for Earth Day.)

Unlike the above original label image, the Second Cut DIPA will be coming in at 8.5% ABV rather than 9.5%. It will be a Double IPA and is based off the Scratch 507 formula and recipe. It is a double version of First Cut IPA – so expect bright flavorful notes of Mango.

The newest DIPA to hit Troegs Brewery is an amplified version of First Cut IPA. A mango hoppy IPA that is a fan favorite at the brewery that sees just brewery release (and in this year’s fashion also limited local distribution). Second Cut DIPA will be seeing distribution as is befitting a new ‘once a year’ beer at Troegs. Expect it out on the markets starting on April 22nd, gradually hitting the further away markets as the days go by.

Second Cut DIPA is similar in how Troegs has released Double Nugget Nectar and Double Perpetual IPA. (Look for Double Perpetual IPA to be making a return later this year as well.)

First Cut

From our previous article – Second Cut DIPA Releasing This Spring – here are the notes of First Cut. Expect this x2 for Second Cut IPA:

The First Cut is a fan favorite and has a bit of a ‘cult following’ at the brewery. It is a 6.2% IPA – American style, with 45 IBU. Its typically released late February to early March each year at the brewery in Hershey. It has over 52,000 ratings on Untappd with a global average rating of 3.79 (as of 10.13.23). The Untappd description reads: Each spring, hop growers dust off their pruning shears and trim the first shoots, bolstering the bines for a rich growing season. First Cut – a mouthful of silky Simcoe and a touch of mango – is a nod to this ritual, without which the world would be a less hoppy place.

Second Cut DIPA Releasing This Spring – First Cut Notes

Release

Second Cut Mango DIPA will be releasing on April 22nd, 2024 at the brewery as well as in distribution. The brewery opens at 11:30AM Monday, April 22nd, 2024. Second Cut will come in four packs of 16 oz pounder cans, and in cases. It will also be on draft in the store. There could potentially be sixtels for sale for customers as well. There is currently no listed limits for the purchases, and online sales of the beer will go live at 11:30AM as well.

Second Cut Release

(Update: 4.21.24)

Second Cut IPA

From Troegs Brewing’s Facebook post today:

As the hop growing season flourishes, farmers dust off their pruning shears bolstering the bines climbing skyward. Two days until a new seasonal Double IPA arrives. #Troegs#DoubleIPA

Toppling Goliath Teams Up with Field Museum for Nectaron Dry Hop Pseudo Sue https://thebeerthrillers.com/2024/03/15/toppling-goliath-teams-up-with-field-museum-for-nectaron-dry-hop-pseudo-sue/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=toppling-goliath-teams-up-with-field-museum-for-nectaron-dry-hop-pseudo-sue Fri, 15 Mar 2024 12:28:51 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=14634 Toppling Goliath and Field Museum Have Teamed Up to Make Nectaron Dry Hopped Pseudo Sue

Nectaron Dry Hopped Pseudo Sue

Introducing the Nectaron Dry Hop Pseudo Sue, a pale ale uniquely dry-hopped with Nectaron hops. This brew is a collaborative effort with the Field Museum, boasting a 5.8% ABV. Here’s a glimpse of the 16oz can – keep an eye out for more information on its release.

Pseudo Sue is one of Toppling Goliath’s most notable beers and they have done several different variations over the years. This is a Nectaron Dry Hopped version of the Pseudo Sue.

It will be released in 16 oz pounder cans and will most likely be released at the Toppling Goliath brewery in Decorah, Iowa; as well as possibly throughout their regular distribution footprint.

For more information on Field Museum, you can visit their website here: Field Museum.org.

Pseudo Sue

Toppling Goliath’s Pseudo Sue is a heralded American Pale Ale that has captivated beer enthusiasts with its exceptional clarity, smooth profile, and a vibrant showcase of hops. It’s renowned for its single-hop focus on the Citra hop, which imparts lush aromas and flavors of tropical fruits, citrus, and a delicate balance of pine. This beer pours a beautiful, clear golden color with a frothy white head, inviting the first sip with its enticing aroma.

The flavor profile of Pseudo Sue is a masterclass in balance and refinement. The Citra hops deliver a juicy burst of mango, orange, and a hint of grapefruit, complemented by a mild, biscuity malt backbone that allows the hop character to shine brightly without overwhelming bitterness. It’s medium-bodied with a crisp, clean finish that makes it incredibly refreshing and sessionable.

Pseudo Sue pays homage to the Field Museum’s famous T. rex skeleton, Sue, symbolizing the beer’s formidable presence in the craft beer world, much like Sue’s in the realm of paleontology. This beer has not only become a flagship offering for Toppling Goliath, based in Decorah, Iowa, but it has also garnered acclaim and awards, solidifying its status as a must-try for hop lovers and craft beer aficionados alike.

Troegs Brewing and Dewey Beer Releasing a Collaboration – Adventure Was Promised

As part of their new ‘collaboration’ series this year – Troegs Brewing will be teaming up with Dewey Beer Company to release a new DIPA – Adventure was Promised. Previously made in Dewey (by Dewey Beer and Troegs Brewing) it was a TIPA (Triple IPA). This year’s release will be a DIPA and is being brewed in Hershey at the Troegs Brewery.

Troegs Brewing is doing a series of IPAs that are collaborations this year. They started with a “self collaboration” of Snowy White IPA, and they will be later teaming up with Warwick Farms Brewing, Tonewood Brewing, Sworn Brewing, AntiFragile Brewing, Free Will Brewing, and others. Stick around for more information on those.

Adventure Was Promised

Adventure Was Promised will be a 7.6% DIPA using Cashmere and Citra hops. Brewed on the brew deck at Troegs Brewery with the crew from Dewey Beer Co. It will be released in 16 oz pounder cans, and will see a limited distribution run. Mostly limited to the areas near Troegs Brewery and Dewey’s breweries. It will also be on draft for a limited time as well.

Susquehanna Brewing Company to Release Revenge Of The Muffin Man https://thebeerthrillers.com/2024/02/07/susquehanna-brewing-company-to-release-revenge-of-the-muffin-man/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=susquehanna-brewing-company-to-release-revenge-of-the-muffin-man Wed, 07 Feb 2024 16:40:18 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=14307

Revenge of the Muffin Man by Susquehanna Brewing Company (SBC)

Susquehanna Brewing Company to Release Revenge Of The Muffin Man

This might win the year’s “Weirdest Name” category – at least so far – Revenge of the Muffin Man will be released by Susquehanna Brewing Company this year. Scheduled to be released on February 23rd at the Pittston, PA brewery (no word on distribution at this point), this ale “baked in” with blueberries will be bursting onto their taps starting at 12 – noon. It is scheduled to be on draft and in 16 oz (pounder) cans starting February 23rd at the brewery.

The description for the beer is as follows:

This ale will send shivers down your spine with its ghostly notes of perfected spice blends and delicious blueberries! If there was ever a time to try a new ale, it’s now! Revenge of the Muffin Man is an exciting addition to our already stacked line-up of craft beers!

Revenge of the Muffin Man will be an ale brewed with blueberries and will be baked up to a 8.5% ABV and will be cooked with 10 IBU.

I love blueberry muffins, and blueberry beers usually hit me just right (though some can be too funky), but based on the can art for this alone I want to give it a try. I’ll be checking local beer and bottle shops like Breski’s Beverage and West Connection Beer Vault to see if it pops up in there. Also might be incentive to get up and visit the brewery again.

Cordial Elf Grand Cru Releases Thursday https://thebeerthrillers.com/2024/01/31/cordial-elf-grand-cru-releases-thursday/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=cordial-elf-grand-cru-releases-thursday Wed, 31 Jan 2024 13:56:38 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=13735 Cordial Elf is Back, and This Time Its Gonna be Grand

The Cordial Elf is back for your Valentine’s Day needs, but this year – its gonna be grand!

This year Cordial Elf is using the Mad Elf Grand Cru base (rather than regular Mad Elf like last year), and they will be using a chocolate syrup in the recipe rather than cocoa nibs as an addition. These changes will be giving the beer a more robust, poignant, and rich taste.

Cordial Elf Grand Cru will be releasing tomorrow – Thursday – February 1st, 2024. It will be sold in 16 oz cans, in four packs, cases, and singles, at the Hershey brewery only. This will be a brewery exclusive to the Hershey Troegs Brewery.

On Valentine’s Day there will be a special ‘booked tour’ beer dinner in their barrel room. This will be a multiple course meal and will come with a different Troegs beer pairing for each course. As of right now, the only known beer that will be served is the Cordial Elf Grand Cru.

Tomorrow is the release of Cordial Elf Grand Cru at the Hershey’s Troegs Brewery. The brewery is located at 200 E Hershey Park Drive, Hershey, Pennsylvania. It will be on draft, as well as for sale in the general store. No word on to – go limits as of now.

Troegs Independent Brewing just released Little Nator on Monday, as well as their Perpetual Exploration Variety Pack. Both are available in the general store. They will be releasing First Cut at the end of February.

Double Nugget Nectar in Cans

Double Nugget Nectar will be released in cans to go on Monday, January 22nd, 2024. They come in 16 oz “pounder” cans. You can purchase them as a single, in a four pack, and in cases.

The general store and the tasting room opens at 11:30 AM on Monday.

Double Nugget Nectar

Beer: Double Nugget Nectar
Brewery: Tröegs Independent Brewing
Style: Red Ale – Imperial / Double
ABV: 9.5%
IBU: N / A
Untappd Description: Let’s take Nugget and double it. Well, it wasn’t quite that easy, but it sure was a fun balancing act. To start, we boosted the Simcoe, and this complex hop’s notes of apricot, peach rings and bright citrus are the star of the show. Azacca enters the picture to add hints of juicy orchard fruit, and Munich malt brings a bready sweetness. To strike a balancing note, Columbus joins Nugget hops, grounding this limited release with a layer of dank pine.
Global Untappd Rating: 4.23

Logyard Brewing Releasing Giggle Water

Logyard Brewing is releasing “Giggle Water” a new, RTD (Ready to Drink – cocktail style drink). This variant is a Moscow Mule style RTD. It is a malt beverage with ginger and limes, and will be about 6% ABV. They are going to be selling it in 16 oz “pounder” cans.

They are also releasing “Climb it Activist”, a hazy double IPA that will be 8.3% ABV. It also will be released in 16 oz pounder cans.

Logyard Brewing

Logyard Brewing is located in Kane, PA. You can find their brewery at: 103 N Fraley St, Kane, PA 16735. Kane is near Kinzua Bridge – the famous railroad bridge that was half destroyed by a tornado, and makes for an excellent tourist spot and hiking area. You can read up on that here: History of Kinzua Bridge.

My oldest three daughters and I got to visit Kinzua Bridge and Logyard Brewing in 2019. Lily absolutely loved the beer cheese and the nachos at the brewery. Kane is a quaint little town, and very cute, and the brewery plays up the lumberjack, logging, and tree theme to perfection.

You can read about our trip here:
