What has become tradition, hundreds of guests are welcomed by the beloved local brewery, looking to take home four different varieties of their rare liquid, available for one day only.

Black Friday Snakes – 2025

A yearlong planning process culminates into one of the biggest beer release events in Southeast Wisconsin, Lakefront Brewery’s Black Friday.

“We typically start discussing next year’s Black Friday beer pretty shortly after the current year”, says Luther Paul, Lakefront’s Head Brewer, “with these beers needing several months to age properly in barrels, it’s a year-round labor of love creating the finest liquid we can for those making the trek to see us that day.”

Attendees line up as early as the night before to ensure a chance at their desired allotment of Black Fridaybeer. Many have turned it into a tradition, collecting multiple years of Black Fridayto share with friends and family over the holidays and beyond. Lakefront will be offering their famous Black Friday Burrito and coffee out of their food truck starting at 6am. Lakefront Brewery co-founders Russ and Jim Klisch will open their doors at 8am when sales begin. “It’s one of my favorite moments of the year”, says Brewery President Russ Klisch, “the excitement outside our doors is undeniable, you have to experience it”.

Warm Hearts Coat Drive

For the third year in a row, Lakefront is excited to announce the return of the Warm Hearts Community Coat Drive benefiting students of George Washington Carver Elementary. LAKEFRONT BREWERY FRIED UP BIG NUMBERS FOR NATIONAL CHEESE CURD DAY https://thebeerthrillers.com/2025/10/16/lakefront-brewery-fried-up-big-numbers-for-national-cheese-curd-day/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=lakefront-brewery-fried-up-big-numbers-for-national-cheese-curd-day Fri, 17 Oct 2025 00:24:29 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=16673 LAKEFRONT BREWERY FRIED UP BIG NUMBERS FOR NATIONAL CHEESE CURD DAY

Patrons took full advantage of the cheesiest day of the year at Lakefront Brewery as they celebrated their crown jewel, Wisconsin fresh, fried cheese curds.

(See article: CHEESE CURD SLINGIN’ EXPERTS, LAKEFRONT BREWERY, PREPARE TO CELEBRATE ANOTHER NATIONAL CHEESE CURD DAY)

Cheese Curd Pull Competition

On Wednesday, October 15th, from 2pm to 9pm, Lakefront Brewery welcomed hundreds of cheese curd fanatics looking to commemorate the big day. Tying in their Curd of the Month specialty flavor offerings, 3 different specialty curds made their debut: Chicken N’ Waffle, French Onion, and Caramel Apple Cheesecake. With each flavor going head-to-head, Chicken N’ Waffle inched out French Onion by 7 orders with a total of 133 baskets. Due to their shared popularity, Lakefront is excited to announce that both flavors will be included in their 2026 Curd of the Month calendar! If you couldn’t make it down to their Beer Hall, look for those two flavors in 2026. All 12 Curd of the Month flavors for 2026 will be announced soon.

Curd Card

National Cheese Curd Day also served as the launch of Lakefront’s new Curd Card. Get 11 orders of their delicious fried cheese curds and get the 12th one for free. Become a Curd Card-Carrying Member the next time you need your cheese curd fix at the Beer Hall.

As promised, the Cheese Curd Pull Competition was fierce. Several times throughout the day, up to 10 teams of 2 lined up and attempted to pull apart a fluffy curd to the longest length they could. Team Curd Pullers set the record with a monstrous 4-foot pull. The time to start practicing for next year is now. Winners of each competition took home two $15 gift cards to Lakefront Brewery.

Freshly Fried Curds

After their Beer Hall kitchen cranked out over 1 order of curds per minute totaling roughly 235 pounds of fried cheese curds for the day, Lakefront Brewery wants to thank the community for showing up and showing out for National Cheese Curd Day. Wisconsinites across the state would be proud.

LAKEFRONT BREWERY TEAMS UP WITH BADGER STATE BREWING TO DELIVER A NEW TAKE ON GREEN BAY’S GOLD PACKAGE https://thebeerthrillers.com/2025/08/12/lakefront-brewery-teams-up-with-badger-state-brewing-to-deliver-a-new-take-on-green-bays-gold-package/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=lakefront-brewery-teams-up-with-badger-state-brewing-to-deliver-a-new-take-on-green-bays-gold-package Wed, 13 Aug 2025 01:40:17 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=16570 LAKEFRONT BREWERY TEAMS UP WITH BADGER STATE BREWING TO DELIVER A NEW TAKE ON GREEN BAY’S GOLD PACKAGE

After a successful release last year, both breweries look forward to back-to-back wins. This year’s Gold Package collaboration is a Golden Helles Lager brewed at Lakefront’s facility in Milwaukee.

Gold Package

Two breweries with matching reputations for great beer have teamed up once again. Aptly named after Green Bay season ticket holders primarily based in Milwaukee, Gold Package will be available in both kegs and 6-packs across Wisconsin with an emphasis in the Milwaukee and Green Bay markets.

“I knew Kevin Kuzlik since before he joined Badger State as their Director of Sales, so I reached out as soon as I knew he landed in Green Bay”, says AJ Belling, Northern Wisconsin Sales Rep for Lakefront Brewery, “this collaboration is all about great friendships, quality beer, and showcasing our collective brewing expertise.” “Our former Lead Brewer, Ryan Hillesland, is now the Head Brewer over there, which gave us all the more reason to partner with our friends up north,” says Belling.

The Gold Package Six Pack

“It is quite an honor for us to collaborate with Lakefront Brewery again this year on Gold Package”, says Kuzlik of the Green Bay brewery, “last year we went through 21,000 cans and 150 kegs of it. I can’t wait for beer drinkers across the state to get their hands on this year’s version!”

Just in time for preseason, Gold Package was brewed with Pilsner, Light Munich, and Vienna malts making it a light-bodied, easy-drinking, golden brew rich in flavors of freshly baked bread and honey, with a crisp lager finish. Enjoy this one all season long while supplies last, available wherever you get your Badger State or Lakefront fix in Wisconsin.

LAKEFRONT BREWERY PARTNERS WITH BENNO’S CONCESSIONS AT THE WISCONSIN STATE FAIR https://thebeerthrillers.com/2025/07/22/lakefront-brewery-partners-with-bennos-concessions-at-the-wisconsin-state-fair/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=lakefront-brewery-partners-with-bennos-concessions-at-the-wisconsin-state-fair Tue, 22 Jul 2025 17:13:02 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=16520 LAKEFRONT BREWERY PARTNERS WITH BENNO’S CONCESSIONS AT THE WISCONSIN STATE FAIR

Longtime State Fair aficionados, Benno’s Concessions, are teaming up with Milwaukee mainstay, Lakefront Brewery, to bring you your new favorite State Fair hangout, the “Lakefront Brewery Biergarten”.

Lakefront Brewery Biergarten

Located in the heart of the park, not far from the Bank Five Nine Amphitheater, the Lakefront Brewery Biergarten will be serving up their refreshing beers, slushies, cocktails, and mocktails. You can rely on a Lakefront lineup featuring Riverwest Stein, IPA, Hazy Rabbit, Dive Beer, Fruit Wagon, Oktoberfest, as well as their gluten-free New Grist Pilsner and New Grist Gosa Rita in cans.

“It’s always great to be represented at the best State Fair in the country and partnering with such an experienced State Fair crew like Benno’s”, says Russ Klisch, Owner of Lakefront Brewery.

While Benno’s has poured Lakefront products at the fair in the past, this will be the first year partnering on a stand together. “We’re beyond excited to partner with Lakefront Brewery at our new Lakefront Biergarten location at the Wisconsin State Fair”, says Jacob Hicks, Marketing and Promotions Manager for Benno’s Concessions, “both Benno’s and Lakefront are proud family-founded businesses with deep Milwaukee roots. It means a lot to us to come together to create something special for fairgoers; a true hometown collaboration built on great beer and great people.”

It’s not just beer here. Find classic cocktails like Bloody Marys, Old Fashioneds, and Margaritas. Frozen cocktails like the Lakefront Fruit Wagon Slush, Cold Fashioned, and Strawberry Daiquiri. There will also be non-alcoholic options with a selection of mocktails, Extended Play IPA NA, and Eastside Dark NA from Lakefront Brewery.

A stone’s throw from the amphitheater, plenty of bar games to bring the fun, and a slew of refreshing beverages make this the perfect atmosphere to take in the sights and sounds of the fair. The Wisconsin State Fair runs from Thursday, July 31st through Sunday, August 10th. Learn more about Lakefront Brewery by following them on social media or visiting them at lakefrontbrewery.com. Starting this weekend, Lakefront Brewery welcomes some of the best local musicians for stripped-down performances on their perfectly-suited patio space.

Current Sounds

It’s been 3 years since Lakefront completed work on their award-winning patio renovation and they’re excited to continue to find ways to celebrate it. Current Sounds is a brand new music series that will feature unique performances from musical artists ready to pull back the curtain and provide a special experience for Lakefront’s patio guests.

“There is a wide variety of eclectic musicians that we’re lucky to have”, says Sean Anderson, local musician and Lakefront Brewery tour guide who handles all music booking for the brewery. “It was fun to offer such a serene and special spot for the artists to get creative and in some cases, push the boundaries of the shows they’re used to playing”.

Current Sounds is free to attend and will occur every Saturday from 2pm to 4pm starting this Saturday May 24th through August 30th, with two special Sunday performances: this weekend ahead of Memorial Day, and Labor Day weekend. Friday performances will be from 3pm to 5pm and begin on June 13th. All Friday performances are a part of It’s Alive presented by the Milwaukee Theater District.

Grab some award-winning beer, a basket of their famous cheese curds, relax along the river, and take in the Current Sounds.

LAKEFRONT BREWERY’S RIVERWEST STEIN GOES RETRO, READY TO PARTY LIKE IT’S 1987 https://thebeerthrillers.com/2025/05/20/lakefront-brewerys-riverwest-stein-goes-retro-ready-to-party-like-its-1987/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=lakefront-brewerys-riverwest-stein-goes-retro-ready-to-party-like-its-1987 Tue, 20 May 2025 04:13:06 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=16390 LAKEFRONT BREWERY’S RIVERWEST STEIN GOES RETRO, READY TO PARTY LIKE IT’S 1987

Lakefront’s flagship brew has been around for almost 38 years and has become a defining product for Milwaukee. As an ode to its resilience, Lakefront has produced a limited run of retro 12-packs featuring the original 1987 artwork.

Retro Stein Pitcher

Celebrate the legacy of Riverwest Stein with Lakefront’s one-time-only throwback 12-pack!  Lakefront Brewery co-founders Russ and Jim Klisch delivered the first keg of Riverwest Stein Amber Lager to the Gordon Park Pub on Weil Street for its official release on December 2nd, 1987. Now called Nessun Dorma, the brothers still celebrate annually at the Riverwest staple for the brewery’s anniversary.

Before the Gordon Park Pub beer release, Jim had taken a photo of Clarke Street looking east with St. Casimir Church in the background to produce table tents for the event. “A quintessential street view of Riverwest”, as Jim puts it, “I think a local artist who went by the name ‘Peggy Riverwest’ converted it into a line drawing which we used at its grand unveiling.”

“It wasn’t until 1990 that I built a one-headed filler so we could start to bottle”, said his brother Russ, Owner and President of Lakefront Brewery, “we had a family friend named Linda Goehre who used the design to create our 16 oz. bottle labels which is more or less what you’ll see on these cans”.

Lakefront is excited to offer this fun tribute to Milwaukee’s favorite craft beer in hopes that it will allow people to feel young again or just look really cool with one in hand. Longtime craft beer advocate Randy Mosher ended up redesigning the Stein label when it moved to 12 oz. bottles. More recently, it was reimagined by Lakefront’s late Brand Manager, Michael Stodola.

“I think back to when I first heard of arguments at bars about our Riverwest Stein being the best beer in town, that’s when I started to realize that we might have something special here,” says Owner Russ Klisch.

Grab a 12-pack of Retro Stein in the same spot you normally get your Riverwest Stein fix. Available one time only, while supplies last!

LAKEFRONT BREWERY ANNOUNCES EXPANDED OFF-SITE FOOD OFFERING, CURDS À LA CARTE https://thebeerthrillers.com/2025/05/06/lakefront-brewery-announces-expanded-off-site-food-offering-curds-a-la-carte/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=lakefront-brewery-announces-expanded-off-site-food-offering-curds-a-la-carte Wed, 07 May 2025 03:22:15 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=16383 LAKEFRONT BREWERY ANNOUNCES EXPANDED OFF-SITE FOOD OFFERING, CURDS À LA CARTE

Lakefront Brewery revamps a retired hot dog cart to add Curds à la Carte to their mobile food fleet, providing access to their famous award-winning fried cheese curds for private events.

Curds a la Carte

Lakefront is excited to announce the launch of their Curds à la Carte for off-site private events. You may have seen Lakefront’s CurdWagon food truck servicing patio guests all summer long at Lakefront Brewery. Due to demand at the brewery itself, the CurdWagon is rarely found in the wild. As requests for it continue to come in, Lakefront’s Executive Chef, Kristin Hueneke, remembered a hot dog cart from days gone by.

Curds a la Carte Appetizers

“Back in 2018, we had outgrown the hot dog cart and replaced it with the CurdWagon”, says Hueneke, “the cart has been collecting dust in storage since then, so after a deep clean and a stylish refurbishing, we’ve got it ready for a grand homecoming. It’s exciting for us to be able to provide an affordable and unique catering experience to the local area”, added Hueneke.

LAKEFRONT BREWERY ANNOUNCES DATE FOR 4TH ANNUAL GLUTEN-FREE MAIFEST, EMBRACING A FOCUS ON GLUTEN-FREE FOOD https://thebeerthrillers.com/2025/04/22/lakefront-brewery-announces-date-for-4th-annual-gluten-free-maifest-embracing-a-focus-on-gluten-free-food/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=lakefront-brewery-announces-date-for-4th-annual-gluten-free-maifest-embracing-a-focus-on-gluten-free-food Wed, 23 Apr 2025 02:10:36 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=16399 LAKEFRONT BREWERY ANNOUNCES DATE FOR 4TH ANNUAL GLUTEN-FREE MAIFEST, EMBRACING A FOCUS ON GLUTEN-FREE FOOD

The brewery that brought the country its first Certified Gluten-Free beer, New Grist, brings forth the Midwest’s largest gluten-free food festival, Maifest, now in its 4th year.

Lakefront Brewery’s Maifest 2025

In 2005, Lakefront Brewery brewed New Grist Pilsner, the nation’s first Certified Gluten-Free beer. What started out as an accommodation for local celiacs, has grown to supply over half the country with gluten-free beer options. Over the years, Lakefront began to understand how underserved the regional gluten-free community was. Their first Maifest was an instant success, since then, they’ve released an IPA version of their New Grist and converted their CurdWagon food truck to be exclusively gluten-free. Now in its 4th year, Lakefront is focusing their Maifest efforts to celebrate gluten-free food offerings.

Lakefront’s Maifest

On Sunday, May 18th, from 11am to 3pm, Lakefront invites everyone, gluten intolerant or not, to come down to their premiere springtime outdoor festival and embrace the incoming warm weather. Over 30 vendors will be featuring all gluten-free food items, and these 9 delicious food trucks will be serving exclusively gluten-free menus:

Ø  Lakefront’s CurdWagon (including the gluten-free version of their famous fried cheese curds)
Ø  Big City BBQ
Ø  Clean Cruisine
Ø  EZ Tiki
Ø  Fork N Fry Poutinerie
Ø  Girl’s Got Balls
Ø  Pedro’s South American
Ø  Tots on the Street
Ø  Troublemakers Cocina

Lakefront is adding a Cheese Curd Express Lane to get their gluten-free curds into as many hands as possible!

The Maifest

As one should expect, Lakefront will be serving up all their gluten-free New Grist varieties on top of the popular gluten-free cask beers made specially for this event:

Ø  Mango Chile Gosa Rita
Ø  Honey Saffron New Grist IPA
Ø  Arnold Palmer New Grist
Ø  Mimosa New Grist

Guests can also enjoy gluten-free Bloody Marys, wine, soda, and limited gluten and NA beer options. All beverages containing gluten will be served separately, in their Beer Hut.

Lakefront Brewery’s Maifest

Maifest will also be supporting Gluten Intolerance Group (with Cutting Costs for Celiacs) and the Celiac Disease Center at Children’s Wisconsin with a 50/50 raffle. Saunter through Milwaukee’s longest patio, take in the breathtaking views, and enjoy live music from Shotski Polka as you sip and nosh on the area’s best gluten-free goodies. Maifest is a family-friendly, free, rain or shine event and welcomes well-behaved pups to attend if they’re interested.
