  11. Second Sin Brewing – Bristol, PA – 4.09 Rating (Tied)

Positions 8 – 11 are tied for 8th.

How it Works

Untappd uses a weighted ratings system. They average the number of check ins and the average rating of each of the beers rated for the breweries. Non – rated beers act as a nothing (not a zero nor a five). You can read more about Untappd’s weighted rating system here – Untappd weighted rating system.

Breweries on the Outside Looking In

There are five breweries that just missed the cut, that are nearly on that Top 10 (or in the case of this year due to the ties – Top 11) list, and they are:

  • Mechanistic Brewing – Clarion, PA – 4.07 Rating
  • Aslin Beer Company – Pittsburgh, PA – 4.07 Rating
  • Fourscore Beer Company – Gettysburgh, PA – 4.06 Rating
  • Abjuration Brewing – Pittsburgh, PA – 4.05 Rating
  • Human Robot Beer – Philadelphia, PA – 4.05 Rating

There are so many good breweries in Pennsylvania, that its crazy to even dwindle the list down to 10, 11, 15 or 16 as we did here today.

Breweries in Pennsylvania – Top 10 (as per Perplexity)

The Top 10 Breweries in Pennsylvania

This is a generated list using Perplexity AI. It is based off of an aggregate of values – mostly rating system based sites like Untappd, Yelp, TripAdvisor, Beer Advocate, and Rate My Beer. It also factors into play certain key blogs – VinePair, our website (The Beer Thrillers), BiPA, and more.

Since its middle of December, I thought it’d be a good time to take a look back at the best breweries of 2023. This list is just breweries in PA, and just for statistical purposes the year of 2023. It was ran through Perplexity AI and put in a few different times to make sure the list was accurate and not just a sequence of things, it was told to use user ratings and check in apps, and it was told to just include 2023 and just to include Breweries in PA. It was also done several times with the same parameters to ensure that the AI was selecting the same breweries and not just throwing out random breweries. The AI also provided its sources.

Top 10 Breweries in Pennsylvania for 2023

The top 10 breweries in Pennsylvania in 2023, according to various sources, are as follows:

  1. Other Half Brewing
  2. The Referend Bier Blendery
  3. Imprint Beer Co
  4. Fermentery Form
  5. Hidden River Brewing
  6. Antifragile Brewing
  7. D.G. Yuengling and Son Brewery
  8. Troegs Brewing Company
  9. Yards Brewing Company
  10. Lancaster Brewing

Additionally, the highest-rated beer in Pennsylvania in 2023 is “Le Roar Grrrz” from Bullfrog Brewery, according to VinePair. These rankings are based on various factors such as user ratings, reviews, and check-ins on platforms like Untappd and Yelp.

Untappd is the most heavily used source and rated source for lists like this. Tomorrow we will be posting the Top 10 Breweries of PA via Untappd, up to and including December 9th. (Statistics were compiled at 11:59:59 PM EST last night.)

Stay tuned for that article tomorrow.

Check out the breweries’ social media pages for more information.

Black Friday 2023

So this Black Friday, instead of running around chasing the newest Bourbon County Releases and buying up all that AB InBev, why not hit up some of your local craft breweries doing big releases or beer events for Black Friday. Theres so many good stouts (and porters, and schwarzbiers, and other dark beers) to be had just in your own backyard in Pennsylvania. Here alone by us in Central PA we have a lot of great choices for dark beers – from YAH Brew, Moo – Duck Brewery, Troegs Independent Brewing, Boneshire Brew Works, etc, etc, etc, etc.

Map of Hops and Vines for Hunger 2023 Participating Breweries, Wineries, and More https://thebeerthrillers.com/2023/10/31/map-of-hops-and-vines-for-hunger-2023-participating-breweries-wineries-and-more/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=map-of-hops-and-vines-for-hunger-2023-participating-breweries-wineries-and-more Wed, 01 Nov 2023 00:05:00 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=12817 Hops and Vines for Hunger

The campaign aims to:

  • Raise funds to maximize the work of Feeding Pennsylvania’s nine member food banks and serve Pennsylvanians facing hunger
  • Support the development of nutrition education resources created by PA Eats to educate food-insecure Pennsylvanians on how to prepare simple, accessible meals with affordable, healthy ingredients commonly found in food pantries
  • Promote the support of local breweries and wineries across the Commonwealth

This is a month long fundraiser in November and they have been doing it yearly now for a few years.

For many of the breweries involved – they have their own individual events; some are daily, some are weekly, some last the entire month. Troegs Independent Brewing is kicking theirs off tomorrow – November 1st – from 11:30 AM (Opening) to 9:00 PM (Closing).

You can read more about the Hops and Vines for Hunger Campaign here:

For more information check out the Hops and Vines for Hunger 2023 Campaign segment right after the map. But first, let’s take a look at the map of all of the participating breweries, wineries, cideries, and coffee houses.

Map of Hops and Vines for Hunger 2023 Participating Breweries, Wineries, and More

Key

  • The Beer Mug represents a Brewery
  • The Glass represents a Winery
  • The Cider Flute (white symbol) represents a Cidery
  • The Coffee Mug represents a Coffee House

There is 1 coffee house, 1 cidery, 34 breweries, and 4 wineries represented through their various locations on the above map.

List of Events

I will be posting a list of events tomorrow – November 1st 2023 – to coincide with this map and to help keep everyone updated on what events they can attend to help raise money for the campaign.

The Hops and Vines for Hunger 2023 Campaign

The following comes from their campaign (Our Programs) page:

Pennsylvania boasts over 800 breweries and wineries combined across the state — and that number is growing. But just as these numbers are increasing, so are the number of food insecure families and individuals across Pennsylvania. In fact, nearly 2 million Pennsylvanians struggle with hunger every day – including nearly 500,000 children.

That’s why Feeding Pennsylvania, PA Eats, and Breweries in PA are joining forces with local breweries and wineries across the state through Hops & Vines for Hunger — a month-long, statewide fundraiser throughout November. The campaign will aim to:

  • Raise funds to maximize the work of Feeding Pennsylvania’s 9 member food banks and serve Pennsylvanians facing hunger;
  • Support the development of nutrition education resources created by PA Eats to educate food-insecure Pennsylvanians on how to prepare simple, accessible meals with affordable, healthy ingredients commonly found in food pantries;
  • Promote the support of local breweries and wineries across the Commonwealth.

Thank You For Helping

Its Hot Out There – Time For a Beer

Its hot out there – and today has been no exception – here at The Beer Thrillers HQ its 95 degrees with a real feel of 100 – 102 degrees (Fahrenheit). So whats the best way to cool off? Grabbing a delicious, refreshing beer from one of our favorite breweries here in Pennsylvania of course!

So with it being the hot summer months – the dog days of summer as some would call it – I decided to come up with a list of some of the best Pennsylvania breweries with some refreshing summer offerings.

Summer is here, and that means it’s time to enjoy some great craft beers. Pennsylvania is home to some of the best breweries in the country, and many of them brew a variety of summer beers that are perfect for enjoying on a hot day.

In this article, we will take a look at some of the best Pennsylvania breweries for summer beers. We will discuss the different types of summer beers that are available, and we will recommend some of the best beers from each brewery.

Types of Summer Beers

There are many different types of summer beers available, but some of the most popular include:

Pale Ale

Pale ales are a great choice for summer because they are light and refreshing. They are typically brewed with a variety of hops, which gives them a citrusy or fruity flavor.

IPAs

IPAs are another popular choice for summer. They are hoppier than pale ales, but they are still light enough to enjoy on a hot day. IPAs come in a variety of styles, so there is sure to be one that you will enjoy.

Sours

Sour beers are becoming increasingly popular, and they are a great choice for summer. They are tart and refreshing, and they can be made with a variety of fruits.

Session Beers

Session beers are lower in alcohol content than other types of beer, making them a great choice for those who want to enjoy a few beers without getting too tipsy. Session beers come in a variety of styles, so there is sure to be one that you will enjoy.

Kolches, Hefeweizens, Witbiers, etc.

Some of these can easily fall under the Session Beer label. Many Kolsches, Hefes, Wits, and Light Beers (Pilsners, Lagers – think your craft beer alternatives to Bud Lite, Coors Light, Miller Lite, etc.); they usually have lower ABV, are more refreshing, and have more softer ingredients, with some even containing fruit or being more sweet too.

A Series of Craft Beer Articles

This is just one of several in a series of over arching ‘craft beer’ related articles. Several alone in a ‘flagship’ series. In the next few weeks there will be some more that come out as well. I would like to have this general level of different ‘craft beer articles’ that everyone can kind of jump to and read and use for informative purposes, and give a better understanding for the other articles on the site.

Some of these articles are about definitions (like “What is Craft Beer?“) and others are about Craft Breweries in general like the Top 50 Producing Craft Breweries, etc.

Whether you’re a local seeking a new favorite spot or a craft beer enthusiast planning a beer pilgrimage, these establishments offer an unforgettable taste of Pennsylvania’s brewing excellence. Raise your glass to the Keystone State, where every sip tells a story of rich brewing traditions and the continual evolution of craft beer.

Pennsylvania at the start of 2023 boasted 500+ breweries. The above fifteen are just an example of the great craft breweries in the state. There are so many more to visit and try out from all corners of the state. Breweries like YAH Brew, Appalachian Brewing Company, Strange Roots Experimental Ales, Moo – Duck Brewery, Otto’s Pub and Brewery, Human Robot, Gunpowder Falls Brewing, and so many more. Be sure to cross the state and get to experience all of these great breweries. See our maps for more ideas on breweries to visit! Cheers!

We are working on a massive project here at The Beer Thrillers. We are creating a map of all of the breweries across the United States. State by state we are adding maps of all of the different states with every brewery in each state. (We will eventually get to the US Territories, as well as the Canadian Provinces, and possibly more countries; as well as doing some fun maps like a map of all the breweries we’ve been to, and other fun maps.) You can find the brewery maps here:

We are also working on a project of creating printable and downloadable PDFs and resources to be able to check and keep track of all of the breweries you’ve been to. So stay tuned for that project once we are finished with the Brewery Maps of the US States.
