LAKEFRONT BREWERY UNVEILS THEIR 2024 LINEUP OF BLACK FRIDAY BEERS FOR YEAR 14

Black Friday is a big day for beer, the local brewery looks forward to continuing their tradition of hosting one of the biggest Milwaukee beer events of the year.

It’s not too long after Thanksgiving dinner that beer fans will begin to line up at the Milwaukee staple on Commerce Street. Their doors will open at 8AM the next day to a line of hundreds of excited and thirsty Black Friday guests.
“We have created three barrel-aged beers that have been aging all year and a triple IPA that are all world class and that are only available on Black Friday”, says Russ Klisch, President and Co-Founder of Lakefront Brewery, “Besides the great beer, I always look forward to spending time with folks out in line where there’s an unmatched level of excitement.”

Lakefront offers up the following 4 varieties of their rare Black Friday beer to take home:

  • 2024 Black Friday™ Imperial Stout | Aged in Bourbon and Brandy barrels, the 2024 version of our gold standard brew combines massive caramel and roasted malts with huge vanilla and oak flavor. Sold for $20 each plus tax.
  • 2024 Black Friday™ Triple Black IPA | Big, bold, and hoppy, this Triple Black IPA hits the glass obsidian black with a foamy tan head kicking up aromas of chocolate, orange zest, and rose water. Gratuitous Cascade, Chinook, and Centennial hops yield up-front citrus and tropical fruit notes, while Belgian caramel malts lend balance and sweet cocoa and caramel flavors. Sold for $20 each plus tax.
  • 2024 Black Friday™ Imperial Brown Ale Aged in Wollersheim Winery Port Barrels | A big, hearty Imperial Brown Ale aged in Port wine barrels from Wisconsin’s own Wollersheim Winery. Brought together, flavors of brown bread crusts and caramel malt roll into port notes of oak plank, vanilla, dried fruit, and marzipan. Sold for $30 each plus tax.
  • 2024 Black Friday™ 5-Year-Old | This big stout has been asleep in Bourbon barrels since 2019. The big, roasty, chocolatey Imperial Stout left all traces of alcohol heat behind in the barrel and picked up flavors of vanilla, pecan praline, marzipan, and a touch of pipe tobacco. Sold for $30 each plus tax.

All varieties will be packaged in colorful 19.2 oz. cans and placed in dynamic individual boxes with no limit to the amount that an individual can purchase. Lakefront notes that the yield of 2024 Black Friday beers will be shorter than in recent years as only 2,000 cans of the regular version and only 1,000 of each varietal will be available. Show up early this year to enjoy breakfast items (and cheese curds) from their famous CurdWagon starting at 5AM. Our gift shop inside will open early with exclusive Black Friday items and other warm weather garb if your preparations weren’t up to snuff.

A collectible Black Friday souvenir-dated glass will be free for those who purchase a minimum of 4 Black Fridaycans.

Lakefront is excited to announce the return of the Warm Hearts Community Coat Drive benefiting students of George Washington Carver Elementary. Guests who donate a laundered, gently used coat suitable for youth ages 3 to 14 years will receive one bottle/can of a prior year’s Black Friday™. Guests may donate additional coats with a maximum of 2 bottles/cans per donor over 21. Coats will be accepted conditionally at Lakefront Brewery’s discretion to ensure immediate wearability. They also encourage donors to bring colorful, youth-appropriate items, especially coats for girls and young teen women, giving students the dignity of choice.

The Riverwest Brewing Syndicate (Lakefront Brewery, Black Husky Brewing, Gathering Place Brewery, Amorphic Beer) recently announced the return of their Black Friday shuttle bus. Starting at Lakefront, the shuttle will make continuous round trips to all four breweries from 10AM to 3PM. As always, Lakefront encourages everyone to make safe, responsible choices when it comes to these events.

Troegs Brewing is Bringing Back a Fan Favorite – Java Head Stout https://thebeerthrillers.com/2024/09/22/troegs-brewing-is-bringing-back-a-fan-favorite-java-head-stout/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=troegs-brewing-is-bringing-back-a-fan-favorite-java-head-stout Sun, 22 Sep 2024 14:10:48 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=15647

Java Head Stout by Troegs Brewing (original logo)

Troegs Brewing is Bringing Back a Fan Favorite – Java Head Stout

A fan favorite is coming back to Troegs Independent Brewing – Java Head Stout! Originally replaced by Grand Cacao back in 2020 as the stout on record at Troegs. One of the most frequent questions at the Troegs General Store has been “when is Java Head coming back” and its safe to say — soon!

No official date on the release or when it will be coming back exactly, but there is details to discuss as it is currently fermenting. First, it will most likely be back end of October / beginning of November, and it will be in 16 oz pounder cans rather than the previous bottles. (Like most beers at Troegs Brewery, they have shifted from being produced in bottles to that of cans.) It will also most likely be a temporary or a once and done release, and not become a seasonal or flagship release, and it will also most likely be a brewery exclusive or near brewery exclusive (perhaps a few local distributors like West Connection Beer Vault and Breski’s Beverages getting it as well).

Java Head Stout

From the original entry at Troegs Brewing’s website:

JavaHead is like a day at Tröegs; it’s hard to tell where the coffee ends and the beer begins. This creamy oatmeal stout is infused with locally roasted, cold steeped coffee to release subtle hints of cocoa, roasted nuts and dark mocha.

Java Head Stout – Troegs Website

Its safe to assume that the beer will be nearly identical to the original brew, but might not be 100% the exact same recipe. However, the original was a 7.5% ABV and had 60 IBUs, and used Chocolate, Crystal, Oats, Pilsner, Roast malts and Cascade, Chinook, Cluster hops.

We will release more information when we have a date and when it will be coming out! So be sure to check back soon!

A new limited edition can of the Conservative Dad’s Beer has been announced

Ultra Right Beer: Conservative Dad’s Limited Edition Can – A Beer with a Message

Ultra Right Beer has launched its limited edition “Conservative Dad’s Fight American Beer,” a six-pack that merges craft beer with a cultural statement. The can design, emblazoned with patriotic imagery, aligns with the brand’s commitment to challenging mainstream narratives in the beer industry.

Crafted as a traditional American lager, this beer invites supporters of its ethos to enjoy a drink that resonates beyond taste. For those curious about its flavor and philosophy, explore further on Ultra Right’s official site.

Ultra Right Beer’s limited edition “Conservative Dad’s Fight American Beer” isn’t just a beverage; it’s a cultural statement. The beer positions itself as an alternative to mainstream brands, aligning with conservative values and a pro-American ethos. The design of the cans, featuring patriotic imagery, reinforces its mission to resonate with its target audience.

The brand’s website emphasizes its goal of creating “100% Woke-Free American Beer” as a rallying point for those who feel underrepresented in the market. The beer itself is described as a straightforward American lager, providing a familiar and accessible flavor profile for casual drinkers and enthusiasts alike.

Beyond its taste, the beer serves as a rallying cry for cultural independence. Ultra Right Beer’s founder stated, “It’s more than a drink, it’s a movement.” The limited-edition release has drawn both supporters and critics, sparking broader discussions about how brands intersect with cultural identity.

Craft beer is often associated with innovation and individuality, and this product underscores how breweries can leverage personal values and political stances to attract a specific audience. While some might see this beer as a polarizing choice, it’s clear that Ultra Right Beer is carving its niche in the craft beer world with a unique marketing approach.

Comparisons to Politically-Influenced Beer Brands

Ultra Right’s approach recalls other beers that made cultural or political statements. Brands like BrewDog have used activism in their marketing, such as their “Make Earth Great Again” beer promoting environmentalism. Meanwhile, Anheuser-Busch faced backlash for their own political involvement earlier in 2024. These examples reveal how beer is more than a product; it can become a platform for discussion, advocacy, or controversy.

Craft beer has long been about individuality, and Ultra Right Beer demonstrates that ethos by addressing an underserved audience. Whether loved or critiqued, the limited-edition six-pack is part of a growing trend of brands engaging consumers on cultural and ideological levels.

Consumer Perceptions of Political Branding in Beer

The concept of politically-branded beer has seen a range of reactions. Supporters appreciate brands like Ultra Right Beer for representing their values in a market they feel often leans in the opposite direction. As one supporter of Ultra Right Beer noted, “It’s refreshing to see a product align with what I believe.”

However, political branding also invites scrutiny. Critics argue that tying beer to ideologies risks alienating potential customers. For example, brands such as Anheuser-Busch experienced both backlash and boycotts earlier this year when consumers felt their campaigns clashed with their beliefs.

Surveys on the topic reveal a split: while some consumers actively seek brands that resonate with their personal values, others prefer their beer—and their drinking experience—free from politics. The conversation highlights how deeply cultural and social influences affect purchasing decisions, especially in the craft beer world, which has traditionally celebrated diversity and innovation.

Nimble Giant Returns Monday June 10th, 2024

As you might have seen from our Instagram account Nimble Giant will be making its awaited return on Monday, June 10th, 2024. This yearly beer by Troegs Independent Brewing is one of their most sought after and beloved beers of the year (alongside Nugget Nectar and Mad Elf). This is a bold, beautiful, strong, delicious DIPA (Double IPA), clocking in at 9.0% and knocking your socks off with how smooth, easy drinking, and wonderful it is. You can easily plow through an entire case without noticing (as Drew of Knights of Nostalgia and I can attest from Wednesday night). (You can see us drinking our Nimble Giant case during our Acolyte episode reviews – found here: Consuming Brews and Media – The Acolyte Episode 1 Review).  (And definitely check out this YouTube short and reel of YORD nonsense.)

Tröegs Independent Brewing is set to release its fan-favorite double IPA, Nimble Giant on Monday (June 10th, 2024). One of the independent brewery’s most beloved beers, Nimble Giant is a limited annual release that rivals the excitement generated by its iconic holiday ale, Mad Elf.

Nimble Giant began as part of Tröegs’ small-batch Scratch Series, originally experimenting with Mosaic hops. After half a dozen test batches, the Tröegs brewing team discovered a perfect hop combination: Mosaic, Simcoe, and Azacca.

“We loved our earliest trials with Mosaic,” says John Trogner, Tröegs co-founder and brewmaster. “When we started dry-hopping with Mosaic and Simcoe together, we knew we had something special. Fans would stop me on the street and rave about the Scratch batches.”

With an ABV of 9%, Nimble Giant features notes of tropical fruit, pine sap, and honeysuckle. Backed by pilsner and Vienna malts, this deep orange-hued double IPA achieves a perfect balance between malt and hops.

Nimble Giant scores an ‘Outstanding’ on BeerAdvocate and consistently ranks in the top ten trending beers on Untappd upon its release.

Nimble Giant is available on draft and in 16-oz. cans across the brewery’s entire distribution footprint. Also look for it on draft at the Troegs Brewery, as well as in select restaurants, pubs, and other locations. You can also order sixtels from the General Store at Troegs Brewery.

Beer drinkers can find Nimble Giant and other Tröegs beers near them using the Tröegs Brew Finder.

Nimble Giant cracked open and ready to be enjoyed while we record our Acolyte Episode reviews.

4 Great American Craft Beer Variety Packs For Memorial Day https://thebeerthrillers.com/2024/05/27/4-great-american-craft-beer-variety-packs-for-memorial-day/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=4-great-american-craft-beer-variety-packs-for-memorial-day Mon, 27 May 2024 12:47:09 +0000 https://thebeerthrillers.com/?p=15061

Memorial Day

Memorial Day is a special occasion when America pauses to honor the brave men and women who have sacrificed their lives in service to our Armed Forces.

It also signifies the unofficial beginning of summer, a season for cookouts and gatherings with friends and family over food and drinks. To make these celebrations even better, you’re going to need beer. Here are some fantastic new craft beer variety packs that are making buying in bulk exciting again!

Variety Packs

Perfect for Memorial Day picnics, get togethers, and grilling hamburgers and hotdogs on the grill – variety packs are a perfect pick-up item to grab at your local brewery (or grocery store or beverage distributor) and bring to that shindig.

Craft beer variety packs have become increasingly popular among beer enthusiasts and casual drinkers alike. These packs offer a selection of different beers from a single brewery, providing an excellent way to explore a range of flavors and styles without committing to a full six-pack of one type. For newcomers to the craft beer scene, variety packs serve as a gateway to discovering personal preferences, whether it be hoppy IPAs, rich stouts, or refreshing pilsners. This diversity within a single purchase can turn any beer tasting into a mini-adventure, perfect for gatherings and parties.

Beyond the sheer enjoyment of diverse flavors, craft beer variety packs also showcase the creativity and skill of the brewers. Many breweries use these packs to highlight seasonal or limited-edition brews alongside their core offerings. This not only gives drinkers a chance to taste unique and experimental beers but also helps breweries gain feedback on new recipes. The inclusion of special and sometimes exclusive beers in these packs can drive excitement and anticipation among craft beer fans, making the act of unboxing and sampling each beer a thrilling experience.

Additionally, craft beer variety packs are an economical choice for those looking to stock up for events or simply fill their fridge. Buying in bulk often comes with cost savings compared to purchasing individual packs of different beers. Moreover, these packs are convenient, offering an all-in-one solution for catering to diverse tastes within a group. Whether for a casual barbecue, a festive celebration, or a quiet night of beer tasting, craft beer variety packs provide a versatile and appealing option that enhances the enjoyment of high-quality, artisanal beers.

Summer of Sunshine

Troegs Brewing Summer of Sunshine Variety Pack

Hershey, Pennsylvania-based Tröegs Independent Brewing is embracing summer with a new variety 15-pack that includes a beloved year-round classic and four exclusive beers available only in the Summer of Sunshine Variety 15-Pack.

Here’s how the brewery describes the contents:

  • Sunshine Pilsner (4.5% ABV) – This award-winning American craft pilsner features a complex balance of two-row barley, zesty Saaz hops, and lager yeast. Secondary fermentation creates natural carbonation, delivering soft notes of fresh-cut straw and flowering herbs.
  • Sunshine Salt + Lime Lager (4.3% ABV) – This bright and crisp lager offers a zesty hint of lime and a touch of salt, perfect for transporting you to the shore. Exclusive to the Summer of Sunshine Variety Pack, it’s the ideal beach beer.
  • Summer’s Here Lager (4.2% ABV) – Made with pilsner malt and flaked rice, this exclusive lager employs krausening for a crisp finish and subtle fruity esters. Dry-hopped with Citra and Saaz, it showcases notes of bright citrus, lemon rind, and flowering herbs in a pale white-gold brew.
  • Leisure Cruise Raspberry Wheat (4.7% ABV) – This Raspberry Wheat Ale is a classic lighter-bodied beer with big flavor. Real raspberries added after fermentation ensure bright pops of fruit are front and center.
  • Perpetual Haze (7.5% ABV) – Combining the clean, crisp bitterness of a West Coast IPA with the softness of a hazy, this beer features pale malts for underlying complexity. Raw wheat, London 3 yeast, and vigorous dry-hopping create a haze that cradles a citrusy hop blend, with Citra and Cashmere unlocking juicy notes of orange, passionfruit, and nectarine.

Perpetual Exploration Variety Pack Volume 2

Perpetual Exploration Volume 2

If IPAs are your thing, the Tröegs Perpetual Exploration Variety Pack Volume 2 offers a fantastic selection of the brewery’s finest India Pale Ales, including:

  • Tröegs Perpetual IPA (7.5% ABV) – This Imperial Pale Ale is perpetually cycled using the brewery’s HopBack vessel and dry-hopping technology, creating a robust beer that can withstand the season’s cooling temperatures.
  • Tröegs Graffiti Highway (6% ABV) – This India Pale Ale features bright citrus and tropical fruit notes. Like many of Tröegs’ beers, this IPA began as a series of test batches in the brewery’s Research & Development brewhouse, known as the Scratch Lab.
  • Tröegs Field Study (6.2% ABV) – A slightly hazy IPA with vibrant grapefruit, mango, pear, and melon notes, it evolved from the brewery’s small-batch, experimental Scratch Series.
  • Tröegs LolliHop (8.2% ABV) – This Imperial IPA boasts a slightly hazy character with bright notes of pear, citrus, and a hint of melon, built on a sturdy foundation of Pennsylvania-grown Rustic pale malt.

Some of the Troegs best summer time IPAs all in one package. Perfect for the unofficial kick off to the summer. Troegs Brewing is open Memorial Day – 11:30 AM to 9:00 PM.

Dogfish Head Off Centered Variety Pack

Dogfish Head Off Centered Variety Pack

Milton, Delaware-based Dogfish Head’s Variety Pack features two fan-favorites, 60 Minute IPA and Slightly Mighty, along with the new Tasty Traveler Lager, and the Delaware-centric Blue Hen Pilsner, a beer developed at its small-batch brewpub in Rehoboth.

  • 60 Minute IPA (6.0% ABV) – This IPA is continually hopped for 60 minutes with a boatload of intense Northwest hops. The result is a brew that is abundantly hoppy without being overly bitter, showcasing bold citrusy and grassy hop flavors.
  • Slightly Mighty (4.9% ABV) – The top-selling lo-cal IPA in America, Slightly Mighty is a full-flavored IPA with just 95 calories per can. Brewed with a hint of monk fruit for added body and complexity, it delivers tropical notes of pineapple, coconut, mango, and citrus while being light in calories and carbohydrates.
  • Tasty Traveler Lager (5% ABV) – Making its debut, Tasty Traveler is a crisp, refreshing lager brewed with Oaxacan green corn, Baja Salicornia, sea salt, and Mexican lime juice, offering a unique and invigorating flavor profile.
  • Blue Hen Pilsner (4.8% ABV) – This crisp and refreshing pilsner is brewed with just four ingredients: water, yeast, earthy Saaz hops, and Delaware-grown and malted barley. The label pays homage to Dogfish Head’s home state, featuring the Delaware state bird and colors reminiscent of the Delaware state flag.

Widmer Brothers Hefe Variety Pack

Widmer Brothers Hefe Variety Pack

Portland, Oregon-based Widmer Brothers Brewing is celebrating Memorial Day Weekend with a new variety 12-pack that highlights their renowned American Wheat Beer style. The Widmer Brothers’ Hefe Variety Pack includes their flagship Hefeweizen along with several unique wheat ale variations.

Here’s what’s inside:

  • Hefe (4.9% ABV) – First brewed in 1986, Hefe was a groundbreaking creation for the Widmer Brothers. With its floral citrus notes, naturally cloudy body, and refreshing finish, Hefe was unlike anything they had ever tasted. This golden, cloudy brew became an international staple of craft brewing, known as America’s Original Hefeweizen.
  • Imperial Hefe (8.0% ABV) – A bolder version of the original American Hefeweizen, Imperial Hefe features a high ABV of 8.0% and prominent tropical hop notes. This beer exemplifies balance, offering a bold wheat flavor while remaining smooth, delicious, and elegant.
  • Widberry Hefe (4.9% ABV) – Infused with the sweet and juicy flavors of blackberries, Widberry Hefe combines these luscious berries with their signature wheat beer, capturing the essence of summer in a can. Refreshingly smooth and fruity, it offers a unique drinking experience.
  • Apricot Hefe (4.9% ABV) – Originally introduced as Velvet Summer, the brewery’s summer seasonal in 2023, this fan-favorite is now available year-round in the variety pack. Brewed with sun-kissed apricots, Apricot Hefe delivers a refreshingly fruity, bright, and juicy flavor profile perfect for any season.

Purchasing

Each of the variety packs can be bought at their respective breweries (Troegs Brewing in Hershey, PA; Dogfish Head Craft Brewery in Milton, Delaware and Rehobeth Beach, Delaware; and Widmer Brothers in Portland, Oregon). As well as the Dogfish Head and Troegs Brewing variety packs are in their full distribution footprints (look for it in Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Maryland, Washington DC, and surrounding areas). The Widmer Brothers Variety Pack is located throughout their distribution footprint in the upper Northwest Corner of the United States. As well as in select stores throughout the country.

Partake Brewing Releases Pickleball Pils

Partake Brewing, an award-winning category leader in the non-alcoholic beer space and a B Corp-certified company, has released a new limited-edition, Pickleball Pils brew in collaboration with the Association of Pickleball Players (APP) Tour. Like the Pilsner, Partake’s new brew style recently launched in March, Pickleball Pils has only 25 calories, the fewest on the market, and is a golden brew bursting with crispy hop tang. The brew’s popularity inspired the limited-edition can design developed in collaboration with the APP Tour to celebrate the fastest growing sport in America.

“I’ve always been a beer lover and so I set the bar extremely high, non-alcoholic beers included! Partake goes well beyond that with their amazing selection of great-tasting NA beers and I don’t have to compromise on my health and fitness. I can celebrate wins in a big way and get right back on the court without missing a beat.” stated Nick Slater, professional pickleball player and former pro tennis player.

Ted Fleming, the founder of Partake Brewing, stated, “Non-alcoholic options are becoming more popular as part of the ‘better for you’ lifestyle, indicating a move towards healthier living choices, including activities like pickleball. We are excited to champion, support, and create opportunities for those adopting this and our new partnership with the APP. Pickleball Pils is a prime example of how Partake brings this vision into reality.”

Partake is the official non-alcoholic beer for the 2024 Association of Pickleball Players (APP) Tour, seamlessly blending the brewery’s acclaimed range of low-calorie, non-alcoholic beverages with the popularity of pickleball. The partnership is marked by the introduction of a novel community initiative known as the Partake Community Hero Award. At each 2024 APP Tour stop, this award will honor individuals who have made noteworthy personal contributions to their local pickleball communities.

“We’re very pleased to have a wonderful partner in Partake to bring their passion and refreshing beverages into our pickleball community,” said Ryan McSpadden, APP chief revenue officer. “Now with the addition of Pickleball Pils, our world-class events just got even more delicious.”

Partake’s lineup includes IPA, Pale Ale, Hazy IPA, Blonde, and Peach Gose, all ranging between 10-30 calories. Consumers consistently seek out Partake for its exceptional taste, unmatched calorie count, and use of all-natural ingredients.

Partake’s Pickleball Pilsner is available at all 2024 APP tour stops. Limited-edition pickleball mixed packs are also available at select retail partners across Canada and the US. To learn more about Partake Brewing visit https://drinkpartake.com.
